𓏲 ࣪ ˖ one - shot. monkey d. luffy x reader. fluff. reader is a queen. goldenretriever!luffy. set in ancient egypt. reader is referred as 'she'. basically a whole one piece episode. ◞ one of luffy’s greatest achievements is making the queen fall in love with him.
a heavy, sun-scorched silence hangs over the vast harbor of this newly discovered land, wrapping the entire coastline in an almost suffocating, shimmering blanket of intense heat. the thousand sunny, carrying its familiar vibrant figurehead, docks quietly against the unfamiliar, ancient shores of the kingdom of the pyramids, standing out like a bright, impossible splash of color against a vast, endless ocean of muted golds, scorched ochres, and blinding white light.
the air is thick, heavy, and completely dry, shimmering heavily with oppressive heat waves that dance across the desert floor and blur the distant, jagged edges of the horizon into a watery mirage. stepping off the gangplank, the atmosphere feels instantly, profoundly different from any island or foreign port they have ever visited before. the bustling docks are filled not with familiar faces, noisy merchants, or rowdy pirates, but with the hushed whispers, soft footsteps, and cautious, measured movements of the local inhabitants. these people are draped entirely in flowing garments of fine white linen, their faces partially veiled, moving with a synchronized grace, an intrinsic dignity, and a quiet, ancient poise that speaks volumes of a civilization deeply guarded by time, tradition, and untold secrets.
hanging thickly on the dry desert breeze is an intoxicating, complex sensory blend—the sharp, metallic tang of exotic dried spices, the heavy, sweet, and resinous aroma of burning incense drifting from hidden stone alcoves, and the faint, earthy scent of sun-baked dust and ancient mortar. yet, despite the mesmerizing sights, the intricate architecture of the outer port, and the quiet murmur of the locals going about their daily lives, one monumental feature completely dominates the entire landscape, dwarfing everything in its path and casting an overwhelming sense of awe over the entire world.
rising aggressively and majestically from the flat, baking expanse of the desert floor are the colossal, silent structures of the ancient kingdom: the great pyramids. they stand like massive, weathered mountains of geometric stone, perfectly sculpted monoliths whose sharp, imposing peaks cut deep into the brilliant, cloudless expanse of the azure sky. their immense, weathered surfaces catch the blinding glare of the midday sun, casting long, sharp, dramatic shadows that stretch far across the golden dunes, creating a stark, timeless contrast between blinding, unforgiving light and deep, impenetrable darkness.
from the deck of the sunny, breaking sharply through the tranquil, almost reverent quiet of the port, a sudden burst of pure, chaotic energy shatters the air, disrupting the sacred stillness of the morning. monkey d. luffy, the captain of the straw hat pirates, steps out into the open, his familiar straw hat resting securely on his back as his wide eyes take in the colossal, breathtaking view stretching out before him.
he squints fiercely against the blinding glare, his dark eyes widening instantly into pools of unfiltered, childlike wonder. a massive, signature grin stretches wildly across his face, entirely unburdened by the cautious atmosphere, the foreign customs, or the watchful gazes of the locals tracking his every move. to him, there is no ancient mystery, no sacred ground, and no looming history—only a giant, fascinating playground waiting to be climbed, investigated, and conquered.
"sugoi! look at those giant triangle buildings!" he bellows at the top of his lungs, his voice echoing loudly off the ancient stone walls, bouncing across the quiet harbor, and disturbing the peaceful air.
without waiting even a single second for a reaction from his crew—completely ignoring nami’s immediate, frantic shriek of warning or usopp’s wide-eyed, trembling panic—luffy throws his head back and lets out a carefree, booming laugh that rings out across the desert. in the very next instant, he is already a blurred streak of motion against the sand. he doesn’t hesitate for a fraction of a second; he launches himself forward with explosive speed, sprinting headlong into the labyrinthine, sun-drenched streets of the ancient city.
his heavy boots kick up fierce, billowing plumes of golden dust as he races straight toward the heart of the kingdom, his eyes locked entirely on the shadowed majesty of the towering pyramids. he moves with total abandon, driven purely by the magnetic pull of the unknown, rushing headlong into a monumental destiny within a civilization that has stood unchanged for millennia.
as luffy’s loud shouts and receding figure quickly vanish into a thick cloud of golden dust, the rest of the straw hat crew exchanges a collective, exhausted sigh before stepping off the thousand sunny and onto the sun-baked docks.
nami groans, pressing her hands against her temples to ward off the sudden headache brought on by their captain's reckless behavior, while usopp immediately begins trembling, wrapping his arms around himself as he scans the unfamiliar surroundings.
"that idiot! does he ever look before he leaps?!" nami yells, her voice pitching in frustration as she watches the dust settle in the direction luffy disappeared.
robin, however, remains remarkably calm, her blue eyes drifting thoughtfully across the intricate architecture of the outer port and the groups of local inhabitants who have gathered nearby. noticing the way the robed citizens suddenly tense up, murmuring frantically among themselves and casting nervous, warning glances toward the towering monuments in the distance, robin steps forward to investigate.
using a polite, measured tone, she engages a nearby group of elders who are hurriedly packing up their market stalls. after a brief exchange marked by cautious hand gestures and hushed, reverent whispers in a foreign tongue, robin turns back to face the rest of the crew, her expression shifting from casual curiosity to genuine solemnity.
