Since when are OCs invalid? Since when are we not good enough for you to give a chance? Since when are your bad experiences with OCs relevant to the ones who haven’t wronged you? Since when is being oc exempting and unselective supposed to make sense? Since fucking when is it your job to decide if our OCs are developed enough?
OCs are characters of creative minds who want to be in touch with themselves rather than trying to interpret a canon character for themselves. I’ve seen OCs written better than many canon characters out there!
I feel as though this conflict has many aspects that big movements had. Though not as severe, it’s similar. Civil rights movement, women’s movement… Just like them, OC creators are harassed for their OCs. They’re excluded from groups and people. They aren’t considered valid. We fight, trying to make our OCs better known and loved or at least looked at but people are too set on the hatred they have towards them that they simply won’t bat an eye. So all those OCs that support each other, and all the canon character blogs that support OCs and roleplay with OCs and recognize this problem, I thank you. But like the big movements mentioned before, OCs are also in the wrong.
There are OC blogs out there who see themselves as superior. Who shun canon blogs and who discriminate against them. Those are not the ones you should ever look to for OC recognition. And yes, I understand that there are blogs out there that are OC selective… But it’s an OC blog. As confusing and discouraging as that it to me personally, I sort of understand why. I get OC selective at times. I hate Mary-Sues/Gary-Stews because they make role playing hard. They make it not fun and uninteresting. OR if our muses don’t get along or just don’t click, yeah I get selective. But if your OC is new, underdeveloped, and sort of shaky with interaction because you’re trying to get a good idea of them, I will never turn you down.
And yes, I also understand that canon blogs are OC selective because it’s just hard to interact with a not canon character while you’re also trying to rp a canon, that’s completely fine. But never shun OCs. Please support us. Yes, you don’t want to interact with us, but please let the ones that are insecure about their OCs know that they have someone who supports them.
And no, you don’t have to support OCs either.
JUST PLEASE NEVER HATE US. DON’T LET THE HATE SPREAD.
We’re people too. We’re role players. And as if these rp communities are getting toxic enough already…
This isn’t due to a personal experience. This is written because I see OCs and their creators ridiculed and shot down and judged and hated so badly that they leave. I’ve seen great- AMAZING OC blogs get deleted because no one interacted with them or cared. So please, give your nearest OC some love. That mun could probably use it. ❤️
