Mahjong Chest.

This commissioned piece houses 2 drawers for all the mahjong tiles, 4 separate chip trays, and an additional drawer which contains a compartment for the dices, wind indicator, and spare tiles. 

Made from walnut and maple. Dovetailed drawers, birch burl lid with brass and goat leather. Finished with shellac and hard wax oil. 

I spent countless days and nights thinking about the design and making sure that everything fits perfectly together. Another challenge was also making sure that I made enough allowances for wood movement. Every step was tough, but very rewarding and a learning experience for me.