"we might want to call luffy back," robin says, her voice carrying an unusual edge of gravity that instantly silences usopp's whimpering and draws zoro's single eye open. "according to the locals, those pyramids are not merely ancient tombs or architectural wonders. they are strictly forbidden ground."
chopper tilts his head, his ears drooping anxiously. "forbidden? why? is there a trap?"
"worse than a trap, chopper," robin replies, folding her arms as she looks out toward the massive, sharp peaks cutting into the blinding sky. "the inhabitants whisper that the inner sanctums of those pyramids are inhabited. and not just by ordinary guards or priests. according to their legends, the pyramids serve as the sacred dwelling place of the ruling royalty—a powerful, ancient dynasty, guarded by a sovereign whose absolute authority and mysterious power have ruled over this kingdom in absolute isolation for millennia. they say anyone who intrudes upon the royal grounds without permission faces immediate, merciless judgment."
upon hearing this, usopp lets out a high-pitched shriek of sheer terror, grabbing zoro's arm and shaking it frantically. "royalty?! an ancient, untouchable king or queen?! luffy is going to march right in there and start a war with a whole civilization before lunch! zoro, do something!"
zoro scoffs, resting his hand casually on the hilt of his swords as a small, amused smirk touches his lips, though his gaze sharpens as he looks toward the looming shadows of the great monuments. "well, if they've got a throne room, that just means luffy's probably already found the front door. let's go before our captain accidentally gets himself executed by an entire royal court."
meanwhile, luffy sprints across the sun-baked sands until he finally reaches the foot of the colossal, towering pyramids, his breath coming in light, easy gasps as he stares up at the massive stone blocks. he pauses, tilting his head with a confused frown as he observes the main entrance, which is completely crammed and overflowing with heavily armed guards standing in tight, unyielding formations.
"whoa, why are there so many guys standing at the front door? are they hiding a giant stash of meat in there?" he mutters to himself, scratching his cheek.
wondering why on earth they're guarding the entrance so intensely, he decides to bypass them entirely, darting around the perimeter until he finds a smaller, hidden side path carved into the weathered masonry.
this alternative route turns out to be the discreet service entrance, constantly busy with the hustle and bustle of palace servants, kitchen workers carrying baskets of exotic fruits and dried goods, and laborers scurrying along with lowered heads. luffy sneaks in among them, blending into the crowd of working-class citizens with surprising ease, until a towering royal guard suddenly steps out from the shadows, blocking his path with a sharp clank of metal.
"halt! state your business in the lower corridors, foreigner!" the guard demands, his hand resting menacingly on the hilt of his scimitar.
luffy freezes, his eyes going wide with momentary panic as his cover threatens to blow right on the spot. "uh—um! i was just, you know... looking for the bathroom!"
before the guard can shout for reinforcements, he abruptly cuts him off with an impatient wave of his hand, eyeing luffy's strange straw hat and casual clothes. "you're late. the head steward has been looking all over for the new batch of entertainers brought in for the palace. are you with the performance troupe or not?"
desperate not to look suspicious or get kicked out before he can explore the giant structure, luffy's lights up and he instantly nods, blurting out a loud, "yep, that's me! i'm totally one of the entertainment guys!"
satisfied, the guard grabs him firmly by the shoulder, shoving him down a torch-lit corridor and straight into a bustling holding area filled with a diverse group of performers, acrobats, and musicians who share the exact same role. looking around at his supposed peers, luffy blinks in total confusion.
"hey, what are you guys all doing sitting around here?" luffy asks loudly, poking a juggler on the shoulder.
one of the nearby performers turns around, looking at him like he has completely lost his mind. "what do you mean, what are we doing? we're getting ready to go on! our job is to put on a grand show and entertain before the evening banquet."
luffy tilts his head, his face twisting into an expression of utter bewilderment. "entertain who? wait, what's going on?"
the surrounding workers instantly stop what they're doing, staring at him in absolute shock with their jaws dropping open.
"who do you think? her majesty!" an acrobat gasps, grabbing his hair in disbelief. "are you out of your absolute mind, kid? she rules the entire kingdom with iron authority! have you been living under a rock in the desert?!"
"is this guy seriously an idiot?" another murmurs, shaking their head. "how can you not know who rules over us?!"
as the murmurs and disbelieving stares swirl around him, luffy just stands there in the middle of the crowded chamber, scratching the back of his head with a wide grin as a spark of intense curiosity flashes in his dark eyes.
"huh... a ruler, huh?" luffy murmurs to himself, a wide, intrigued smile spreading across his face as his mind begins racing with questions about this mysterious sovereign hidden inside the pyramids. "sounds pretty interesting!"
inside the great pyramid, the atmosphere in the grand hall is thick with nervous energy as the performers nervously await their turn to face the ruler of the kingdom. luffy, completely unbothered, stands near the back of the line, his eyes wide with childlike wonder as he takes in his surroundings. he had expected dusty tombs, but instead, he finds himself in a breathtaking royal palace, adorned with intricate golden hieroglyphics, towering marble columns, and shimmering tapestries that tell the forgotten history of the land.
he watches the other acts go on stage—a troupe of acrobats twisting their bodies into impossible shapes, a magician making small flames dance in the air, musicians playing hauntingly beautiful melodies on exotic instruments. luffy, however, finds the whole thing rather boring. he lets out a loud yawn, louder than intended, and points a finger at the magician. "hey, that's not real magic! my friend usopp can do way cooler stuff with fire than that! watch this," he whispers, loud enough for the performers nearby to hear, causing them to gasp in horror.
