Slytherin!Remus is not what most fic had written. Instead of being super confident, cunning, and “leading the whole Slytherin pack” thing, he prefers staying as background, spending the whole day in the library, or smoking at the astronomy tower or by the greenhouse. He doesn’t want the pure-blood supremacist Slytherin to know his identity.
And that’s how he’s friends with Regulus. Regulus is tired of people watching every single move he makes as the Black family heir. Tired of people jeering at him at Sirius’ shenanigans. He enjoys the comfortable silence while he’s reading at the corner of the library with Remus, enjoys sharing the same sarcastic humour, enjoys the discussion they have over lessons, and the playful duel sparing they always have. Regulus sees Remus as a brother, to replace the one he lost when Sirius decided to leave Grimmauld Place.
It is not that hard for smart and observant Regulus to know Remus’ identity, but it doesn’t change his opinion about him. Regulus, a prodigy in potions, often experiments in making potions to ease or cure Remus’ lycanthropy. Regulus despises the pure-blood supremacist. “Doesn’t need the genius to figure out those idiot guys are never going to be better than half-blood like you or a muggle-born like Evans.” Regulus himself is a genius, seeker, prefect (he follows Remus’ footsteps), and have I mentioned potion prodigy.
And that’s how Remus gets Sirius’ attention. Sirius often eyed Regulus from afar just to make sure that his brother is OK. He always sees his brother together with Remus laughing at whatever Remus’ told him. He sees the way Regulus’ regular Black-heir-stoic-face has gone softer around Remus. Sirius feels that Remus stole Regulus from him, feeding the pure-blood supremacist ideas into Regulus’ head and he hates him.
And there’s the famous dueling club duel between Remus and Sirius. It was mesmerizing that people attending the club at that time will never forget it. All the dueling techniques, combined with strength and speed were shown beautifully. Remus ended up winning the duel as Sirius let his emotion influence his movement.
Sirius can’t take it and he cornered Remus afterward. “Stop poisoning my brother with your pure-blood propaganda!” Remus got provoked, hit Sirius and they got into a fight. “You are the one who are best friends with pure blood Potter and Pettigrew!” “Regulus on the other hand befriended me, a half-br..half-blood!” That’s when Sirius got startled. He didn’t know that Remus is a half-blood. He only knows that Remus’ father used to be very vocal against werewolves. Classic Sirius to jump to a conclusion without rechecking.
And that’s how they get into detention together. Sirius eventually apologizes to Remus and he told Remus that he feels Remus has stolen Regulus from him. Remus hinted to Sirius that that is exactly what Regulus feels every time he sees Sirius and James. Sirius feels guilty about that and asks Remus if is there any way to mend his relationship with Regulus. Remus who knows that Regulus is missing his brother agrees to help Sirius. So they regularly meet to talk about this. Eventually, the relationship between the two Black brothers is getting better.
The more intent meeting between Remus and Sirius the more they realize that they fell for each other. Remus learns about Sirius’ trauma and he doesn’t see Sirius as a shallow person who likes attention, while Sirius sees the kindness behind Remus’ sarcasm. Sirius falls in love deeper after knowing Remus’ real identity, he promises himself to ease Remus’ pain and put more smile on Remus’ sad face. Sirius kisses Remus on his lips one morning after the full moon in the hospital wing, thinking Remus is still asleep. Remus was awakened and startled by the kiss. Sirius then confess his feeling towards his new friend and only receive another kiss as a response.
“I always thought you are smart, but you fell for my idiot brother,” Regulus told Remus when he knows that Remus and Sirius are dating. Regulus smirks when he sees Remus’ face as red as a beetroot. After graduating from Hogwarts, Regulus told Remus that he can be his real brother if he marries Sirius. Regulus then grabs Remus’ shoulder and turns him only to see Sirius already on his knee, holding out a box of a ring to Remus.
