rockinrocketā:
Rocket sized the man up, the sparks on his hands seemed to be his weapons. This concerned him slightly until he noticed that his stance appeared to be preparing a defense of counter attack rather than being an immediate threat. His words further drove the point home of being a protector.
He folded his arms in front of him, not wanting to send any sign of reaching for any weapons of his own to the unknown man. āMy purpose in the city is getting away from a band of ZāNox pirates, my purpose on this planet is getting off this frigginā planet!ā He realized of course that by entering the city he had all but ruined any chance of leaving the planet. Though he didnāt concern himself with Terra often, much of the galaxy had heard of the black hole that had engulfed a city. Everything that goes in, doesnāt come out. āItās a multi step plan!ā
During his tenure with the guardians he had fought a space monster, space pirates, a space cough (that passed in a week), and even a planet. Rocket did not have a desire to add a wizard to that list. Not with the precious cargo strapped to his belt at least.
āAnd watch who you point those sparkle fingers at pal! I fought to defend this place at Wakanda just like everyone else,ā he pointed his tiny finger angrily at the ground before waving his hand dismissively. āAsk the- the one armed guy, or Thor.ā Rockets forte had never been defusing situations, often times he deferred it to others around him. Unfortunately there was nobody around and name dropping was his best option.
Rocket tapped at the communicator on his wrist before speaking into it. āQuill? Can you hear me? I swear if youāre ignoring me again Iāll smash EVERYTHING THAT IS DEAR TO YOU!ā It was not much of a surprise to him that the communications seemed inoperable. His fist briefly clenched in irritation before realizing the spectical that the crashing ships had brought. A small sigh escaped his chest he suppressed his anger beneath the surface.

Stephen knew what his duties were when it came to protecting this planet and reality.Ā Though he could have been more diplomatic he wanted to make it clear that Earth was defended even from technologically advanced aliens.Ā Mostly that was the Avengers job, but if it needed to overlap a bit he was fine with that.
The alienās initial reaction made Stephen wonder if the alien had the anger of an average sized human compressed into his smaller body.Ā He knew that contents under pressure had a tendency to explode.Ā At the comment on hisĀ āsparkle fingersā Stephen raised an eyebrow.Ā He wasnāt quite ready to drop his guard.Ā So far the explanation and goal seemed rational, but as a doctor he was very aware that people lied.Ā Naming Wakanda gave the alien some credit.Ā Naming Thor is what finally got Stephen to relax.Ā If the Asgardian didnāt know the alien Thor could take care of the problem very permanently.Ā His hands fell to his sides and he stood for a moment thinking.
The mention of Quill settled the matter of the alien.Ā Ā āThor is here.Ā I can take you to the Avengerās mansion.Ā If he isnāt there, they will know where he is or a likely place to find him,ā he said.Ā Ā āI am Doctor Stephen Strange.Ā I have met Quill and other members of his crew.āĀ A few years ago the notion of actual space pirates would have been laughable to him, but after extradimensional squid monsters he found anything believable.
āAre you going to need whatās left of your ship?ā he asked gesturing toward the wreck.Ā Ā āItās just not a good idea to leave advanced technology just sitting around.Ā If you need it, I will move it.ā

āYou guys owe me so frigginā much!ā These were Rockets last words as he dipped his ship into the barrier. Well... half of his ship.
The Benatar was a much more maneuverable ship than even the Milano had proven to be. This was of course while it was still intact. In its present state Rocket found himself to have control of one thruster on the back end of the wing, one thruster designed for hovering, and one close range laser turret that appeared to be dangling on by a thread. Rocket had been adamant about taking the job that would put them opposed to the ZāNox. Despite the interstellar pilots being well known in sects of the galaxy, the reward was worth it. Or so he told himself as he plummeted towards New York City, one unlucky ZāNox ship on his tail. He knew with the mark being in his half of the ship it would provide the rest of the guardians time to get away while the pirates were debating their next move.
His nimble fingers worked their magic on what remained of the ships command console. Slamming both thrusters on he sent the left half of the Benatar into a more extreme spin. His finger pressed down on the console for an authorization request. The outer hull of ZāNox ships would not be penetrated without diverting full power to the remaining turret. The screen turned red and gave a buzzing noise before a message popped on screen reading āCaptainās authorization requiredā accompanied by the image of a middle finger.
