i can't really explain it but yn and reader are two completely different people
So uhm... Fanfic writer here. (I have the 70k+ words to prove it.)
The difference is the way society molded it.
are ppl fr out here trying to rewrite history just cuz they personally don’t relate to a particular type of Y/N that loads of other ppl may relate to/see themselves in???🫩🫩
(not necessarily referring to u btw ndoesart)
Y/N fics are still great in my opinion. They can still apply to a lot of people!
As I said, people just have different writing styles. Some hate the "Y/N" some love it. It all depends on the reader and author's taste. People just look down on Y/N as it's had some... Interesting fics...
(Oh thank you. I was mini panicking when I got the notification. Just wanted to point out things.)
As someone who has been reading xReader fics since 2017 (thats 10 whole years holyyyy)...
People who use Reader or anything other than (Y/N) and brag about it and put down the usage of (Y/N), it really rubs me the wrong way.
Like its okay if you dont like it, but you go out of your way to imply that works that use it are cringe or lesser in quality.
From my observation as well, some people who use Reader or any iteration seems like they dont even like the xReader genre or are ashamed of it, and its VERY noticable in their writing, speaking again as a reader.
I read on wattpad, tumblr, quotev, and ao3, all of which have good and varied xReader fics using (Y/N), you barely have to even try in order to find. Yes, someones OCs or author inserts gets in, but it also appears in other iterations of it like Reader. Its so easy to ignore though and its so few.
The oc ones get in bc of a mentality i've heard plenty of times, that xReaders should be bland and boring to appeal to everyone. So when there is a good xReader with personality, people demand they change it to an xOC for their enjoyment. These people either have only read a handful of these fics and think they're an expert and can boss these writers around what THEY believe an xReader should and shouldn't be, or people that despise the genre altogether for reasons like "its uncreative, just make an oc, here let me show you how its done :) ". Either that, or the writer just wants attention i think.
Kinda reminds me of this pic. People who carved a space for the xReaders genre despite it being a weird and uncool to most, are now being dragged down and labeled cringe by new "Reader" writers, manifesting in the (Y/N) hate train. Its frustrating to watch. You're allowed to feel however you want, but putting down others work looks gross.
Im sorry if my english is bad, but i hope i got my point across. Again, no hate to you or anyone in particular, just frustration.
Also, (Y/N) is a name given under the umbrella of xReaders/Reader-Inserts. It has always been the popular go-to as far as i recall. Not sure why you think those two are seperate types.
