he couldn't help but to give nina a confused look at her words, his brows knitting together as he listened to her. "number one: what the fuck is a 'christmas mannequin?' number two: why the hell is it a tradition for you to find whatever the fuck those are?" malakai asked, shaking his head lightly as he glanced over at her. "my christmas tradition is getting drunk off my ass only to watch nothing but horrible and cheesy christmas movies."

it took him a moment to think of his answer, sighing as he ran  a hand through his hair. "i don't know what the fuck i'm saying, nina." he admitted, shrugging his shoulders lightly. "what we have going on is fucking phenomenal, and you and i both know there isn't any damn strings attached or anything like that, but i'm trying to tell you that maybe this shit has to end." the male explained. "i can't really tell you why, but things could get really fucking complicated really fucking fast and well, i don't want anyone to get dragged into the middle of it."

[8:04am] it’s eight am and i’m currently in a business meeting jfc[8:05am] thank you for making this meeting a little less boring than it was, though.[8:06am] even if that wasn’t meant for me.

malakai listened to the other, a smirk pulling on his lips as he thought over his response. one that didn't take very long at all. "have a night out with me over the holidays and i promise you i can make both of those things happen without it being the end of you, man. there's plenty of parties i've got invitations to and i'm allowed to bring a plus one to all of them."

"list of demands, huh?" malakai chuckled, shaking his head lightly as he crossed his arms over his chest. "turns out you don't know me at all, kylan." the male continued, wiggling his brow at her as he leaned against the wall. "i don't take demands from people. in fact, i'm usually the one giving the demands to people instead of receiving them. but they usually have nothing to do with christmas or the gifts they'd like to receive."

[1:45am] look, i know you don’t give a shit about me but uh[1:46am] i might be drunk and might have locked myself out of my penthouse[1:49am] aka i don’t want to sleep in the elevator so if u don’t mind....

the females words filled malakai's ears and caused him to sigh lightly, mostly to himself as it wasn't from a feeling of disbelief or because he was upset with the words. in fact, they actually caused him to chuckle. "yeah, i'm sure you and a lot of other people feel that way, and honestly? i can't really blame you." he countered, shrugging his shoulders as he pulled his cigarette pack out of his blazer pocket. "but i'll tell you the same thing i've told the other people who've said that to me: my name isn't going anywhere, and neither am i. you don't like me, i get it. but hey, i'm here to stay."

malakai's brow raised as she asked him the question, a small smirk pulling on the corner of his lips as he turned his body to completely face her. "are you telling me that it isn't?" he countered, crossing his arms over his chest with a chuckle. "you were the one who brought the alcohol over to my place, offering to drink it with me, but it's my fault we're both drunk? i'm not too sure that makes any damn sense to me, but if you don't want to be blamed, i guess i'll take the blame because that was damn good alcohol."

the second the other male made the comment about malakai being an angel, he couldn't help but to laugh, shaking his head lightly as he mulled over how to reply to the comment in a way that wouldn't fully give the truth away. "between you and me? i'm nowhere near angel status, haven't been since i was eighteen." he replied truthfully, shrugging his shoulders. "yeah, a kidnapping is out of the question seeing as you and i live in the same building, and the fact that i'm okay with avoiding prison for as long as i possibly can." he chuckled, buttoning his blazer as he started for the entrance. "besides, i really just didn't want to eat alone so i figured bribing someone would be the fastest way to have a guest come with me."

her words caused a light chuckle to fall from his lips. "i don't know if you should be honored to meet me or not, i guess it all depends on your taste in people. the name's malakai.. or as i said, the resident asshole." malakai responded with a shrug of his shoulders as he went to picking the right tools out of his kit. "yeah that's not true either. they realized teaching me this was a bad idea the second they figured out that putting a lock on the liquor cabinet was pointless." the words were met with a smirk as he started making progress on the door. "but hey, look at me now.. guess i didn't learn this skill just to take alcohol from my parents. "ta-da" he breathed out, hearing the all too familiar sound of the lock clicking open under his tools. "i'm assuming your keys are in there?"

"you haven't heard? i'm sunrise's resident asshole. which means there was more than one action that i've done to give me that nickname." he chuckled, brushing off the subject lightly as he figured it'd do him no good. sure, he tried to push people away by acting like an asshole at times, but he was the one to give himself that title, no one else did. "which is precisely why we won't be having you walk all over town with them again." malakai countered with a grin, his brow raising. "not the first person you've run into, but probably the first person to ever pick-pocket you just so you'd go get food with them, huh?" he teased, tucking the books he held under his arm as he leaned up against the elevator's wall, pretending to mull over her comment for a fraction of a second before replying. "i guess that's something i could leave with." the male said, continuing to keep his tone light and teasing. "i don't think your name is a mouthful, but if you'd prefer being called val, i can definitely keep that in mind. i know the feeling though, i've heard mal and kai my entire life." the words were paired with a chuckle, his brow raising at the definition of his name she'd given him. "i guess i can't argue with what some people believe, but from what i've heard, satan was angel once too." malakai replied, shrugging his shoulders once more. "honestly? it's just because i like the sound of cassius better than i do brutus. that might just be a personal preference."
