The awesome @luxsidius gifted me a copy of Life is Strange, so that’s gonna be my next weekly Let’s Play series!

On January 16th, from 3:00pm MST - 9:00pm MST, I will be streaming the first part of a Let’s Play of Life Strange on my Twitch channel. Subsequent streams will be held weekly from hereonout until the game is finished.

These videos will not be publicly archived! Full, unedited versions of streams will be uploaded to my Patreon immediately after their conclusions. If you are not a Patron, you will be able to view the streams after their public YouTube releases during the week after the stream.

Vaporwave is a genre of electronic music that (usually) relies heavily on the splicing and remixing of the sights and sounds of the 80s and 90s (such as music, radio, advertisements, technology, and even anime of the era.) The general ‘aesthetic’ of Vaporwave (both visually and musically) heavily carries the feeling of a sort of broken, capitalist techno-dystopia if one were to happen in those decades of time. Marble statues and kanji/hirigana became popular additions to the aesthetic due to the massive popularity of Macintosh Plus’s album Floral Shoppe.

It’s basically electronic music made by and aimed towards kids who grew up in the 80s/90s, and it generally evokes a weird sense of intense nostalgia for most of us who enjoy it. A lot of Vaporwave artists even go as far as releasing copies of their music on cassette tapes that contain bonus tracks that don’t appear in their digital releases. The rare ones often go for a ton of money.

It’s definitely not for everyone and it definitely doesn’t evoke the same response in every person who hears it, but I really do adore it because it just clicks for me for some reason. My love for it used to be ironic but the more I experience it the deeper it seems to resonate with me.

I know I’ve got a bit of an axe to grind, I guess, as a “card-carrying member” of the 80′s/retro scene. Vaporwave was born out of a vague ironic criticism of 80′s culture, and Synthwave was born out of an earnest love for it. There are plenty of artists who do both and don’t really care about the distinction, while others are firmly cemented in one and will never migrate to the other.

Also, Vaporwave, as I understand it, began as something of a joke/criticism, deliberately akin to Nightcore, but instead of becoming more humorous as it plunged ahead, it somehow became more deliberate and earnest which is, whatever, I guess.

Your first reflex is to flinch, of course. Your second is to touch your hand to your mouth; you find a smudge of scarlet when you withdraw your fingers.

“Aw, did I nick you again?” Kisame mutters, low-voiced and pseudo-concerned as he moves his mouth down your neck.

“Like you didn’t know,” you say, irritated. “If this keeps happening, you’re getting muzzled.”

He pulls back from you and swipes his tongue across the blood on his lips.

“If I get a muzzle, you get a leash.”

The tone of his voice makes you speechless, but his mouth is there to help you find your words again.
