This is my story about the birth of the Potter's third baby, featuring Leo POV (because I love him)! This is a Part 1 of 3.
Part 2, Part 3
Also in full on ao3!
As always, big thank you to @lumosinlove, your work is amazing!
For context: Finn is retired and is taking graduate school classes while also teaching high school English. The others still play for the Lions!
Thanks for reading and let me know what you think! Enjoy!
-------------------------------
Leo flicked off the TV, smiling as he texted Noelle a congrats on her all-stars 3-on-3 tournament win. He had a few hours before Logan and Sirius’s game, and now he had to figure out his lunch plans.
He wished more than ever that he was there at the all-stars games with them. Not competing, but just watching from the stands with James and the kids as Logan and Sirius flew across the ice. But his current MCL sprain was still healing, and Logan had insisted that he stay and recover.
“Being in a car for hours, or even on a plane, and then walking around the stadium is not going to do anything to help you, mon soleil.” Leo had protested, but Logan had been firm. “It’s not that I don’t want you there, beurre. In any other circumstance, I would beg you to come. But you need time to heal. I’ll be back before you know it.”
And Logan was right. His knee had been aching the past few days, and he couldn’t imagine walking around New York City right now. But he was still lonely and missing his boys.
It would be far more bearable if Finn had been home, but his graduate school had their annual Literary Scholar conference that weekend, much to Finn’s chagrin.
“The same exact time and the same exact weekend as all-stars, all the way across the country!” Finn had complained after class one night. Finn’s conference was in California, while Logan was heading to New York.
A few days before he had to go, he had tapped Leo from his place on his chest, kissing his cheek and suggesting, “I can stay if you want, Le. Keep you company while you’re stuck here. Really, my professors would understand.”
But Leo had quickly waved the suggestion off. He knew Finn was looking forward to the conference, as much as he complained about having to miss all-stars. And it was important for his degree.
“No, Finn, you have to go. I’ll be fine. Definitely lonely, but I’ll be okay. Not my first time stuck home with a hockey injury. Besides, I’ll probably visit Loops and Lily to watch the games. Just promise to call?” And Finn had abruptly kissed all over his face, squeezing him tighter in his arms, promising to text and call him every hour.
Sure enough, when he checked his phone he found another text from Finn. A picture of him grinning wide, three of his classmates surrounding him in what looked like a large auditorium. Finn’s eyes were large and he was pointing excitedly up at someone on a stage. His next text said, Jane Goodwell, author of literally all the books I use to teach essay writing to my high school students! I’m so star-struck right now! And he genuinely looked it, eyes wide and smile bright as ever.
Leo sent back a picture of himself, knowing the boys would be disappointed if he didn’t. He captioned it, Just finished watching your sister’s win, Tremzy. Should I expect the same victory tonight?
Logan replied a few minutes later with a picture of himself with Sirius, James, and the kids at what looked like a restaurant. Gonna crush this man up, he’s not even gonna know what hit him.
The organization had placed Sirius and Logan on opposing teams for the 3-on-3, something that had disappointed them both. Just the night before, Remus had been telling him that Sirius was bummed by it. Leo had been able to share right back with a story of Logan’s whined complaints at the news.
But despite the time spent with Remus and Lily, and the night Pascal had invited him over for dinner with the family, he was still feeling down. He just really did miss his boys’ company.
It had been a difficult few days of no sleep. Listening to his boys drifting off while they were still on the phone, both trying to stay on longer, Finn getting to spend a few extra hours on with the California time difference. But even when Finn drifted off at 2 a.m. Gryffindor time, Leo stayed awake, staring at the lights playing on the ceiling, unable to sleep.
The pain didn’t help much, either. Each shift of his knee causing him a twinge and a sucked in breath. When his boys had been home, they had helped him figure out a way for him to sleep comfortably, knee at the perfect angle. He hadn’t been able to find that position again without them.
It was a good thing they were coming home the next day. He could hardly wait for the cuddles he was going to get. He could just imagine Logan tucking himself around Leo, head on his chest, speaking quick, yet calm French, and Finn, tracing along the bags under his eyes, kissing away the tired lines of his face.
Tomorrow. He would see them tomorrow.
He sighed, opening his eyes, groaning as he moved his knee from its straightened position.
It was lunchtime. Maybe he could heat up the leftovers from yesterday. Or should he make some food to bring over to Lily and Remus when he went to watch the men’s 3-on-3? Could he stand that long to cook something? His boys had been ordering takeout. Don’t overexert yourself, Le. Sit, sit, we don’t want to irritate the sprain.
His phone ringing decided it for him.
“Hey, Loops, what’s up?”
“Leo, thank the lord. Why does no one answer their phone?” Remus’s voice was frantic and his breathing was quick.
“Huh?” Remus sounded extremely uncharacteristically nervous, and it made Leo sit up straighter, pulling at his injury, but he kept in the sharp gasp of pain.
“Sorry, nothing,” his voice disappeared for a minute, as though he was talking to someone on the other side, “What color is the bag? Okay, yes, I’m going. Yes, on that, too.” Then his voice was back. “Hey, Lily’s in labor and we’re heading to the hospital.”
“Oh.” Lily was getting close, at the point in her pregnancy where she couldn’t stand without assistance, and could only go about ten minutes between bathroom breaks. But her due date was still a few weeks away. That was the only reason James had been okay with Lily’s suggestion to go to the all-star games with the kids, getting them out of the house for a few days and giving Lily some extra time to rest. Remus had offered to stay as an extra safety measure, and he had told Leo that Sirius and James sometimes just needed some “hockey bro time” to get it out of their system every once in a while. Leo had laughed and said that Logan would fit right into that dynamic.
None of them had thought… “Isn’t it early?”
“Yeah. She’s not due for another few weeks. But we’ve gotta go. James and Sirius aren’t answering their phones. Of course. Because why would James keep his phone on when his wife is at 38 weeks gestation?” Leo was used to Remus being the definition of calm. It was disconcerting to hear his voice like this.
“You alright, Loops?”
Remus’s voice softened then. “Yes, sorry. Trying to stay calm for Lily. But third babies come really fast, and I’m not exactly trained to deliver an infant.”
“What do you need me to do?”
“Get ahold of them, if you can. Maybe Logan’s with them?” Leo nodded, although he knew Remus couldn’t see him.
“Oh, yeah, he is! Hang on, I’m on it. Want me to meet you at the hospital?”
“Please?”
Leo stood gingerly, moving slowly to grab his keys and a jacket.
“Of course. I’ll call Lo, see if I can get ahold of James and I’ll be right over.” He paused for a second. “I can still drive with an MCL sprain, right?” His boys had been especially doting on him the past few days, not letting him do anything for himself, it seemed like. He couldn’t remember what Lars had said about it.
“Yeah, they said it was Grade 1?”
“Uh-huh.”
“You should be good.” Remus’s voice became steadier as he continued answering what Leo assumed must be a familiar question. “Just take it easy walking, you don’t want it bending the wrong way and injuring it more. Wear the brace Lars gave you, and if it hurts you can switch to some tape. I can check it out once you’re at the hospital, but you should be good to drive.”
“Thanks, Loops. I’ll see you at the hospital.”
They hung up, Leo quickly snapping on the brace as he flipped to Logan’s contact. Logan answered on the second ring, making Leo’s heart soar with appreciation for one love of his life.
“Beurre! How are you? Resting up, I hope?” Logan’s voice filled his ears and he sighed in relief.
“Hi, yeah, yeah, Lo. Um, could you put Pots on?”
“Uh, yeah, everything okay?” Leo pushed out the door, moving slowly toward the car.
“Yeah, it’s Lily…”
The phone shuffled over and James answered, sounding very confused.
“...wants to talk to me? What?”
“James?”
“Yeah, what’s up?”
“Remus has been trying to call you…” James cut him off.
“Everything okay? Lily?”
“She’s gone into labor.”
He heard a clatter from the other side, then a shuffling, and voices asking what was going on. “Oh my God my phone’s dead. Lily is going to kill me!”
“Yeah, well Remus is taking her to the hospital and I’m meeting them there. Everything’s okay, but you should probably get here asap. Loops says third babies come fast.”
“They do!” James said, voice now panting. “We read about it and the doctor said…” There was more shuffling on the other side. The phone was handed between people. Leo heard Sirius’s distinct voice say, “Oh my God my phone’s on silent, Remus and Lily are going to kill me!”
Then Logan’s voice. “Lily’s in labor?”
“Yeah. James needs to get here.”
“Okay, okay.”
There was talking, the sound of a door shutting and children’s voices. Then more talking as a car started up.
The phone was passed to someone else. Sirius.
“Hey, Knutty. We’re getting James to the airport right now. Tell Lily he’s coming and he’ll be free to call. And my phone’s sound is on now if Remus needs anything.”
“Okay,” Leo promised to relay the message before Sirius thanked him and handed the phone back to Logan.
“You driving there, Le? Are you cleared to be driving?”
“Loops said it’s alright. Don’t worry about me, Lo. Look, I want to talk, but I’ve got to call Loops back now, so I’ll talk to you later, promise.”
“Of course. Call me when you can, Soleil. Love you.”
“Love you, too.” The phone hung up and he called Loops to deliver the news.
------
Surprisingly enough, Logan had been the one to find out Lily was pregnant first. And he asked about it in the most Logan way possible.
“Is Lily pregnant, too?”
Right in the middle of a house party where Nat, Kasey, and Alex had announced that they were expecting (which had not come as a surprise to them, as they had been told alongside an ecstatic Finn about two weeks prior).
Everyone had stopped to stare, and Logan looked sheepish, clearly not having meant to say that so loudly.
“Huh?” Sirius had said from beside Logan. “Why do you say that, Lo?”
Which was clearly a tricky question. Pascal had watched, one of the few alongside Leo who understood Sirius’s quick, muttered French, very clearly nervous about what Logan was about to say.
Leo held his breath as well. He knew Logan had grown up with three older sisters and knew how to be respectful. But that went both ways. He could also be quite unfazed and nonchalant about the things women go through that men rarely thought about. He still remembered him asking Adele if she needed a heating pad, chocolate, and some Advil when they had been watching the kids, not embarrassed in the slightest, just happy to help her feel better. A few years ago, Logan had noticed that Lily had leaked a bit of milk after breast feeding, and had bluntly pulled James’s sweatshirt from where it was bundled up on their floor, and handed it to her, offering to take baby Evie for a minute if she wanted to change.
“Well James has mentioned she’s been sick a few mornings this month, and, well, usually she and Nat are like the life of the party, but they’ve both been sleepy. And, well, I noticed that you’ve been bottle feeding Evie more, because James has been talking about how excited he is that he gets to take over more feedings than usual, and I know that…well… breast feeding can be…painful…” Logan had drifted off, now looking a bit awkward and uncomfortable. “Not to mention the lack of alcohol…”
“Okay, fine, yes, Tremzy,” Lily said, laughing from her place next to Nat. She placed a hand on her stomach, gesturing for a stunned-looking James to join her.
“We’re pregnant!”
There was more cheering, and Nat embraced Lily, looking as surprised as ever and talking about how they were going to have kids the same age.
James drifted over to their group, where Sirius was looking a little stunned and a little offended.
“Congrats, Pots. Sorry for…” Finn gestured at Logan who looked sheepish, but was grinning as he patted James on the back.
“Makes announcing it easier!” James said with a shrug.
“How come I’m never the first to find out?” Sirius was staring at Remus, who wouldn’t meet his eyes. “Did you know this time, too, mon loup?” Before Remus could answer, he turned to glare at James again. “You told Remus before me again?”
Remus smiled as James started shaking his head vigorously. He put a calming hand on his back.
“Sirius, they didn’t tell me anything. I just…noticed, okay? I’m with Lily a lot and you kind of do notice these things after awhile. And I didn’t want to straight up ask,” Remus gave a pointed look to Logan.
“And you didn’t share with me? What’s a husband for, huh?”
Remus just laughed, going to clap James on the back, giving Sirius a kiss on the cheek, then gave way for Sirius to gather James in a hug.
“Another godchild! James, Lily, you’ve blessed me with so much joy!” James laughed at his antics.
Lily piped up from across the room, “Actually, we were hoping to ask Remus to be godfather this time.”
It was Remus’s turn to look surprised, pausing for a second before he was wiping at his eyes as he went to hug Lily.
“Really, Lils?”
“Remus, of course! You’re like a brother to me! You kept secrets from your husband for me!” Sirius let out an indignant noise, but Lily just smiled. “Will you be the godfather?”
“Of course! It would be an honor!”
“Wait, wait, James!” Sirius protested, watching the scene unfold, looking like he was going to burst. “But, I’m…”
Remus looked back at him, eyebrow raised. Sirius’s eyes jumped between James and Remus.
“I meant, of course, mon loup, you…yeah of course…”
James laughed once again, slinging an arm around Sirius and pulling him in.
“The baby will need two godparents, Sirius.” And Leo laughed as he watched Sirius visibly deflate with relief.

Here is Part 1 and Part 2!

“So tiny!” Finn said quietly, or as quietly as Finn ever did anything, as Leo led him and Logan into Lily’s hospital room after knocking. The bundled up infant was now in her Uncle Sirius’s arms, sleeping. Euphemia Potter was beaming as she murmured to Sirius, one hand squeezing Sirius’s forearm, the other coming around to rub at the baby’s cheek.
In the years prior, Leo had come to realize that Effie treated Sirius as she treated James, as her own sons. He also knew, from Regulus’s own admission, that they often invited Regulus to Potter holiday gatherings, as they did with Sirius, and that Regulus thought very highly of James’s dad, Monty Potter.
“Unca Finn!” Harry called, jumping up from where he’d been cuddled next to Monty on the hospital couch and running to hug Finn’s legs. Finn laughed and swung Harry up in his arms.
“Hey little Pots!” Harry giggled as he was swung upside-down and then taken into Logan’s arms, who gave his cheek a kiss and then swung him into Leo’s own arms. Leo took Harry, also giving him a kiss and setting him back down with a ruffle to his hair.
“We don’t want to overwhelm you, Lily dear. Why don’t we take the kids out into the waiting room? Maybe some ice cream is in order?” Effie said as James ran over and hugged around his grandma’s legs.
“Thanks, Effie.”
Effie kissed Lily on the forehead, then led Monty, who was carrying a sleeping Evie in his arms, out of the room, Harry tearing his eyes away from the visitors with the promise of chocolate ice cream.
Once they were gone, Leo and the boys moved closer to the bed and Sirius, who stood next to James, Remus perched on the foot of Lily’s bed, all gazing at the little girl. He lowered his arms a bit so they could see.
“Looking a little less purple now, huh?” Finn asked, giving Leo a quirked smile. He felt himself blush, looking guiltily over at Lily, who let out a tired laugh.
“Yes, she’s returned to a human color, finally,” James said with a chuckle.
The baby had bright red hair, Logan muttering a quick rouge with a smile, a nudge, and a point.
“Always nice to have more red-heads in the world!” Finn said, leaning over so he could answer Lily’s high-five.
As they moved closer, they caught a glimpse of blinking brown eyes opening. And Leo could admit, now she looked quite adorable.
“Eyes like her dad’s!” Leo said, glancing between the two. James smiled, pushing his glasses to his nose to look over them at them all.
“Yeah, finally!” James said, as Lily piped up, “you win some and you lose some.”
Then the baby let out a screech.
“Oh,” they all stepped back as Sirius patted her on the back.
“That’s a hungry cry,” James said, Sirius handing her over to him as he moved to transfer the baby back to Lily.
“Ah, well, we can step out if you want privacy, Lily,” Logan offered.
“Unless it makes any of you uncomfortable you can stay.”
James helped Lily adjust her hospital gown. Once she was settled, James stood back up, gazing at them as he spoke.
“We would like you all to know that we’ve decided on a name,” James said.
“Oh yeah?” Remus asked, looking curious.
“But…we’re going to wait and announce it later. We’re still workshopping middle name options, I think.”
“What, you’re not even going to tell her godfather?” Sirius asked.
“Godfathers,” Lily corrected. “And no, not yet. You’ll just have to be patient and wait.”
“Oh, mon dieu,” Sirius said as Remus laughed and clapped him on the back with a “definitely his strong suit.”
They talked for a little longer before Lily’s lunch was brought in and they decided to give the family some space.
---------
A week later, Lily had invited some family and friends over to visit, having a short “welcoming party” where they would reveal the name they’d picked, and have some food, and then leave the family to rest.
