I'll use Japanese as an example, but I think the same of every non-English term that follows the same pattern.
“Foxgender”, a gender connected to foxes. This is okay.
“Kitsunegender”, a gender connected to foxes. Why is kitsune there? There's no Japanese association outside of the word being inserted, and foxgender holds the same definition.
It's a heavy pattern with the Japanese language. I don't think I need to explain where it comes from, lol. When I spoke with someone privately, they offered the explanation of “translating terms to one's native language”.. but this is a completely different thing. When you translate terms, you don't only translate half of it, and you don't go out of your way to make a coining post as if it's a new thing.. it would be as silly as me recoining bisexual because the word is in English.
Making Japanese exclusive terms from pre-existing ones is acceptable. If someone were to make “kitsunegender” and add “exclusive to Japanese people” at the end, it's more understandable. But these terms are meant for everyone, so what's the point of including the language other than for aesthetics..? When “recommended pronouns” on posts used to be a thing, they'd somehow link back to Japan. It nullifies the “it's just a coincidence!” excuse. It makes it so much harder to search for terms, too, even if you don't want Japanese exclusive ones.
It's weird this only happens to moe stuff like animals and anime tropes, right? You'd never see “sakegender” floating around like that, despite alcohol being more relevant to culture than cats, lol. I think using Japanese to push a “cute” term (outside of culture) is disrespectful, and boiling it down to a “cute” language is fetishising.
Using non-English words in terms is okay, I know Mason of MOGAIblr fame does this a lot. I don't have an issue with that. There's a difference between the occasional Japanese word and a coiner managing to include Japan/Japanese culture in nearly every term if they aren't Japanese. From an outsider's point of view it can seem like an overreaction, but on the scale it happens it can make it very nauseating to go looking for cultural terms, so I don't think calling out weird behaviour here is an overreaction at all.
