This summer, LVEJO #YouthLeaders conducted truck counting and air monitoring. According to the Respiratory Health Association, approximately 20,000 people in Illinois have asthma attacks every year. We have schools and residencies in close proximity to industry.. Our children's developing lungs at Zapata elementary are breathing in exhaust from 1.3 trucks/minute, on average! _______ Come learn more about the work the young people did this summer at our final presentations, tomorrow. We'll be at the CC’s Little Village Boys & Girls Club, on 28th & Ridgeway from 4:30-7pm! See you there!

Look at our new garden babies! Last week, we were lucky enough to have bees from Westside Bee Boyz, LLC. Thad installed honey bees with a Summe Solstice Queen. She's born right after summer solstice and her eggs are for the winter! Too cool 😎🐝 ______ Our work in the Semillas de Justicia Community Garden is so intergenerational! THIS SATURDAY! ______ Our annual State of the Park event is coming up! ______ Come find out what we're working on and how YOU can support! This is a familial event so bring your friends and family. Yes, it’s free! ______ There will be music, gifts, food, piñatas, and MORE! ______ We'll be at La Villita Park, August 11th from 11am to 2pm. These are the 11 interns working with us this summer, and we’re super excited about the awesome work they’re doing. ______ Our #NoDieselLV youth group includes Lulu, Sydney, Gabe, and Daniel. They’re conducting air monitoring and truck counting and much more to fight polluters in La Villita. _______ Our #Brownfield youth group includes Cindy, Marisol, Maria, and Jocelyn. They’re surveying street vendors and locally owned corner stores to know what kind of produce folks need for the cooperative farm we’re conceptualizing. ______ Our #CommunityCenter youth group includes LaVondra, Melanie, and Myiah. They’re surveying community members around what they’d like to see in a new community center! ______ Stay updated with our work through social media! The 31st St. Bus needs our help! The pilot program that started in September of 2016 has been ineffective as it only runs Monday through Friday 10 am to 7 pm and doesn't go to Mercy Hospital, let alone the beach. It also only runs every 30 minutes! Currently, the pilot will end on August 31st! _______ Help Bridgeport Alliance deliver 1,000 petitions to CTA for their next board meeting by 8/15 (canvassing: https://www.facebook.com/events/825642694491555/). _______ They are asking that folks call @chicagocta (CTA) and ask they support our bus line!
