Like, there’s every chance that Sword is mortal. But. Suspend your disbelief. Imagine he won’t die of old age. And he DOESN’T KNOW.

Medkit’s getting old. Sword just turned 30. He still feels so young. Isn’t aging supposed to start taking an effect by now?

He turns 50, and his horns don’t go gray. Rocket’s horns are gray. Medkit is deteriorating quicker than ever. Sword still looks like a teen.

Medkit is gone. Rocket is going. Sword still feels young and spry.

At first he thinks he just got “lucky” (though having to watch his loved ones go makes him feel more unlucky than anything). He’s won the aging lottery! No gray horns? Silver lining, right?

But the other phighters grow old and die too. Soon he’s all that’s left. It’s becoming apparent that something unnatural is happening. Another generation comes and grows and goes and Sword is still sprightly and colorful. Why won’t he die yet? Why is this happening?

Venomshank finally takes pity on him, having realized much earlier what’s going on. Sits Sword down, tells him something must’ve happened. He must be special. He must be immortal too, by some glitch of nature. Sword doesn’t really know what to say.

He kind of tries not to believe it. He’ll die any day now, right?

But it keeps going. It keeps going and he doesn’t know what to do. He can’t handle this.
