"Yes?"

"We're going to make it."

Arthur swallowed past the lump in his throat. When he spoke again, his voice was rough, soft.

"Is that right?"

Sal nodded.

"Whatever they throw at us, whatever happens, we're going to make it. We know you're scared."

He laughed quietly.

"I am, too, I guess."

"Are you?"

"Yeah, but..."

He looked down at his brothers and sisters. "Worth it. All of it."

Arthur watched his son closely.

"Even with...?"

"Worth it." Sal repeated. [...]

"Linus told me something once, and I think about it a lot. He said it's okay to not be okay, so long as it doesn't become all we know."

"He's right," Arthur said.

"Maybe you should remember that sometimes," Sal said. "Might help."

Arthur snorted in surprise.

"Is that right?"

"Yes," Sal said before yawning, the back of his wrist against his mouth.

"Besides, we have one thing the government doesn't. And it's going to change everything."

"What's that?" Arthur asked as Sal closed his eyes.

"What do we have?"

His son whispered two words before drifting off to sleep.

"Each other."
