hmm this is gonna be weird but can you tell me why the whole fandom likes the Those fic? can u like, make me read it? without spoiling a lot. and why is it so long? i've been trying to get myself to read it but it's kind of too weird?? L seems kinda ooc? i bet the writing is great and I'd probably love it like everyone else but I can't start it for some reason. it's the longest fic I've ever seen. and is it still on going? i am scared but willing
Well, I hope you donāt feel forced to read it because itās totally fine if you donāt like it. No matter how beloved a story is, itās always also a matter of personal preference if itās something for you or not. ā¦But I also know that a lot of people only started to fall in love with the story after, like, three or four chapters.Ā
Anyway, I can definitely tell you why I like so much (I think I talked about this before somewhere, but oh well):
Itās incredibly well-written
Thatās just a fact. Not only is the story really engaging and filled with so many details that you feel like you know every character personally, it also has a very consistent, unique and - for me - addicting writing style. Itās certainly not everybodyās taste, but I donāt think anyone could deny that the technique that is used is at the very least very solid. (You need to be pretty skilled to make a first-person narrative work, imo.) Iām a bit of a book nerd (snob? hopefully not) and I have no problem with admitting that the quality of āThoseā is higher than a lot of actual published writing I came across. It doesnāt only stand out when it comes to fanfics, but when it comes to literature in general.
Itās incredibly long, yes, and I love it
I canāt tell you why exactly, obviously (because Iām not the author) (you can ask her that and other questions yourself if you want, her username on tumblr is @youcannotrelight) (I think the fic was originally meant to be a lot shorter) but Iād say thatās actually one of the reasons Iām so in love with that story. You just start to feel so close to the characters, especially to Light and L, that itās easy to get strongly attached to them. Also, what makes the story so long are especially two factors a) thereās just a lot of stuff going on all the time and b) Light loves his long-winded internal monologues. I hope you like them too, because thatās one of my favourite aspects of āThoseā:
It is weird, yes
It is. In the best way possible. Like, the very concept of āThoseā (which Iām sure you know by now) is so comical and unique, that I pretty much loved the story before I even read it. Donāt be afraid of the weirdness. Let it into your heart.
Itās hilarious
When it comes to slapstick humour especially, itās one of the funniest stories Iāve ever read. Really, it might not seem like it at first but I canāt count how many times this story made me laugh almost hysterically. (Matt (āJeevasā) is in there and one of the most amusing characters for sure!)
Certain characters might be OOC but
Theyāre still extremely well-written. I didnāt know what to make of Those!L at first either but the more you read, the more you start to think that thatās exactly how L would have turned out to be under different circumstances. Heās justā¦ insatiable in a different kind of way, he has no Watari to spoil him and the nature of his job doesnāt allow him to isolate himself like he did in canon. Also, a few chapters in youāre starting to realise that heās way more complex than you might think at first. Way more vulnerable, with an interesting backstory that explains even more.
The entire aesthetic
Another personal thing. I love politics, I love gritty, insane, mundane and mystery mixed into one giant cocktail, I love Lās dumb lawyer anecdotes. Just look at some of the art this fic inspired!
Lightās and Lās relationship
Itās like an accident you canāt bring yourself to look away from. Itās horrible and heart-wrenching, soul-crushing andā¦ why do I even like their relationship? I canāt tell you exactly, but they deserve each other. This fic made me scared of the concept of soulmates because itās just that intense. Itās like a love letter to how compatible and incompatible Lawlight is at the same time. But I donāt think you have to already ship Lawlight to get pulled in.
Also, āscared but willingā is exactly how I feel with every new chapter, so youāre already on the right path if you want to become a fan as well, haha. (And yes, itās still going on)

Those vs canon lawlight
i tried to make a quick comparison pic since i had a mini discussion over how i draw them šø
L's difference is obvious (hair style - age) but realy special kudos to those who recognise that those!Light had shorter hair/showing his ears.
he's also older than canon lito by a few years but not obvious enough + he's not a dn holder so his expressions is closer to canon pre-dn litošø
