why the way nico came out was absolutely unecessary/ terrible:
okay, i am pretty sure a lot of people have adressed this, but i just want to talk about this from my pov
so, the first time i read that part, i was young, and i remember it sort of left me with a nasty feeling because i mean- nico was what? fourteen? and he had gone through so much shit already. it made me feel bad for him, but that’s it.
i didn’t think too much about it.
yesterday, i decided to re-read that part and jesus christ ?? i am speaking from experience when i say that being forced to come out is horrible. it leaves you with a sour feeling at the bottom of your stomach, and it not only hurts you physically, but emotionally and mentally too.
reading about nico being forced to come out triggered me, and i was genuinely not ready for that feeling to return.
many people in the LGBTQIA+ spectrum have been forced to come out, instead of being allowed to do so at their own pace.
eros making nico come out to jason wasn’t only blatantly horrible and insensitive, but that entire chapter in general can trigger so, so many people since there isn’t any sort of warning.
and yes, jason was supportive, but at that moment, we read how nico’s crumbling, how he’s yelling at eros, how jason sees him falling apart.
nico didn’t know how jason would react, and even though jason turned out to fully accept nico, he didn’t know what the outcome would be.
he didn’t know, and he probably expected jason to have a negative reaction because of all the homophobia he’d already had to face when he was little and lived in italy.
i could keep going on and on but i don’t really think that’d be spicy.
basically, there are another million ways nico could have come out; rick simply chose the worst
