Two northern flickers (Colaptes auratus)
They look so texture
I love them so much and I only just learned about them.
They're amazing and beautiful and I love them. I especially love how they look like they're wearing little gorgets on their fronts.
In my area, they are the only woodpecker that's any color other than red, white, and black. Even the yellow-bellied sapsucker (best woodpecker name ever) doesn't really have a belly that's THAT yellow.
Also, you know how Darwin was in one of those clubs where the whole point was they tried to EAT all the different kinds of animals? Because of this, I know that the Northern Flicker's diet is mainly ants, and its flavor was described as acidic and "tasting like ants" or something along those lines, which - WHAT?!?