"silence in the ranks!" a stern-faced guard barks, his hand tightening on his weapon.
luffy just shrugs it off, completely ignoring the heavy tension settling over the room. he’s not worried about the queen or her scary-looking guards; he's just hungry and wants to find the kitchen.
but then, a booming voice announces, "the next performer: luffy of the... straw hat troupe!"
nerves? what are nerves? luffy simply grins, adjusting his straw hat as he shuffles forward, stumbling slightly over his own feet. in his mind, he pictures the queen to be a boring old lady, maybe grumpy or knitting all day.
but as he steps into the private royal audience chamber, his breath catches in his throat. sitting upon a throne of solid gold, radiating an aura of pure, undeniable power, is the queen. she is breathtakingly beautiful, her gaze sharp and intelligent, her posture regal and commanding. she is more than just a queen; she is a force of nature.
luffy stands frozen, his dark eyes widening in genuine surprise. he doesn't bow or avert his gaze like everyone else.instead, he stares directly into her mesmerizing eyes, his heart thumping in his chest for a totally different reason than usual.
"whoa," he blurts out, his voice echoing loudly in the silent chamber. "you are... you're incredibly beautiful! like, super, super pretty!"
the entire room falls into an absolute, suffocating silence. the guards stare at him in open-mouthed disbelief, their eyes bugging out of their heads. the performers who followed him in are horrified, whispering, "idiot! does he want to be executed?!"
the queen herself blinks, taken completely aback by his blunt, honest declaration. for a moment, she just stares at him, the corners of her mouth twitching. then, a small, tinkling laugh escapes her lips, a sound like wind chimes in the desert.
"well now," she murmurs, a playful glint appearing in her eyes. "that is certainly a... refreshing introduction."
before anyone can recover from the shock, one of the performers behind luffy nudges him hard in the back, hissing, "hey!you moron! stop flirting and entertain her majesty! now!"
luffy snaps back to reality, grinning sheepishly. "oh, right! i almost forgot!"
he looks at the queen, his eyes sparkling with excitement. "okay, so, i can't really juggle or do magic tricks like those other guys. but i can do this!"
without any warning, luffy inhales deeply, puffing out his chest and inflating himself until he becomes a giant, round balloon. he then bounces playfully in the air, performing a clumsy mid-air somersault that sends the remaining golden dust in the room flying.
the guards instantly draw their weapons, surrounding the queen in a protective wall, their faces contorted in fear and confusion. the performers scream, running for cover behind columns, pointing at luffy with trembling fingers.
to them, it's not entertainment; it's a grotesque, terrifying display, something monstrous and unnatural.
but on the throne, the queen hasn't moved. she just watches luffy, bouncing happily in the air, her expression shifting from surprise to intense curiosity. a small, genuine smile graces her lips as she studies the elasticity of his skin, the impossible way he defies physics.
"marvelous," she whispers to herself, her voice barely audible over the chaos. "simply marvelous."
the guards freeze, weapons still half-raised as they wait for a command, their eyes darting nervously between the giant, bouncing balloon in front of them and their ruler.
"lower your weapons," the queen commands, her voice smooth, calm, and carrying an absolute authority that instantly halts any hesitation. she holds up a slender hand, signaling the trembling guards to step back. "let him be. i wish to see more."
the guards exchange bewildered, uneasy glances, lowering their scimitars while continuing to eye luffy with deep suspicion. they clearly find his rubbery physiology disturbing, whispering among themselves about how unnatural and terrifying it is to watch a human body stretch, inflate, and warp like mere clay.
unbothered by the murmurs, luffy pops back to his normal size with a loud snap, landing squarely on his feet with an easy grin. deciding to ramp up the performance, he rolls his shoulders and leans right into his abilities.
"watch this!" luffy shouts cheerfully.
with a quick twist, he stretches his arm backward, winding it up like a coiled spring across the length of the grand chamber before launching it forward into a flurry of elastic punches that blur the air, before snapping his arm right back into place with a goofy laugh.
seeing him go wild, the rest of the performance troupe—still terrified and sweating profusely—decide they desperately need to join in or risk being blamed for ruining the show. sweating and stammering, they scramble to accompany his bizarre display as best as they possibly can. a couple of musicians quickly pick up their rhythm, striking frantic, upbeat notes on their exotic string instruments to match his erratic movements, while a couple of terrified acrobats awkwardly try to flip and tumble alongside his bouncing leaps, desperate to keep the pace.
it is a completely chaotic, mismatched scene: ancient royal musicians playing frantically out of pure panic, acrobats tumbling in a blind sweat, and a straw-hatted pirate stretching his limbs in every possible direction across the throne room.
yet, against all odds, it comes together into a wonderfully vibrant, utterly unique spectacle.
high upon her golden throne, the queen watches the chaotic performance unfold, the initial shock melting entirely away. as she takes in luffy’s bright, unfiltered joy and the frantic, humorous efforts of the troupe trying to keep up with him, a deep, genuine sound of amusement escapes her lips. a wide, delighted smile breaks across her beautiful face, her eyes sparkling with absolute fascination as she rests her chin on her hand, thoroughly captivated by the most unusual entertainment her kingdom has ever seen.
as the strange and frantic spectacle continues to fill the grand chamber, the queen leans forward slightly on her golden throne, her gaze never leaving the bouncing, rubbery pirate. captivated by the completely unprecedented display unfolding before her, she shifts her weight and gestures subtly to the side.
she leans in toward her head butler, who stands rigidly at attention beside the throne, and murmurs quietly, her eyes tracking luffy as he stretches his arm across the room.