He ripped a sheet of metal from beneath the control panel and began pulling wires, rerouting and stripping cables as needed. The ship rumbled as the ZāNox ship finally landed a shot. āFirst Iām going to kill you, then Iām going to kill Quill!ā With one last clip of wires, the turret began to grow a bright red, overheating as the charge built up. Rocket focused his attention at the front of the cockpit, completely having no power to the thrusters he was at the will of the ships spin. His moment finally came, his finger pressed down on the red button it had been hovering above. The laser fired with a boom, blasting a hole directly through his pursuers ship as well as the pilot himself.
Rocket let out a loud laugh, proud at his own prowess. āOh,ā his triumph was cut short as he looked to his right out of the completely open side of the ship where the right half of the Benatar should be. The ground of New York City was far closer than he realized. The ship slammed into the ground, the wing breaking off as it began a roll across and empty street. The friction slowed the ship as it flopped upright onto its belly one last time. Reaching into his pocket he held up a plugged vial of a bright blue liquid, āheh. Still safe.ā He gave it a little flip before placing it into a small canister which let out a puff as it vacuum sealed the vial for safe keeping.
Reaching behind him he clicked the canister onto the rear slot of his belt. Sliding his weight forward he slid out of Captain #1s chair and gave himself a small stretch, grimacing slightly as he heard the other ship let out a small contained explosion within its hull. Had the ZāNox pilot survived, he certainly hadnāt now. Rocket slung his favorite gun over his shoulder before dropping out of the empty half of the ship onto the city street. Finally he took in his surroundings. He felt fortunate to have the ability to see well at night as it was incredibly dark within the city.
He had met some terrans aside from Peter during the battle of Wakanda. They didnāt all seem bad. Maybe dumb, but not bad. He made his first priority finding one to explain what was going on that was a tolerable amount of dumb... And a maybe a tolerable amount of bad thrown in there.
Stephen had eyes everywhere in the area of the dome.Ā He never knew when or if one of the Stones would drag something horrible from some other place or dimension that the average person on this planet would be slaughtered by.Ā Which meant the moment the first ship broke through the dome, Stephen knew.Ā He stood immediately and made his way to the door of the Sanctum.Ā Before he was outside the familiar weight of the cloak settled on his shoulders allowing him to get to what became the crash sight very quickly.
He warned people away when his feet touched the ground close to the second ship.Ā The damage was obvious and he couldnāt sense any lifeforms inside of the ship.Ā Whatever or whoever had been flying it was now gone.Ā The small contained explosion that followed after his cursory examination convinced him that for the safety of the denizens of this city, the ship needed to be elsewhere.
Stephen waved his hands and made a few gestures that caused the area under the ship to glow with a blue light.Ā Then several glowing blue vines covered the ship.Ā He paused for a moment to wait until the whole ship was covered before slamming his hands to the ground.Ā As his hands hit the ground the ship was pulled down disappearing from the area in once occupied into a pocket dimension that Stephen had quickly created.Ā When it was gone the ground didnāt show any sign of the ship beyond the damage done by the crash landing.
He stood and dusted his hands off as he turned his attention to the other ship.Ā As he moved around it to distantly examine it, he detected a lifeform that was not native to this planet.Ā The darkness made it difficult for Stephen to see what he was dealing with.Ā He put his fingers into the specific configuration and raised his hands in order to open the Eye of Agamotto in order to get a better view of the lifeform.Ā The Eye glowed with a bright white light.
His first sight of the alien was quite curious.Ā It was close to a raccoon in appearance.Ā Though there were several major differences.Ā The primary one being the things that appeared to be weapons all over the alienās person.Ā That wasnāt comforting in the slightest.
He stepped forward making a few quick, familiar gestures as he conjured the small shields over his hands.Ā Ā āState your purpose in this city and on this planet,ā he commanded in a flat, even voice.

not-thegodof-hammersā:
It was honestly a long time overdue when Thor finally made his way towards Bleecker street, an easy gait to his steps and a gentle whistle on his breath, stormbreaker sat easily in the harness on his back. So much had been going on since heād first arrived within the barrierāadmittedly not all of it to himselfāseemingly one after the other, and it had left the God unable to pay a visit to the wizard as soon as heād intended to do so.
