Hi Lumi!! Uhm, I was wondering if you wouldn't mind for me to do a cover of Too L8 and TOO L4T3 with a friend of mine. I absolutely love both of the songs, and Homestuck The Musical in general. (I'm also making my own version of the musical, and I was wondering if you had some tips to making it? [A friend is helping with composition]). Thank you so much for your time, and I hope that you keep writing!!!
Super hecka late, but yeah sure go for it. As for tips if youâre still doing this, make sure the people youâre working with actually understand the scope of the project and whatâs expected of them. Thereâs nothing more disappointing than going in with a vision and then seeing it derailed because people want to play at making a show rather than actually making it.
HI Lumi! my friend just showed me Homestuck the Musical, and I am incredibly in love with the music and lyrics and i just wanted to tell you i think you did an amazing job! every productions has its ups and downs and im sad it wont be continued (because tricksters) but i completely understand!
Hey, thanks! Iâm glad people still enjoy the music even though I look back on it now as people do 5 years later and think... man... my music is so much better now than it was back then...Â
hey! sorry to bother if i happen to be doing so, but i was wondering if i could get permission to cover Happy Birthday, It's Not Over, and Keep You Safe from the homestuck musical? im absolutely fine with not getting permission, if youd rather i didnt cover these songs.
Hey! Sorry for the super late reply, I am not very active here anymore. But heck yeah go for it.
Hello, Lumi! I was directed here from the FAQ page of Homestuck: The Musical by the bullet addressing whose permission to ask for arranging the music of the musical, something I wish to do for orchestra. I would be happy to share all the arrangements I complete. This musical is an ingenious composition I could never hope to surpass in an original work; could I arrange it for possible performance? I would ask permission from all the lyricists before arranging, as well.
If you ask me off anon, I will probably say yes

Hey Lumi, I sent an ask a little while ago, but it may not have sent, or gotten buried. I want to do a cover of the song âItâs Not Overâ for my friend who is graduating this year. I know she really loves the song, and I know you prefer for people to ask permission before they cover anything. Iâm going to end up editing the parts together, and Iâll gladly share the final product with you! Thank you so much for your time!
Hey! Go for it, have fun! Thatâs very sweet of you to do something like this for your friend. I hope she enjoys your gift!
Hi! My cosplay group and I are making out own Homestuck musical, and I was wondering if you can give us any tips on music making (like platforms, lyrics, ect) or script writing. We will all appreciate that so much!
Make sure your team is committed and has realistic expectations for creating a piece of musical theatre. Itâs a difficult process that sounds like fun, but wonât be if youâre not properly prepared. As for music, make sure you have experience writing and arranging for whatever instrumentation you decide on, and either cast for the range you wrote or write for the cast. Experience and training are very important!
hi lumi! can i get your permission to do a lyricstuck of one of your songs, keep you safe?
Sure! Donât forget to credit!
Hi! I really enjoyed the "Homestuck the Musical" soundtrack. Its really great and i feel as if you guys need more attention. I loved the music! I was curious as to know why you guys don't want to do it again, recast and perform the musical? Thanks!
Hello! Iâm glad you enjoyed the music. I worked hard on it way back when. Unfortunately I had a really hard time working in what was a very unprofessional environment, with people who acted extremely inappropriately and chose not to view the project realistically. As many team members felt the same way, we chose not to continue with the project after our initial promised run. I, personally, have also since moved on and completed several other music projects, including scoring film, animation, dance, games, and sound designing for theatre. I am currently working on a new musical, now that I have more experience, so if you enjoyed my past music, look forward to that!
Can you cosplay as Mabel Pines dressed as a pig with a fake pig nose?
this is strangely specific

Hi, i realize this is coming literally out of nowhere, but I'm working on a parody musical about homestuck where, instead of being about homestuck itself, it's about theatre people trying to stop a homestuck musical from going on. That said, songs for Homestuck will be needed. I know you worked on Homestuck the musical and I was wondering if it would be okay to use sections of the songs you wrote, credited of course. If not, I completely understand. Thank you!
Unfortunately, I am not currently allowing the use of my music for external productions at this time. Best of luck with your production! The best option would be to write your own music.
Hello! A friend and I were planning on doing a cover of TOO L4T3 and, upon further reading all the terms on the blog, I saw that we had to get permission. And so here I am, messaging you, asking for permission ^.^. I honestly... really dont know how I am supposed to go about this, sorry.
Unfortunately, I canât give permission if youâre on anon. Please send me a request again off of anon!
i was wondering if i could get permission to suggest It's Not Over to my choir director? Every year we do a big thing with the seniors and its my senior year so i thought the song would be perfect.
Yes, and Iâm flattered that you would want to perform my music for such an important event. However, while I am giving you permission to suggest it and perform it with your choir, I honestly would not recommend Itâs Not Over as a choir piece, for several reasons. First, I cannot provide you with the score, which makes learning a choir piece nearly impossible. Second, the parts were written to be distributed among a very specific cast, and wouldnât suit any standard choir format, such as SATB and SSA. I think you would have a much better time performing something written chorally.

Hello again! I was wondering if I could do a cover of "Cheer Up" and post it on You Tube.
If you make sure to give proper credit, go ahead!
Arranging the Music for âItâs Over, Isnât It?â I had the great pleasure of arranging and performing âItâs Over, Isnât It?â for the episode Mr. Greg. This was my first time being involved at the early stages of a lyrical song! Since the song was focused on Pearlâs emotionsâand I compose and perform all of Pearlâs piano partsâRebecca and I collaborated to create an expressive instrumental track for Deedee Magno Hall to sing over. Rebecca first sent me her ukelele demo, and I drafted a piano accompaniment based on it, creating the main piano riff (measures 18-21 of the sheet music above). We passed my piano recording back and forth to solidify the musicality and tempo changes, so the song would breathe ânaturallyâ. After I recorded the piano part, we encountered a problem: the song was too long for the episode! To make it fit into our time constraints, we sped the piano recording up and had Deedee record Pearlâs vocals over it. She knocked it out of the park and gave a stunning performance! But that led to another problem: the sped up piano arrangement now sounded way too aggressive. The song reached me again a few months later, for the composition/scoring phase of Mr. Greg. I decided to draft a new piano arrangement and re-recorded âItâs Over, Isnât It?â along to Deedeeâs vocals, with more restraint and space between chords to heighten Pearlâs loneliness. To give more pain and tension to the music, I gave the chords some darker colors and unresolved notes. I collaborated with Rebecca and storyboard artist Joe Johnston to decide what parts of the first arrangement to keep. To represent Roseâs lingering presence, I added strings to the arrangement, performed beautifully by Jeff Ball. For those of you keeping score, this is Roseâs motivic instrument! I wrote them in 4-part string quartet style, so that this song could easily be performed by a string quartet, pianist, and vocalist.
Notes on the Sheet Music
Recently, Deedee and I performed âItâs Over, Isnât It?â at San Diego Comic-Con! These are the sheets that I used on stage. Itâs almost exactly what I played in the episode. In measure 56, I didnât feel like writing the entire arpeggio that I played (too many notes)âso where it says, âA MAJOR ARPâ, you can just squeeze as many A major arpeggios in there as you feel like! The two âDâs that I wrote are something that Deedee and I worked out for the performance, where I would follow her voice during the opening and ending, and she would follow my tempo throughout the rest. âDâ for Deedee! Hope you enjoyed Mr. Greg and this song! You can listen to the final arrangement in the episode here.
