Despite this being a punishment to make up for her theft, Kazumi had a lot of fun. To the point she already forgotten her crime completely. It made her want to try the same tactic at Tachibana-sanâs restaurant, though it will be impossible if her plan succeeds back at Asunaro city. At least she got to experience working like this for the first time.
As much fun as it was, she definitely did work a lot, and that single cake slice had all the energy it provided worked off. Making her stomach growl really loudly in response to Mamiâs question, and Kazumi letting out a small giggle.
âHee hee, howâd ya know?â
With the otherâs growly tummy, Mami couldnât help but notice and let out a small giggle herself.
âHmhmhm... Call it a senpaiâs intuition.âÂ
Suddenly walking around Kazumi and out from behind the table entirely, she would grab a hold of the other girlâs hand and begin quickly guiding her down the street, around a variety of other people and stands.
âDonât worry about the table back there; that was also a rental. Instead, lets focus on getting you somewhere I know we can make your tummy happy at. Besides... I just got paid, didnât I?â Turning her head around as she said that last part, she would stare and smile at Kazumi while also bringing up her other hand---just to flash a wiggling cell phone the otherâs way.

Eva had never been the best at self expression. Aside from the satisfied smile or annoyed glance, she didnât physically express her feelings that much. So, she stared down at the streets.
Watching the people from the streets below⌠It fascinated her. She had always been a little bit of a people watcher.
âItâs weird to think about. Everyone down there has their own life⌠Their own story, a story that weâll probably never get to be a part of. Isnât that strange, or is it just a thought only doctorâs have?â
Of course, she couldnât necessarily say that sheâd never see those peopleâs stories- they may end up being her patients one day⌠But they would never truly experience her presence.
âCherry blossoms, huhâŚ? I donât think Iâve seen one in person before. Especially not one in full bloom all year around.â
Sheâd have to make a note to spend time in Cortes.
âReality, illusions⌠If it makes you happy, does the difference between the two really matter?â
âMmmm, again, I donât quite know about that. You never know when you might cross paths with any of the people down below us there, or just somehow become apart of their lives in some kind of way---possibly by even helping them.â
Sure, it would be improbable to assume youâd ever get to know them personally, or bear witness to their life story, but the chance of still affecting them was always there... Maybe those were just the thoughts of a hero such as herself, though.
Speaking of which...
âIn fact, you mentioned just now that youâre a doctor? I would think someone such as yourself might think the opposite of what you said... Itâs people like you who are all about saving the lives of total strangers, no?â Mami would turn away from the people below, and back again to the woman standing beside her.
One thing was for certain, though: this womanâs proclaimed line of profession would definitely explain her coat.
âBut ah, I take it youâre not where Iâm from then... From beyond this place, I mean; not the ward. And, what exactly do you mean by that now? Of course it matters; the difference between reality and illusion is just... well, that. One is reality...â she would gesture to... the world at-large around them, with her eyes, before bringing them back onto her. â...The other... isnât. Unless you mean this place in particular, in which case...âÂ
Sheâd trail off at that last part.

You know some days, you just wanna see the sights. Mosey around. Live your life. Get some groceries as you ponder what might pair nicely with a good roast chicken for dinner tonight.
Then, out of nowhere, some blonde girl in pigtails starts laughing very loudly for some odd reason.
âUhâ? Hi, thereâŚ?âÂ
Rock scratches the back of his head, perplexed at the rather abrupt attention heâd found himself receiving. Cosplay? What; was she talking about the convention thing that happened on some islands, with cat ears and other such business?Â
He was pretty sure she was the only one wearing anything like that⌠Maybe she was looking at a reflection on his armor?
âYou mean the frills? Because Iâm pretty sure thatâs what youâre in, actuallyâŚâ He answered, scritching his cheek with a finger. âItâsâ a pretty outfit though, really!â
â...Huh? Me---Cosplay?âÂ
Blinking hurriedly a few times, all signs of giggles suddenly gone from her voice, the girl would actually glance down at her attire as if to actually make sure she hadnât suddenly transformed somehow.Â
No... No, she wasnât in uniform or anything... Well, wait, actually...
...Wait, did he actually mean---?
âYouâre not talking about my school uniform right now, are you? Oh no, no, no... This is just that: an outfit for school! ...Well, even if my school isnât anywhere around here, right now.â
I feel like every time I save someone else, Iâm saving myself just a little bit.
Iâll try my hardest.

