Through the use of minimal elements - a translucent layer of diffraction that covers the whole of the Palacio’s glass structure and a mirror that spreads over the floor as well as the sound of her breathing - Kimsooja submerges the visitor in an experience of transfiguration, inviting them to experiment with their mind and their senses and activate their sensorial perceptions and imagination. Who hasn’t had the desire just to be someone else for awhile? Dressing up is a way of creating an alter ego and a second skin which one’s behaviour can be adjusted to. Regardless of the motivating factors which cause somebody to acquire a costume, the main principle remains the same: the civilian steps behind the mask and turns into somebody else. ’Just the Two of Us’ deals with both: the costumes and the people behind them.

The forward direction of light always entices hope and dream. The young girl is always in pursuit of womanly beauty, not knowing womanly beauty is always pursuing her. Her loveliness and the gorgeousness of her reflected light will dance the radiant dance of luminous splendour, resulting in fleeting images that are as ephemeral and enigmatic as the passing shadow of a bird.
