Just wanted to let y’all know I’m alive. In the time I’ve been gone I now manage a store, and I got married to the Sato to my Kasu! <3 

“some people might find that not responding in some way means they don’t have the power to defend themselves,” is, ironically, a somewhat defensive and insecure mindset, and it becomes negative when you approach the subject with frustration. as is often the case with pokeani. 

however, that’s not necessarily what i was talking about; i more-so meant that insecurity shows when people do things like pointlessly bash a character or fanbase if even in general and not to someone personally. i say this from experience. when i was younger, people used to bash misty to my face and outwardly i’d get upset, think of any way to hurt their feelings/opinions, get back at them--because i had such a strong investment in her and felt like that was shamed and invalidated.

but eventually i just realized. that’s a problem with them, and i let them turn it into a problem about me. so what if they think lowly of me for liking a character they also think lowly of? getting angry and acting negatively like those attacking me just. made ME upset. getting defensive, going off about how wrong they were? they were just happy they made me waste my time. 

not engaging people like that is the best and most satisfying payback. fandoms are meant to be enjoyed, and if surrounded by negativity in all directions, why would anyone want to stay? idk. adding to the problem by fighting negativity with harsh emotions like defensiveness really just adds. to the problem, if only slightly. if only internally.

also. the mindset that “all fandoms suck so it’s fine if mine sucks too” isn’t..............great. i think there’s nothing unreasonable about everyone, even those who typically try to add something positive to a community, taking a step back and re-evaluating how we can make things better.

well first off i don’t want ppl to be like “isn’t this exactly what you were talking about with discussing negativity” because no acknowledging the cisheteronormativity/misogyny is a different and notable issue one it’s own and very unlike shaming people who like one pokegirl over another

i’d definitely agree because both things are deeply ingrained in society as a whole and while typically fandoms have some variance i think it’s notable to mention how much the english pokeani fandom........literally just doesn’t. i find myself outside of a lot of the pokeani circles simply because my main dawn ship and one of my otps at all is appealshipping. idk. there’s so much to say about it. it’s another huge issue entirely. 

REGARDLESS

that’s literally all you can do. i really wish people would take on your mindset and move past the stubbornness of needing to maintain a facade that “if you thought and acted one way once you have to act like that forever”

the minute you realize “i enjoy this series in a different way than other people and it was wrong of me to treat them less like human beings” is a freeing one should you embrace it

letting go of the things you’ve done wrong/the ways people have wronged you only leads to happiness and personal enjoyment if nothing else.

why do i still continually see so much negativity and hate in the pokeani fandom it’s 2017 can’t we all just get along it’s just a show they’re just fictional characters and everyone is allowed to enjoy them how they please. canon is going to play out as planned no matter what, so being upset and angry (especially with each other) is literally so pointless.

it goes beyond things like anon hate and people saying “lol so-and-so character sucks.” it’s the micro-aggressions like going to someones ask whom you agree with, and saying things like, “wow, (said character’s) fans are so stupid, i bet they’re so salty right now.” you don’t have to do that. you don’t have to post that, should you receive it. if nothing else, consider that your personal insecurities show when you act in such a way. 

ignore the bad, don’t be defensive, the best payback you can give is no acknowledgement. don’t be a jerk, don’t bring down the excitement of others, don’t fight hate with hate. imagine how much more fun and insightful things would be if the micro-negativity went out the window.

the thing that gets me the most is that most anyone involved in the english speaking pokeani fandom is likely a long term fan by this point, and as such, we’re literally mostly adults.