@magicmusketâ
A loud crash could be heard from afar. Anyone within walking proximity might have been able to perceive the body of a girl being flung right into a trash can prior to the actual incident. The victim of such a barbaric act was facing three or four men, all different in height and size. However, she was also an active participant of this brawl.Â
Pulling herself up with difficulty, she pushes her body up by setting up both hands on the pavement. She proceeds to grab the trash can that formerly received her impact, now becoming a makeshift weapon â with great force, she threw it against her opponents without a second thought.Â
There were bystanders as usual (just like the regular people back at River City, innocent folk that didnât meddle with the violent bunch), so the high-schooler had to warn them. She wasnât about to be blamed over casualties!
âGet out if youâre not willing to fight!â
Indeed, Mami saw firsthand the other girl get flung into a trash can not far from her. The loud, metallic crashing sound that followed after only made it harder not to take note.
Letting out a shocked âAh!â, the ringlets-sporting girl immediately rushed over to the otherâs side, hair drills bouncing and schoolbag swinging with her movements, before crouching down beside her, worry present on her face---and soon, her voice.
âAre you alright?! Do you need me to call---â
She was promptly ignored, inadvertently pushed aside in the process of the other getting up, and then being left to only watch as she threw the entire, dented can at the men who had (as far as Mami knew), attacked this girl in the first place.
Simply standing there, almost as if it was out of respect towards her senior, and not just plain confusion and indecision on her part in regards on what to do next, the middle schooler could only watch as the brawl continued... while also perhaps standing just a bit too closely to the action herself, having not really heeded the otherâs warning.

Susie narrows her eyes at the girl. âDidnât I already give you a chocolate?â Jeez. Some people really donât like supporting their local businesses, huh?
She shakes her head, then procures another box of chocolates for her. She opens the box â indeed, there are a dozen, she can count them individually if she likes â then adds one more from the mostly eaten box along with a flyer for the Pandora Cafe and Susieâs Sweet Originals.
âTell you what. Letâs round it up to 1050 Dust, alright? You have my personal guarantee these are not sponsored by DevoLine.â
âDeal.â
What can she say? Mama and papa really didnât raise no fool. The real truth of the matter is she wouldâve agreed to whatever it was Susie said or offered next, anyways. She was just lucky enough to actually haggle her way through things for a little something extra.
Sheâs already pulling out her phone to make the purchase, ready to transfer the Dust to the other girlâs account when she was.Â
â...Say, what are you, exactly? Some sort of automatic, robotic assistant slash candy seller for some shop? Do you work for this... âSusieâ?â
She couldnât say sheâs ever seen anything quite like the other, but youâd be surprised; Mitakihara was quite the technological hub, and so the possibility of a candy-selling robot didnât really seem to come off as all that odd to her.

Ć. Wait a second, that wasnât the answer she was looking for! Bikki was expecting a laughter or something akin⌠Maybe how she approached it was the issue? Maybe her whole idea was the issue. Well, no backing down, now. If youâre going ahead, see it through the end.Â
Her expression shifted to a mildly disconcerted one as she thought about her options, being at the other side of the glass and all. That idea eventually emerged. Tachibana took her phone out and began writing on its screen, placing it against the crystal once she was done with it.Â
âSorry! You looked kinda down so I thought that might cheer you up! ( ăâ˝ă)â
â...............â
â...Oh.....â
 âOh... Ha... Hahaha...! Hahahahaha!â
Letting out a big enough, hard enough laugh that carried over even through the glass that separated the two of them (even if it came out a bit muffled), and which caused everybody else present in the cafe to turn and stare, Mami didnât even care or take note of them. She was too busy laughing, and facing the window for that matter, as well.
After eventually stopping (and even wiping a stray tear from her eye), Mami would take a moment to pull out her own phone and would seem to type up something on it herself before pressing it up to the glass, back at the other girl.
âThank you, that was very kind of you. Would you like to come in here and join me? I would love to treat you to whatever youâd like.â
Bribing others with food just to hang out with her... she really was lonely, wasnât she?

âExcuse me, Miss? Is this seat open?â How she had found this tiny, hole in the wall type of cafe, Kanon didnât quite remember anymore. But ever since she had found it a few weeks ago, she couldnât help but keep coming back. It was the tea, freshly blended before your eyes and steeped just long enough, that held her fancy. Collecting tea leaves was a secret hobby of hers, and the blends this cafe sold pleased her greatly.
It was hard to find things that she could enjoy in this odd place. She cherished the interests she came across.
âI apologize. Thereâs no other tables open and you looked a little lonely⌠If I am intruding Iâll find somewhere else.â Her grip tightened slightly around the warm cup in her hands, looking at the blonde expectantly.
For a girl like herself who sure hated being alone, she sure could be found that way a lot. She had made some friends since coming here, sure, but that didnât change the fact she could still usually be found all alone in a place like this, when she wasnât out walking around, exploring the city, watching for trouble, or just trying to see if she could find any clues about escaping this place.Â
In fact, she was in here right now because she had stopped for a break during one of her little excursions.Â
âOh?â
For whatever the reason, she couldnât help but find a bit of humor in what the other girl had to say about her.Â
â...Hmhmhm, I suppose I do look rather lonely, donât I? ...No, no; youâre absolutely fine. Please, please! Sit down.â
Mami would gesture to the seat placed right out across from her at the table.Â
She would then proceed to follow the girl with her eyes until she sat down, before turning and looking around at all the other cafe-goers around them, loudly chattering away with one another.
âThis place is a bit crowded, isnât it? Itâs not my usual.â
charmingsecretaryâ:
âHm?â Susie looks down at the box, which indeed, has less chocolates than should be expected from the cost. Thereâs a bit of chocolate smeared on what qualifies for her mouth, which she quickly wipes off with a monogrammed napkin.
âOh, heehee! I guess I got carried away with taste-testing my own creation. My bad! Tell you what, Iâll send you a box with a dozen if you place an order in the next sixty seconds.â
Sheâs silent as she eyes the odd little robot of a woman for a moment.
...Or, whatever she is.Â
Eventually though, after just a few seconds, Mami replies.Â
â...A bakerâs dozen.â
A dozen for whatâs about ten dollars is pretty fair. Thatâs less than a dollar per chocolate... But this is for trying to get her with just two in the first place---supposed âtaste-testingâ or not.

