Lanterns, dates, the moon, Ramadan greetings between strangers, Quran playing everywhere, colourful lights in the streets, constant mention of God, forgiveness, warm smiles, busy kitchens, hugs, humility, compassion, generosity, patience, saying “allahuma ini sa-em” when faced by a trial, zakaat, full mosques, humble dinners at the mosque, cultural clothing, joint salaah, universal love, laughter, children insisting to fast, children that fast but have “breaks”, daily Quran recitation, self-reflection, dhikr, afternoon naps, gatherings, family, long nights, hot tea, coffee, sweets, sleepy suhoor, awaiting fajr, solitude, the sound of athaan, the signs of laylatul qadr, the duaa you say everyday before you break your fast, that first sip of water, the tranquility in the air despite the rush, feeling like your soul is at home, feeling proud to be Muslim— just some things I love about this month. What do you love about Ramadan?
