Here’s a poor quality video from the days before high-definition to commemorate my sadness at the death of Scott Weiland.

STP was the first concert I attended, at age 11, with my cool Aunt Missy at the Illinois State Fair. Purple Tour: 1994, the year I really got into my own music and not just my parents’ and pop.

Meat Puppets and Jawbox opened. We had seats in the last row of the grandstand. I screamed myself horse and badmouthed Jawbox.

I’ll be in mourning, wearing teal eyeshadow like I did to that show.

The first track of the Astral Inter Planet Space Captain Christmas Infinity Voyage bootleg, available for download here. The bootleg has a very Adz-y feel, pretty representative of where Sufjan was musically at the time the EP was recorded. Personally, it’s my favorite of the Christmas EPs (I like it better than Volume 8 on Silver and Gold :) ) Merry Christmas!

SO VERY DC POP-PUNK! Check it out for fun and to feel like a teenager again. It’s a little bit Ted Leo and a little bit At the Drive In with a Les Savvy Fav ‘tude. MLE is an outgrowth of genres that could pass for the original. That’s a compliment.