Suited for Success
ashes-of-omelasâ:
Lothric smiles tiredly. Where do people find the energy? He didnât know that Mami was so new. He flinches inwardly a little at the way she frames things; it sounds âbetterâ than his outlook, when she words it like that, and he feels an impulse to justify his reasoning. But heâs not going to start an argument about the true meaning of captivity at 8 pm in a shopping mall with someone whoâs recently been separated from all of her friends forever. Heâs going to have to talk about captivity with a lot of people, as this charity takes off. Perhaps he needs a blander, more factual story to hold alongside his personal one. Itâs certainly not how he would have worded things if he knew what kind of raw, immediate loss Mami was dealing with.
âThe fault is mine,â he says pleasantly, matching her energy. âI ventured into these conversational waters, regarding escape. You must forgive me, I did not know your experience of being brought here was so recent. I hope I have not upset you unduly. I am Lothric, my brother is Lorian. We would be glad to have your help. Our âweb-siteâ is already active, it should have the address of our office, and more information about our purposeâŚâ
He looks back to Lorian, whoâs already finding it on their phone. Lorian soon hands the phone to Lothric, who shows Mami.
âBounty of Light,â he says, with satisfaction. âIn Archimedes, near the Spirale Hole.â One of these days theyâll have business cards⌠so much to do, and somehow he already feels behind on all of it. âShould I text you the website?â he asks.
âOh no, no; no need to apologize---Lothric? Iâm Mami---Tomoe Mami. A pleasure. And, ah... Lorian? Thank you, thank you---â
Sheâs already turned between the two brothers and accepted the phone passed on from Lorian to Lothric to her, tucking the two coats she was still holding into the crook of one of her arms.
Brothers, huh? Mami would be lying if she said she had never wished for a sibling like that... And especially one so tall! It would help her for reaching up to pantries.
Scrolling through the website with one finger moving up on the phoneâs screen as she gives it all a fairly thorough, but still speedy look-through, she nods her head along to what sheâs able to catch of it.
â...Mmm, yes, yes. Iâm familiar with the names of those two locations already, so thatâs good.âÂ
Extending the phone back out towards Lothric, she would look on at him with her now seemingly ever-present smile, after the one slip-up that had come from what she had said prior.
âI think I got the gist of it, but I wouldnât mind a link to it anyways, just so I can review. I truly love the sound of it---Bounty of Light---and I think what youâre doing here is something thatâs very much needed. In fact, Iâm surprised no one else has thought of it yet before!â
She truly had no idea of how long people have been here for (Lothric and Lorian included), with it being something she hadnât really thought too hard about, but, if she ever did find out, she would be even more shocked---and impressed.
gungnircladâ:
âŞâ TIME TO TURN UP THE VOLUME @magicmusketâ !
Ć. Did she just stop mid-walk to gently knock on a cafeteriaâs glass, then wave at a complete stranger just because she saw her in what seemed to be a pretty gloomy mood? Bikki geniunely seemed to want to cheer her up but was this the way, tho? What a strange lad you are, Tachibana. Stop smiling like that, you idiot. At least this would probably steal a laugh from her.
âSadâ wasnât a face Mami Tomoe liked to wear often. Not only did it clash with the image she tried to cultivate and maintain for herself of a âcoolâ, reliable senpai figure, but it also usually brought on far too many questions from those kind enough to actually show concern for her.Â
Questions she just wasnât able to share the answers to.
Letting out a sigh as she closed her eyes after just staring blankly ahead at nothing for a while, a still steaming cup of hot tea in front of her, she would be stirred out of her thoughts by the knocking on a glass window beside her.
Immediately opening her eyes again and turning towards the source of the knocking, she could only look on in confusion at the girl behind the glass smiling and waving her way.
Slowly she would bring a hand up and wave back at them... if apprehensively, and with a look of confusion still worn across her face.
âDo I... know them...?â
