Princess Luna Redesign

Doing a MLP redesign and retelling! First is Twilight Sparkle.

Lore:

Twilight Sparkle starts the same way she does in the show where she is a pupil of Princess Celestia and is sent to Ponyville to learn about friendship, but instead of just living in the library with free reign of the town, she is given a full time job like the other ponies she has. In this version, she is made the official librarian for the town, as well as the planner and archivist for the mayor, as well as keeping up with her magic studies. This version of Twilight takes on the challenges head on and thinks that she will have plenty of time for her jobs and education because while she is very interested in learning about friendship to make her teacher proud, she never planned on actually becoming friends with anyone. She wanted to be a simple observer while she worked, but that all changed when the others of the Mane 6 meet her and show her around. She is very enthusiastic about talking to them, but while observing the friendships they all shared, she realized just how lonely it can be when she didn't have any friends. In this retelling, Nightmare Moon doesn't resurface until the end of the season, when Twilight realizes that she actually does want to be friends with the other ponies, and that is when the elements of harmony first surface.

Celestia- so she's actually the last one i designed because i for the life of me could not think of what to do with her design, and i really liked her canon design so i wanted to keep it relatively close to it. what i ended up doing was designing Luna first then used him as a jumping off point, this was how she ended up with partial armour. i also decided that the royal crest from Shining Armour's chest plate would be comprised of the royal sibling's cutiemarks, so i that's how her cutiemark ended up like that. also her coat patterns were a pain in the ass to make look okay

Luna- first an foremost, Luna's a guy now, you can't stop me. second off his design came to me so naturally i'm not actually sure how i managed to come up with it, it just kinda happened. im very happy with his patterns, and i had fun turning his crown into a pointy stabby armour bit. i am chewing on him so hard it's not even funny

i don't have any more lore right now- at least nothing comprehensible- so i can't really continue this post like i did all the others.... uuuhh.... just enjoy them ig?

i might design Nightmare Moon some day, but today is not that day i'll tell you that

Bonus: full alicorn lineup

I love love love love LOVE princess luna. I absolutely adore her.

Some head canons I have for her:

she gets easily warm so she doesn't like going out in the direct sunlight too much. her room its ice cold.

she still has some physical features similar to nightmare moon, but is no longer under nightmare moon's influence.

her horn is split in half because of the sudden removal of nightmare moon and overload of the elements of harmony was too much for her body to handle.

Next up: Nightmare Moon!

A culmination of all the negative emotions Luna had hid for centuries, plus some forbidden magics that were locked away shortly after her imprisonment. Nightmare Moon attempted to overthrow Celestia's rule, but was quickly defeated and trapped on the moon. Deep wounds from her shackles bleed as if freshly cut.

The Scarred Princess - Luna bears many marks from her battle with her sister and the years of frustration trying to break her banishment.

What began as marks of shame turned into a sign of redemption. She wears them with pride, a reminder to those who see her that no matter how far they’ve fallen, there’s always a path back.

A couple of extra notes: I wanted to add some red to link her to lunar eclipses. These extra markings and only came about after the defeat of Nightmare Moon, a sign of Luna’s growing power and the expansion of her domain.

Her mane also takes on a more smoky texture, somewhere between her old waterfall and Nightmare’s cloud. And she grows claws on her wing joints, taking away the need for the fake ones Celestia still uses.

Luna is still the Princess of the Night and protector of dreams, but now she also gives ponies nightmares. Experiencing fear in a contained environment can teach many things, and help process others.

As for the claws, red markings, and void like darkness in her wings, she knows they inspire a certain fear in others. But her time as Nightmare Moon has given her wisdom and clarity and she no longer shies away from the terror held within the night:

After all, as the one who fights off the shades and rogue nightmares, she should hold a little terror of her own.

My Nightmare Moon redesign! I rlly had fun with my Luna designs n am soo glad that ppl like it!!

Starting out as a shadowy whisper of doubt, Nightmare Moon crept into Luna‘s consciousness and took over, infecting her body in form of a parasitic bite. She then became the darkness herself, one with the shade.

My Nightmare Moon is incredibly silent and only murmurs soft whispers. Her presence is overwhelming, making you feel as if u were in a completely dark room - only having two giant eyes staring at you. Frantically you search for the light…until you find the beautiful moon. Around the time of the banishment, Nightmare made everypony frantically worship the moon. They‘d stare at it in a trance like state. This was her way, to make sure her night was forever cherished. Only Celestia could withstand this curse, as she, like the sun herself, was bright enough to not succumb to the darkness. Only she could stand against her sister…
