Hey, have you guys heard of the Writing Battle website? My sister's partner told me about it yesterday -- its an international tournament for creative writers with a cash prize. He's done it before and though he didnt win anything he got some really good feedback that he's worked into his writing since.
You pay an entry fee ($25 USD), select what genre you want to write for (fantasy, sci-fi, comedy, etc), and then youre given a prompt and you write your story (differing lengths depending on which challenge you choose), and then your works are judged by either fellow writers or by pro editors (again: depending on which challenge you do) who give you feedback on your work.
Theres a battle on at the moment but its only got 3 hours or so left, so I won't be doing this one -- but theres another one scheduled for July which I'm thinking I'll sign up to! Anyway posting about it here because I'd never heard of it but it sounds fun. There's a 100 word challenge, a 500 word challenge, and a 2000 word challenge, and some of the prompts theyve used in the past (all different depending on the gendre you choose) range from things like "buddy-cop comedy" to "post-apocalyptic game show" to "household pet's adventure" to "swords and sorcery" and "small town secrets."