“Knutty!” James sang out as the three of them entered the living room area. Harry, who had opened the door for them, was now being wrestled between Finn and Logan, giggles filling the space. “Lily has not stopped talking about your heroics!”
“Best labor coach I’ve had yet, Leo!” She said from the couch. Leo felt himself blush, and felt a kiss on each cheek from his boys.
“It was nothing,” he tried to protest.
“Not nothing. The calmest person ever,” Lily argued.
“It comes with the territory of goalieing I guess.”
His boys came up on either side of him, having set Harry down to run off with the presents they had brought, Harry having already ripped his own open to reveal a new set of matchbox cars.
“Butter, you’re the best!”
“Bravest boy I know!”
“You better watch out, Knut, I’ve told Nat all about you and she’s roping you in for the next one!” Lily piped up once again.
“Well, I’m happy to help.”
“Lily’s been threatening to call you every day for the past week to see if you can calm this one,” James said, gesturing to the little girl who had started whimpering, probably startled by the noise of their arrival.
Leo didn’t know whether to reply or try to be quiet for the baby, and was luckily saved by another knock at the door.
Harry ran out of the room excitedly to answer it.
“Who else is coming?” Remus asked from Lily’s side.
“Well, Pascal’s whole family is sick, so they're waiting until they’re healthier…”
A voice from the hall interrupted them.
“Hey, Harry,” Kasey’s voice came in from the front hall.
“Did you bring me some cars, too?”
They didn’t hear the reply, only a cheer and running feet. A moment later, Kasey walked in, smiling, a casserole pan in hand.
“Hey, Lily? How’re you feeling? Oh, she’s beautiful!” He said, coming over to admire the baby being bounced in James’s arms, patting him on the back.
They heard more noise from the front hall, and Alex’s voice rang out in a greeting. Finn looked up, a confused look on his face at the sound of his brother’s voice.
“Um, not that I’m unhappy that you’re both here, but shouldn’t you be at home with your three weeks postpartum wife?” Lily asked from the couch, smiling as Kasey came over and kissed her forehead before standing up and rustling Evie’s hair, who had her arms hugged around Sirius’s neck, forehead nuzzled into his neck, hiding her face from all the company. He handed her the little pink gift bag in his arms and Sirius pulled her into his lap, helping her open it. Sirius pulled out the stuffie, making it give kissy noises as he held it to her face. She let out a soft squeal and a “thanks you Unca Bizzawd,” as she clutched the bunny stuffie close.
“No problem, sweetheart, you’re a big sister now! Congrats!” He straightened back up. “Yeah, we would be home, but she insisted that she’d get more rest if we were out of the house. Basically kicked us out the door for a few hours. Peace and quiet and all that.”
“Not with two babies to take care of,” Finn said, clearly disturbed by his brother’s actions toward his sister-in-law. “Why are you here, Alex?” He called out toward the front hall where Alex had yet to emerge.
“I’ve got the goods!” Alex said as he carefully maneuvered into the room, a baby car seat in each hand.
“Weird thing to call our children,” Kasey said, coming over to grab one of the car seats from Alex, who, like a true O’Hara, must have insisted on carrying them both himself.
The seats were set down and Finn let out an identical squeal to the one that had gotten him banned from the O’Darwin residence for the foreseeable future.
“Didn’t mean to crash the party, Lily,” Kasey said, but Lily waved off the worry. “Just thought it would be as good a time as any for more baby cuddles with the extended family. Also, Nat insisted on pictures and videos.” Kasey said, gesturing toward the phone in his hands. “As soon as they wake up. They’re just napping now.”
“My godchildren!” Finn was now on his knees, looking into the car seats, then looked up with a mocking sad face. “Sorry, Lils, Pots. Your new baby is adorable. The cutest thing. But these two have my heart.”
“You can love more than two babies, rouge,” Logan said, chuckling.
One of the twins snuffled and Finn let out another squeal of excitement and blinked tears out of his eyes.
He had been a complete wreck when Alex, Nat, and Kasey had asked him to be the godfather of the baby, which they later found out would be two babies. Then he had been a wreck when he found out he’d be godfather for them both. Then when he got the text that Nat had gone into labor. Then again when they got a text with pictures of the newborns. Then again when they got to meet them.
For someone who didn’t cry a lot, Finn sure had a teary past few weeks. Not that Logan and Leo hadn’t had their share of happy tears alongside him. Officially becoming uncles had been a truly amazing and unbelievable experience for all of them in their own ways.
The way Finn already loved these babies with all of his heart made Leo eagerly await a baby of their own. A baby Finn could look at like that all the time. That would be theirs. Or maybe a few babies. Who knew?
And he saw the look in Logan’s eyes that was probably matching his own each time Finn cradled one of the twins close, cooing at them. He knew that after this event in particular, they’d all be leaving with massive baby fever. By the look on Logan’s face, he had already contracted it.
A few more years. They really weren’t ready yet. Especially Leo himself. But if they gave him a few more years, he might just be.
Alex just rolled his eyes as two pairs of eyes blinked sleepily open at the noise.
“Well, they were napping. Fish, this is why you’re banned.” But Alex was already bending down to one of the twins who had begun fussing, talking in a soft, calming voice.
Finn worked on the straps of the other.
“Well, if you’re always with them, then they must be used to the O’Hara noise.”
“Yeah, but at least they like my voice.”
“Dang, these straps.” Kasey bent down next to Finn, and Finn shuffled out of the way as Kasey was able to maneuver the straps to get the baby out.
“Here’s Evan,” he handed him gently to Finn who immediately held him to his chest and started cooing. Kasey moved over to help Alex maneuver the straps on the other one.
“I don’t want to hurt her arm.”
“She’s okay,” Kasey said, but they still hadn’t gotten her out. Kasey groaned as he moved to sit in a more comfortable way.
“Need help?” James asked, having handed the baby over to Lily for the moment, bending down. Alex relented, shifting the seat over so James could try. In a minute, James had gotten her out. “Here.”
“Magician,” Alex said, patting him on the back and yawning.
“I’ve been doing this a long time. You’ll get used to it, I promise.”
“Thanks, Pots,” Kasey said, taking the baby girl into his arms and looking around to see who seemed ready to hold her. His eyes stopped on Leo and he smiled.
“Uncle Leo’s turn?” And a minute later, a tiny weight was delivered into his open arms. Leo gazed down, adjusting her as she fussed.
“You’re okay, Rosalyn,” he said softly as she stopped fussing and nuzzled into his chest.
“See? What did I say? The calmest!” Lily exclaimed, still patting the baby in her arms to calm her down.
Leo felt a figure on his side and he tore his gaze away from the soft blue eyes and blond hair.
Logan was smiling down at him, an almost gooey expression on his face, tears gathering in his eyes.
“We’ve actually been calling her Rosie and she seems to prefer it,” Kasey said as he gazed happily at them.
“Such a pretty name, Rosie!” Leo said, wiggling one of her hands in his. She grasped onto his pointer finger and he melted.
Finn cooed as he walked toward them, settling down on a seat next to Leo.
Leo and Logan exchanged a grin and glanced at Finn.
“You three are too cute.” Lily said.
James grinned. “Watch out, boys, you’re going to leave here with baby fever.”
“Well, I for one already have it,” Sirius said, gazing lovingly at Remus, who had been handed the baby redhead, now walking her around, in an attempt to get her calm.
“Well, now seems as good a time as any to share her name to everyone. Could you record it?” Lily held out a phone, which Alex took. James grabbed Harry, who had been gazing at Evan, and settled next to Lily, mirroring Sirius at Remus’s side, Evie now facing the baby.
Remus and Sirius watched, along with everyone else as Lily smiled and held out a little hat.
“Effie knew the name before, so she made a little hat with the nickname we’ve decided on. But, we’ve decided on…”
They all held their breaths, excitement palpable.
“Remus Rose Potter.”
It was a hilarious sight to watch. Leo would have to ask for the recording.
Remus’s eyes widened over at Lily, clarifying what she had just said.
“Rose Potter? Like your middle name?”
“Remus Rose Potter,” James corrected, laughing at the surprise on Remus’s face. It took him a moment to realize what he was hearing.
“Oh, God.” Then Remus was wiping at his eyes. “Lily, James, I…”
And then she was gesturing him closer, pulling him into a hug, James gently taking the baby from his arms as he looked seemed to be in shock.
“Really?” Remus asked again when he was released from the hug. “Do you really want to…I don’t know…doom her like that?” There were chuckles around the room.
“Oh Remus, you’re so dramatic!” Lily said, laughing and hugging him once more.
“In middle school I really didn’t like my parents for a time there. And again when Jules came along and he wasn’t named after mythology. It didn’t help that the last name was Lupin. Wolf Wolf you know?”
Lily laughed again.
“Oh, God she’s gonna hate me.”
“She’s gonna love you. Matching names, Uncle Remus and Remus Potter!” Sirius said from his side, kissing him on the cheek.
“She’ll be our little Remy!” James said, picking up the little hat that Effie Potter had embossed with little letters spelling out REMY on it. “That’ll help us keep you two straight!”
“Y…yeah probably, huh?” Remus asked. But he still looked unsure. “Did…did you think she was gonna be a boy?”
“If she was a boy she would have been Sirius,” James admits. Then it was Sirius’s turn to look shocked, mouth open, before he tried to discreetly wipe at his eyes, not exactly an easy task while still holding a two-year old Evie in his arms.
“You really are like a brother to us, Remus. And not just because you’re married to my everything but legal or biological brother,” James said.
“Honestly, Remus, you kept me sane throughout this whole pregnancy. You got me to the hospital so I could actually have her. You’re her godfather. She’s gonna love sharing a name with you.”
“I hope you’re right,” Remus said, gazing at the baby once again. “Really, Lily, James, I’m honored.” Lily gave him yet another hug. “Well, Remus “Remy” Rose Potter, welcome to your Gryffindor Lions family!”
------
Leo: the master of co-regulation. This’ll definitely be a helpful skill when he’s got his own purple newborns to take care of!
Poor Remus sometimes hates his name, but don’t worry, he really is honored. And Remy Rose absolutely adores her uncle (and her name)!
And of course I had to add in the baby O’Darwins in there, too. Welcome Rosie and Evan!

TW: Birth, hospitals, needles
Thanks for reading and let me know what you think! Enjoy!
------------------
Leo had never actually seen a birth before. Sure, he had visited his aunt and little cousins in the hospital when they were born. But it had been after everything, when the babies had been at least a few hours old, everything cleaned and freshened up. So when he got there and was ushered directly into Lily’s room, he was worried that he’d be violating a private moment.
But Lily wasn’t even in the hospital bed. Instead, she was up and walking around the room, hand on her belly, Remus next to her, gripping an elbow.
“Hey, Leo, thanks for coming.” Lily said as she saw him.
“Oh, yeah, no problem.” Leo winced as his knee twinged. “Mind if I sit?” Both of them waved him to the couch and he took a seat. “You got the messages, right? James is on his way.”
“Yeah, yeah. I called him a few minutes ago. He was just getting to the airport. Said he’d call…” she broke off with a groan and gripped Remus’s arm tightly. Remus winced, but talked to her in his calm PT voice as he helped her breathe through the contraction. He seemed better than he had over the phone, most likely more comfortable at a hospital in this situation than at the Potter’s home.
After a minute or two, Lily stood straight again. “Ooh that was a good one. Ouch. Sorry, Rem.” He waved her off as she continued walking. “He said he’d call when he got a flight.”
Sure enough, a few minutes later, her phone rang. Leo handed it to her as she sat back on the hospital bed to answer.
Remus came over to where he had sat back on the couch.
“Leg okay?”
“What? Oh, yeah. Feeling better when I sit.”
“Okay,” Remus bent down to study the brace, adjusting it and then straightening back up. “Looks a lot better than it did at the game.” Leo breathed out a laugh.
“Yeah, feels a lot better, too. I’ll get back on the ice in no time!”
“I don’t doubt it, Knutty. But no rush.”
Although they had a game coming up in a week, Leo already knew he’d have to sit that one out. But he was hoping to be back for the next after that.
“Yeah, thanks Loops.” Remus clapped him on the back.
“Yeah, well let me know if it starts hurting again. I’m happy to check it out. At least do something I know how to do today.” Leo nodded, both of them turning their attention back to Lily, who was looking relieved. James had found a flight, then.
Remus broke their silence with another clap on his back.
“Thanks again for being here, man. I appreciate it. Really didn’t mean to freak out that bad. It was unexpected. I’m pretty out of practice with the whole calm PT thing.”
“Calmer than I would have been.” Leo couldn’t imagine having to rush Lily to the hospital, James or his boys not answering their phones.
“Eh, you’re a pretty calm guy, Knutty. Compared to your better two-thirds, huh?”
Well, that was definitely true, even if it didn’t always feel like it.
“This feels like Harry’s birth all over again. But that time, I was freaking out for a whole different reason,” Remus said.
Sirius, Leo translated. Although he didn’t remember exactly what went down that day, he did remember James and Remus leaving the game in a rush, the rest of the team worried for their captain. They hadn’t even realized until later that Lily had gone into labor.
“Good thing you stayed here with Lily, huh?” Leo asked. Remus gave a relieved nod.
“Yeah, I thought everything would be smooth sailing since the last one.”
Euphemia Violet Potter had come on a day that was as calm as she had turned out to be. Sunny and bright, a Saturday in August, one day past her due date. From James’s excited text from that day, Leo knew that Lily’s epidural had worked and she had a five-hour labor and a quick, supposedly easy, birth. When first visiting the baby girl they had now come to know as Evie, he could have predicted that the girl’s temperament would be like her namesake’s, a woman who Leo had seen a handful of times at games and events. Calm, easygoing, generally happy, shy. Not qualities often seen in toddlers, but something that the little girl with straight black hair and bright blue eyes had an abundance of. The best Leo could describe her as was a much calmer version of James mixed with a shyer version of Lily. She had been described as “a mix between her Grandma Potter and Grandpa Evans.”
Leo had no idea what to expect from this one. But if the day was anything to go by, they were going to be one energetic kid.
Lily hung up, and relayed the information James gave her. It seemed that James had made it on a flight. He had already called Pascal for a ride from the airport. He would be there in a little less than two hours. Harry and Evie would be staying with Logan and Sirius until their game, and then be watched by Noelle and Thomas. They would all be back as expected the next day.
“Now we just have to keep you,” Lily spoke to her belly, “in for a few more hours so that your dad can be here for your birth.” She looked up at them after a moment, brow furrowed. “He’ll be devastated if he misses it.”
“It’ll be okay, Lily,” Leo found himself saying, slowly walking over to her and taking her hand. “He’s on his way. And we’ll be here as long as you want us here.”
“Thanks, Leooo…” she broke off and squeezed all the blood and feeling out of Leo’s hands with another contraction.
After a minute, she let go and Leo sat back down, leg twinging. She looked over at Remus, a mix of nerves and certainty on her face. “I want to call my parents.”
Leo didn’t know very much about Lily’s parents. She rarely talked about them, only ever mentioning that they had moved to London a few years back, something about reconciling with Petunia, who Leo later learned was her sister.
“You sure, Lils?”
“I just think…think I’d like to talk with them.”
“Okay, okay. Do you need us to leave the room? I’ll go grab you some more ice chips. I’ve got to call Sirius and rat him out anyway for not answering his phone.” Lily nodded. Leo, unsure of his welcome, shifted in his seat on the couch. After Remus vanished, he tentatively moved to stand, but Lily stopped him.
“You can stay if you want, Leo. I wouldn’t mind the company. Feel free to call your boys or anything. I just…” She trailed off.
Maybe she didn’t want to be alone. Completely understandable. Although Lily was one of the strongest people he knew, it was also perfectly reasonable that she wouldn’t want to be alone while she was in labor.
He nodded, sitting back on the couch, stretching his leg up beside him, updating Finn about the situation. As he finished answering Finn’s frantic text back, asking if everyone was okay, Leo tuned back into Lily’s conversation as her voice rose in clear frustration.
“I’m not asking you to come here, I was just updating you.” Lily sounded frustrated. “I am aware that Dudley’s fifth birthday is this weekend. I sent a card…Yes a card, mom. I’ve never even met him…okay…yeah…yeah.”
Leo flinched as Lily groaned through another contraction.
“You okay, Lily, need anything?” She shook her head at him, hand clenched on the railing on the bed. As it subsided, she looked over at Leo.
