hi!!! tyrants is centered around edwin booth, and discusses the responsibility we bear to one another, family, and country. the full staged reading is available on youtube!! it goes without saying that alexander sage oyen's music is incredible - double casting in this show is also handled so well, for me it's truly a masterclass in writing. it's been my favorite show for a long while and i'm so happy it's being seen by people.
anyway tyrants!adam is depicted very differently than in real life - ofc i don't condone some of his acts, especially the lawsuit, but i think in his early days he was truly just a man who loved too loudly. a man who needed to love and be loved, but he could never be loved the way he needed them to. in letters he used to call edwin "my prince" and "the man i love most" until edwin got engaged. i truly have so much to say about adam he's so fascinating to me
wow, i honestly did not know about the connection between adam badeau and edwin booth! it didn’t register in my mind that they could somehow be connected, i need to learn more about them!
what i know about badeau is just how he fits into ulysses grant’s life & that he’s just another one of the dudes i need to beat up for taking advantage of grant,,

oh adam and edwin were very connected - part of edwin's rise to fame was bcs adam wrote really good reviews about him, even tutored him, getting private boxes and everything. they were really close. adam published an article where he went to tudor hall with edwin and fell asleep in his arms (Night with the Booths, the Vagabond, 1859). he went on honeymoon with edwin and mary devlin for two weeks. when he was injured in the war he was sent to edwin's home, both edwin and wilkes nursed him. (all of this is mentioned in Edwin Booth On and Off the Stage: Personal Recollections, 1893)
adam's also connected to james h wilson if you didn't know!!! there's an article about their relationship here - i love reading about queer stories in history, a great reminder of how we've always been here!!
