im coming back to Tumblr bc noones here and i don't have to self monitor at all. This place genuinely is a who-gives-a-fuck.
Substack is cool but it feels really. Repetitive for some reason. Maybe it's my feed being extremely curated. But everyone is talking about the same shit there, anti-brainrot , doing intellectual stuff like reading (wtf have we come to), about male validation and getting over it. There's a certain character that I can see using substack. I mean the anti AI stuff is cool, I love it as well. And in a way I'm talking about it here too. But idk people who use substack feel self righteous for some reason. There's something about it that feels off to me. And yeah I feel very hypocritical writing this on Tumblr, which could be seen as even more self righteous lmao.
Instagram is permanently enshittified. Like. It feels like everyone's trying to waste your time. I've seen so many accounts of people my age talking about brand strategy and idk building businesses, motivational quotes and shit, which I really admire. But at one point all of them sound the same. They all sound very chatgpt. I don't see the originality yet. There are some cool stuff tho. But ironically the cool stuff is people talking about things that make you stay as off-instagram as possible. And the UI of instagram has degraded so much it's kind of insane. You don't even get the people you follow on your feed. That's genuinely so stupid. That was one of the reasons why I came back to Tumblr. Somebody was talking about how when you follow someone, they actually show up in your feed.
The last time I used Tumblr was when I was a chronically online tween/early teen. I was reposting shit about harry potter , artemis fowl , all the books and tv shows I used to watch. Idk I miss feeling chalant when I post. Nowadays posting about something you are a fan of is somehow looked down on and ruins your "instagram aesthetic"
It's honestly crazy how instagram has become an extension of someone's personality. My friends and I stalk someone's profile to figure out what kind of person they are. I'm also guilty of stalking my own account from someone else's perspective to see what kind of person I come across as. It's like clothes now. Shits wack.
Also the funniest shit i find on Pinterest come from Tumblr. I would say booktok's got NOTHING on Tumblr fandoms. I found the most hilarious, witty stuff here. Obviously now it's not what it used to be. But yeah.
I'm not putting this through some AI and asking if it's good. Bc fuck it. I'm done w that.