“Actually, could you text James and make sure he’s not freaking out?” Leo nodded, turning to James’s contact and sending a quick message.
Just checking in. Lily wanted to make sure you weren’t freaking out too bad.
Lily let out a sigh at something her mom said.
“No, he’s not here, but he’s on his way. It is two weeks early. He was taking Harry and Evie to all-stars…Yes, mom, she’s been going by Evie for about a year and a half now. Like her initials?...Yeah, well you don’t like much, do you?”
Leo glanced back up from where James had texted back saying he was okay, telling Leo all about the nice old couple he was sitting next to who were telling him about the birth of their own kids. Then he asked if Lily was fine.
Yeah, all good. She’s currently on the phone with her mom, so that’s why she wouldn’t be texting you back if you’re trying to text her. Having contractions, but seems okay.
The reply was quick.
Did her mom call her?
No, Lily called.
Oh man. Let her know I’m coming as fast as I can.
“Please leave James out of it, mom…I don’t really need your approval. We've been married for almost five years…yeah, alright, put dad on.” Lily’s face relaxed and her shoulders dropped slightly as Leo heard the faint sound of a man’s voice. “Yeah, dad, I’m okay…he’s flying here right now, but Remus and Leo are with me. Yeah, Leo Knut.” She smiled, covered the receiver of her phone and told him, “My dad says hi. Big fan.”
Leo felt himself blush. Then he quickly relayed what James had texted him.
Lily nodded.
“Well, I just wanted to let you know, maybe hear your voices a bit…a little nervous…thanks, dad…yeah, I promise I will…no, it’ll be busy these next few weeks, come when you can…that’s fine…okay, love you…yeah, dad…thanks, love you, too.” Then she hung up with a sigh. “Sorry you had to hear all that. Just family drama, you know.”
Leo nodded, although he didn’t know. He could never imagine calling his parents from the hospital and having them treat him like that.
Thinking of something to say to relieve the tension, he asked, “who’s Dudley?”
“Oh, my sister’s kid. About Harry’s age. Dudley Dursley.” Leo flinched, feeling bad for the kid. “Never met him before, but I’ve heard stories.” Lily shuddered, smirking and Leo had to laugh.
“Are your parents coming then?” He couldn’t tell exactly from the half-overheard conversation.
Lily stopped, groaning once more and gripping the side of the bed. After a minute she looked up and answered with a shake of her head. “Not right away. It’ll be a bit hectic at home, anyway for the first few weeks. I think James’s parents’ll probably be around to help. Oh, I should probably let them know that I’m in labor.” She reached for her phone once again. “Unless James already has. I bet he has, he tells them everything. Could you maybe call Logan and check in on how Harry and Evie are doing?”
“Sure!”
A minute later, they were on video call with Logan, Sirius, and the kids, and Leo had handed his phone over to Lily.
“Mama!” Evie said, happily from where she sat on Logan’s hip.
“Hi, baby. Are you guys doing alright?”
“Yes, Mama,” Harry’s voice drifted over and Logan panned the camera over to him. He was on Sirius’s shoulders, smiling.
“New baby coming, mama?” Logan panned the camera back over to Evie and Lily smiled.
“Yeah, honey. The new baby will be here by the time you get back. I was just checking in to make sure everyone was good.”
“We’re good here,” Sirius said. When the camera panned to him once more, Leo could see that he was holding his own phone to his shoulder, as if on another call. “T and Noelle are taking these two for the game and then we’ll have ‘em in the hotel with us. Then we’ll fly back tomorrow! I’ve also been texting with James and he seems to be as calm as a stressed James Potter can be. Don’t worry, I’ve watched these two monsters before!” Harry giggled in the background.
“Yeah, we’ve got this, Lily!” Logan said. “It’ll be nice to spend the day with them, since I don’t get to babysit anymore.” Lily gave an exasperated sigh.
“Yeah, not after the great sugar crash. Speaking of, not too much sugar. Got it, Sirius?”
“Oui, of course, Lils.”
“And no teaching my children French, I already have too many French speakers in my life!”
“D’accord mama!” Harry piped up.
Lily laughed and then groaned, shoving the phone back in Leo’s hand as she doubled over with another contraction.
“You good, Lils?” Sirius’s face was now filling the screen.
“She’s okay. Contractions are getting more frequent.” Leo watched her for a moment, then said, “I’m probably going to go get Loops.”
“Okay, keep us updated.” The phone was handed back to Logan, who grinned and made a kissing sound.
“Love you, see you soon.”
“Love you.”
When he hung up and he moved to the door, Lily began groaning once more.
“I’m gonna grab a nurse, too,” Lily nodded in acknowledgement. Leo quickly found Remus, who was just in the hallway outside, on his own phone call, and they went searching for one of the nurses that had been coming in semi-frequently to check on Lily.
“I know, Sirius, but you know how it is when I can’t reach you and…” Remus paused, listening to Sirius on the other side of the call. His voice lowered into a quieter tone and Leo tried his best not to listen, but he was right next to him. Remus’s tone was guilty. “I wasn’t calm like I wanted to be. I panicked, and I’m not usually like that and it scared me. I can usually keep it together. I’m just out of practice with the PT stuff I guess.”
Finally finding a nurse he recognized, Leo asked if she could check on Lily, trying his best to explain that the labor had seemed to progress. He wished he knew more about medical stuff.
“I’ve got to go. Hopefully James gets here soon. But I’ll keep you updated, just might be unable to answer right away. Also text Leo if you need me urgently…Okay…Good luck tonight. Show Logan who’s boss.” Remus gave Leo an apologetic look and a shrug as they continued around the corner and into Lily’s room, before hanging up with a Love you, too.
Everything seemed to progress rather quickly from there. Lily moved from her crouched over sitting position to up straight, getting a huge needle to the back (which Leo had to look away from so he didn’t get goosebumps), and then laying down. Contractions grew more frequent. Lily was still in pain, Leo and Remus’s hands were feeling weaker by the minute.
As she got ready to push, Lily called out, “I’m not ready. My husband’s not here, I can’t do it!”
Remus had quickly moved close to her ear, relaying the message he had just received from James that he was ten minutes away from the hospital. Leo listened to the nurse coaching Lily on breathing exercises, much like the breathing exercises he used to help with his anxiety, before she moved further down the bed to prepare for the birth.
Well, at least he could be useful in this way. His boys always told him he was calm. They were quite proud of how brave he was. He could help.
“Lily, as much as I know you don’t want to hear me talk right now, I want you to know that everything’s going to be okay. James is on his way.”
“Why did he go to all-stars? Why did I tell him to go? He hesitated and I told him there was no way that it’s gonna be early.” Remus rubbed Lily’s shoulder, now on the phone with what sounded like Pascal, from the half of a conversation he heard.
“All that matters right now is that you’re breathing and doing what the nurses say. James is almost here,” Leo tried to reason, knowing that her current train of thought was only going to cause her more anxiety.
“With Evie it was so easy. In and out of the hospital. She’s the easiest one!” Lily smiled at this thought.
“Maybe this one’s gonna be as crazy as this day has been!” Leo said, squeezing her hand in his.
“Yeah, and here I was thinking that James’s ADHD energy just skipped a generation, but maybe not with this one!” Remus piped up.
“Harry’s a lot like him,” Lily said, voice strained, but a smile on her face. “He can be so oblivious at times, just like his father! But, I do hope this one at least looks like me. No more waiting nine months and popping out an exact replica of James again.”
Leo grinned, glad that Lily was finding something humorous. Then she gasped again, groaning.
“Alright, Mrs. Potter, you’re going to need to start pushing.”
“Not yet!” Lily called out, voice rising once more in panic. “I…can’t.”
“I’m going to need you to breathe, Lily,” the doctor said.
Lily was now visibly shaking, tears alight in her eyes.
“Lily, breathe with me,” Leo said. Then he started taking exaggerated breaths, just like his boys sometimes did when his anxiety overtook his brain. Just like the nurses had been trying to get her to do. He set a hand on her shoulder and kept hold of her hand with the other, squeezing and then letting go along with his inhales and exhales. Lily opened her eyes and watched as Leo breathed. She took a deep breath. And suddenly, somehow, it was working. They stayed like this and each time she got nervous and each time the doctor told her to push, he coached her through breaths.
“Push, now.” And she did, with a scream.
Then the door banged open and a flurry of black hair ran in. “Lily!”
“James!” Lily’s whole body relaxed as he took Remus’s spot at her side, kissing her forehead. “Thank God.”
“Push again,” the doctor said after a minute.
Lily groaned and James comforted her, whispering words and kissing her forehead. She was clearly doing better now, determined to get this baby out now that James was here.
“Nice, Lils,” James said.
And all of a sudden, Leo felt like he was intruding. He was just moving to step away when Lily grabbed his hand tighter.
“You. Stay.”
“What?” Leo asked. Clearly this was a private moment, and he didn’t necessarily feel needed.
“Coach me in breathing again.”
“Um, okay?” Leo looked over to James, eyebrow raised. He just nodded.
“Yeah, stay please, Knut. Clearly you’re better at it than me.”
“A thousand times better,” Lily added, voice straining once more.
“Ouch, but fair.”
“Stay, if you’re okay with it,” Lily said.
“Yeah, sure. Whatever you want.” Watching this process had given Leo a whole new respect for mothers. And, a short while later, an unfortunate understanding of how a completely fresh newborn looks.
“It’s a girl!” The doctor called happily as she handed the baby over to lay on Lily’s chest.
She and James were both crying, cooing at the baby, staring at each other.
Leo stared at the slightly purple, wrinkly, screeching newborn and had to look away.
He wouldn’t call himself squeamish, but maybe this experience was a little much. He straightened, feeling the deep strain in his injury, and felt Remus grab his arm from behind him, keeping him steady and leading him to the couch.
“Okay, Knutty? Gonna pass out?” Leo shook his head, allowing Remus to lead him to sit on the couch.
“Is that how newborns are supposed to look?” Leo asked in a quiet voice, not wanting to bother the ecstatic family. Remus just let out a huff of a laugh.
“As far as I know, yes. The doctor said she’s healthy. Are you good? You still look a little like you’re going to pass out.”
Leo took inventory of himself. Although he did feel a little light-headed and his heart beat fast in his chest, he shook his head.
“I think I’m good. Um, should we maybe get out of here? I feel like we’re violating privacy.”
“I mean, you just witnessed her give birth, man. But yeah. I’ve got to call Sirius before he has to get ready for his game. And your boys probably want to hear from you.” Leo nodded. That sounded like a good idea.
Remus helped him up, and Leo found that he was feeling more steady on his feet. They snuck out, unnoticed by the happy family, and moved to the seats in the waiting room to call their respective boys.

It took Leo and Logan twenty minutes in the boulangerie to start talking in low voices in French. If it had been a casual conversation in French, Finn would just sit back and eat his madeleines (which he had reported didn’t taste nearly as good as Leo’s homemade madeleines did, to which he got the blushing reply of “you’re just used to American sugar, baby”). The French speaking didn’t bother him. They were in Paris, after all. He couldn’t really complain about it when French was all around them.
And he counted himself lucky that both his boys knew French. It had already saved him from being swept away by a group of laughing college students who simply wanted a picture with him.
But now Logan sat, anger painted on his face, which didn’t look nearly as intimidating when he had chocolate on his chin. Finn leaned in, kissing Logan’s chin and licking the chocolate off in the process. Leo gave him a small grimace, and Finn leaned over to pepper his cheek with a kiss, although he kept his tongue in his mouth for that one. Leo smiled at him and calmly waved Logan off. But Finn was still worried. Because Logan still had on his“must protect my boys” face.
“What’s wrong, Lo? What happened?” When Logan didn’t answer, instead scooting closer to Finn, taking his hand, and glaring at the cashier, Finn looked nervously at Leo.
“Lo’s angry because they’ve insulted my French.”
“Called it an American trying too hard.” Logan nearly snarled.
“And I said it’s fine, Lo. They’ve probably not heard the Louisiana French accent before. You thought it was strange the first time you heard it!”
“Your accent’s adorable, Peanut,” Finn argued. “And sexy.”
“Très mignon,” Logan added. "Et très sexy."
“But different from the norm,” Leo reasoned.
“That’s no excuse…” Logan said, moving to get up. Finn snaked his arm around him, pulling him into his side instead.
“Oh, my poor Canadian and baby Southerner. Too used to the nice people around them. I’ve heard some French people can rival even New Yorkers in their snark! Hey, I’m walkin’ ‘ere!” Finn said in a much harsher accent than he actually had. It had the intended effect, making Leo laugh and the crease between Logan’s brows ease.
“Rouge, in my short time living in New York,” Leo tensed just a bit, but they both noticed, Logan immediately running a hand down his back and landing a kiss on his cheek, “I can confidently say I never heard any New Yorker say that.”
“Well now you have!” Finn smiled at them. Then moved to get up. “Still planning on getting that chocolate croissant to go?” Logan nodded, giving him a questioning look.
“Oui, I was going to get un pain au chocolat. But not after they’ve treated Le like that.”
Leo looked ready to protest the statement once again, but Finn didn’t give him the chance.
“Let me give it a shot, huh?” And Finn was up out of his seat before they could stop him.
“What?”
“Rouge, wait!”
But Finn was already at the counter.
“Uno pan of chocolate, see voos play,” he said, grinning.
The man in front of the register’s mouth dropped open. The younger woman behind the counter muttered something like “Americain.” He grinned over at his boys, who now had their own mouths wide open in shock. Logan even looked a little embarrassed.
“Un pain au chocolat, monsieur?”
“Um, yon, I mean oh-we! That’s what I want, please, miz-your.”
When they handed him the food, he let out a “mercy boo coo!”
Then he felt a hand grab his and pull him straight out the door.
In the warm air of Paris, he grinned over at Logan, who was now glaring at him.
“Rouge, you’re going to start the next revolution.”
He laughed as he placed the pain au chocolat in Logan’s other hand, and took Leo’s hand, too. He brought both hands to his mouth for a kiss.
“Jay tem Lolo! Jay tem butter baby!”
They both winced.
“I can’t believe you did that!” Leo said, grinning at him.
“No one insults my nutter butter sunshine baby!”
They continued walking, protective tension still in Logan’s shoulders.
“Look loves, we’re not here to impress the French with our knowledge of the French language! Although I bet either of you know more than anyone here,” both boys looked about to protest, but Finn continued. “We’re here to kiss under the Eiffel Tower! Alletz go!”
And that’s just what they did.

I know that not everyone in France is rude, I promise!
I absolutely love reading/writing about crazyboy Finn. I love when he's overly energetic and somewhat unhinged for his boys! He loves them so much and protects in his own way, and just brings so much joy!
And finally, my final bingo card for O'Knutzy Week 2026! I really had so much fun this week!
Happy O’Knutzy Week 2026 Day 7 (we made it!!!!) As always, thank you to @lumosinlove for these lovely, wonderful, fantastic boys! And thank you to @oknutzy-week-2026 for making all of this possible!
On Ice: Emergency
For context: This takes place after Finn and Leo have retired. Finn is a professor and Leo is a stay-at-home dad for their kids. Logan still plays hockey with the Lions!
TW: Injuries, Hospital
By necessity of the plot, this story is set in the winter time. But, who doesn’t long for a crisp winter day when it’s 100 degrees outside?
Thanks for reading and let me know what you think! Enjoy!

Leo got the call on a regular Tuesday in February, just as he’s trying to convince their two-year-old to eat his breakfast.
“Non, non, non, non, je veux pas, Daddy!” The boy pushed the plate away, arms crossing and his lip pouting out.
For as sweet as Oliver could be, his meltdowns were quite intense. Leo counted himself lucky that the boy hadn’t started sobbing yet.
Putting on his best calm voice, he tried to reason with him.
“I know, bud. But it’s all we have. We didn’t have a chance to go shopping this weekend to get the cherry yogurt.”
But, as he should have already known, he couldn’t convince the two-year-old.
“Just eat what you have so we can go to the park, Oggie!” Margo said, clearly frustrated that breakfast was taking so long.
The blond boy considered this, but then shook his head.
“Don’ like booberries.”
“How many bites, Daddy?” Margo asked, ready to negotiate with the toddler.
“How about two bites of vanilla yogurt and two slices of banana?”
“You can do that, Oggie! I bet I can finish before you can!” Margo encouraged. For a five-year-old, she was turning out to be a great cheer-leader. And she knew how to make everything into a game to entice her little brother. He could already see some competitiveness brewing in both kids. Leo smiled fondly as Oliver started picking at his food, shoving a slice of banana in his mouth.