"tell me... who is this man?" she asks, her voice carrying a tone of deep, undeniable intrigue.
flustered and sweating under the sudden attention, the chief steward in charge of managing the performance troupes hastily hurries forward, bowing low before the throne to offer an explanation.
"pardon, your majesty! we only just discovered him at the service entrance! his name appears to be luffy!" the steward stammers nervously, wringing his hands as he shoots a glare of absolute panic toward the center of the room.
hearing this, the queen does not look away. if anything, her curiosity only deepens, a profound sense of fascination blooming within her chest. all throughout the remainder of his clumsy, chaotic performance—as luffy bounces around, trips over his own feet, and accidentally knocks over a decorative urn with an elastic limb—she finds herself utterly unable to tear her eyes away from him.
she sits in absolute silence, resting her chin on her hand while a soft, thoughtful smile plays at the corners of her lips. as she watches him interact with the terrified troupe and flash that bright, carefree grin, a myriad of silent questions races through her mind. where did such an eccentric, unbound creature come from? how does a man made of impossible rubber exist in a world bound by ancient laws and unyielding tradition? and, most importantly, what kind of storm has just blown its way into her eternal kingdom?
as the chaotic performance finally draws to a noisy, breathless close, the dust settles thickly across the cold marble floor of the grand hall. the members of the troupe stand completely frozen, their chests heaving and sweat dripping down their faces as they wait with bated breath, desperately hoping they haven't just signed their own death warrants by bringing this absolute maniac onto the royal stage.
from upon her towering golden throne, the queen rises slightly, her majestic and commanding presence instantly silencing any lingering whispers or nervous murmurs in the room. her sharp, intelligent gaze sweeps slowly over the shivering group of entertainers before landing with absolute focus on the strange, straw-hatted figure standing right at the front.
"you have given us a most... unusual exhibition," the queen speaks, her voice smooth, resonant, and echoing softly against the ancient, hieroglyph-carved stone walls. she gestures gracefully toward the trembling performers. "tell us, who are you all? speak your names."
one by one, the terrified troupe members scramble to step forward, bowing deeply and stammering out their identities—acrobats, musicians, and jugglers—their voices shaking as they plead silently with their eyes for mercy from the sovereign.
once the last of them falls back into terrified silence, the queen tilts her head slightly, her dark eyes shifting entirely to lock onto luffy. a faint, deeply amused smile plays at the corners of her lips, her curiosity peaking.
"and what of you, strange boy?" she asks, her tone laced with a profound, undeniable intrigue. "you who stretch like rubber, defy every physical law of this kingdom, and march into our palace like you own the sands. who are you?"
luffy blinks, completely unfazed by the heavy royal scrutiny or the weight of the thousands of years of history resting in this room. he adjusts his straw hat with a wide, carefree grin, puffing his chest out proudly as he looks right back at her without a single trace of intimidation.
"i'm monkey d. luffy!" he announces boldly, pointing a thumb right at his own chest with total transparency and unabashed confidence. "and i'm gonna be king of the pirates!"
the moment those impossibly brazen words leave his mouth, a fresh, collective gasp ripples through the guards and the troupe, who instinctively brace themselves for him to be immediately struck down by the royal executioners for such an absurd, casual declaration before the absolute ruler of the land.
instead, the exact opposite happens.
the queen freezes for a fraction of a second, entirely taken aback by his absolute lack of pretense, his utter lack of fear, and the baffling, refreshing honesty radiating from him. and then, a rich, genuine laugh bubbles up effortlessly from her chest—not a sound of mockery, condescension, or ridicule, but one of pure, delighted surprise at the sheer, beautiful bizarreness of the boy standing before her.
as the echoes of her laughter fade softly into the vast stone chamber, one of the terrified troupe members creeps up behind luffy, his face completely pale with panic. grabbing frantically at the fabric of luffy's vest, he whispers in a desperate, trembling hiss right into his ear, "hey! are you completely out of your mind?! she's actually laughing, she's taking an interest in you! go—go bow and kiss the back of her hand right now as a sign of absolute respect, before she changes her mind and has all of us dragged off to the dungeons!"
luffy tilts his head, blinking in mild, unbothered confusion at the sheer panic radiating from the performer, but deciding that a closer look at the throne room wouldn't hurt, he simply shrugs. with an easy, carefree grin, he takes a casual step forward, beginning to march right up the wide, imposing flight of grand stone steps that separates the lower floor from the elevated golden dais.
the surrounding guards tense instantly like tightly wound springs, their hands twitching nervously toward the hilts of their scimitars at the unprecedented sight of an outsider approaching the sacred seat of power.
yet, before any of them can draw a weapon or shout a warning, the queen raises a slender, graceful hand to halt them completely. she watches him climb steadily toward her, a soft, anticipatory glint dancing brightly in her dark, intelligent eyes. she extends her hand outward, offering it softly in the open air between them—not with the cold, haughty distance of a distant sovereign demanding subservience, but with a quiet, open warmth, as if she has been secretly waiting all this time for a charming, completely unpredictable boy just like him to finally bridge the vast, lonely distance of her throne and shake up her entire world.
luffy reaches the final step and gently takes her hand, his touch light and surprisingly reverent despite his reckless nature. as his lips graze her skin, a sudden, electric jolt—something entirely foreign and deeply startling—ripples through the queen’s entire being. it is nothing like the cold, scripted kisses of her subjects or the sycophantic gestures of court officials; there is an undeniable, raw warmth radiating from this boy that makes her breath catch in her throat. she studies the top of his head, mesmerized by his simplicity, and realizes with a sudden clarity that he is something—someone—completely unlike anyone she has ever encountered in her long, solitary reign.
she reaches out, her manicured fingers brushing against his jawline before she tilts his chin up, forcing him to meet her gaze. she searches his dark, honest eyes, sensing a spirit that is entirely unchained.
