“I don’t care what people are saying, I’m not the informant.” It didn’t matter whether or not Cal was telling the truth. He was the newest one on the force, and all his colleagues (especially the humans) were suddenly giving him shifty stares. He’d managed to escape to the diner for a cup of coffee and some fries, but as it turned out, he was getting stares there too. “What? Don’t believe me? I don’t give a shit.”
LUX WAS UNNERVED. It was easy to be when something like this happened. So maybe it had been a human. It could just as easily be her next time, picked off like a tick because she didn’t belong to the pack. Lux had never felt quite as vulnerable as she did now. “No, that’s not it. I’m fucking freaking out.” Lux’s otherwise blank expression was betrayed by the sheer panic in her eyes. “Sorry if I’m acting like an idiot, but I... don’t know. I’m seriously sorry if people are giving you shit.”
