Malfoy's Face

Each house of Hogwarts has its own common room, which is designed in its house colours and style, and adapted for its students traits and needs.

The common rooms are located in different places around the school, and each house have a special way for students to get inside.

Slytherin - The common room is located in the dungeons down the marble stairs, with rough stone walls and ceiling, from which green lamps are hanging. The entrance to the room is behind a bare stretch of stone wall, which requires a password to open up. Its extends partway under the lake, giving the light in the room a green tinge and a view out at the lake though its windows. The room is beautiful decorated, with lots of low backed black and dark green button-tufted, leather sofas, and dark wood cupboards. Bookshelfes with novels and tales are placed around the walls, and a fire-place of stone is placed in one side of the room, often surrounded by students. Its atmosphere is grand, but cold and quite dark, with dimly lights and the sounds of the lake moving above.

Ravenclaw - The common room is located in the west tower of Hogwarts, at top of the spiral staircase on the fifth floor. The entrance is a heavy door without a doorknob or keyhole, but a bronze knocker in the shape of an eagle. In order to enter the room, students must answer a riddle asked by the eagle knocker. The Ravenclaw Common Room is one of the airiest rooms at the school, with its wide, circular room and arched windows hung with blue and bronze silks. A large midnight blue carpet covered in stars, which is reflected onto the domed ceiling placed in the middle. The room is furnished with blue tables, chairs, and a divan. Bookcases surrounding the room, and by the door leading up to the dormitories stands a tall statue of Rowena Ravenclaw made of white marble.

Hufflepuff - The Hufflepuff Common Room is located in the basement, next to the kitchen. The room is round and earthy and low-ceilinged, and when the sun is up it shines from the top of the cirkular windows through the whole room which brings a light and warm feeling. From its windows there is a view of rippling grass and dandelions. The common room is homelike decorated with a lot of burnished copper, yellow textiles and many plants, which either hang from the ceiling or sit on the windowsills. Overstuffed sofas and chairs are upholstered in yellow and black, and the dormitories are reached through round doors in the walls of the common room. Copper lamps cast a warm light over the students four-posters, all of which are covered in patchwork quilts. In order to reveal the entrance, no password is required. Instead, students must tap the barrel in the rhythm of ‘Helga Hufflepuff’, which will make the lid swing open, exposing a passageway that will lead to the basement when crawled through.