Yet now, for the moment at least, things seemed to be relatively calm. A member of his royal party hadnāt arrived through the barrier in at least a few days, and so suddenly finding himself with nothing to do and no one to berate for following him through the barrier, Thor had remembered his original plans to speak to the wizard.
As much as he found Midgardians curious, there was something about this wizard that amused him greatly. His control of magic was certainly a rarity amongst the mortals and would have caught his attention anyway, but the fact heād managed to catch Loki unawares twice within the same meeting had been a point of great enjoyment for Thor. If they hadnāt been so determined to find their Father (and then dealing with their surprise sister), Thor would have proceeded to use the events to tease Loki mercilessly until he was either banished to another realm or stabbed.
Reaching the wizards house, Thor knocked sharply before pushing the door open to step inside.
āBeer wizard! Are you here?ā
Stephen held up his hand to get a better sense of the power that was coming toward him as he walked to the door. Ā It was familiar to him, but it was taking time to place it. Ā He allowed the door of the Sanctum to open at the loud knocking. Ā If he had to face something this powerful the Sanctum was the best place to do so. Ā The most powerful relics were close at hand and any power he might need was there as well. Ā Also, any damage done would be contained by the near infinite size of the almost indestructible building. Ā
Under normal conditions his hands shook constantly. Ā He could no longer use a razor to shave, eating was sometimes a challenge. Ā His writing was unreadable. Ā At this moment though, not a twitch. Ā They were perfectly stable when they needed to cast spells to protect this world. Ā Which was good because sometimes those hands were the only thing that protected it from certain destruction.
This was not one of those times. Ā The booming voice of the familiar Asgardian allowed him to relax. Ā He pressed two fingers to the bridge of his nose in irritation. Ā āMy name is Stephen Strange,ā he said. Ā āObviously, I am here. Ā Do come in.ā Ā He sensed a weapon on Thorās back. Ā Not the same one he brought to the Sanctum before, but Stephen thought it was likely similar enough that certain precautions should be taken. Ā āIf you would leave your weapon beside the door. Ā I have only recently fixed the damage an Eldrich being did to the Sanctum and would prefer not to have to embark on another long cleaning spree.ā
He waited a moment before gesturing to his parlor. Ā āPlease, take a seat in here. Ā We have some things to discuss,ā he said. Ā āI suppose I should offer my condolences on the death of your father and my congratuations on becoming king to your people.ā
emma-gracefrostā:
āYes, I could tell last night,ā She pursed her lips as she perched on the arm of the chair a moment.Ā āOh yeah? Just a bit of rest? How much rest is required when you are allowing yourself to be chair-bound?ā Emma teases ā she knew it had to be some level of serious for Stephen to allow Wong to make him stay in a chair all day ā to allow him to be doted on like that. āOh haaaa,ā She says dryly but she was fighting a smile.Ā āYou can get on your knees and beg later, if youāre up for it,ā Emma smirks, tossing her hair over her shoulder, considering a moment before she asked.Ā āHow often is it like this after using magic? Do you need a whole day? Is there not magic to replace magic ā and āā she paused her line of questioning with a slight wince.Ā āI suppose my grilling you isnāt very relaxing,ā She rubbed a hand across his shoulders with a small smile.Ā āForgive me.ā
Stephen gave her a small smile.Ā Ā āNot entirely sure,ā he said.Ā Ā āItās not that I am allowing myself to be stuck in a chair, itās more that getting up just feels like a big effort right now.āĀ He sighed and picked up his tea.Ā Ā āProbably a few days at most.Ā Less if I keep drinking Wongās concoctions and eating a few of his special meals.ā
He smiled tiredly.Ā Ā āI look forward to it,ā he said.Ā When she apologized he waved his hand.Ā Ā āThereās nothing to forgive.Ā Itās not a subject youāre familiar with so questions are natural.Ā I do have stores of magic inside me.Ā Easily used and replaced for most of my spells.Ā When I know I will have to put a great deal of magic into an effort then I channel magic.Ā Either from around me or I tap into various dimensions to get the magic.Ā The magic still has to run through me and sometimes the spells themselves have certain effects on me.āĀ He paused briefly to drink some tea.Ā āMost of the spells I use are for a very short duration which doesnāt take as much out of me.Ā The longer I have to sustain a spell especially when it has a large effect like a barrier and I have to fight to maintain it, the more tired it will make me.Ā Then there is the added complication of all the magic that is running wild around here.āĀ He reached for her hand and kissed the back of it.Ā āI am okay, no serious or long term damage done.āĀ Ā

