like it'll eat at you inside the more you think it through. after the end of season 3 nothing is ever the same. nobody likes him. he tries to break away and find new connections and opportunities for himself and nobody wants him. thirteen loves him and then can't stand him. he goes through the entire arc of morally hating himself almost entirely alone. he hates the part of himself that makes people dislike him, but it's also the part of himself that keeps him successful and afloat in a world that's against him. he wants to be in charge without having to be alone for it, and those things just don't go together. he watches his peers and colleagues and friends from inside a glass box. after the end of season 3 all he has is what he'll never have again. MAN

he commits malpractice thinking it will have the same results as it does when the other people around him do it -- it's the wrong thing done for the right reason. but it doesn't make him (in his own eyes) a better doctor, it just makes him a worse person. his internal morality and external actions are entirely at odds with eachother, and NOBODY ELSE AROUND HIM is in the same position. eric foreman is not allowed to run away from his past mistakes, he's held to a higher and crueler standard. i think he doesn't want to be house, but wants what house has -- the ability to just get away with anything. the ability to be loved by the people who've chosen you even as you fuck up again and again. but foreman's not allowed to fuck up. there is such a heavily racialized storyline and perspective inherent in foreman's story and i really think we don't talk about it enough

I love s2 e9 deception for many reasons but one of the top ones is how insistent that house is that the patient doesn't have munchausens. because he knows exactly what happens when doctors don't listen to a patient and write off their illness as "all in their head". he knows