“There you go, bud.”
Then his phone rang from where he left it on the side of the stove.
“Keep going,” he stepped away to take the call, not checking the caller ID before answering.
“Hello, is this Leo Knut?” A woman’s voice asked.
“Yes, ma’am.”
“I’m calling from the Gryffindor public hospital. You’re listed as Finn O’Hara’s emergency contact. He was brought in a few minutes ago…” And Leo barely heard anything else before he was running.
------
All flavors of yogurt forgotten, he had run back to the table, trying to keep a calm voice, telling the kids they had to leave, phone ringing on his ear as he hurried to get their boots and coats on.
“Leo? Hello?”
“Yes, hi Pascal. I…” He lowered his voice, stepping slightly away as Margo helped Oliver with his coat, the boy looking nervously around him. “Finn’s been taken to the hospital. Is it alright if I drop the kids off at yours?”
“Of course.” Pascal’s voice had gotten serious, and he called out to someone on his end. Leo helped zip up Oliver and Margo’s coat before grabbing the keys and stepping out the door, Oliver’s hand in his. “Celeste is going to watch them. I’ll come with you. Do you know what happened?”
“No, all I know is that he’s unconscious and they're checking for a concussion because of his history.”
“But what about breakfast, Daddy?” Margo asked, trying her best to buckle herself into her car seat.
“I’m sure Celeste has something for you to eat there.”
There was a humming noise of affirmation on the other side of the phone.
He finished buckling Oliver in one-handed, then moved to check on Margo, who had buckled herself in correctly. He hopped into the front seat and was off, phone now connecting to the bluetooth.
“Alright, it’s going to be okay, we just need to…”
“Hey, Pascal,” Leo interrupted. “Just letting you know I switched to the speaker in the car.”
“Pépé Pascal!” Margo called from the back.
“Bonjour, mon chou, et Olivier, mon autre chou. Okay, I’ll talk once you get here, Leo.”
“Thanks, Dumo.”
About twenty minutes later, they were on the road once more, two kids dropped off, one very happy two-year-old having been presented with cherry yogurt, and Pascal now in the driver’s seat.
“Why don’t you give Logan a call. You might be able to catch him before he gets out on the ice.”
Leo nodded, glad Pascal was walking him through this as his brain felt frantic and all over the place in panic.
Pressing on Logan’s contact, he hoped that the hospital hadn’t reached him first, knowing the news might come slightly better from Leo than straight from the hospital.
Logan picked up before the second ring.
“What’s happening, mon soleil? I got a message from the hospital. I haven’t listened to it yet, but…”
“I know, it’s…” but Logan interrupted him with a completely panicked tone.
“Margo? Vivi? Mon dieu, oh God.”
“No, Lo, they’re okay. They’re fine. It’s not either of them.”
Logan’s voice now hitched with panic. “Are you okay?”
“Yeah, Lo, look, it’s…”
“Rouge.”
“Yeah. Something happened at work. They said he was stable, but unconscious and getting checked out for a concussion.”
He heard the breath being sucked in from the other side and a murmured curse. Then, “I’m on my way.”
“Don’t drive.”
“Non, I’ll get Alex to take me.”
“Okay.” Leo counted himself lucky that Alex was now on the Lions, along with Logan. He couldn’t imagine having to call Logan from New York with this news.
They were silent for a minute as Leo listened to Logan rushing around on the other side of the phone, panicked voice calling out to Alex. Then he was back, and Leo felt his heart slow a little.
“Are you there? At the hospital?”
“Almost. Pascal’s driving me there right now. Dropped the kids off with Celeste.”
Logan’s voice was muffled once more as he said something to someone on the other side, presumably Alex or Arthur.
“Are you okay, Le?” Logan sounded like he was in the echoes of the locker room, probably pulling off his skates and grabbing his bag.
“I already told you, I’m not the one…”
“Non, Le. I know you’re not hurt, but are you alright?”
Leo paused at that.
One would think that after having seen someone hurt so many times, feeling that heart-wrenching, breath-catching panic, that it would get easier to see. To feel. To experience.
But it wasn’t.
And this was somehow worse.
In hockey, there was always a chance that players would get hurt. It came with the territory of the game. It was a risk they all chose to take each time they stepped out on the ice.
But Finn had retired. He was supposed to stop getting hurt. Was supposed to be safe.
“Um, not really,” Leo heard himself say. Then shook the thoughts away. “Um… I mean… I’ll…I’ll be okay once I see that he’s okay.”
“Oui. Oui, je sais, Le. I understand. Hold in there, I’m coming. Stay on the phone, d’accord? Stay on the phone until I’m there with you. Until you see that he’s okay, ouias? Stay on for me?”
“Yes, okay. I’m staying.”
“Good, Le. That’s good.”
-----
Finn turned out to be completely okay, other than a sprained wrist and no concussion, but a nasty bump on the back of his head that had been bandaged.
“I told them I don’t remember hitting my head. But I must have, huh?” He asked as Logan and Alex rushed in the room.
“Rouge,” Logan gasped, collapsing at his side, and Alex looked on from closer to the doorway.
“I like your shirt. Why are you wearing all that hockey stuff, huh?” He glanced at Alex. “Hey, aren’t you a Ranger?”
When Leo had entered, Finn had been confused as to why he was there, telling him he should be at hockey practice, something that Leo hadn’t participated in in five years. Leo had had to check with the nurse to confirm that the confusion wasn’t from a concussion, but was rather from the pain meds he had been given for his wrist.
Logan glanced at Leo in confusion, but he shook his head, reaching over from his spot on the bed next to Finn to squeeze Logan’s shoulder.
“Pain meds.” Logan nodded in understanding, but didn’t look all too settled.
“Rouge, are you okay? What happened?” Logan said, kissing Finn’s cheek. Leo had been debriefed by the nurse when he got there, hanging up the phone only when he realized the connection wasn’t working on one of their ends. But by that point, Logan had been nearly there.
“Hey, you missed my lips, LoLo!” Finn said, turning his head and jutting out his jaw. Logan frowned, still looking extremely nervous. He settled a soft kiss on Finn’s lips, then asked again. “Tell me what happened.”
“Fell.” Logan looked to Leo and Pascal, who was sitting at the couch in the corner of the room.
“The nurse said that he slipped and fell on campus, knocked his head on some ice, and he was unresponsive. They said the unconsciousness was because of his multiple past concussions.” Leo said, trying to remember all that the nurse had told him. “And he has a sprained wrist.” Logan glanced down at the wrapped up appendage, giving it a soft kiss and then moving back to look at Finn.
“Can’t take you anywhere, huh?”
“I slipped!” Finn said, suddenly. “On ice!” Then he began laughing, starting off softly, and then moving to be huge rolls of laughter, mixed with some words. “ On ice!” “Used to…hockey!” “I slipped!”
“Is he…good?” Leo asked, glancing at Alex, who looked less freaked out than the rest of them.
“He’s done this before. His first concussion. Found it hilarious that he knocked into the goalpost.” Leo winced and saw a matching look on Logan’s face. “Might just be the shock and painkillers mixed together. Or my baby brother’s officially lost it.” He stepped closer, now leaning over Finn. “Hey, Fish. What’s so funny?”
Only then did Finn stop laughing and glanced up, staring at them, beaming.
“I played hockey for years and years and years, and I was a professional athlete and now I’m still slipping all over the ice as a professor! Ice has bested me once again!” He laughed again. “Really miss my pads. And my helmet.” He reached back to feel the bump on his head, but Logan stopped him, gently grabbing his injured wrist.
“Mmm-hmm.” Leo said, not completely convinced that Finn was okay.
“Please be more careful, mon poisson,” Logan said, kissing Finn’s cheek once more.
“Yes, please, Harz,” Leo said, returning a kiss on the other side.
“Anything for you, mine LoLo and mine sole-eel.”
“And on that note of français abominable…I’m going to get you some ice water, Finn. Anyone need anything else?” Pascal asked, stepping toward the door
This set Finn off once more, the red head dissolving into giggles muttering “ha, ice water.”
“It is not that funny, Rouge.”
Leo just snuggled into Finn’s side, glad that his boy was okay.

Happy O’Knutzy Week 2026 Day 6 (again)! As always, thank you to @lumosinlove for writing these stories and triggering my current hyperfixation! And thank you to @oknutzy-week-2026 for making all of this possible!
A Cluster of Kittens: Stray Pets
For context: This takes place after Finn has retired (he’s a teacher).
Thanks for reading and let me know what you think! Enjoy!
--------------------------
Leo felt Finn take his hand, pull it to his mouth, soft lips brushing over it.
“You look so lovely in the dusk, sunshine.” Leo smiled and Finn turned to his other side, swinging his hands in the process. “And you, Lo. Made for the sunset.”
“Flirty tonight, rouge,” Logan said, bumping Finn, causing him to bump into Leo.
They were walking home for once. It was a nice night, and it was a short walk from the bar back to their apartment.
“When is he not?” Leo asked, earning a kiss to the neck.
The conversation turned to hockey soon after, with Logan and Finn debating how the game could have gone even better. Even though Finn had retired the year before, he came to every home game and some away, when his teaching breaks allowed.
“No, Lo. I don’t think that it was possible to pass then…” And Leo sighed.
“No more, please!” They both looked at him with knowing looks, used to this conversation by now. “I just want a quiet night. No more hockey talk. Please.”
Finn gave him a mischievous look, eyes glinting in the streetlight.
“Oh, you want a quiet night, huh?”
“Well, it doesn’t have to be that…” But a sound cut him off. At first, he didn’t know what he was hearing. Some sort of cry. Coming from the alley.
He stopped abruptly.
Was that a baby crying?
“Peanut?”
“Buerre?”
But Leo shushed them as he crept closer to the alley, and he heard the rustle of his boys following close behind.
“Um, mon cœur, I don’t think it’s the safest…”
“Do you hear that, Lo?” He paused once again. The crying sound was now coming from his left. It sounded too faint and high pitched to be a baby. And now the sound was joined by multiple other cries.
Leo fumbled in his pocket, but Finn was one step ahead, holding out his phone flashlight.
“Oh.”
In front of them sat a thin-looking adult cat. And she wasn’t alone. Six kittens surrounded her, all crawling over each other and mewling up at them.
“Oh, hello.” Leo leaned down, and one of the cats, a light tan one, crawled immediately to the hand he had put out. He immediately picked it up, cradling it to his stomach. It snuggled up to him, Leo assumed he was probably warm, as it started purring.
And now he found himself sniffling. Because they all looked so small. And they had nowhere to go. And the mama cat was all alone. And it was just gonna get colder. And…
“Oh, peanut, it’s alright.” Finn said, leaning next to him. Logan followed.
He felt arms come around him and he leaned into Logan’s grip.
“W…we can’t just leave them here. Th…they need help.”
“Of course we’re not going to just leave them!” Finn said, as if the idea were ridiculous. And it was. None of them would just leave them here. “We’ll take them to a shelter.”
Leo felt himself sniffing again. All the shelters would be closed for the night. And then they’d be separated from their family.
“C’est bon, soleil. We’re gonna take care of them now.”
Logan stood up, and he and Finn glanced around, their eyes settling on a box near the recycling.
“Here,” Finn said, setting the box down. “We’ll put them in this. Get them home and warm, and in the morning, we can take ‘em to the shelter.”
Leo agreed, and not five minutes later, they were walking through the street, now with six cats in a box that Finn had insisted he would carry (“you two already worked hard tonight. My turn.”)
“Not sure Rory’s gonna love to have cats around. It’s probably best if we keep ‘em somewhere contained for the time being,” Leo said, trying to sort out the logistics. He still had one of the cats in his arms. The little tan one that had curled there and not wanted to leave.
“Of course, I can go in first and distract him while you two set them up somewhere,” Finn said.
When they got home, Finn did just that, keeping their over-excited dog out of the front hall as Leo and Logan went straight through to the guest bedroom.
The kittens mewled, unsure of where they were or what was going on. Leo slowly set the fast asleep tan kitten in with the rest, quickly running downstairs for a paper bowl for water and rustling through their closet, finding a can of tuna that would do. Back in the room, Logan was sitting by the box, having set a few old towels around in case they wanted to use them.
Unsure about how she’d like it, Leo tentatively let the mama cat smell him before reaching for her, taking her out of the box. She was luckily obliging, especially after he opened the can of tuna, letting him set her down on an old towel and give her the water and food. The kittens mewled some more, but were too little to climb out of the box.
“You’re okay, babies. Your mama’ll be right back,” Leo said, reaching into the box to pet at their little heads. The tan one came up, sniffing his hand, and nuzzled into it, purring. The two black ones sat next to each other in one corner, clearly frightened, while the black tuxedo, gray tuxedo, and fluffy orange ones all walked around, still mewling. Logan took his phone out, snapping a few pictures of them.
“What are we going to do with you guys?” He asked no one in particular.
-----
Twenty minutes later, after the mama had finished eating and the kittens had settled in next to her, now on an old blanket set inside the box, the boys decided to head to bed.
“We’ll take ‘em to the vet tomorrow to make sure they're all healthy. Then we’ll decide what to do from there.”
They would decide if they were going to take them to a shelter or not. Leo still didn’t like the idea of the cats being separated. But, he knew realistically that no one was going to take in seven cats.
“Hey, Le, baby. No need to look so worried, we’ve got this,” Finn said, kissing the side of his head, his boys now leading him to bed.
An hour later, after his boys had gone to sleep, he was still awake/ Which wasn’t unusual. But he could swear he heard mewling. But maybe it was all in his head. He turned over, closing his eyes to try to drift off.
But ten minutes later, he sighed, not wanting to wake his boys with his tossing and turning. He would just get up, get water, maybe check on the cats, and then try to sleep once more.
But the sight of the cats, all tired and sleeping peacefully, except one, made his heart melt. It was the tan one that had nuzzled his hand. It was wandering around, clearly wanting to explore the small box. Maybe it had insomnia, too. At that thought, Leo quickly plucked it up in his hands, holding it to his chest.
“Can’t sleep, little one?” He asked in a hushed whisper, sitting down, back against the side of the guest bed. “Me neither. It’s okay, we can stay awake together.” The cat just sat on his shoulder, nuzzling into his neck, purring. Leo closed his eyes, relaxed by the soft purr coming from the kitten.
-----
“Baby baby, wake on up!” Finn’s voice drifted into his ear and Leo opened his eyes, moving, and groaning as his back creaked.
“Oh yeah, soleil, your back’s gonna hurt,” Logan said, wincing with him as he rubbed circles on it.
“Did I…” Leo yawned. “Oh. I fell asleep.”
“Ouais.”
Logan smiled at them as they pulled him to his feet. Then he panicked.
“The kitten!” What if it fell when he had gotten up. Where had it gone?”
But Finn pointed behind him at the guest bed where the tiny kitten was curled up. It must have climbed his body and gone on the bed. Thank goodness it hadn’t fallen down.
Leo gently took the cat, setting it back in with its siblings, all now mewling at their mama, hungry and wanting milk.
“Sorry we had to get you up so early on a day off, soleil. But, it’s vet time. Reg said if we come in before seven, he can have a look at them.” The advantages of having a friend who was training to be a vet.
“Alright.”
A twenty minute drive later, they were being ushered into a room by Regulus, who looked at the cats, face softening slightly. Leo, who had learned much about him since they had become friends a few years ago, knew that he had a soft spot for animals, especially baby animals.
“Wow, a whole cluster!” Reg said, taking each cat out one at a time, examining them. The kittens wriggled and squirmed, the mama cat perfectly calm. “Well, it seems like you’re lucky. All the little ones are healthy, and mama cat is, too. Makes me think that the previous owners might have dumped them, and quite recently.”
Leo stared in horror at the implication that anyone would just dump tiny kittens that they didn’t want.
“Do you know yet what you’re going to do with them? I know a good shelter.” But Finn shook his head.
“No, we’re going to reach out to the team, see if anyone’ll take ‘em first.” They had discussed on the way here, deciding that was the best course of action. “Until then, we’ll keep them with us. Can they be adopted at this age?”
“Theoretically, yes. I’d put their age at about eight weeks old. They should be transitioning to solid food. But once you’ve weaned them, they can be separated from the mother.”
Then Regulus told them the process of encouraging weaning before sending them on their way, requesting that they text if they need any help.
