Baby Red-fronted Macaws almost seem like a different species! But when they have the 1st big molt around 5 months, itโs a pretty amazing color transformation that only gets better with age. ๐โค๏ธ๐งก 1st pictured is the baby female (nicknamed Pepper) looking pretty ragged as she molts her baby feathers & the red and orange start to come in. She is alongside a little bit older baby (nicknamed Rocko) who is well on his way to more beauty. Nuts are great treat for parrots and a good supplemental food for certain species like Macaws & Greys that need extra fat in their diet. All of our parrots get some quantity of nuts, even ones that tend to put on weight with extra fat - we limit nuts with them but being flighted, a balance is achieved In expending calories. Plus, in-shell nuts are good to help keep beaks in condition, as well as a mental enrichment. Buy in bulk to save $ and freeze. They will stay fresh for a year in a regular freezer and 2 years in a deep freezer. We crack them to get babies started with the idea. Heโs so hilarious! โฅ๏ธ๐ This video is a great example, how around this age is where the medium-large to large species really start to become great pets - with a ton of interaction, which we give. Itโs a lot of daily work to give flighted babies this attention & training but itโs so worth it. I love hearing from customers on how happy they are. We also get to know our babiesโ personalities and can pass that onto their new owners. Most of it, is species specific but some info is individual. I.e., This baby enjoys physical attention and this baby does not...this one tends to get into things and this one is happy to just hang out with toys...etc. I love sharing our videos as it really shows the attention these birds need every day, and if this is something you want to take care of and spend money & your time on for a couple decades at least? They arenโt pretty objects to be locked up in a cage all day. We are their flock. They need us. We try to match parrot with person - and at times, we do try to convince perspective owners that some species of babies are not a good match for their experience or what matches their own human personality and household. I always implore people to do their research. The worst would be if a person bought a parrot that was too much to handle for them or that they couldnโt afford to provide for with proper cage size, regular new toys, etc. Then we also know that the parrot isnโt happy. We buy this mixed nut oil from Indonesia. Itโs super for adding quality fat to parrot diets in a natural way, as itโs derived from 7 different nut types.
