Most CDPR lore states that the human form higher vampires take on is merely a disguise.

So, this either means

1) they can take on the shapes of whatever prey and could just as well disguise themselves as Dwarves or Elves or

2) they habe only ever developed the ability to disguise themselves as humans - which would imply that some sort of humans exist in their native world yet never came close to overpowering the vampires.

And both are beautifully terrifying.