-------
For the next week, they worked on weaning the kittens, and worked on getting their families and friends to adopt them. Logan had insisted that they not mentioned anything about the cats to Pascal, and had requested the team not to let Pascal catch wind of it, clearly planning something. They received many varied responses.
In the week they had had the cats, Finn and Logan had already begun calling the two black cats Sirius Jr. and Regulus Jr., trying to get Sirius to take in the stray pets. Sirius seemed to be interested, but Remus had reminded them that “It’s not a good time to ask. We can’t take one right now. Not with the baby on the way.” Which was completely understandable. He told them he’d ask the rest of the Lupin family, though. They had an older cat, and he told them there was a high probability that they’d say yes.
The Potter family had a similar explanation of not needing anymore chaos in the house at the moment. With three young kids, they completely understood.
Coach Weasley, who clearly didn’t ascribe to the same sentiment after seven kids of his own, told them that he would be interested in taking one of them. After all, as he had told them, “what’s one more animal in this house?” His two youngest, Ron and Ginny, really wanted a kitten, and he told them he was also hoping to teach his twins some responsibility.
Logan, after a day spent with Celeste and Katie, told them not to offer the orange one to anyone else, as he had plans for it.
Kuny had agreed to take the mama cat, saying she would go nicely with the other calm cat he had at home.
And by then, they had run out of people on the team to ask. With three of the seven cats accounted for, they turned to their families. Finn told them that he couldn’t ask Alex and family, because Alex was allergic, which had started a conversation about the fact that Finn had also begun developing allergy symptoms to the cats. Itchy red eyes, a stuffy nose, lots of sneezing. Logan had insisted that Finn stop touching the kittens, but Finn had refused, stating that it “wasn’t that bad,” and “they’re too cute to resist!”
“Well, we’ve got four of the cats accounted for,” Logan said after another sneezing fit from Finn.
“Four?” Leo asked, petting the tan cat that was once again in his lap, sure that he had counted correctly. He plucked the kitten up, setting her against his neck, where she nuzzled in, purring. “Only three. Kuny, Arthur, secret Dumais cat.”
Leo finally looked up to see his boys both smiling at him.
“What if we kept one?” Finn said.
“What?” Leo was taken aback. Especially coming from Finn, who wiped at his nose. “But you’re allergic!”
Finn waved him away.
“That one’s so attached to you. It’s only fair that she gets to stay,” Logan said. “Finn and I have discussed it. You agreed to get a dog with us. We want to get a cat for you.”
It had been a debate when they first decided to get a pet. They had eventually decided on a dog, Finn having just retired and needed a new outlet. Rory was a rescue dog, and had been a good amount of work for them. But it had been the right time to get a dog with Finn’s more flexible schedule, and Leo had been happy about the decision. But he had also wanted a cat, so his boys had promised him that, eventually, they’d also get a cat, once things settled.
Leo’s eyes filled with tears and he moved to kiss his boys, but the little cat got unsettled by his movement, so he sat back, petting her once more. At the silence coming from his boys, he looked up.
“Being a dad looks really good on you,” Finn said, a mushy look in his eyes. “Love you in dad-mode.”
“They’re cats, Fish,” Leo reminded, rolling his eyes and feeling himself blush.
“Still.”
“Best cat dad, then,” Logan piped up. “Seeing you being so…parental, buerre, it does things to me.”
“Not you, too. I’ve told you before that we’re not ready for kids.”
“Oui, je sais. But we can still enjoy you being a cat dad, non?”
“You’re really okay with keeping her?” He looked into both their eyes, making sure they were sure before he let himself get excited.
“Of course!” Logan said, coming over to give his cheek a kiss.
“She was ours the moment she climbed into your arms and refused to leave, Le,” Finn said, coming up to his other side.
Leo smiled, tears in his eyes once again.
“Thank you, thank you, thank you!” He peppered kisses on their cheeks and his boys chuckled.
“We’ll love her, too. Even if you’re clearly her favorite.” Finn said, then turned to sneeze.
“And I’ve got a name suggestion, but I can’t take credit for it. You’ll have to thank Katie for this one.”
----------
Eventually, discussions moved to what they wanted to do with the three remaining cats. Neither of Leo’s, Logan’s, or Finn’s family felt able to take in a cat at that time.
“I…know I said we don’t want to split them up. I want them to be with family, but…” Leo reasoned with himself. He knew realistically that the cats weren’t going to be together anymore, but having them adopted by people that he thought of as family helped.
“Let’s not give up quite yet. Remus still has to talk to his mom. And I’ve got one more person we can ask,” Finn said. “But maybe you should text him, because after all these years, I think he still likes you the best,” he told Leo.
Two minutes later, he sent a text.
Leo
Hey, we have three more cats to be adopted
are you interested in taking in “Sirius Jr.” and
or “Regulus Jr.”?
He received a reply a few minutes later.
Regulus
I’ll consider it if you convince your boys to
stop calling them that right now.
Leo laughed, relaying the information to said boys.
------
It was a week later, the week they were finally sending the kittens to live with their new families, when Logan finally let them in on the plan with the Dumais cat.
“So Celeste and I are surprising him for his birthday with an orange kitten that looks like one he had from his childhood. He still keeps a picture of him in his wallet.”
At the party, they got to watch Logan and the Dumais kids, who had somehow successfully kept it a secret, present the cat to their dad, whose eyes had widened, filling with rare tears. An instant later, he was up and hugging Logan to him.
“A good surprise, mon fils.”
------
Two days later, the Lupins had come to pick up their kitten, the little black tuxedo.
A day later, Kuny and Arthur got theirs, followed by Regulus, who picked up the cats formerly known as Sirius Jr. and Regulus Jr.
Which just left them with their new kitten, a perfect end to their little kitten adventure.

I just had to add kitten pictures at the end! These were all just pulled off the internet, if you were wondering where they were from (all credit to...Google I guess). I love cats so much, hence my profile picture! I hope you enjoyed!
The idea of Regulus being a vet is completely based off of rxgulus's work over on ao3! Go check them out!
Happy O’Knutzy Week 2026 Day 6! As always, thank you to @lumosinlove for the amazing stories that totally ruined my sleep schedule when I first discovered them (and I loved every second of it)! And thank you to @oknutzy-week-2026 for making all of this possible!

----------------------
“Sunscreen, lifejacket, yes you need to wear a lifejacket even though I know you can swim, and then make sure Papa has the diaper bag and remind Dad to grab the picnic lunch,” Leo said as Margo asked once again if they could “please go now.”
Her face, which had freckled tenfold since the summer began, turned into a look of concentration as she repeated the list, running back inside.
“No, Millie, yucky!” He said, as he glanced to the side, grabbing the one-year-old from where she sat next to her brother, pulling a stray bit of grass out of her mouth. “Ollie, did you grab your swim goggles?”
“I don’t wanna swim, Daddy.”
“You might change your mind once we’re out there.”
“No, Daddy!”
Oliver was a sweet kid, but when it came to something he didn’t want to do, like swimming, he stood firm and got stubborn and grumpy. Leo and Finn swore it was a habit he had picked up from Logan. Logan argued that he had not necessarily been a sweet kid, which had been confirmed by his sisters.
Leo sighed, taking a breath to regain his patience, as he often did since becoming a father. It was taking longer to get three kids ready to go out on a boat than the actual time they’d be on said boat.
“G’mornin’ my Lelo and my Ollie Bug and my Emmy Lou!” Leo sighed with relief as dirty blond hair came into view through the front door.
Thank God.
“What do you need from me?” Eloise Knut asked as she looked up from kissing the kids good morning, noticing the look on his face.
“I…could you hold Millie? I need to check and see what’s taking the boys so long.” She opened her arms, more than happy to take her granddaughter onto her hip as Millie cooed.
“Last I heard, Wyatt and Logan were looking for a missing lifejacket. I didn’t see Finn or Mags.”
“Alright. Ollie, are your goggles in the swim bag?”
Oliver shrugged, avoiding eye contact. His fear of swimming was worrying, especially since he had refused to learn and he was about to turn five years old. Then the boys was instead distracted by a heron flying overhead.
“Grandmama, look!”
Leo sighed once again, stepping into the house. Nearly running face first into Finn, leading Margo out of the house, bags slung on his shoulder.
“Sorry, Daddy,” Margo said, giving him a hug around the middle, then side stepping him to go hug her grandma.
“Yeah, sorry, nutter butter,” Finn said with a grin. Then his brows furrowed. “What’s wrong, you look stressed?”
“I…this parenting thing is hard,” a phrase that they often used to mean I’m at the end of my rope here.
“Oh, Le. How can I help?” Finn put the bags down, circling Leo into his arms. “What do you still need to do before we leave?”
“You want a list?” Leo asked a bit sarcastically, but Finn nodded.
“Actually, yes. I want to help and your brain’s so organized all the time. You always know what everyone needs. We’d be a total mess without you.” Leo blushed, rolling his eyes a bit at the praise. Although it was making him feel a little better.
“Alright. I have to find Oliver’s goggles. I think they’re in the swim bag, but he also might have hidden them as an excuse not to swim. And then I think I forgot Millie’s baby sunscreen, and you know how her skin is.”
“Soft and sensitive, like a baby, and just like our Logan,” Finn supplied.
“Right. And I don’t know if my mama packed drinks in the truck. And then…” Leo looked down. There was one other thing. “Oh yeah, I need my own swim suit.”
“Okay, I’ll look for the goggles and make sure we have drinks. You grab the baby sunscreen and your own swimsuit. And maybe get Lo and your dad down here if possible. Okay?”
“Okay, thanks Fish.” Finn grabbed his face and placed a kiss on his forehead. “And tomorrow, your parents are bringing the kids to that festival, and we can have the day to ourselves to relax because we’re on vacation!” Leo smiled. He loved the kids. So much. But it would be nice to have his parents take them out so they could have a quiet morning in. Or, as Finn and Logan had insisted, maybe a not-so-quiet morning in.
It had become a nearly yearly tradition for them to visit his family near the summer solstice. There were a bunch of festivals in New Orleans to celebrate the solstice, including a fair that his parents would be bringing the kids to tomorrow. But today, as much as he may be regretting it, he had promised them they could go out on the boat.
---
When they were finally, finally out the door, and about to board the boat, Logan gave him a kiss on the side of his head, running one hand along his face, gaining his attention.
“Is your sunburn feeling okay? Your face is very red today.” Then he turned to the boy in his arms. “Did you steal all the sunscreen for yourself, Vivi?”
Oliver laughed.
“No, Papa. You’re silly!”
Luckily he was in a better mood now.
“Are we going to get you out in the water today, huh?”
Oliver shook his head. Logan nodded. They wouldn’t ever force him to swim. But they could at least hope to get him in the water.
Finn came up to them, bag in one arm and Millie in the other, now wearing her strawberry sunhat.
“Aw, Margo’s old hat! Une autre petite fraise!” Logan gave her cheek a kiss.
“Okay, all. Onto the boat!” Wyatt called out. As Margo ran ahead to be the first on, Oliver wiggled to get out of Logan’s arms to run after her. They had somehow wrestled him into his life jacket, and also convinced Margo to wear hers. Small victories. “Careful now, we don’t want anyone slipping. We don’t need you matching your Daddy in that way!” Wyatt called as he steadied the kids with a hand up into the boat.
Although Wyatt hadn’t been around to see the incident that had led to Leo’s gray spot, his mama had mentioned it often enough, reminded each time they got on a boat. He had been about the same age as Oliver was now, but certainly much more excited about the swimming aspect, trying to jump off the side of the boat but slipping and knocking his head on the way down. Luckily, he had been wearing a life jacket and his mom had easily fished him out of the water, spluttering and crying. He had been taken straight to the hospital, reinforcing the importance of boat safety to all of the adults and his two cousins who had been there to see it happen.
“C’est exact, fais attention,” Logan called, hurrying after the kids. Logan smiled, taking the baby from Finn’s arms, kissing her to a shriek of “Daddy!” as they made their way toward the boat.
“We need to get some sunscreen on you, Mils. Just because you might just tan like your Papa, you still need to wear sunscreen.” Which reminded him. “Did Lo put some on?” He asked as Finn helped steady his arm as he climbed onto the boat.
“No idea. I put some on Margo and Ollie in the car.” Finn helped him settle in a seat with Millie on his lap, babbling away. “Hey, Lo!” Finn called him over, asking if he had sunscreen on, and looking a bit guilty, Logan shook his head, taking the bag and fishing through it. He held out the baby sunscreen and then found some of the regular stuff.
Finn knelt in front of him and began putting some on Millie’s face, and she sputtered and began whining.
“Non!” She turned her face into Leo’s shoulder, crying out once again. “Non!”
Leo adjusted her, but she kicked out her feet and flailed her arms, catching a particularly sunburned part of his face, making him hiss out.
“Ici, soleil.” Logan gently plucked her up, then cooing and attacking her cheek with kisses, Finn was able to get some sunscreen around her arms and legs. Then Logan held her out and Finn quickly got her face before giving her a quick kiss on her cheek himself, standing back up straight and landing one on Logan’s jaw line.
“Ah, sunscreen!” Finn said, wiping at his mouth.
“You literally saw me put it on. Don’t know what you expected, rouge.”
They all took a seat as Wyatt started up the boat.
“Wait, did you put on sunscreen, Le?” Logan asked.
That was a good question. He supposed in the rush to leave, he didn’t get a chance to. His face must have said it all, because then he was being attacked with cold sunscreen hands on his face.
“No more Lobster Leo allowed!”
“Papa, Dada, Daddy, when can we swim?” Margo asked, coming up to them and leaned onto his lap, Oliver beside her.
“As soon as we get to a good stopping point. Probably a few more minutes, punkin.”
“Will you swim wif us?” Oliver asked and Leo’s heart soared with hope.
“Of course, bud. Are you going to try it?”
Oliver nodded, tentatively. Leo’s heart soared with relief.
“But you hafta hold on. I don’t wanna go under.”
“Of course we will, Ols. You’ll be safe with us,” Finn said, grabbing the boy and pulling him into his lap.
“Dada! You’re gross and sweaty! An’ it’s too hot!” Oliver’s curls were already sticking to his head in a way that Leo could guess his probably were, as well. Although he hadn’t lived in Louisiana for awhile, he was still used to the heat after spending 18 summers there. But Oliver was much like his Papa with respect to the extreme heat, Logan already looking miserably hot from his spot on a boat seat.
“Okay, okay,” Finn let go. “Maybe this summer, we can sign you up for your big boy swim lessons, huh?”
They had held off for another year last year, the pool offering parent and child lessons up to four-years old. And Oliver had been terrified of the water. It was an activity that Logan often did with the kids during his time off from hockey, and Emilie had been too little to start hers. But this year, they were hoping to get him in beginner independent lessons. This interest in swimming gave them hope.
“An’ you hafta protect me from alligators! I don’t want them to chomp off my toes!”
Leo glared slightly at Finn, this new fear of Oliver’s coming from one small comment from Finn that he needed to wear shoes in the yard so that the “alligators won’t chomp off your toes.”
Finn didn’t meet his eye, looking a little guilty, but said, “I promise we’ll be right there. Your Daddy’s a professional alligator wrangler, not to mention your Grandmama!”
“Really?” Margo asked, perking up, and glancing at Eloise, who was now steering the boat.
Leo laughed.
“You can ask her.” This had the two running off to ask, and Eloise caught them up in a hug, and an excited look, having Wyatt take the wheel as she told them a story about an alligator.
“We don’t want alligators chomping up your toes, hey Millie?” Finn said, now miming chompers with his hands, tickling her feet as she squirmed and squealed.
“Dada! Dada!”
Leo leaned back, watching the sun peak between the clouds.
Ah, what a summer this was turning out to be.

Thanks for reading!
Just as a sidenote, I headcanon that Wyatt is actually Leo’s step-dad. Background on this: When I was originally reading SW/Vaincre and fanfics based off of them, I saw a lot about mama’s boy Leo and I thought that Eloise was a single mom. So when I found out Wyatt existed, I decided that (in my headcanon) Wyatt is Leo’s step-dad and has been since Leo was about 12 (Leo’s never met his bio-dad, and he calls Wyatt “Dad”). I also liked the idea of Eloise Knut being a single mom for years, raising a completely self-sufficient, loving, (and also adorable) mama’s boy.
I’m curious to hear any thoughts about this, as well!
