👀 + Describe the most disastrous birthday you've ever had.
A heavy sigh, reading glasses coming off, head falling back to allow her hair to fall out of her face. "Take a seat." She gesture to the plush dusty rose chair across from her couch, leaning forward to set down her wine glass. "It wasn't the event itself that was disastrous, but the following events that it lead to."
"The year is 2022. It's my twenty-fifth birthday. I am just... swimming in money because my OnlyFans was wildly successful that year since I started doing collabs, I had scholarships and other funding so a lot of what I was using for tuition became just," She gestures. "Extra cash to tuck away or spend. Now, I did save a lot of it, invested, stored away, it's how I had my down payment for LA and then eventually my place here, anyway, sorry I'm off topic." She waves away the talk of her finances, not meaning to brag but it was important to the story. She had the cash at the time and that's what lead to this. "Point is, because I was financially doing well I had some extra cash, was invited to a lot of higher end parties, and it was my quarter life crisis, and the first time I not only had time, but a cushion to do fun things. Now, I love emo music, I wanted to be Hayley Williams or Tay Jardine so bad when I was a teenager, and after some plotting, I decide 'hey, let's do an emo nite for my birthday!'" Arms come up in a shrug, taking a swig from her glass before setting it back down.
"In hindsight? Great party. Would absolutely do it again but better. My boyfriend at the time helped create a few cocktails, a good friend of mine, Val, helped decorate and pitched in for the DJ, my boyfriends friend Mack was doing fake tattoos, it was honestly a really good party. Everyone was dancing, singing, had dressed up, they were having fun... Well," She nods. "Everyone that showed up." She shakes her head. "While it wasn't empty and my closest circle and then some showed up, I had promo'd this thing pretty hard and it was also open invite, so when the night kept going and people I knew that I cared for weren't there? I was surprised... Hurt even. Time goes on and I try and figure out what happened and it turns out, this fuckin rich kid was also having a birthday." She starts in.
"Now, media portrays New York City Upper East Side kids as these spoiled brats with nothing but privilege and it turns out most of them are ten times worse; and that was the case with this girl in particular. And, oh my god, okay, the thing that pissed me off the most was I had started sending out invites and promo for my birthday weeks in advance, almost a month if not longer. She hadn't even thought of having a birthday bash until the week of. And then, when I confronted her about not sending out my promos with her peers, because her daddy got her a job at this PR firm and she was in charge of event promotion, she gave me this bullshit response and lied to my face, my face, saying she did send out the promo it just must not have been well received, but hers? One that had barely been thought of and no effort was put in? It got tons of feedback and was even front page. Make that shit make sense." She rolls her eyes again, the disgust on her face at the abuse of position. "And I know damn well she was lying because I followed both the print advertisement and the socials, never once saw it up unless the social media manager reposted my post."
"Anyway," She huffs, getting back on track. "This whole thing blows up on like local social media and a whole slander campaign starts against me, all sorts of accusations, to the point where it actually divided the city like, obviously not on the grand scale, but amongst our peers and the surrounding networks. It was crazy." She reaches out and finishes off the glass. "If they weren't on my side and also coming out with receipts of the events, they were on hers saying I'm a nobody and expected too much, trying to gaslight others into thinking the actual evidence wasn't evidence. Her dad got involved at one point to put a stop to it and we both got served a cease and desist order. I was blacklisted from a lot of places for awhile, but my relationship was crumbling, friends that I still had were leaving, and I decided it was time to go. I left for LA shortly after everything calmed down and... Now we're here." Mouth twists off to the side, longingly looking at the glass and remembering a life she had once pictured with people that she no longer speaks to.
"I probably could've handled it better, it wasn't a big deal, but I just hate people that think they can get away with whatever they want and whoever they hurt in the process. But... Yeah. My birthday destroyed an entire city's social-sphere."
