It doesn’t matter who you are and what you do but please remember this one thing. Someone loves you more than you love yourself I will cheer you on, I love you.

You were part of my lifeline, a constant in my freshly turned adult life. I literally hit the lowest of the lows at one point, practically an empty container of a person with no direction. My closest friends had moved out of town years before, my parents did not know what to do anymore, and I myself had no faith in what I could do. One of my very few sources of support during that time was to devote my attention to Shinee and you. I would watch every show, listen to every release, gif every fucking goddamn cute moment – and maybe it should also be called an escape, but it was an incredibly fulfilling and happy one.

I remember crying, so much crying, in bed at night and even on the bus a couple times. Every single time you guys were all there, a soothing melody in my ears. And your voice was still there, when I told myself to fuck it all and get my shit together, to at least try before truly drowning myself in self-imposed misery. My recovery steps, trying new things and putting myself out there: typing papers and letters, trying to make connections with people, walking into interviews, giving lectures to actual people, fooling others into believing that I had potential that I wasn’t even so sure of myself… Your presence was always there, whether it be a window on the side of my computer screen, songs booming through my speakers, or a playlist on my many old and new mp3 players.

I am where I am today because of you and Shinee.

Admittedly, this recovery meant that I was finding less and less time to hold the same outward devotion that I originally had in university, but the reason I couldn’t bother feeling guilt, as if I was abandoning you was because I knew the truth. I knew that your music was and is the reason I can even have a life I can vaguely call happy now. I love your music and always will love it and there is no possibility of leaving it behind. They’re always fucking jams and more importantly, an incredible comfort to me.

I haven’t even mentioned how beautiful you are as a person, how inspirational you are and how much I admire you, how you connected me to people who are treasured friends – but no amount of words could ever capture everything you did. I hope you can rest peacefully now.