Happy O’Knutzy Week 2026 Day 5 (again)! As always, thank you to @lumosinlove for these stories and my newfound desire to watch hockey! And thank you to @oknutzy-week-2026 for making all of this possible!

“Dada, your job is so boring!” Margo piped up from where she was sitting on the chair in Finn’s office, pushing her feet on the desk so she could spin around. Not a great start to their afternoon.
“Margo!” Leo’s reprimand was paired with a shake of his head. Margo looked up at him with innocent eyes.
“But Daddy, Papa’s on TV! Papa works with the most famous hockey player ever!”
“And who would that be?” Finn asked.
“Uncle Sirius of course!”
“Don’t ever let your Uncle Loops or Uncle Reg hear you say that.” Leo said with a laugh.
“My job’s not boring! I get to teach about books!” Finn countered, knowing that it might not sound as fun as playing hockey, but it was still an enlightening career.
She looked at him, considering. “I do like books.”
“I know you do. And between you and me, your Papa’s job is a lot cooler. But you know who has the coolest job in the world?”
She shook her head, eyes widening in anticipation. Finn’s eyes met Leo’s and he rolled his eyes, knowing what Finn was going to say just a second before he said it. Which was enough time for him to start blushing apparently.
“Your Daddy! Because he gets to spend all day with the two of you!”
“Daddy is the coolest! And the only one without gray hairs!” Margo adds, laughing as Finn scoffed. Standing and walking over to Leo, bringing his fingers through Leo’s gray spot.
“And what do you call this?”
“That’s not old person gray hair. Not like this, Dada,” Margo stood on the chair, Leo’s arms coming around to steady her, as she pulled a rare gray strand of Finn’s hair in her fingers.
“Yes, okay, okay, I get it,” Finn said, and Margo was giggling. Leo couldn’t stop himself from chuckling. “Oh no, not you too!” He quickly pulled Leo in and gave him a kiss on the cheek.
“Dada! Yucky!” Margo exclaimed as they broke apart. “Can we please please please go now?”
The college was having a family night with booths and kids activities set up by the education majors who wanted to be elementary school teachers. Finn had mentioned a table for kids to pick out free books, as he had worked with his department on that.
“Lo here yet?”
“No, I don’t think he’s left the rink yet. We could probably head down to the event and meet him there.”
-----------
“I know all those constellations already,” Margo said proudly. At five years old, she already had the confidence of someone much older. “My Uncle Reg is part of the lion constellation right there. I love lions. And Uncle Sirius is right there. He says he’s a dog star. An’ Uncle Reg calls him a smelly wet dog! An’ also my cousin’s name means Star.” Then she called out, “Daddy! Look! Your name!”
Through the crowds of people at Gryffindor University’s Kids Discovery Day, Leo had finally caught up to Margo who had went running through the crowds when she saw the astronomy booth. He bent down to see what she was looking at, sending the college student who was running the booth a smile.
“What did you say, Punkin’?”
“Your name, Daddy!” She was pointing at a chart of constellations, the word “Leo” was in bright red with an arrow toward the constellation of a lion.
“Oh yeah. My name is also the name of a constellation. Actually, it’s the one that the Regulus star is in!”
“Read please, Daddy?” She asked, shoving a piece of paper with multiple constellations on it. He read the short blurb about the Leo constellation to her. She grinned, jumping up and down.
“Daddy, stickers!” Margo grabbed for the sticker sheets on the table.
“I see them, hon. Can you ask nicely if you can grab some?”
“Can I please, please, please have some star stickers? An’ some for my baby brother?”
“Of course, take as many as you want. They glow in the dark!” The university student said, smiling down at her and handing over the stickers. “And you can take some for your brother, too.”
“Thank you,” Leo said. Then he stood, glancing around for said baby brother. He found them a minute later, eyes catching the bouncing blond curls as Finn glanced around the crowd with Oliver high in his arms, bouncing the boy up and down as tears rolled down his face.
Oh no.
“Margs, lets go find Dada and Ollie. What do you say?”
“Thank you!” She grabbed the stickers and sheet of paper, and took off in the crowd once more.
“Margo!” He called, but she had already swerved between two people and was gone. At least she had gone in the direction of Finn.
When Leo made it through the dense crowds to Finn, he leaned over to kiss Oliver on the cheek.
“What’s wrong, bug?”
Leo caught the boy as he lurched toward him from Finn’s arms. He buried his face in Leo’s shoulder, sniffling. It hurt him to see their sweet two-year-old so sad. He looked at Finn, eyebrow raised.
Finn shrugged.
“He got upset when I didn’t follow you through the crowd. He was saying something in French, but all I picked up was ‘Papa’ because…y’know.” Even after so many years, years spent teaching their kids French by talking almost exclusively in that language some days of the week, Finn was still hopeless with it beyond a few key phrases. “Maybe he’s coming down with something,” Finn said, feeling his forehead. The boy didn’t respond. But there hadn’t been any other indication of sickness all day, the boy had simply been grumpy. Leo had a sneaking suspicion that he was getting his molars, and teething was never a fun time with kids.
“Well, you guys don’t have to stay. When Lo gets here…” But Finn shook his head.
“No, we’re going to your concert.” Leo had been playing in the Gryffindor community band since Margo was two, when Finn and Logan had mentioned that he didn’t seem to be doing any activities that were just for him, emphasizing that he was always working to take care of the family. He had finally admitted to wanting to join a band, having played oboe all through high school. So they had encouraged him, and for years he had been playing. Tonight they had a kid-friendly concert that they had planned to bring Margo and Oliver to.
“Lo and I can take turns walking him if necessary. He didn’t sleep well either, so he might just pass out to the sweet supple sounds of his Daddy playing oboe.”
Leo could feel himself blush, but was saved from responding by a soft, “Où est Papa?”
Leo decided to respond in French. It was also possible the boy was overstimulated and needed the steadiness of the language. “He’s coming from practice and he’ll be here in just a few minutes.” Leo had to go warm up with the band in twenty minutes, and he hoped that Logan could ease his departure a bit for Oliver. The boy had developed a new strain of separation anxiety that made it hard for them to leave unless he was fully distracted. “Your sister got you some stickers.” Oliver shifted so he could look at Margo, who was showing Finn the collection of items she got from the table.
“Oggie, I got you some glow in the dark stickers! B’cause you don’t like the dark!”
“Merci,” he said in a soft voice, reaching for them and staring at the collection.
“Let’s go now. I want to see more tables! Where are the free books, Dada?”
Finn glanced around, then he pointed at a table with a light blue tablecloth across the room.
Margo was about to set out before Leo called down to her, hand on her shoulder.
“Hey, you need to please slow down in these crowds, Margo. We don’t need you bowlin’ people over.” But before the words had even left his mouth, she was running once more.
Leo sighed.
“Ah, good old O’Hara energy,” Finn said, taking Leo’s hand and leading them smoothly through the crowd toward the booth. He was able to keep sight of her through the crowd, as he was taller than most here.
Leo could hear Margo’s excited voice as they walked up to her.
“No, I’m not lost! My dads are right there!”
“That’s your dad?” One of the college students asked, gesturing to Finn.
“Yep. My Dada and my Daddy. And my baby brother, Oggie!”
“Hi, Dr. O’Hara!” Another of the students said as they walked up. “Is this your family?”
Finn nodded, beaming, making introductions. Apparently these were a few education majors who were taking his upper-level English teaching class.
“And this is my husband, Leo, and my kids, Margo and Oliver,” Finn reached over and rustled Oliver’s hair, who, at seeing unfamiliar faces, hid in Leo’s shoulder once again, making a few of the students coo.
“I didn’t know you had kids or a husband, professor,” one of the girls said. Sofie, Leo remembered.
“Well, honestly, I don’t talk about them a whole lot in class because if I did, I’d go on and on and never get to my lesson!” Finn said, smiling at him. Leo blushed, but he could tell that Finn was telling an only slightly exaggerated truth.
“Well, it’s nice to meet you, Dr. O’Hara’s husband!” Leo was used to people recognizing him in public. Any professional athlete, or former professional athlete, was. But he wasn’t used to people calling him that. He loved it.
“Nice to meet you,” Leo said in return, shifting Oliver around so he could shake hands with the girl.
Finn chatted with his students a bit. After a few minutes, Margo had chosen a book and was darting between them, eying the other booths. In a moment, her eyes lit up and Leo knew she was about to bolt.
Then tan arms came under her shoulders and she was being pulled up into the air with a flurry of giggles.
“Papa!” She squealed.
“I knew you were about to run off, ma fraise. It’s busy in here. You know your dads have gotten slow and we can’t chase after you. Good thing I caught you, huh?” Logan smiled, hiking the girl over his shoulder before turning to give Leo a peck on the cheek and pat Oliver’s head. The boy looked up and cried out, “Papa!” before lunging for him. Logan easily caught the boy in his other arm, talking to him in French as the boy smiled and nuzzled into Logan’s neck. Logan unceremoniously deposited a wriggling Margo into Finn’s arms, turning to give him a peck, too.
By now, Finn’s students looked really confused. Finn laughed at their wide eyes.
“My other husband, Logan Tremblay,” Finn said by way of explanation. The students seemed to take this in stride, shaking hands once more.
“Oh, I do hope he’s teaching you all the right stuff! You should really listen to him, he helped me not fail out of my own English class in college!”
The students laughed. Then one piped up.
“You’re the Logan Tremblay? The hockey player.”
Logan nodded, obviously used to this. Over the past few years his popularity had grown significantly, especially in Gryffindor. Although Logan was quite a private person, he had had to get used to being recognized in public more and more.
“Oui, I am. But did you know that these two also were?”
“You played hockey, Dr. O’Hara?” One of them asked, looking as shocked as the rest of the girls. Finn laughed.
“I swear, no one listens to my start of the year presentation. I did mention I’m a big Lions fan and that I played hockey growing up.”
Leo had to admit that that was a huge understatement.
“Also, if you ever look me up on anything other than RateMyProfessor, you’d know all about my hockey career!” Finn had once bragged about his RateMyProfessor score of 4.7 out of 5, complaining that the student who pulled his score down hadn’t even shown up to class. Leo had asked why he was checking the website in the first place, and he had mentioned that his students were all talking about it in class and he had to keep up with the “opinions of the youth.”
They talked some more before Margo bolted once more with a shriek of “Uncle T!” This time, Leo turned to find that Margo was barreling straight into Thomas’s legs, the man laughing and rustling her hair, little Ellie smiling down at her from her dad’s arms, Charlie weaving around him, looking extremely excited to see her cousin.
“Ah, you made it!” Logan said as he and Leo hurried after her, leaving Finn talking with one of his coworkers, Oliver now clinging to his neck.
“Did you doubt me, Lo Lo Bear?”
“Arrête, Talker!” Lo said, glancing around, as if anyone was listening to them in the overly crowded and loud area. “Only my sisters and my parents get to call me that!”
“I am your sister now, man.” Logan shoved him lightly, leaning over to give Ellie a kiss on the cheek.
“Whatever you say.”
“I’m extra-prepared and ultra-excited to hear you on the oboe, Knutty!” Thomas said, setting Ellie down as she wriggled. “You want your Uncle Leo, don’t you?” And, sure enough, the girl immediately walked to Leo’s legs. He picked her up, kissing her on the cheek.
“Bonjour, Ellie!” Leo turned back to Thomas. “Don’t get too excited, T.”
“Oh, I am!”
“Untle Knut?” Ellie asked. He turned to her once again, smiling at her bright green Tremblay eyes that matched her sister’s, mother’s, and uncle’s.
“Oui, mon chou?”
“I wanna pay music like you do when I grow up,” the three-year-old’s voice was smiling up at him, eyes bright. Then he heard a cry from behind and he recognized immediately, even through the noise of the crowd. That’s my kid.
“Non, Daddy! Non, Ewie!”
Oliver was toddling over to him, Finn following from behind. The two-year-old could be fast when he wanted to be. And also territorial.
“Okay, okay. It’s fine, bug.” The next thing he knew, he was holding a kid in each arm, both refusing to leave, staring each other down. The cousins usually loved each other, both having similar sweet dispositions that they got along so well. But they were territorial of their parents, often angry when their cousin was getting attention from their mom or dads instead of them. It was an issue that they hoped the kids would grow out of, but hadn’t yet.
“Um, where did Margo go? And did you just bring one today?” Finn asked after he clapped hands with Thomas in greeting.
“That girl is going to be the death of me,” Leo muttered, glancing around until he spotted red and brown hair on the other side of the room.
“Well, at least she’s enjoying this event,” Finn reasoned, as they made their way over. “Maybe she won’t think my job’s so boring after all.”
“Aw, you really took that to heart, didn’t you, Finn?” Leo asked, smiling as he relayed the story to Thomas and Logan.
“Your own daughter, huh?” Thomas asked. “I want you to know that my daughters think that my job is cool.”
“Peut-être, but do they think your job’s cooler than my sister?”
Thomas let out a barking laugh and then looked away, shaking his head.
Once they made it to Margo, Logan leaning down to once again remind her that she needed to stay with them, Thomas making sure Charlie stopped running off as well. These two were often very well behaved by themselves, Margo a bit less so when she was excited, but when they got together, their energy fed off each other and they would get a bit crazy.
“She’s going to love your concert so much,” Finn said. “You’re going to be the new cool dad.”
“I was always the cool dad,” Leo said, although he wasn’t sure he believed it. “Speaking of the concert…” Leo glanced at the two kids in his arms still in a glaring match, gripping his shoulder tightly. “I’ve got to go get warmed up.”
“Here,” Finn said, grabbing Ellie, who went with little resistance, happy to see her other uncle who she hadn’t seemed to notice was there.
“Dada, non!” Oliver said, now struggling to get out of Leo’s arms. Thomas offered to take him, and when he handed him over, the two kids started screeching.
“Alright, I think it’s time to go,” Finn said, as he and Thomas quickly traded toddlers. “We got this, Le. You go.”
“Time to go, Margo and Charlie!” Logan said, noticing the squabble and taking each of them by hand. “I think ice cream is in order before the concert.”
And, as expected by this promise of ice cream, the kids calmed down and jumped around with excitement. Enough for Leo to sneak away, waving at Finn, who was purposely holding Oliver’s attention away from Leo’s quick departure.
The concert was a great success! Leo stood proudly as the audience clapped after their final piece. He then noticed Margo and Charlie, each standing on a chair, each being held tightly by Finn and Thomas, clapping, calling for him and waving. It seemed that the other two kids were already asleep on Logan’s shoulders as Logan attempted to clap, but couldn’t quite reach around them, instead giving a soft whooping sound that Leo read from his lips.
On the car ride home, Margo told them, sleepily that “Daddy definitely has the coolest job of you all,” before promptly falling asleep, unknowingly causing a whispered debate among them about who really did have the coolest job.
And while they couldn’t decide, his boys reassured him that Leo’s stay-at-home, keeping their life together job was definitely the most important of them all.

Happy O’Knutzy Week 2026 Day 5! As always, thank you to @lumosinlove for these wonderful stories and for my 300 day duolingo streak because after meeting the Dumais’s and Logan, I just had to learn French! And thank you to @oknutzy-week-2026 for making all of this possible!
Dumais Departure: Bound, Encouragement
Lo adjusting to moving out of the Dumais family household, featuring Katie Dumais and the rest of the gang!
Thanks for reading and let me know what you think! Enjoy!
-------------------------------------
It had been a week since Logan officially moved out of the Dumais’s and into his boys’ apartment. And he was over again for dinner. For the fourth time that week.
If he was completely honest with himself, he had spent more time at the Dumais house than he had at his boys’ apartment that week, even sleeping over a few of the nights after dinner. He had told himself (and Pascal) that he was still moving things out of the basement. But that wasn’t exactly true. Wednesday night, Leo and Finn had come to help move the rest of his things over after dinner with the family.
And here he was again, two nights later, enjoying Celeste’s amazing pot roast.
When Logan was in the car with Pascal after practice, Pascal had asked if he was okay.
“I mean to say, are you certain that moving out is what you want to do?”
He had glanced up from where he had been texting his boys about when he planned to be home.
“Of course, why?” He expected a joking comment about how it was “as if he never left,” that he had heard plenty of from Celeste and Dumo the past few days.
But instead, Pascal looked genuinely worried.
“Well, it just…seems like you’re having a tough time leaving. We love your company, of course. We want you around. I just wanted to make sure you felt like this was the best decision. I want to make sure everything was okay over at the boys’ place.”