"you have traveled a very long way to reach my gates, little pirate," she murmurs, her voice soft and heavy with sudden, genuine concern. "a journey across the endless sands must have been grueling. tell me, where do you come from?"
luffy grins, oblivious to the gravity of her gaze, and launches into a rambling, spirited explanation of his journey, describing the sea, his ship, and his crew with such unbridled passion that the queen finds herself leaning closer, captivated by his every word. as he talks, he unconsciously sighs, his stomach emitting a thunderous, unmistakable growl that echoes through the silence of the hall.
"and since leaving the coast," he adds with a pout, "i haven't found a single thing to eat."
at the sheer, pathetic honesty of his complaint, the queen lets out a bright, melodic laugh, the sound ringing out with a warmth that makes the surrounding guards blink in astonishment. seeing her genuinely worried, her brow furrowed with concern for his hunger, luffy’s face lights up with a radiant, golden joy that makes the queen’s heart skip a beat. the realization that this powerful, untouchable sovereign cares about his next meal makes him happier than he has ever been.
"guards!" she calls out, her tone shifting to one of absolute, immediate command, though her eyes never leave luffy's beaming face. "clear the banquet hall. i want every delicacy, every roast, and every fruit in this kingdom brought to the table. prepare a feast fitting for a king, and do it now!"
the palace erupts into frantic, coordinated movement. cuisiniers and servants scramble toward the kitchens, and the head steward rushes off to oversee the massive preparations.
"and one more thing," the queen adds, turning to the captain of her guard with a stern look. "send word to the harbor. find the rest of his companions—his crew—and bring them here to join us immediately. no harm is to come to them. they are guests of the throne."
the queen rises from her throne, her long, elegant robes trailing behind her like a river of silk against the ancient stone floor. she gestures for luffy to follow, and the grand procession begins, led by her butler who marches with stiff, disciplined precision. as they move through the vast corridors of the pyramid, the atmosphere feels shifted; the imposing, cold architecture seems less like a tomb and more like a vibrant, living history under the influence of their newfound company.
the queen leads him through halls lined with glistening artifacts, towering statues of forgotten deities, and murals that shimmer with inlaid gold. she points out the intricate carvings of her ancestors, but she barely glances at them, her attention anchored entirely on the boy walking by her side. she is fascinated by the contrast he presents—this wild, unpredictable pirate wandering through the most sacred, ordered halls of her ancient legacy.
"tell me more, luffy," she encourages, her voice a low, rhythmic melody as they stroll through a garden hidden deep within the pyramid’s heart, where exotic flowers bloom under artificial light. "these 'seas' you speak of... they are truly as vast as the desert?"
luffy doesn't need to be asked twice. he walks with his hands behind his head, his straw hat bobbing as he animatedly describes the grand line, the battles against massive sea kings, and the thrill of discovery that fuels his life. he talks of his friends—a swordsman, a navigator, a doctor—with such warmth and unpretentious love that the queen finds herself softening in ways she never thought possible.
the butler follows a few paces behind, his eyes wide with disbelief as he watches his sovereign—a woman who usually commands with sharp, cold efficiency—laugh openly at a ridiculous story about a deer-man and a skeleton playing music. she hangs on every word, her gaze fixed on luffy’s expressive face, his wide, infectious grin, and the spark of freedom in his dark eyes.
she isn't just listening to tales of adventure; she is living vicariously through them. in the quiet, shadowed stillness of the pyramids, where time usually stands perfectly, agonizingly still, luffy’s chaotic energy feels like a rushing current of fresh air. the queen finds herself mesmerized, not by the legends of her own kingdom, but by the legend of the boy who dares to dream of being king. he is a storm, a ray of light, and a mystery all at once, and with every story he tells, she realizes she is becoming dangerously, irrevocably intrigued by the captain of the straw hats.
as they wander through a long, gallery-lined corridor filled with the flickering warmth of wall-mounted torches, luffy stops abruptly in front of a massive, intricately carved relief. he turns to her, his expression entirely candid and devoid of the stiff formality that every other soul in this palace displays.
"hey, so you're the queen," luffy says, tilting his head with a curious, simple smile. "but who are you, really? like, what do you do when you aren't sitting on that big gold chair all day?"
the queen stops dead in her tracks, the sound of her sandals clicking against the stone floor ceasing instantly. her butler, walking a few steps behind, nearly trips over his own feet, his eyes widening as if luffy had just committed a grave sacrilege. nobody in this kingdom ever asked her about herself; they only asked for her judgment, her wealth, or her protection.
she stares at luffy for a long moment, the silence stretching between them. then, a small, genuine smile graces her lips, and she resumes walking, though this time she moves a little slower, closer to his side.
"a personal inquiry? that is... unexpected," she replies, her tone thoughtful. "i am the sovereign of these sands, a guardian of a legacy that stretches back to the dawn of time. my life is a cycle of duty, of keeping order, and of preserving the history etched into these very walls."
she looks up at the high, vaulted ceiling, her gaze distant. "the throne is not just a seat, luffy. it is the center of a world that expects perfection, stillness, and eternal wisdom from me."
luffy lets out a carefree, booming laugh that echoes throughout the silent corridor, utterly unfazed by the weight of her responsibilities. "man, that sounds boring! just sitting there and being perfect? no way!"
he walks over to a nearby wall, running his hand over the massive, perfectly fitted sandstone blocks that make up the pyramid's structure. he looks at them with genuine, childlike fascination, tapping the stone with his knuckles.