āMagic taught me new rules.ā Bruce admitted, unashamed to tell Strange that the scientific logic he had been working upon was outdated, quickly proven wrong by the existence of new worlds and realms.Ā āI was in the process of studying them when I found myself on Zakaar.ā Ducking his head with a quiet hum, he was grateful his company wasnāt making an effort to understand. He was making no claim to know his struggle, he wasnāt even trying to relate to it. Sometimes that was all he needed, a mutual respect, an acknowledgement.Ā
āThank you.ā He murmured, feeling infinitely better when he heard the doctor assure him he would put his own safety first. He knew from experience that, thanks to the Other Guy, he was all but indestructible. He was never concerned for himself, only those around him. And knowing those around him would make their well being a priority helped to ease the anxiety. A frown creasing his brow at the mention of trusting the wrong people, there was something in the way Strange said the words that made him wonder whether he, or somebody he knew, had trusted the wrong person in the past. It didnāt sound like a comment on his own situation. Looking up and offering him a shy smile, he believed him. Hell, he trusted him already. Everybody he knew who was acquainted with Strange only ever had good things to say. Setting down his tea, he carefully got to his feet.Ā āIām sorry to take up your time, but⦠I really think I needed this. I canāt tell you how much I appreciate itā¦ā
Stephen smiled a little.Ā Ā āI am sure that you have only begun to scratch the surface,ā he said.Ā Ā āThe more I learn the more I find I havenāt learned yet.āĀ It wasnāt a criticism just what he considered an accurate assessment of how much there is to magic.Ā Wong has said as much to him in his own taciturn way.
He nodded at the thanks.Ā As much as Dr. Bannerās situation was important, he had other duties that were important as well.Ā Stephen waved away the apology and stood up as well.Ā Ā āThink nothing of it,ā he said.Ā Ā āFeel free to visit or contact me whenever you wish.Ā If Iām not here, I am sure Wong will assist you in any way he can.āĀ He intended to show him out as he considered it a polite thing to do with guests.Ā Also, some of the relics could get curious or the Sanctum itself could decide to rearrange itself.Ā It never did that when he was around and the relics knew to behave.

emma-gracefrostā:
Haven had been full of people recovering and Emma had barely gotten home and to sleep before she felt like she was waking up. It had only been a couple of hours of sleep and she felt it, heavy and tired. But she had a mission and hell hath no fury like Emma on a mission. She was walking to the Sanctum before she even remembered where she was going, really. She had spent the night helping Colossus with the house and getting everyone settled and fed and everything else.
It had been an exhausting time for everyone. But she knew it was more so for those who had fought hard ā people like Stephen. She had wanted to reach out last night but time got away from her. āHello, dear,ā She said with a polite smile as she let herself in to the side of Wong. She pat him gently on the shoulder as she passed, following the sound of Stephenās mind to find him in a chair.Ā āA sight for sore eyes,ā She smiles sweetly, perking up as best she could. Her exhaustion didnāt matter, she was glad to see him okay. āGood morning, darling,ā She says as she comes over and sweet cloud of rose-scented perfume to kiss his cheek, standing up beside the chair and stroking his hair back as she looked him over, as if she could appraise exactly the extent of damage, if there were any. She took in the scenery around her, breakfast brought to him, books around.Ā āChair bound today, huh?ā She knew he didnāt like her fussing, but she desperately wanted to.Ā āWell, out of the kindness of my heart, Iāll keep you company.ā Of course she was not invited, but Emma did not wait to be invited, she invited herself and he knew that.
Wong had no problem getting the door for Stephen. Ā If it kept the other sorcerer sitting in his chair then it was a small price to pay. Ā The two of them had several discussions regarding Emma. Ā Wong being a far more traditional thinker was concerned that Strange would become distracted from his duties or that she would be hurt by something the Sanctum contained. Ā So far, heād been proved wrong and he was fine with that. Ā Despite many years spent speaking English his thoughts were always in Cantonese.
He almost smiled when Emma greeted him then breezed past him. Ā Once she made her way toward where Stephen was he shut the door. Ā Content that she would manage to keep him entertained and resting for a bit, he made his way back to the kitchen.
