i swear the first time i read about laika my heart broke, she looked so happy in every single photo that exists of her. i hope that in some other universe, she gets to run around chasing planet patterned squeaky toys. or that she somehow wormholed into another dimension where she got saved.

For example, we can assume how simon and grace meeting went in the original universe, but how would it go in the swap au? How would grace react? How would simon handle finding another human thousands of light years away from home? How would they act around each other? Would grace be wearing the harness too? A lot of important questions!

Ohoho, I'll try to keep my rambling short, since i havent fully thought through everything yet. its all just vague vibes swirling in my head For some bg, Simon is a pilot, who was used as a scapegoat for a crime his superior conducted. Everyone knew he was used as a cover up, but no one did anything, and he was scheduled for execution when Ava pulled him out last minute to have him be the pilot when the phm boom happened but took out the pilot instead (i have no idea how astronauting works, but my thought is that simon is trained in piloting a very specific kind of ship that basically no one else knows, and just happens to be super similar to Hail Mary.) So he's still untrusting, angy. Ryland on the other hand is still a scientist, where a miscalculation in an experiment resulted in mass casualty and got him landed in jail. He teaches the children of other inmates and thats where he got the tree seed. Eventually he's made to help COI on some sciency stuff as community service. Then Eva chucked him in the iron lung and said do you best, science boy. Grace would be like, wow, my 3 seconds of brain activity sure is long :') He's overly trusting and fascinated by everything since, well, he thinks his brain cooked everything up. Simon would be like, dawg that is not human, wtf?? Adrian wld go, sure sound human to me. So Simon treat Ryland like a weird funky humanoid alien that's either really good at acting non threatening, or have some brain damage.

The initial dynamic wld lowkey be like how someone afraid of animals feeds a very friendly stray, simon super cautious like grace's side mouth will spontaneously start chomping at him, while grace is like :D what a nice person my brain hallucinated up.

Grace is 100% wearing the harness (I drew it under his sweater but its not super clear)