"forget the boring stuff! i want to know about this!" he exclaims, gesturing to the monolithic walls around them. "how did you guys even build these things? they're huge! did you use giants? or did you use some kind of super-cool construction machine? i bet it was a crazy adventure just building them!"
the queen stands there, watching him inspect the masonry with such raw, unadulterated curiosity. he isn't looking for political answers or historical prestige—he just wants to know how the world works. the sheer simplicity of his interest catches her off guard, and for the first time in her long reign, she finds herself wanting to tell him not just the history of her people, but the secrets she has guarded in her own heart.
back down at the sun-baked harbor, the remaining members of the straw hat crew are still attempting to catch their breath and process the sheer insanity of their surroundings when the heavy thud of approaching boots interrupts them. a heavily armed squadron of the kingdom's royal guards marches out from the shade of the grand archways, their polished scimitars gleaming dangerously in the harsh desert light.
zoro immediately rests his hand heavily on the hilt of his swords, his single visible eye narrowing into a sharp glare as he steps in front of nami and usopp. chopper lets out a squeak of absolute terror, transforming into his brain point and hiding behind franky's massive legs, while usopp starts shaking like a leaf, gripping his head in total despair.
"this is it! we're dead! luffy's been captured or executed by a secret royal hit squad, and now they've come to finish off the rest of the crew!" usopp wails, grabbing nami's shoulders and shaking her back and forth frantically. "we're doomed! i'm too young to be mummified!"
nami slaps usopp's hands away, pressing her palms to her temples as a migraine blooms behind her eyes. despite her outward frustration, a knot of genuine dread twists tightly in her stomach. she knows how recklessly her captain operates, and the thought of what kind of diplomatic nightmare luffy has managed to spark in less than ten minutes sends a cold shiver down her spine.
"that absolute idiot," nami groans, her voice laced with pure exasperation and underlying panic as she glares at the approaching guards. "i swear, if he's already managed to start a war with an ancient civilization before lunch, i'm going to throw him overboard myself."
robin, however, remains remarkably composed, watching the lead guard approach with a calm, analytical expression.
before zoro can draw his blades to strike, the captain of the royal guard holds up a hand, signaling his men to halt. to the crew's utter shock, the guard lowers his weapon, adopting a stiff, respectful posture.
"straw hat pirates," the guard announces formally, though a hint of bewildered exhaustion lingers in his voice. "her majesty, the queen, demands your presence immediately. you are to follow us to the inner palace without delay."
usopp’s jaw hits the sand. "her... her majesty?! they're taking us to the boss? oh gods, we really are going to be executed!"
zoro exhales a sharp breath, a dry, amused smirk touching his lips as he looks toward the towering pyramids in the distance. "well, at least we won't have to wander around looking for him. let's go see what kind of mess our captain's gotten us into this time."
down in the grand, high-ceilinged banquet hall, the heavy oak doors swing open to reveal a breathtaking sight. a massive, seemingly endless table stretches across the room, groaning under the weight of silver platters piled high with exotic fruits, steaming spiced meats, glittering decanters of sweet nectar, and rare delicacies that have taken days to prepare.
when luffy steps into the room and lays eyes on the absolute mountain of food, his jaw drops open, his eyes turning into giant sparkling stars, and a thick stream of drool pools in his mouth.
"f-food...!" he gasps, his entire body trembling with pure, unadulterated excitement.
without waiting for an invitation, without a single shred of table manners, and completely forgetting he is standing right in front of the ruler of an ancient kingdom, luffy launches himself across the room like a cannonball. he faceplants right into a towering stack of roast poultry, grabbing whole platters with both hands and shoving food into his mouth at super-speed, inhaling meat, fruit, and pastries all at once.
the royal guards stationed around the hall instantly gasp, their eyes bulging out of their heads as they watch the straw-hatted pirate desecrate the sacred royal banquet.
"the audacity! he's eating like a feral beast right in front of her majesty!" a guard hisses in utter horror, gripping his spear knuckles-white. "this guy isn't just weird... he's completely, utterly brainless!"
yet, standing beside him, the queen doesn't look offended at all. instead, seeing his childish, uninhibited joy and the chaotic mess he is making, she covers her mouth with a slender hand, letting out a bright, musical laugh that echoes warmly off the stone walls. she finds his complete lack of pretense endlessly refreshing.
just as luffy is halfway through a giant leg of lamb, the heavy double doors at the other end of the hall slam open.
the remaining straw hat pirates stride into the room, flanked by an escort of royal guards. zoro has his hand resting casually on his swords, nami looks ready to throttle someone, usopp is weeping openly while clutching his head in total despair, and chopper is trembling behind franky. they are bracing themselves for the worst—expecting to find their reckless captain chained in a dungeon, or strapped to an executioner's block, begging for his life.
instead, they stop dead in their tracks, their jaws hitting the marble floor, their brains completely short-circuiting at the surreal vision before them.
there, sitting at the head of a magnificent golden feast, laughing softly and watching with fond amusement, is the breathtaking, powerful queen of the pyramids. and right next to her, covered in grease, stuffing his face with an entire roast pig while grinning from ear to ear, is none other than their captain, monkey d. luffy.