Stephen smiled at the sight of Emma. Ā The scent of roses flowed over him as she leaned in for a kiss. Ā The scratches on his cheek had been seen to by Wong. Ā No doubt whatever had been applied to them did a good job of making sure they healed quickly. Ā The rest of it wouldnāt be dealt with so easily. Ā āSome of the spells I needed to use really took it out of me,ā he said. Ā āJust need to get some rest and I will be okay. Ā Nothing more serious than that.ā Ā He smiled up at her. Ā āItās like you can read my mind,ā he teased. Ā āItās like you know I was just going to start thinking of ways to beg for some of your time without having to actually get on my knees.ā
strongestavengerbruceā:
Bruce smiled, unable to help himself. Only a hint of self-deprecation evident in his expression.Ā āI appreciate it⦠really.ā He insisted. And it was true. Despite sometimes wishing he could hear a sugar coated version of the truth, his mind valued facts ad figures. Honesty was always important to him, especially when it came to situations such as these. He needed to know, false hope would only be damaging and toxic.Ā āI appreciate it.ā Laughing quietly at the prospect of the doctorās bedside manner leaving a lot to be desired, he tried to imagine Strange talking to a patient in the same way he was being spoken to now. It was amusing, although he would never admit so out loud.Ā āIām not sure I would understand the mechanics of it, even if you could explain them to me.ā He admitted. He realised his scepticism must have been evident on his face when Strange began to tell him about his battle with Thanos. He would be lying if he said the information didnāt make him feel infinitely more confident in his abilities.Ā āIām sorry, I donāt mean to doubt you. This is all just⦠uncharted territory. Thereās no sure way to predict the outcome and that- that makes me nervous. I hate that.ā
Falling silent again, he felt a sudden rush of empathy for the man sitting before him. His life had been stolen too, replaced with something that forced him to the forefront of war. That thrust responsibilities upon he that he may never had asked for given the choice.Ā āI wish I could say I do⦠but each time I feel like I finally have a grasp on it, everything changes.ā He sighed quietly, a frown creasing his brow.Ā āI love Tony, so he loves Tony⦠thereās a connection between the way I feel and the way he feels, heās⦠protective of the people I care about. People have used that to their advantage before, sometimes that has led to people communicating with him, more so during my time on Zakaar but I still donāt know a lot of what happened there. Iām not sure I want to.ā He said, his voice becoming quieter as he thought about what he did know. His biggest fear was being used as a weapon, he never once considered the fact that people might use him for sport, encourage him to kill as a source of entertainment. It made him feel physically sick.Ā āI trust youā¦hopefully that means he will trust you too.āĀ
Stephen nodded.Ā There were people who responded well to facts and logic over some kind of attempt to take care of their feelings.Ā He was able to interact with the former far easier than the latter.Ā It occurred to him that itās possible that Banner represented the logic side while Hulk represented the emotional side.Ā Almost as if it was a single mind that was split instead of two, fully functioning minds fighting over one person.Ā It was an interesting theory, heād have to note that down for later.
āMagic has a language of its own and its own rules.Ā Which I would assume you are familiar with because of your studies in nuclear physics among other disciplines.Ā If one doesnāt know the language and a language both people understand canāt be agreed upon it is difficult to converse.Ā Even then it is still difficult to get certain concepts to translate,ā Stephen said.Ā He regarded Bruce for a moment.Ā Ā āI think whatever doubt you are having is out of a place of concern.Ā It is not meant to be insulting and it is not taken as such.Ā I can only imagine what you have gone through.Ā I can only imagine the kinds of fears you had that became realities and the ones that havenāt.Ā For both our sakes, I will make my own safety the priority if I encounter him.āĀ He doubted such promises and understanding would be enough, but it was the best he could do.
Stephen listened as Bruce spoke nodding at intervals.Ā Even Zakaar sounded familiar as if heād read about it somewhere though actually going through the trouble of searching his memory seemed unnecessary at this point.Ā Ā āI think that it makes sense that he has some view of the world through your experiences,ā he said.Ā Ā āAs for trusting the wrong people, I can tell you that far older and far wiser people than you have trusted the wrong people with rather terrible outcomes.āĀ He thought of the Ancient One briefly then pushed the memories aside.Ā Ā āI will endeavor to be worthy of your trust.āĀ His duty was to protect this reality and his duty would always have to come first.Ā He didnāt think helping Bruce in this manner would or could conflict with his duty.
