Thank You for the Music

“Only just found it. Apparently the owner is from Italy too, I met him at the farmer’s market a few weeks ago.” Gemma chuckled before taking a small sip. “Not much, really. Just a bunch of little things, you know. They always sneakily pile up until the stack becomes a bit too – unstable, I guess. But it’s nothing I can’t handle.” 

“Well don’t tell anyone about it. I don’t want it to become the new place and then suddenly we can never sit down here.” Macy sighed and looked out the window. The trees were changing and it finally Macy felt like she could take a breath and feel a little bit of calm and peace. “No I understand that.. but I’m glad we’re doing this then. Just having a little moment in the middle of madness. What’s the most unstable?”

“You looking to tone up by lifting some steel beams?” He asked playfully with a small smirk. “Well if you have a gift card to a massage place or if you could just stay in one spot while we talk so I don’t have to move my head, that would be appreciated.”

“I meant for help after you got hurt, do I look like I could help with steel beams?” Macy ginned, “I.. do not have that but I can stand still.”  She pictured him trying to function at his place and couldn’t help but ask. “How are you getting along at home? Like... Can Lis or I help around there at all?” 

“See? I told you this place has the absolute best coffee.” Gemma noted after her first sip of the fresh cup of coffee. It was the closest thing to the coffee she’d been used to, so it had been an immediate win when she found the place. “Figured you could use a good cup.”

“No you’re right. Where have you been hiding this place? I’ve lived here like my whole life.” Macy took another sip and settled into her chair. “You would be correct. But you look like you could too. What’s going on?”

Melody: Can someone tell me what unicorn flavour is? Because I still can't work it out.

“A large coffee coming up,” he nodded for her to follow him. “Just long or a bad kind of long?” Kavan asked always genuinely wanting to know.

Macy gave a thankful little smile and followed him to the counter. “Just long. Busy at work, busy at home, just one of those days where everything falls on the same day.”

Sophia: Didn't know you were THAT interested in my love life 😉 idk where you got the idea that I was seeing someone but I can assure you that I'm single as a pringle. You and Lis are still stuck with me.

Macy: Oh god haha that was for Felicity's dad, but it still stands

“I’m not going to lie to you, Mace. I have not been functioning well. I pulled it lifting shit and work and I thought that I could use the weekend to rest it and be fine. My neck did not go along with that plan.”

“And you didn’t think to say anything or ask for help?” Although, it occurred to her once the words were out, there wasn’t a real reason why he would ask that of her. “How can I help you?”

“You should know me better than that. I don’t believe in middle grounds.”

“No gray area is not where you live.” Macy chuckled. “Are we having fun or are we sad I’m just not entirely sure where we’re living right now.”

“This sounds like you need coffee or alcohol. Which would you like? On me.”

“Oh god a coffee. Definitely a coffee. Thank you, you’re n angel. I am excited to be here, it was just aq long day.”

“So this is your happy face then?”

“It is my... I’m very tired but I’m trying to be energetic but I am happy that I’m here face.”

“Is it me that needs to slow down or do you need to catch up?”

“Can we not meet somewhere in the middle of those options?” 

“Anything I can do to make look like you’re not miserable here?”

“I have never once said that I am miserable.”

I just think that if you're dating someone we should talk about it before they come into Lis's life that's all.

I'm desperate! Someone called in at work and I have to go in and open, but Felicity has a whole day of activities and it's too last minute for my parents. Can you help??

“The coolest one I know,” she told her with a nod. “Oh yeah, you have plenty of time. She’s a good girl and I have faith that she’ll come to you when she’s ready.” Felicity was still a little girl and while she didn’t know the inner workings of her friend’s relationship with her daughter, she’d been around long enough to know that the bond they shared was special. Perhaps not perfect, but special nonetheless. “She does?” The ballerina’s eyes lit up at the comment. “I mean, it depends on the guy. It’s usually nothing crazy. I just don’t need certain energy in my space, you know?”

“Wow that is quite the praise but I’ll definitely take it.” She was sure she wasn’t the coolest or the best, but Macy knew she tried her best and at the end of the day that was what mattered the most. “Of course she does! She’s fascinated by you and she just thinks you’re cool. Which obviously she’s right about.” Macy nodded. “Yeah absolutely I do. So there’s no one coming over to the space currently?” 

As Gemma listened closely to the other’s story, the name she mentioned stood out. Of course, there were probably hundreds of Matts in the city alone. And the one she’d invited to come along to this very sleepover with her couldn’t possibly be the one she was talking about, right? “I can’t even imagine how that must be like for either of you. At least he’s making an effort, right? Or would you have preferred him to just stay out of your lives?” Gemma wondered out loud as she took the cocktail from the other. “Salute.” 

“It was stressful.” Macy admitted. “ I mean was it easier before he showed up wanting to be in her life? Emotionally, absolutely. But if Felicity is happy, I’m happy. And so far, she seems to be adjusting fine but I keep waiting for the other shoe to drop because it definitely always does. It’s all complicated” Maybe she should get the two of them into therapy. Macy took a long sip of her drink and sighed. “I needed that.”
