claermontβ:
Β Β Β SHE HAS SOMEHOW SHAKEN HIS VERY FOUNDATIONS, managed to get under his skin in such a way that the fathomless darkness within him is now pinpricked with spots of her enduring light. Their journey for those elusive answers will hopefully come to an end that benefits them all, though there remain grave, evil forces at play that he cannot allow near her. His overwhelming instinct to protect his beloved is stronger even than those unhinged urges of frenzy and bloodlust. His self-hatred is strong, knowing he conceals the truth of his condition from her, considering it to be the only thing holding him back from uniting with her, body and soul.
Β Β Before him is a headstrong, good woman who can never fault him for something he cannot control, and yet, he finds himself at a loss. She still has so much to learn about his kind: they are forbidden lovers from two separate species, their lives threatened by the very law set during the crusades, long before Dianaβs time and based upon a fundamental misunderstanding. Modern science will prove their theories: that the intermingling of species will not bring about their destruction, but their rebirth into a new age where creatures may no longer face extinction.
Β Β Her fingertips carefully slip from his mouth, momentarily soothed. With little gestures he assures her of a love everlasting. She is no longer in danger primarily with the breaking of the covenant: Matthew is convinced that the danger Diana faces now concerns Ashmole 782. The congregation lies not within his area of expertise, but Baldwinβs. Though his trust in his brother is oft tentative at best, he knows Baldwin to align with the familyβs best interests. It is important to therefore think tactically and keep himself and Diana on Baldwinβs good side. He would never fear his older brother, but only a fool would ignore the influence Baldwin has upon creature affairs and politics.
Β Β β Come, Diana, we must continue on. β He holds the passenger side door open for her, narrowing his eyes at the setting sun.
Β Β Β Β He was nothing like she had ever been told about. The mystery of his past, tempting her to keep digging like she would normally do in her studies. It was different a bit this time, their lives were on the line and they had to get answers. She was going to learn how to control her magic, and she wasnβt going to let anyone hurt them. She also wanted to explore the bond that sheβs forming with Matthew. How could one person take everything that sheβs ever known and flipped it completely upside down? She knows he is still holding himself back from her, and she doesnβt want him to hate himself anymore.
Β Β Β Matthew was a brilliant man, already in such a short time, heβs shown her everything sheβs been missing, what sheβs denied herself with her own abilities. She doesnβt understand why anyone would listen and follow with a βruleβ that was made back before research and knowledge became readily available. She just knows that they werenβt going to destroy anything just because sheβs a witch and heβs a vampire. They would find a way to save all the species.
Β Β Β Her fingers felt as if she hadnβt burned them, shivering gently as her eyes stayed locked onto his, feeling his affection and love in the little action. He believed that Ashmole 782 was completely tied to her. How? They still needed to get that answer as well. She knew that between talking to Matthewβs brother, she had to find a way to connect with her parents. Why else would she be seeing her father who died when she was a child? The car accident was heavy in her mind, but she knew that she had to do her best to not have his family reject him, she already knew that being a witch was already going to be a sore spot.
Β Β Β Β She nodded her head, turning her body to get into the car so that they would be able to continue their journey, kissing his cheek before sitting down.