“Oh. Yes. It’s wonderful. It’s…” Logan had trailed off, knowing he had a goofy grin on his face. Pascal gave him a look before turning back to the road.
“No details necessary, mon fils.” Which had caused Logan to blush and stare pointedly out the window. A few minutes later, Pascal brought up another point. “If you’re feeling guilty about the kids…”
Logan hadn’t been the only one who was seemingly having a tough time with this transition. Every time he came over, the kids clung to him. The younger two physically, while the older two just wanted to spend time with him. And he'd be lying to himself and Pascal if he said that wasn’t part of the reason. But really, he was just…clinging to the family that had taken him in as a rookie. His “Gryffindor family” as he referred to them with his parents and sisters, who often just called them his "other family."
And every time he remembered that he would be going home to his boys, his heart soared. But part of it dropped, too, when he remembered the sad look in Katie’s eyes every time he had to go to practice instead of stay and play. Louis holding out a game controller, a hopeful look in his eye. Celeste’s soft humming as she cooked dinner. The warm smell of the house. The feeling of safety and comfort.
It was a strange sense of homesickness, really.
“Look, mon fils. As much as I joke about encouraging you to move out, you can always come back. I see the way you boys are and I doubt you’ll ever need to move back in permanently. But even for just the night. Or a weekend. Whenever. You are family. You will always be welcomed back with open arms. Moving out doesn’t change anything. You will always be family. Just as Sirius is family, too. I know you know this. But I need you to hear it again and understand that this doesn’t change anything. Oui?”
“Ouias. Merci, Papa.” Logan had said in a joking tone. And in some ways he wasn’t joking. And Pascal seemed to know that.
So here he sat, stomach full from the delicious pot roast, sitting on the couch, Katie in his lap, Adele sitting next to him on the couch, Marc nodding off against his arm on the other side, trying to beat Louis at Mario Kart, as he heard a knock at the door.
“It smells amazing in here! I sure hope you saved some dessert for me!” Finn’s voice drifted in as he walked through the living room, stepping in front of the TV.
Logan groaned as he lost sight of the track, forfeiting the game to Louis as Finn leaned down and kissed his forehead.
“Rouge!” Logan said in a mock-groan. “You made me lose!”
Louis was laughing like a maniac as Leo drifted into the room.
“Sounds rowdy in here!” He came over to the couch, smiling his bright sunny smile. “Hey guys, how’s it going? Oh, Adele, I loved that series when I was your age!”
Marc had woken up a bit, and was now hugging Finn around the middle.
“Harzy, Harzy, Harzy!” Finn laughed, picking him up so that he was upside down.
“Goodness, should have known you two were here just by the noise!” Celeste said, walking through the entrance.
“There’s chocolate cupcakes for tired kids in the kitchen.”
And Louis and Marc were off, followed slowly by Adele, who was still talking with Leo.
Then Finn stepped close, setting a hand on Logan’s back, arm out to pull him up to his feet when there was an ear-splitting scream.
“NOOO!”
Finn startled back, everyone staring at the little girl in Logan’s lap. Pascal’s face peaked from the kitchen.
“Katie, what…?” Logan asked, moving to get up. But this only made her scream once again.
“Stay, stay, stay! Don’t leave!” Then she turned to Leo and Finn, screaming, “Why do you have to take him away?”
They all stared at each other for another minute before Logan felt tears forming in his eyes, and he turned, sniffing and wiping his eyes.
Pascal came in, waving the rest of them out to the kitchen, coming to kneel near the couch.
“Mon chou, no one has taken our Logan away.”
He sniffed again, feeling an actual tear on his cheek.
“Oh, mes enfants.” Pascal came to sit next to them, and Logan felt himself being enveloped into a hug. “Things are changing, and I know it’s hard, Katie. But we’re still going to see Logan so much. But we do have to let him grow up and move out.”
“But…but why?” Katie asked in a tearful voice, effectively breaking Logan’s heart once more.
“Because he can’t live with us forever. He wants to move in with his boys and make space for more people here. Just like when Sirius moved out.”
“Sirius moved out and lived all alone.”
“True, yes. Maybe a bad example. But he lives with Remus now.”
“Loops!” Katie said cheerfully, smiling through sad eyes.
“Oui.” Soft padded footsteps came from the other side of the room. Logan glanced up to see Celeste walking over. She sat on their other side of him, and put an arm around Logan’s shoulder.
“Logan’s going to visit us so much. Whenever he wants. Or at the very least once a week.”
“Oui, I promise,” Logan said, kissing Katie’s forehead.
Celeste then leaned in close, talking in a loud whisper.
“And in the meantime, Katie, do you remember that present you got for your birthday?” Katie seemed to think for a second. Then she perked up.
“You mean we can have matching ones?”
“Oui, mon minou.”
Katie turned to Logan, now excited, whispering into his ear, “Can they be rainbow colors so we match Leo too?” Logan had no idea what she was talking about, but he nodded, trying to remember the gifts she had gotten for her last birthday just a few weeks ago.
“Ouias, sure.”
Katie hopped off his lap. But before she could get very far, Celeste held onto her hand.
“First, you need to apologize to Finn and Leo for yelling at them. They aren’t taking Logan away from us. And they are part of our family, too. And they will be for a very long time, I think,” her eyes sparkled as she looked at Logan. He could feel himself smiling, and rolled his eyes half-heartedly as she kissed his cheek and followed Katie to the kitchen.
----
Two days later, when Logan was once again at the Dumais’s house for dinner, he was presented with a bracelet, purple and pink, his and Katie’s favorite colors. A matching one sat on her wrist.
“Now we match! Will you wear it?”
“Always!” Logan said, kissing her on the cheek.
She then turned a little shyly to Finn and Leo, setting a bracelet into each of their hands, and another into Logan’s. Each was a mix of red, yellow, and green.
“Mama says that friendship bracelets mean that we’re bound together through friendship. But you’re not my friend.” Logan was taken aback at that for a moment, and he saw Finn glance up at Logan, a small hurt clear on his face, and Leo still glancing at Katie, nodding patiently. “We’re family.”
That night, when Logan had said his goodbyes to the family, Katie had not cried while he was leaving. A first since he had moved out. Instead, she was waving and jumping up and down at Logan’s promise to see her after their home game.
Logan kept both bracelets close. A reminder of his Gryffindor family. He and Sirius, who had quickly received his own bracelet, got to show off their bracelets to two child reporters interviewing them after the game. Logan showed his purple and pink one, Sirius his red and pink one, telling the cameras all about their little sister, Pascal beaming over at them, Katie wedged in the middle, smiling as she talked about her two biggest brothers.
O'Knutzy Week Day 4: Beach Day Brunch and Godforsaken Golf Balls
Happy O’Knutzy Week 2026 Day 4! As always, thank you to @lumosinlove for these wonderful, competitive hockey boys! And thank you to @oknutzy-week-2026 for making all of this possible!
Beach Day Brunch and Godforsaken Golf Balls: Freckles, Workout
The boys take Leo on a summer date!
Thanks for reading and let me know what you think! Enjoy!
-------------------------------
“Morning, sunshine!” Finn’s excited voice called as Leo walked into the kitchen and was handed a cup of coffee, a kiss placed on his cheek. “We’re taking you on a summer date-day, so drink that and then we’re leaving.”
“Huh?” Leo asked, still a little foggy from just waking up.
“Allez, Le, let’s go pick out something to wear.”
“Breakfast?” Leo asked, as Logan took his hand and led him back upstairs.
“We’re getting brunch. Then we’re keeping the rest of the day a surprise. So put on a summer outfit and pack a change of clothes and maybe a swimsuit.” Logan winked at him as he let go of his hand to grab a backpack, stuffing his own clothes in.
“Don’t forget the sunscreen,” Leo said as he went about getting dressed for the day and collecting the extra clothes, now smiling with excitement. He loved when his boys had a day planned.
“Ouias, my little sunbugs. Le coup de soleil.”
“Just because you don’t burn…”
“Oui, oui, still wear sunscreen, je sais.”
When they were packed and ready to go, Finn drove them out into the less populated areas of Gryffindor.
“Any hints on where you’re taking me?” Leo asked, watching the landscape out the window.
“Well, first…” But Finn was cut off as Logan’s hand landed on his mouth.
“Secrets! Surprises, Fish! No hints!” Then Logan made a noise of disgust, taking his hand away. “You licked me! Unbelievable. Keep your tongue to yourself!”
“That’s not what you usually say,” Finn said with a wide grin, eyes glancing in the rearview mirror to smile at Leo, his freckles more present than ever in the morning sunlight. “All I was going to say was that we’re taking him to brunch, which he already knows. But I bet you can’t guess where.”
Leo’s eyes widened at Finn’s excited tone.
“Are you really taking me to Hogsmeade Cafe?” The best breakfast place they had found in Gryffindor, sat right next to a beautiful lake.
“Oui,” Logan said, smiling back at him. “Got a reservation for the table overlooking the lake.”
“Oh, so that’s why someone woke me up before my alarm.”
“Oui, désolé, beurre. I wanted to let you sleep as long as possible.” Logan had been up with him when he had been unable to sleep after waking up at two am. He had stroked through his hair, whispered to him. It had put him back to sleep, eventually, but he had still woken up groggy to a pair of lips on his cheek and a soft french-accent in his ear.
“It’s alright, Lo. Didn’t mean to wake you up at two…” But as this conversation usually went, Logan answered with an uh-uh and Finn interrupted with a “you woke up again? Were you able to get back to sleep?” his voice full of pure worry and Leo simply remembered how much he loved them.
After a wonderful brunch filled with laughter and one of the best french toasts he’d ever had, eating as they overlooked the boats on the water, Finn pulled them both up, nearly bouncing with excitement. He led them toward the car, but instead of getting in, he simply unlocked it and grabbed his bag.
“Next up on the itinerary is…” He reached into his bag and pulled out his swimsuit, “get naked!”
“Finn!” Leo said, feeling himself blush, as he glanced around. Luckily, no one was close enough to hear.
“Okay, okay. But we do need to change. Don’t forget the sunscreen.”
Twenty minutes later, they were stepping into a three-person kayak, pushing out onto the water. Logan seemed a little nervous, but they had convinced him to settle in the middle.
“You’ll be fine, Lo. Don’t worry, I’ll save you if you fall in,” Finn had said, settling behind him.
When Logan still looked a little nervous, Leo told him they didn’t have to do this, although he was extremely excited to try.
Leo loved kayaking. Not only did his family do a lot of boating, but they also owned kayaks, and would use them whenever they could. It had been awhile since he’s been kayaking. Whenever they went to New Orleans, the boys insisted on going out into the boat, which Leo cheerfully obliged.
After Finn had coaxed Logan into the kayak, whispering something in his ear that Logan responded to with a look at Leo and a wicked grin, he had settled in with more enthusiasm.
“How did you know I like to kayak?” Leo asked, attempting to turn from his front seat to ask them.
“I remember you saying something about them. And Wyatt was talking to me about all the kayaking you guys’ve done. I asked him if you liked it and he said it was one of your favorite hobbies growing up,” Logan said from directly behind him.
“Which is crazy that we didn’t know that! I thought we knew everything there was to know about our nutter butter baby, but you surprise us every day!” Finn called from further back.
“I didn’t realize this place had kayaking or I would have dragged you two here a long time ago!” Leo told them as he paddled. There was a lot of drag from the back, but he was used to a one-person kayak, so maybe that was it. “This sure is a workout!” He attempted to paddle harder, making a bit of progress, feeling the pull of his muscles in his shoulders and back.
As he continued, he realized that his boys hadn’t said anything for at least a minute. When he glanced back, he just saw the two of them staring at him, oars in hand, but neither paddling. Logan’s mouth was open in little o and a pretty blush peppered his cheeks, Finn was just looking at him dreamily, with a smirk.
“God, Le, we should have taken you kayaking before now.”
“This is doing things to me, buerre.”
Leo blushed once again, glaring at them.
“I wondered why I was feeling so much drag back there. Are you two going to help or are you going to ogle all day?”
“Is the second one an option?” Finn’s voice piped up.
“Your shoulders, Le, Finn was right about this,” he felt the kayak shift and hands touching his back, “you’re so strong. Keep going!”
Leo had certainly bulked up the past few years, and his shoulders, especially, had gotten a lot broader in the process.
“What am I going to do with you two?” Leo asked, complying and continuing to paddle.
“I certainly have some ideas,” Finn said.
When he had finally convinced them to help him, they started making progress, fighting against the wind pushing their boat away.
For the most part, they stayed relatively dry, except for when Finn exclaimed excitedly from the back as a few ducks floated toward their kayak, rocking the kayak and nearly capsizing them. Logan yelped and gripped the boat with an admonishing “rouge” as Leo tried to steady them.
When they were steady once more, Logan turned to Finn, Leo glancing back to see Logan’s familiar grumpy pout.
“Allez, I’m done.”
“Something making you nervous?” Finn asked, innocently. “You have a life jacket and everything! And you can swim!”
“Je sais, mais…”
“Let’s go back,” Leo said, happy to stop if it helped Logan.
“I don’t want to ruin…”
“Non, Lo. Let’s go, I’d like to be dry again.”
“And we can go to our next stop!” Finn said, excitedly from the back.
----
Thirty minutes later, now in dry clothing, they pulled into another park.
“Minigolfing?” Leo asked, reading the sign.
“Oui!” Logan said from the back seat. “I’ve never been, but Harz says it’s fun.”
“We were trying to think about what people do on summer dates, and this seemed like a good idea.”
Leo hadn’t been minigolfing since he was in middle school. He remembered he hadn’t been very good. This one seemed like a large course, and he noticed a mix of colorful figurines of various animals around as they made their way in and Finn paid.
“So how does this work?” Logan asked as they made their way to the first hole. Finn described the simple rules, showing him the card for if they wanted to keep score. Logan insisted they use it, as competitive as ever, even when it came to minigolf.
“Alright, Butter, you first!” Finn said, leading Leo onto the first course.
“Why?”
“Maybe I want to watch from behind,” he said with a wink. Leo rolled his eyes, glancing around. Luckily, the families that were there were well ahead of them on the course.
It took all of three holes for Logan to start swearing.
“You’ve got to aim it, Lo, love.” Finn told him.
“I am!” Logan fished his ball out of the little pool that he had hit it into, and set it on the green once more. He hit it again, a little too hard once again, the ball ricocheting off a rock.
“Gentler, Lo,” Leo suggested. Logan tried once more, and the ball stopped right before the hole. He groaned as the ball bounced off the hole and back out on another swing. Logan swore quietly under his breath in French. He finally hit it in, with a sigh, taking the ball out and talking to it.
“I have a feeling you hate me. But trust me, the feeling’s mutual!”
Leo chuckled, Finn barely looked up from the score card.
“So shall I put that down as maybe…a three?” Logan had hit it at least eight above par, but he and Finn had both made par, so Finn seemed to feel bad.
“Non, rouge, don’t go easy on me. That was just a fluke.” He sidled up next to Finn, taking the pencil and writing in an eight.
“Alright,” Finn said, laughing, giving Logan and Leo a kiss each before moving onto the next one.
By the time Logan had hit his ball ten times, without making it into the hole, he started shouting once more.
“I’m literally a professional athlete! My literal job is to get a puck in a net! And I can’t even get this in the hole!”
Finn, who was closer to Logan, muttered something under his breath, most likely something inappropriate from the curve of his mouth, and Logan fought a grin, shoving Finn on the arm instead with a shake of his head.
Then, “Uncle Tremzy?”
There were running feet and an excited giggle as a tiny figure with red hair flew through the green to latch onto Logan’s legs.
It took Leo’s brain a moment to catch up before someone was calling, “Remy!” and a hand was patting him on the shoulder.
“Hey, guys!” Remus said, gold club in hand. “Funny seeing you here!”
The man looked a little frazzled, but grinned at them.
Remy Potter, who was now being swung up into Finn’s arms, giggled, “Uncle Remus, Uncle Leo, look! I’m flying!” Finn swung her around once more before setting her down.
“Hey, Loops!” He greeted. “Where’s the rest of the gang? Are you out with Lily and the kids?” Leo couldn’t imagine Sirius ever going minigolfing.
“Babysitting, actually.”
“Hey, Remus, did you find her? Oh, hey guys!” Sirius said, coming into their view, leading two kids by the hands, Harry trailing after him.
