Sea of Stars
“So, do you like it, Hirooki?” You ask with a smile, looking around with your arms open and giddy. Your toes curl in the cold sand, sending little shivers down your back
Your lover looks around slowly, as trying to memorize everything they are seeing, and nods with evident excitement, even if hidden behind the hero custom.
“Perfect!” They say, and the lilt in their voice makes you giggle. They can get so excited over the smallest things!
Well, someone could argue that what you’ve done it’s not so small but…you’re used to it. Moving through space and time it’s not all of that big deal. Yeah, there’re a lot of responsibilities, you often fear to change the future by mistake, and you’ve received The Talk by nearly every Pro-hero you’ve met since you were a child.
However, being a responsible adult doesn’t mean you have to give up on making the world a better place by using your power. Or, sometimes having a nice, out-of-ordinary date. You just need a little of attention and taking some precautions.
So, here you are with Space Hero Thirteen, on the shore of Vadhoo Island, surrounded by the Sea of Stars, before pollution and tourism could have ruined it.
The sun is starting to set, and the sky is getting painted with hues of pink, purple and blue; you’ve arrived just in time.
They help you to lay the tablecloth on the sand and take out from your basket the food you’ve prepared, enought to feed an army. It’s your anniversary, you couldn’t waste an opportunity like that.
“You made all of this?” They ask in awe, as you pass them all their favorite dishes.
“Yes!”
“For me?”
“Who do you think I’d ever cook for?” you laugh freely.
“They’re my favorite…” they whisper in a childish trepidation and joy that makes your smile widen so much it hurts.
“Am I the perfect lover or what?” You tease them, poking their spacesuit, “Pay attention to how you answer, I could still eat all of this by myself!”
They chuckle and pinch your cheek, “You are, you are. The absolute best.”
The sky darkens slowly, and the sea comes gradually to life. It’s a fascinating sight to see: the stars lighten the night and the sea mirrors it; it becomes impossible to say where one starts and the other finishes.
You two eat in silence, at the candlelight, sometimes exchanging fluffy words or witty remarks that make you giggle silly. Every dish is delicious, and they take every opportunity to repeat it, staring fondly at the blush on your cheeks.
The atmosphere is calm, intimate and soft; a genuine happiness and tenderness fill the silence. You could remain here, marveling at this view with them, forever.
It’s when you’ve finally finished, and blown out the candles, that Hirooki lowers their visor and shows you their face. You can barely see it in the darkness of the night, but the stars of the sea make the shadows dance on their face in an enchanting game of lights. Not able to restrain yourself, you slowly stretch your arms and cradle their cheeks in your hands, softly caressing their soft skin.
“I love you,” you whisper softly, as scared your words could break the magic.
They smile, tilting their head and leaning in your touch.
“I love you too,” they murmur, kissing the palm of your hand, “Thank you for this magical night.”
“Anything for you, Hirooki, anything,” you reply, pouring your heart into this promise.
Their smile put to shame the light of the stars you’re surrounded by.
When Hirooki leans and kisses your lips, in that slow, kind and soft way of them, you feel like your world is complete.
And you could fly through time and travel through space, but there would never be a place or moment you’d feel more blissfully complete than now.
