“ i knew it ! ” he doesn’t move from his spot where he’s curled up with madison but he does lift a hand to point at pete. he knew the man far too well for him to ever hide anything and when it came to sydney, colson had always wondered how long it would take. but he knew pete had to figure it out for himself. had to sort the way he was feeling about all of it. especially after the whole ghosting thing. he eyed the back of pete’s head up somewhat before using his foot to nudge at him. for now, the blunt was entirely forgotten by him at this point. his mind was clearly elsewhere.

“ i knew you were thinking about syd. ” he nudges him again with his toes and smirks lazily; arms gently tightening around madison as he nuzzled into her further. this was the happiest he’d felt in ages; cozied up to her with pete hanging out. it felt like old times. and it felt perfect. “ i haven’t heard from her either. fuck, yeah, did something happen to her too ? god. there’s somethin’ in the water in hollywood, i swear to god. ”

For a fleeting peaceful moment, Pete thought he’d got away with his digging when Madison answered genuinely - blissfully unaware of the real reason for him asking until Colson’s reaction had him wishing he could retract ever bringing her into conversation. “You don’t know shit”, he shook his head incessantly, like a crook who’d just been caught in 4k. In hindsight, he should’ve known Col would be able to see right through him - Pete had had a girlfriend when they both used to hang with Syd, and the whole world and their gran’s knew he was extremely happy in the relationship, but had that stopped him from acknowledging Syd was exactly the type of girl he’d go for if he were single? Come on, he was only human. 

“Nah, nothing’s happened to her, I just…wanted to know, y’know? Because I’m a good friend and I…care about shit. I know she had to have been effected by everything too. Coming at me with that accusing tone, dude. For that, you get the stinging roger”. Once again trying to distract with the the joint, Pete passed the end that nobody ever wanted his pals way, more so so he didn’t have to get up and dispose of it over anything else. 

Glancing between the two of them, Madison’s eyes narrowed a bit at the New Yorker she’d grown up just a borough away from. She was high but not that high. 

“That’s funny...you didn’t ask me if I’d heard from Alexa...and she’s even closer to Jake than Syd.” She pointed out, as if playing the bad cop to Colson’s good. The pieces were starting to float together amidst the drifting tides of her mind. She remembered how Pete had been like a kid with a schoolyard crush around Syd when they all used to hang out together. But in fairness, if she had to explain her type on paper, at least when it came to girls, she’d just pull out a picture of Sydney. She kinda figured everyone turned into a lovestruck school girl around the blonde. Not just because of her looks, but because of how fun she was to be around. Because you never left a hangout with Syd feeling drained, only energized. Even more attractive than all that, Sydney shared Pete’s sick sense of humor and her wit was impossible to match. The improvised lines she herself came up with on the set of Downfalls High were just as iconic as the script itself. Madison had to admit, if anyone could handle Pete Davidson, it was Syd the kid herself. Brushing her cold little toes over Col’s leg, clad only in the black nail polish she’d packed in her bag, she looked up at him with her best bambi eyes and mumbled pathetically like a toddler, clearly hoping for room service. “Munchies?” 

syd: don’t tell anyone i said this but vegas can suck a dick. i get the heebie jeebies when i’m there.

syd: ahh i could do with one of those, too. have you guys hung with pete lately? the 4 of us should head out one of these nights. one of those classic friday night fool arounds that we’re so known for. it would do my soul good.
