Valko invited you to one of his important business parties. He planned on introducing you as his partner to his business associates. He brought you an outfit that matched your eyes, along with some jewelry he knew would complement it. His suit was a similar color to yours. They looked like the perfect couple.
The driver parked outside the event venue, and Valko pulled you to his side, whispering into your ear. "If anyone says anything, come to me. Don't try to deal with it on your own. I've got you, little wolf." He kissed your head gently before moving to exit the car. He turned to your side and held the door open for you. You stepped out, smiling warmly at him. He put his arm out for you to take it before walking towards the entrance.
As soon as the light of the venue hit your eyes, you flinched slightly. Your eyes adjusted to the overbearing lights, and the sight made you blink a few times. There were so many people. It was almost overwhelming. Valko's arm slipped from yours, wrapping around your waist. He gave you a firm, reassuring squeeze. Your eyes met his, and he smiled at you. He leaned down to kiss your head one last time before finally walking in.
Many greeted him as soon as they saw him. He would nod back at them before turning to you.
"This is my lover," he'd say to each person who approached him. "I figured I'd introduce them to my future business partners." You would nod and greet each person he introduced you to. Most of them greeted you with respect, while others looked down on you. You didn't come from a wealthy background, and it seemed as though everyone noticed it immediately.
Valko went on about some business dealings with a group of people who stopped to talk to him, using words you weren't quite familiar with. You quietly slipped away. You didn't go far, just towards the table with all the sweets. You spotted some chocolate and smiled, knowing Valko would be all over this table if he knew there was chocolate here. You grabbed one for yourself, reaching for another one before someone spoke up.
"Oh, it stinks," a man nearby said. He immediately turned to look at you, a slight smirk on his face. "Has someone passed gas? This is why we shouldn't let certain… people into these parties."
"Excuse me?" you spoke up, your eyebrows furrowing at the absurd accusation.
Valko's ears caught the conversation, his gaze snapping towards you and the man. He gritted his teeth before excusing himself from the conversation he was just having. He quickly exchanged pleasantries before speeding towards your side. He stopped right in front of you, giving the man a tense smile.
"I can assure you, sir," he started, his voice firm. "That my partner here was not the one who passed gas. I would know. We live together, after all."
Your face immediately fell. You stared at Valko in disbelief before covering your face with your hands. The people around fell silent, some of them quietly chuckling. You prayed a hole appeared in the ground and swallowed you whole, or that someone broke in and made a scene so that people would remember that instead of this.
"Ah-" the man said, his face flushed pink from embarrassment. "I… apologize, Mr. Ao. It seems I was gravely mistaken."
"Yeah," Valko's smile was almost killer. "You were." He turned back around to you, blinking at the sight of your own flushed face. He tilted his head, removing your hands from your face. You glared up at him, an expression that clearly said We'll talk later. He blinked two times before gulping.
Valko booked a hotel nearby and gave the driver the address. The car ride was so silent that you could hear a pin drop. He was anxiously staring out the window. He replayed the night over and over in his mind, wondering what he'd done or said wrong. You, on the other hand, were planning ways to murder him in his sleep.
Once in the safety of the room, he shed his suit jacket. He folded it and set it on a chair. When he turned around, he was met with your very angry, very embarrassed face.
"What?" he asked, his hand settling on your waist. "Did I do something wrong today?"
"Yes," you answered, exasperated. "Why the hell would you say that?! In front of all those people?!" You gently but firmly pushed his hand away from your waist.
"Say what?" His head tilted to the side. He looked genuinely confused, and that only infuriated you even more.
"That you know how my farts smell like! Seriously, who even says something like that in public?!" You huffed in frustration, shedding your own clothes in favor of the towel nearby. "You know what, forget it. I'm taking a shower. Don't you dare follow me."
You stormed off into the bathroom. He stared at you, still very confused. He chuckled softly. He waited a few more minutes before shedding his own suit, wrapping a towel around his waist. He rolled his shoulders, preparing himself to face you again.
The bathroom was a little humid from the steam of the tub. He found you with half of your face submerged in the water. He smirked before pulling you up, settling himself behind you in the tub. He pulled you back into his arms, nuzzling into the back of your neck.
"Are you still mad?" He asked, his voice a soft, intimate rasp. When he was met with silence, he sighed. He nudged his nose against your neck, taking a deep breath in. He closed his eyes, the water sloshing around the pair as he shifted slightly.
"Forgive me?" he whispered, pressing gentle kisses to your neck. He trailed them down to your shoulder, his arms tightening around your middle. "I didn't mean to embarrass you, but I couldn't let my heart be humiliated that way. Not in front of all those people."
"You literally humiliated me even more by saying you knew what my farts smell like."
"It's true," he fought back. He gently nibbled on the crook of your neck. "I know every single scent of yours. Even the less convenient ones."
They fell back into silence. Valko sighed, tugging you closer, holding you tighter. He didn't push anymore. He moved to help wash you, his hands working wonders on your skin. He gently massaged shampoo into your scalp, ensuring all the grime of the day washed away with his tender touch. It was hard to stay mad at him when he tended to you so.
Once you were both out of the tub, he dried your hair. You closed your eyes as the hair dryer whirred in the silent room. He massaged oils he requested into your scalp, the ones he knew you used to take care of your hair.
He tugged you back towards him and tried one last time.
"Come on," he grumbled, lying back with you on top of him. "You can't be mad at me forever." He pouted playfully, nudging his nose against you again. "I won't say something like that again. I promise."
You fought against him for a few seconds before sighing and melting into his arms. He smirked, knowing he'd won. He pressed small kisses to your forehead.
"Whatever," you breathed, a yawn interrupting your sentence. "Don't ever do that again. I swear, next time you embarrass me like that, I'm going to bury you alive."
"I'd like to see you try," he chuckled. He pulled the covers over both of them, tucking you closer to him.
"Don't test me. I'm serious, Valko," you rebutted, though it lost its weight as your eyes slowly drifted shut.
"Yeah, yeah. Whatever you say, little wolf," he murmured. His rough hand began rubbing circles on your back, his other arm pulling you impossibly closer. "Sleep now. It's been a long day for both of us."
The peaceful silence of the room enveloped them. The moonlight shone through the curtains, slightly illuminating the room. They lay tangled in the sheets together. The world around them settled as the night wore on. Valko's arms never let go of you.
