“thank you,” rafael laughed, leaning over to pluck a fry off of jamie’s plate as he took a seat across from him his friend. allowing a smile to settle across his face, rafael finished the fry- before moving on to the items on his own plate. “so, how’ve you been?” he finally broke the silence, a small smile appearing on his face as he lifted his head to look at jamie. as alpha, raf knew it was his responsibility to check in on the members of his pack. and with everything going on, it was now more important than ever. @bythemccn​

“hey man,” rafael greeted xavier with a large smile, and a somewhat nervous chuckle as he placed his hand on the other male’s shoulder before taking a seat next to him. as pack leader, rafael felt that it was his duty to check in on the members of his pack at regular intervals, and with everything that had happened, he knew that it was more important than ever. “how are you?” he asked, his smile slowly disappearing as he tilted his head to the side, patiently waiting for the other to respond. he didn’t say it, but he hoped that his hand on the other’s shoulder and his facial expression were enough to show that he cared about xavier and what he was going through. @xavy​

rafael knew this conversation would happen eventually, he just hoped it would be later rather than sooner, that way he’d have an opportunity to figure out what he wanted to say. he’d been robbed of sixteen months that could’ve been spent trying to find a way to apologize to landon, of course, that paled in comparison to being robbed of sixteen months of ones life. he had no idea where to begin, they’d been through so much together, more than most people experienced in a lifetime and they were just teenagers. but that didn’t give him an excuse, he’d killed landon, that fact was clear as day. it didn’t matter if he was possessed, he was still responsible. “landon,” he sighed, as he reached up to scratch the back of his neck, “i don’t even know if i want to go to college,” he admitted, for once telling the truth.

it wasn’t exactly a well kept secret that rafael had gone out of his way to avoid both hope and landon since they had woken up, in fact, it was rather obvious. so obvious, in fact, that rafael had received plenty of unsolicited advice about how to handle the situation. but preferring to solve his own problems, he had respectfully declined, instead choosing to hide out until he figured out a solution. it was unfortunate, that hope found him so quickly, a soft sigh escaping his lips as he moved his backpack to make room for her. his problems with hope were complicated to say the least, and as far as he was concerned, he owed it to landon to stay away from her, especially when he was the one responsible for landon’s death. “i guess,” he responded, rather flippantly, a poor attempt at conveying disinterest, when it was the opposite of what he felt. “at least i wasn’t stuck in wolf form this time,” he laughed, a feeble attempt at a joke. 

it was no secret that rafael had been avoiding spending any time in their room, opting to crash on an old bean bag in the old mill, it was far from comfortable but it had allowed him to avoid facing landon. it wasn’t that he wanted to avoid his friend, except, it was exactly that. he had killed landon, he’d stabbed him with an arrow- landon had been dead for well over a year. to say he was ashamed was an understatement. he had been counting on landon being absent from the room, when he went to retrieve a change of clothes, and he nearly turned around on the spot but ultimately deciding to face his fears he took a deep breath as he nudged the door shut. “uh yeah, i did a tour,” he mumbled, “are you sure hope doesn’t want to go with you?”