usopp rubs his eyes frantically, shaking zoro’s arm. "z-zoro... tell me i'm dead. tell me we died in the desert and this is heaven. because there is no way our captain is eating dinner with the supreme ruler of the kingdom like they're old buddies!"
nami blinks once, twice, a vein throbbing violently on her forehead as she stares at luffy. "i swear... the second he's done eating, i'm going to murder him myself."
as the heavy double doors at the other end of the hall slam open, the remaining straw hat pirates stride into the room, flanked by an escort of royal guards. zoro has his hand resting casually on his swords, nami looks ready to throttle someone, usopp is weeping openly while clutching his head in total despair, and chopper is trembling behind franky. they are bracing themselves for the worst—expecting to find their reckless captain chained in a dungeon, or strapped to an executioner's block, begging for his life.
behind them, however, the rest of the crew reacts with their own signature brands of chaos.
sanji’s eyes instantly turn into giant, spinning hearts the absolute second he catches sight of the breathtaking sovereign sitting at the head of the table. kicking his legs up with a lovesick swoon, he floats across the marble floor on cloud nine, completely ignoring the armed guards. "oh, mon dieu! a queen so radiantly divine, ruling over these ancient sands like a true goddess of love! i am entirely at your mercy, my lady!" he sings out, spinning wildly in a flurry of floral daydreams.
next to him, robin lets out a soft, elegant chuckle, her hand gracefully covering her mouth as she takes in the architectural marvels of the grand hall and the surreal scene unfolding before them. "how delightfully unexpected," she murmurs, her eyes sparkling with intellectual curiosity as she observes the intricate hieroglyphics lining the banquet room walls rather than panicking over the royal presence.
meanwhile, brook immediately pops up from the middle of the group, tipping his top hat with a theatrical flourish despite having no eyes to see the tension. "yohohoho! what a magnificent welcoming party! though, to be completely honest with you, my heart is pounding right out of my chest—even though i don't have a heart, yohohoho! would it be terribly improper of me to ask to see your panties, your majesty?"
nami’s eye twitches violently, and in a flash of pure, terrifying speed, she brings her fist down hard on both sanji and brook's heads, sending them crashing straight into the floor tiles with massive bumps rising on their skulls. "would you idiots take this seriously for five seconds?!" she screeches furiously, before turning a mortified, apologetic smile toward the throne. "i am so, so sorry! please don't mind them, they're absolute morons!"
instead of calling for the executioners, the queen simply watches the colorful display, her laughter ringing out even louder and more joyful than before.
and right next to her, covered in grease and stuffing his face with an entire roast pig while grinning from ear to ear, is none other than their captain, monkey d. luffy, completely oblivious to the chaos as he points a greasy chicken leg at his crew.
"hey guys! you gotta try the meat here, it's amazing!" luffy shouts around a mouthful of food, completely unfazed.
the queen rises gracefully from her seat, her silk garments rustling softly against the marble as she steps down from the dais. the heavy, silent tension that usually follows her movement is completely replaced by a subtle air of intrigue. she glides smoothly toward the entrance where the straw hats stand, her towering presence and commanding charisma demanding instant attention.
stopping a few paces away from the crew, she looks over the eclectic group of pirates, her dark eyes sharp yet filled with a genuine, welcoming curiosity.
"so," the queen speaks, her voice ringing clear and melodious through the vast hall. "these are the companions of our little pirate. you are the rest of luffy's crew?"
one by one, despite their initial shock, the crew instinctively reacts to her overwhelming royalty. zoro straightens up, his single eye assessing her quiet strength with a nod of mutual respect. robin steps forward with a poised, elegant bow, offering her name with refined grace. even usopp manages to swallow his terror long enough to stammer out a polite introduction, completely awestruck by her sheer majesty.
standing tall and radiating an effortless, timeless power, the queen leaves them all utterly mesmerized. despite her striking beauty and intimidating aura, there is no hostility in her gaze—only a profound fascination.
as they exchange pleasantries, the crew members exchange wide, bewildered glances behind her back, each of them silently asking the exact same question in their heads: how on earth did luffy manage to go from breaking into a royal pyramid to sitting at the head of a feast with the absolute ruler of the entire kingdom in less than an hour?
with a soft, welcoming sweep of her hand, the queen breaks the spell of awe hanging over the crew. "please," she says, a warm and genuine smile gracing her lips, "do not stand on ceremony. join us. there is more than enough food for everyone."
at the magic word food, the tension evaporates completely. in a blur of motion, luffy pauses only to swallow a massive chunk of meat, while sanji—already recovered from his beating—transforms back into his lovesick, starry-eyed chef mode, spinning toward the table with an ecstatic gasp at the sheer quality of the royal ingredients. zoro immediately targets the nearest decanter of wine and a platter of heavy roasted meats, usopp and chopper dive face-first into a mountain of sweet pastries, franky strikes a flashy pose while grabbing a handful of fruit, and brook begins strumming a cheerful tune on his cane sword as he dances over.
soon, the grand, echoing banquet hall is filled with the rare, lively sounds of laughter, clinking silverware, shouting arguments over the last piece of chicken, and the joyful chaos that only the straw hat crew can bring.
at the head of the table, seated slightly apart from the rowdy mob, the queen rests her chin in her hand. she remains entirely silent, watching the spectacle unfold before her eyes.
her dark, intelligent gaze drifts from zoro and sanji bickering over a plate, to nami sighing while secretly smiling, to luffy laughing so hard he nearly chokes on a whole melon. to her, accustomed to the rigid, lonely, and meticulously calculated protocol of her eternal court, this scene is completely alien—and utterly mesmerizing.
