“You refuse to admit to your wrongdoings, then?” The man says, his voice getting more high pitched as he keeps talking. “Well, if you refuse to grant me the satisfaction of an apology and a rectifying of the situation-“

“You weren’t asking for that before,” Soren mutters darkly.

“-then you have left me only one option, Soren of the Greil Mercenaries,” the man continues as if Soren hadn’t said anything. “I challenge you to back up your words with steel. Meet me at the dueling grounds south of Duke Felrae’s estate in three days, then we shall see who really is in the right on this matter.”

He places his hand back on the hilt of his sword meaningfully. Rolf sucks in a breath. Everyone around them goes quiet. Oscar moves from pinching the bridge of his nose to suddenly alert, ready to step in as soon as Soren says something.

Soren… looks a little surprised, and, to Rolf’s surprise, faintly amused. He’s not smiling, but he has that look on his face where whatever’s happening has crossed the line into truly provoking his temper.

“Very well then, I accept your challenge,” Soren says evenly, in that same tone from before.

Or: an arrogant noble challenges Soren to a duel over Ike's hand

First in however many parts I'll do of this Tellius X Gachiakuta AU: Soren!

His Vital Instrument (a cherished object that's acquired a power, which can be drawn out by a Giver) is a worn down pen with which he can write spells that will come to life under this power.

This pen was a gift he received from Ike many years ago. His friend had just begun to learn his letters, but as Soren couldn't speak, they made use of writing and drawing as their means to communicate.

While Soren has found his voice, and the pen's ink has long since faded, he cherishes it to this day.