“Hey, Cap, baby Loops, all the little LilyPots.” When he had first heard them, Finn had been obsessed with the ship-names that fans often called his teammates and friends. He would often use the names to poke fun at the couples. By now, Finn just used them unironically, Leo guessed it had turned into a habit.
“Having fun?” Sirius asked.
“Well, some of us are,” Leo said, glancing at Logan, who had kneeled down to talk to Remy, simultaneously tightening one of her pigtails that had come undone in her flight.
“Well, if this game wasn’t so impossible!”
“Oh, you’ve got one of them, too, huh?” Remus asked, as he looked back at Sirius. Etta, their three-year-old, was now next to Remus, looking to be picked up.
“This game is rigged!” Sirius shot back.
“Just because an eight-year-old is beating you.”
“Actually, a six-year-old,” Harry said, pointing at Evie Potter, who was hiding slightly behind Sirius, looking a bit overwhelmed by all the people.
“I’m winning, too!” Etta said, now in Remus’s arms. She looked adorable with her little strawberry sunhat, small dark braids poking out, a little competitive pout on her face.
“Oui, ma chérie. You’re beating your Dada and I! But only because Reggie taught you how to golf! Unfair advantagem,” Sirius said.
“Can Uncle Regulus teach me how to golf?” Harry asked, looking hopeful.
“I think I’ll be signing up Sirius for some golf lessons with Uncle Regulus,” Remus said, with a smile aimed at Sirius.
“Pretentious pédant,” Sirius muttered, but looked fond. “This game is impossible. But I guess it’s fun. Even if I’m being beaten by my godchildren and my three-year-old.”
“And your husband,” Remus reminded, earning him a glare and a laugh from Leo.
“Well, loser gets ice cream!” Sirius said, smiling at the kids.
“I want ice cream!” Remy said, now running circles around them all with all the unbridled energy of an extra hyper four-year-old that Lily insisted was all James Potter’s genes. “Ice cream, ice cream, ice cream!”
“I think Uncle Sirius meant to say, loser buys ice cream!” Remus said, Remy now pulling him back toward their game.
“Let’s go, Uncle Remus.”
“Well, best of luck to you,” Sirius said, pointedly looking at Logan as he made to leave.
“Thanks, Cap, but I don’t need it. I’m gonna crush them, they don’t even know!”
They all laughed, then Sirius was pulled away by the slightly less unbridled, hyper energy of Harry Potter.
Leo waved to Evie, who was glancing back at them as she was led away by Sirius. She smiled and returned the wave.
“I’ll never understand how Pots had such a calm kid,” Finn said, waving at her, as well.
“Guess all the energy was pent up for the next one!” Logan said, laughing as they watched Remus barely stop Remy from jumping into one of the pools of water, one hand gripping her arm and pulling her away, the other still holding Etta. “I got her,” Sirius called as he took Remy into his arms, hauling her over his shoulder and upside down with an echo of giggles.
When they finished their game and went to get their own ice cream, Logan had in fact not crushed them, and instead got one of the highest scores the workers had seen from someone who had tried.
“You know, in my field of work, high scores are quite impressive,” Logan said to them, after autographing the score sheet when one of the blushing workers asked for his signature.
“We’re gonna have to get you and Sirius to come here and see who wins,” Finn said, when they made their way to a picnic table in the shade of a tree.
“I would so beat Cap in minigolf!” Logan insisted, stealing a lick of Leo’s ice cream cone.
“Hey, tongue to yourself!” Leo said, laughing as Logan kissed him, tasting the sweet taste on his lips.
“Yeah, you were right, Finn, that is definitely not something we usually say!”
--------
I hope you enjoyed! Logan being bad at minigolf is hilarious to me!
In the next couple of weeks, I will be publishing a story about the Potter kids (specifically the birth of their third baby, Remy) so if you're interested, watch out for that. It will be posted on here and on my ao3! Thanks for reading!

Happy O’Knutzy Week 2026 Day 3 (again)! As always, thank you to @lumosinlove for these boys, who are the perfect characters for writing fluff! And thank you to @oknutzy-week-2026 for making all of this possible!
Rest, love: Early Morning, Tiptoe
For context: This takes place after Finn and Leo have retired. Finn is a professor and Leo is a stay-at-home dad for their kids. Logan still plays hockey with the Lions!
Thanks for reading and let me know what you think! Enjoy!
------------------------------
Leo heard the door squeak open and tiptoes on the floor before the bed bent down next to him. The slight chill on the sheets next to him told him that neither of his boys were with him, and hadn’t been for a little while at least.
Groggily, and without opening his eyes, he reached for the figure, trying to determine who it was and if he had to get up yet. He felt the small figure curl into his arms and he relaxed, content to cuddle with Margo for the time being.
Not even two minutes later, the door creaked open once more and heavier feet walked around the bed.
There was a shift in the girl in his arms and then the soft whispered voice of Logan.
“Daddy’s trying to sleep, Margo. Allez, out of here.” Then there was a giggle as the girl was taken up and out of Leo’s arms.
Leo cracked his eyes open just enough to see Logan wrestling the girl onto his back and sneaking out of the room, closing the door on the way. He closed his eyes once again.
A handful of minutes later, Leo couldn’t have guessed how long, the door creaked open a third time, then closed, and someone joined him on the bed once more, this time near his back. Leo rolled over, his eyes still closed, and found someone’s shoulder. He nuzzled in, and could smell a scent that could only be Logan.
He groaned, nuzzling in further before a hand came up and ran through his hair, then down his neck. Then the motion was repeated with varying forms of pressure added, moving onto his shoulders. Leo groaned once again.
God, that felt good. He hadn’t realized he was feeling so tense.
“If you keep sounding like that, I’m not sure if we’ll make it downstairs today.” Leo smiled, still sleepy, at Logan’s gravelly morning voice.
“The kids?”
“Finn’s got ‘em.”
“Breakfast?”
“Taken care of, even Finn and I can make yogurt and fruit.”
“Milk, too?”
“Oui, Vivi’s all fed and changed.”
Leo sighed once more.
“I love you.”
“Love you more, mon soleil.”
“Time to get up?”
“Nah. I was sent in here to keep you company. Finn’s taking them to the park for a bit after breakfast.”
“Need help?”
“Non, his specific instructions were ‘make sure he sleeps at least two more hours’ because apparently 'even his magic boo-boo healing kisses can’t heal your poor tired eyes.'” Leo snorted at that. Finn’s magic boo-boo healing kisses had definitely saved them a lot of money on bandaids the last few years. “Sounds like you had a late night, then?”
“More like an early morning.” Finn had found him at three in the morning, trying his best to get their four-month-old to take his bottle. He had been up since one, when Oliver had woken up the first time and refused to drink the milk he offered. He knew that Logan had fed him at midnight, and so Leo had simply changed him and put him back to sleep, only to be woken up once again at two thirty to a hungry and irritable baby. When Finn had walked in, Leo had nearly cried, and Finn had taken one look and grabbed the bottle, the baby, and led Leo back out of the room to go back to sleep. But they all knew that Leo had a terrible time trying to sleep if he heard the least bit of crying, and Finn had come back thirty minutes later to find Leo still awake, feeling guilty about his inability to help, simply staring at Logan’s sleeping figure.
Strangely enough, he must have slept straight through their usual five am wake up feeding call, which Finn often took care of before going out for his morning run.
And here he was, still sleeping at whatever time this was.
“What’s the time?”
“Just past eight.”
“Have to go soon?” Logan often left for practice by nine, and Finn should definitely be out the door for school.
“Not today, beurre. It’s Saturday. I don’t have a game today. Finn’s not teaching. You’re allowed to sleep. Just rest, love.”
He let the low French wash over him as he sighed into the kiss Logan left on his shoulder, then on his cheek.
He drifted off for a few more minutes before he heard the distinct sound of crying from downstairs.
“Ollie,” Leo said, moving to get up. But Logan pulled him back before he had even gotten to the edge of the bed.
“Finn’s got it, soleil. Please just relax. Let us take care of you. As Finn would say, ‘you’re so bad at relaxing.’”
He would say that. He had said that, especially since they’d had kids.
And sure enough, the crying stopped a minute later.
There was more sound from downstairs. An excited squeal from Margo, Oliver’s giggles, running footsteps, Finn’s clear voice with an, “Alletz go!” followed by their three-year-old’s protests at the terrible French.
They had clearly taught her well.
“He’s so loud,” Logan said, extremely fondly.
As they heard the door close, Logan started petting through Leo’s hair once again, and he relaxed further into Logan’s chest.
Happy O’Knutzy Week 2026 Day 3! As always, thank you to @lumosinlove for creating these boys and allowing me to put them into a thousand different scenarios! And thank you to @oknutzy-week-2026 for making all of this possible!
Escape: Zoo
Thanks for reading and let me know what you think! Enjoy!
When Logan had heard that the Gryffindor Lions would be running a fundraising event for endangered species at the Gryffindor Zoo, he had assumed that it would be more fun. Not that the beginning of the day hadn’t been fun. And the middle, too. But the end? A huge bore.
The beginning of the day had been a blast! They had started off the day with a photoshoot wearing the zoo’s merch, and had been presented with the collaboration merch that the zoo would be selling, with animals playing hockey. Then it had been a whole lot of signing. T-shirts, figurines, bobble-heads, cups, posters, you name it, Logan had signed it.
Then they had been brought to an area that was set up for another shoot, but instead of more pictures, they were each called up for a video, being asked questions from young Lions fans.
That had been fun to watch. Leo had answered honestly that his favorite animal was alligators, because they “reminded him of home.”
Thomas had confidently told the kid that was interviewing him that Sirius could definitely beat a bear in combat. James had answered that his spirit animal was a stag, because “they're pretty noble and protective, I think.” A shockingly sober answer for the usually quite hyper winger. Kuny had confidently told the kids that if he had to turn into an animal for a day, it would have to be Yoda. Remus had been asked why he was named after a wolf-man, and he had stared directly into the camera and said “my parents like to joke. You know my younger brother has a perfectly normal name?” Finn had answered that penguins would be the best hockey players out of all the animals. Sirius had said no, he’d never actually ridden a lion or any other animal before, but he’d probably like to if they wouldn’t bite him (and he told them that he probably could not beat a bear in a fight, but maybe he could beat one at hockey). Dumo had answered that he would love to have a pet giraffe, but he already had four wild animals at home. And Logan had had a tough time choosing between running as fast as a cheetah or be as strong as an elephant (he chose the cheetah, “so I could always beat Finn in a race.”)
Then they had been shuffled outside to take pictures with fans and sign more signatures, this time with actual people. Then they had been taken in pairs or trios to do another video shoot, this time answering trivia questions. Later, Logan found out that Sirius and James had been completely beaten by Remus, because of his extensive knowledge on Lions (“look guys, I was a Lions fan when I was young. I knew everything there was to know about them!”). Leo had come out of his interview with Cole and Thomas a little red faced, and Thomas had gone on and on about how Leo knew everything there was to know about animals and that those two hadn’t stood a chance! Logan and Finn, having just left their interview with Dumo, had wrapped him up in their arms, cooing at him until he laughed, smiling and blushing some more.
After that, they had lunch, before they spent their afternoon walking around to exhibits, where they featured players participating in special celebratory events. First, “retired player Kasey ‘the Blizzard’ Winter” had gone in to meet the penguin that had been named after him. They had all watched, smiling, Finn obviously a little jealous of getting to actually meet the penguins. Kasey had shown up right after lunch before being swept off to get dressed and miced for the event.
A few players, who had volunteered at lunch, had gone into the alligator and crocodile exhibit to feed them. Finn and Thomas had been the first to volunteer, so they had been chosen. Leo had nervously started telling Finn what to do if an alligator started snapping, which had caused Finn, a new fear in his eyes, to pull Leo over with him, insisting to the manager that Leo needed to come, too. She had nodded quickly before leaving. Logan had watched, a little nervously, while they fed the alligators. He took a video, captioned it “The boys we’ve chosen to marry!”, adding a heart before sending it to Noelle. She had called not two minutes later, insisting that he put her on face time so she could watch, too.
They had gone to the wolf exhibit, where the zoo was fundraising for a bigger habitat, and had Remus walk around the habitat and meet the only friendly wolf, ironically named Romulus.
Finally, Sirius, Logan, and James had been brought into the lion exhibit, where they were naming the new baby lion cub Stanley after their win. Sirius had actually been handed the cub to hold, and Logan and James had been given a small cup that resembled the Stanley Cup and a Gryffindor Lions banner. They had smiled, Logan spotting his boys in the crowd, Finn looking excited and Leo looking adoringly at the baby cub in Sirius’s arms.
----------
So after the whirlwind of fun events all day, now they were here. At the end of a donor dinner. By then, they had finished with the speeches, the clapping, the actual dinner, and people had been standing around, talking to donors and players for nearly an hour.
Logan had managed to escape to the side of the room. Now he watched as Finn talked animatedly to a woman, probably about hockey, from the look in his eye. Leo talked quietly with Kasey, Remus, and Lily, who had Harry perched on her hip. Sirius and James were also talking to a donor, having a more serious conversation, it seemed. Sirius looked calm, but Logan knew that he’d be itching to be done with this part of the night. James looked about ready to vibrate through the floor, glancing around, eyes landing on Lily and Harry. The Dumais kids had been growing more and more restless, Marc and Louis shoving each other with their shoulders, before Louis knocked into Celeste, and she chastised them softly. Logan could almost imagine the reprimand, having heard it so many times when he had lived there. Katie was hanging off Pascal’s leg. Pascal rubbed at her back, muttering something down at her. Then brown eyes found his, and he was met with a tornado of an eight-year-old.
“Lo, Lo, Lo, Lo,” Katie said as he picked her up and she giggled. “I’m so bored. Please take us to see more animals! Please, please, please.”
Then the stage lit up once more.
“If everyone could make their way to the auditorium, we’ll have a short video message from our top executive, followed by a cocktail hour.” Logan nearly groaned.
“No more!” Katie cried softly, and Logan had to agree. He glanced over as people started filtering into the auditorium. Would they really miss him in there?
“Katie, go grab your brothers and sister and meet me outside.” Katie excitedly shuffled down from his arms, skipping off to do as she was told. Logan made eye contact with Finn across the room, who was looking around for him. He gestured toward the door, then met Leo’s eyes, who had clearly seen the gesture, as well. They both smiled. As they made their escape, Logan quickly met Dumo’s eye, gesturing to his phone, where he’d sent a quick text.
Making an escape. Taking the kids to see more animals. Let me know if we’re needed.
Pascal looked back at him, giving him a smile, a nod, and then taking Celeste’s hand and guiding her toward the auditorium.
As he made his way out to where the Dumais kids were waiting patiently for them all, looking at a map Adele held, he noticed Finn, now with Harry in his arms.
“Thank the lord we’re escaping, Lo. Didn’t know how much more of that I could take. Picked up this stray little flowerpot on the way out. Thought he might like to escape as well.”
Logan smiled, rustling Harry’s hair, kissing Finn on the cheek and pulling Leo down so he could give him a matching one.
“Surprised you’re joining, Peanut. You’re usually such a rule follower.”
“I’m on Finn with this one. Wasn’t that the cocktail hour? Besides, we’ll be back for the 7:00 silent firework show.” Leo loved his fireworks, especially if they were wild-life friendly. Logan nodded, smiling at him.
“Wouldn’t miss it. We’ve got a good hour and a half.”
Leo moved over to Finn, giving him a kiss on the cheek, tickling Harry’s belly. The two-year-old giggled and launched himself over to Leo’s arms. Leo caught him easily and gave his forehead a kiss.
“Ready to see more animals, Harry?”
“Snates!” Harry cried.
“Oh yeah, Lily made me promise to take him to see the snakes,” Finn said. “She said James refused because ‘Snakes are evil’ and she can’t really stand the sight of them.”
“Well, snakes it is!” Logan said. “That good with you guys?” The Dumais kids all nodded. Louis insisted on seeing the polar bear afterwards, Marc insisted on the monkey house after that (“I have to visit my spider monkey friends!”).
“Sounds like a plan!”
“Follow me!” Adele said, taking off. Katie insisted on getting a piggy-back ride (which, despite his complaints of her getting “too big,” Logan was happy to give before she actually got too big to want them anymore), as the boys and Adele ran ahead toward the reptile house.
YWatching Finn chase after them, darting around strollers and families, Leo talking softly with Harry about snakes next to him, and Katie talking excitedly in his ear, Logan realized that this was the zoo event he had wanted to participate in.
