“You look troubled, my darling. Tell me what’s on your mind.”

“I’m a big boy. I don’t need mom’s permission, Erik.“ 

“Your mother won’t allow it.”

“I fled because you killed people, Erik! You may have protected me from one monstrocity but you became the same as them. Killing wasn’t the answer, killing is what made us what we are. I was never ashamed of my husband’s difference. I was ashamed of your rage. And I will speak of my daughter if I please. I froze, alone, without them, without the twins, and now– I have nothing. All I’ve wanted, all I’ve thought about, for years since, laying on medical beds, being used for the betterment of cruel people.” She screamed in anger. “Was you, I thought about you. I missed you, I still miss, I love you, Max. And you can change your name, cut your hair, pretend you’re not Max Eisenhardt, but for decades I have refused to call myself anything but my name. I still wear the ring, I still call you my husband. I’m not ashamed, not of you, never of you, and never of what you can do. I spent years in isolation wondering if you used your ability to build houses, stop wars, make the world better.”

“Am I… am I nothing anymore? Am I just a piece of your past? I’m not human, I’m not mutant, I’m something else, does that make me your enemy? Because to me, you’re still…”

“I was protecting you and Anya! I had no control over what I was doing but it had to be done! There are people out there that deserve that kind of fate. You cannot tell me you don’t believe the same after what we were forced to go through in those camps. My rage is the only thing that has helped me to survive. It is needed. You are the one who chose to flee from everything. That was on you, Magda. I never knew what become of you! That was not on me.  I tried to track you down but I came up empty!” His expression filled with hurt---past pain that he had buried for so, so long. “Max Eisenhardt is dead. He has been dead for decades, and he is not coming back. I am Erik---Magneto. That is who I am. I use my abilities to help my kind, to protect them from the injustices they receive.” Erik glanced down at his left hand, bare of the ring he had worn so long ago. “I am not your husband. My heart is not yours, Magda. It was yours and only yours, once. I would have done anything for you.”

“There is another way. You just don’t want ta see it.” Rogue said at last, anger slowly sneaking back into her voice. “I’m not leaving the Brotherhood. But Ah’m not sure anymore if our cause is the same.”

“That’s not true.” It was, though. Erik knew it---he knew it deep down. There was no other way but war. “Our cause has always been the same, Rogue. The Acts won’t ever change that. We protect our kind.”

“With your heartbreaker smile? You want something.”

“Very well, then. I want you to find out what Captain America is planning.”

              “–I am probably not the only one who thinks SHIELD has a stick up their ass lately…

                   But I could be wrong….”

“A warrant out for my arrest, huh? Just try it, I dare you.”

“I think people would be foolish to, though SHIELD seems to be lacking in thinking things through.”

   “The time is over now, hm? It’s just getting started but I’m so done with it already.”

“You chose your side, did you not?”

“You kept a secret from me, your wife, and revealed it as our daughter burned to death. Moreover, Max, I spent years being probed, abused, a pin cushion for a better form of people. You didn’t care, you changed your name, moved, and started a new cause, ignoring the suffering our people are still going through. You don’t even speak in your accent any more. I still see the rage in you, the injustice of the world burns in you, and I’m here alive because they wanted to create an army of that shield wielding war monger. Did you ever love me? Was I ever important to you? Or have I always been nothing more than a pathetic lesser person to you as well.”

“Do not speak of Anya,” he snapped, blue eyes flaring with anger. “I never kept a secret from you. My powers manifested, and I had absolutely no idea what to do. Do not assume that I have never cared. You ran off. You abandoned me, called me a monster. You took the twins away from me and I had to learn of their identity on my own. I have started my cause to help people who are different because I will not stand for a group of people to go through what we did. I changed my name because I had to. Of course I loved you, Magda. I did everything to protect you in the camp. I would have done anything for you, but you abandoned me when I needed you most. You fled from me because of what I am.”

“Why Erik to what do I owe this visit?”

“Can I not see you whenever I please?”

“I can’t believe that.  There are good people, and I’ve met a few of them.  Erik…I — I don’t know.  Sometimes I think I’ve got more in common with you than I do anyone in the family.  Maybe I’m wrong, and I know I haven’t been through the same shit, trust me, I know what’s happened to me can’t hold a candle to that, but I know it can make you angry and fucked up and…      Listen, I’m going to tell you something, but just please don’t tell anyone else.      For a while now, Lilith and I have been going out on our own, taking people out.        It got frustrating seeing what the AMS did and just watching them go to jail and      break out again, so we started killing them.  And…ya know, I didn’t hate it.  I get       that there are people who need to die for our kind to live, but there’s got to be a      better way to do it than on national television.  I don’t think you’re the villain, but      I think, right now, you’re the one being blinded.  Because you’re pissed.”

“You owe me at least that, Max. You owe me, at the very least, one answer. Why?”

“I owe you absolutely nothing. Don’t you dare believe otherwise.”

“When is it not? So tell me about this new plan of yours.”

“Your confidence is always refreshing. We need to break out mutants that SHIELD has captured. I have given Riley this mission to do with it as you will, but I have something different in mind for you. I want you to take out the agents hunting these mutants.”

“You kill everyone who disagrees with you and how many people are left? Not even all your kids would make it through that kind of rule.”

“Don’t you of all people lecture me, Logan. We both have methods people don’t agree with. I stand by mine.”

“Oh my god, you actually believe you’re right, don’t you? Well, you should just know that if you ever try something like that again I’ll erase you from existence. And I’m not kidding.” 

“I know I’m right. Threaten what you will, grandson, but I believe we both know your mother wouldn’t allow you to do something like that.”
