Magic Life In The Making

For as long as I can remember I have tried to stay up as late as possible on Friday night. After a long week of having to be in bed by a certain time the rebel in me wants to defy bedtime on Friday knowing that I get to sleep in on Saturday. It feels a tiny bit like I’m breaking the rules and it’s good and special and a little magical too. Throw in a long 3 day weekend and it’s even better. But bedtime sees me. It sees that I missed bedtime everyday this week…by a lot. And bedtime is working it’s magic. Before I know it the clock reads 8:30 or 9:00 and my eyes refuse to stay open. I relent and force myself to bed. I know I’ll end up waking up early Saturday morning despite my attempt to sleep in, but I’m ok with that. Summer. It is my favorite time of year. Summer is long days and magic and slow down and warmth and laughter. I am sad that this season is coming to a close. Tonight I took the long way around after checking the mail and I was hit with the wonder of it all. I have let this season fly by in a blink and that makes me sad. Listening to the sounds of the early evening, feeling the warm breeze on my checks, the sky painted in the most magnificent colors...it made me want to rewind and do it all again, only this time paying attention. Unfortunately, that’s not how it works so I have to move forward in these last days of Summer and savor what is left. I hope that you have a chance to savor it too.
