It’s stupid how vehemently some people deny the effect black music had on all of the music currently running on the waves. black music is the blueprint of most of modern pop, rnb (duh), hiphop, rap… the list goes on. and when you go back to studying the OGs, when you go wayyyy back to Ma Rainey, to Big Mama Thornton, to Skip James, Buddy Guy, Bessie Smith, Louis Armstrong, Duke Ellington…. then you understand what music really means. I’m begging people to start studying music. Really studying it. Not just classical, or folk, but study black music. It’s one of the purest form of beauty I know.
