The Eternal Poet

Staggering through those Chicago streets. And I found myself along the shores of Lake Michigan

I can’t complain, writing poetry under a star filled sky, under the lusciousness of the night, I am yours and you are divine

My words, to stand aside, let them fade. The wind carries ashes, smoldering thoughts, clouds of other worlds that always shadow me

The kindness of deep northern forest, the prayers at the edge of a brook, take me back, to those easier days I loved with just my dog

To be so lucky to be this realm tonight, to be safe under the glittering stars, the darkness infiltrates my light and we are finally entwined in the spruce

Storms have passed over us, gray menacing clouds that felt so close. This earth so angry at you and me

Snow White mountains contrasting red wine. to remember that day

The forest naturally called to me, it’s luminous moon and wolves howling

War and peace, desert and sea, layers of things. The beach, memories of mountains, simple little things

Empty Eroded hills the perfect periphery, for something new

Your words, once such fragrant flowers in my luminous night, now wilted, faded and decayed just like every promise, never kept

A simple walk along the lake, our hands held melting into the midwestern night, waves crashing softly onto the beach, I could hold you forever

How my heart, still beats under the summer moonlight for you, remembering you outside my window, holding you close lifetimes ago, and now you are a ghost in an empty landscape with nothing but scars and hills that cut

A new book about a botanist, the other about Tecumseh, I’m so excited to travel to other beautiful worlds through the imagery and magic of words

Painting skies beautiful with poetry, words from deep divine, words blessed by life and the grace of living

The invisible currents inside, carrying me away, to some other place, here, or there. Maybe Persia or Greece, Egypt or farther back than that

This world, this universe. Stretched across my dreams and memory, Serendipity or something else. I’m glad to be here today under this night sky so utterly amazing, leaving me breathless and in awe