she watches the way they bicker like children yet protect one another like a fortress. she watches the absolute, unconditional trust binding them together.
a family, she thinks to herself, her chest tightening with a sudden, aching wave of emotion.
deep inside her heart, locked away beneath layers of royal duty, centuries of solitude, and the heavy burdens of an ancient crown, lies a deeply buried secret—a long-forgotten longing for warmth, for genuine connection, and for the simple, unpretentious belonging that these chaotic pirates share so effortlessly. as she watches luffy catch her eye and flash her a bright, greasy, unfiltered grin, a soft, wistful warmth blooms in her chest, melting away the cold loneliness she has carried for a lifetime.
amidst the roaring laughter and the clatter of silverware, luffy suddenly stops mid-chew. he turns his head toward the end of the long golden table, noticing that while everyone else is devouring food like their lives depend on it, the queen’s plate remains entirely untouched.
leaning forward with a piece of meat skewered on a fork, luffy blinks innocently. "hey, why aren't you eating anything?" he asks, his voice cutting clearly through the noise. without missing a beat, he shoves his overflowing plate closer to her, offering a grand gesture with his arm. "here, you can share mine! there's plenty, and this giant piece of chicken is super good!"
the moment the words leave his mouth, the entire banquet hall plunges into absolute, dead silence.
behind him, the straw hat crew collectively stop breathing. nami drops her fork with a sharp clatter, usopp turns completely ghost-white, and zoro freezes mid-drink, all of them waiting for the sky to fall. across the room, the royal guards clutch their spears, letting out harsh snorts of derision and muffled laughter.
"unbelievable," a guard whispers loudly, rolling his eyes. "the peasant actually thinks he can offer scraps to her majesty from his own greasy plate. what an absolute fool."
yet, the queen doesn't flinch or display a hint of offense. instead, she looks down at the offered plate, then up at luffy’s completely earnest, unpretentious face—a face filled with a pure, simple desire to share his food simply because he thinks good things should be enjoyed together.
a soft, genuine smile blooms across her features, entirely devoid of royal stiffness.
"no, thank you, luffy," she replies, her voice carrying a warm, amused fondness. she shakes her head gently, resting her chin on her hand. "i do not wish to eat. i can easily go without. this is your feast, after all, not mine. besides, i shall have my own meal this evening, as is my usual custom."
hearing her answer so calmly and kindly, instead of getting offended or acting high and mighty, makes luffy’s grin stretch even wider. a wave of deep appreciation washes over him. he loves people who don't care about stuffy rules, and the fact that she's just chilling out and letting him eat his fill makes him like her a whole lot more.
"shishishi! alright, suit yourself!" luffy laughs brightly, pulling the plate back and instantly diving right back into his mountain of food, entirely unbothered by the whispering guards, while the queen watches him, her heart feeling lighter than it has in centuries.
as the monumental feast finally draws to a close, plates are pushed back and groaning stomachs are patted with deep, satisfied sighs. the royal stewards approach the straw hats with polite, formal bows, informing them that lavish guest quarters have been prepared for them deep within the inner wings of the palace for the night. as the crew is escorted away, they walk in a daze, still utterly astounded by the breathtaking wealth, gold-inlaid corridors, and sheer historical majesty of the ancient fortress—not to mention the unbelievable fact that their captain somehow charmed the supreme ruler of the land into throwing them a royal banquet.
meanwhile, in a much more intimate, secluded dining hall elsewhere in the palace, a starkly different scene unfolds.
the queen sits at the head of a much smaller, quieter table reserved for her closest advisors, high ministers, and palace officials. the atmosphere here is heavy with quiet politics, whispered state affairs, and rigid court etiquette. yet, despite the presence of her government, the queen is unusually quiet. as she picks at her light evening meal, her gaze drifts absently toward the empty space at the end of the table, her mind miles away from the affairs of state.
far down another corridor, inside a sprawling, luxuriously appointed guest bedroom fit for visiting royalty, luffy lies flat on his back across a massive, plush bed. the sheets are woven from the finest silk, and gold ornaments gleam from the ceiling, but luffy isn't paying attention to any of the luxury.
with his hands locked behind his head and his straw hat resting on his chest, he stares up at the ornate ceiling, his brow furrowed in unusual contemplation. for all his carefree nature, an unfamiliar itch of curiosity lingers in his mind. he thinks back to the vast, golden halls, the heavy weight in her dark eyes, and the quiet way she sat apart from everyone else, refusing to eat while watching them with that wistful, searching gaze.
she's the queen, and she lives in this giant, shiny gold castle... but why did she look so lonely? luffy wonders to himself, turning over on the oversized mattress as the mysteries of the ancient desert queen echo quietly in his thoughts.
the heavy oak doors of the royal bedchamber click shut, sealing out the whispers of the ministers and the flickering torchlight of the corridors. the vast, sprawling room is bathed in the soft, amber glow of oil lamps, casting long, dancing shadows against the ancient hieroglyphs carved into the stone walls.
the queen stands before a polished bronze mirror, her long, dark hair still damp and smelling faintly of lotus and rare desert oils from her evening bath. the heavy gold collar and royal ornaments that weighed her down throughout the day rest neatly on a velvet tray, leaving her collarbones bare and exposed to the cool night air. she traces a finger lightly over her skin, shedding the final layers of her impenetrable sovereign facade.
she turns away from the mirror and walks slowly toward her oversized, canopied bed draped in gossamer silks. but as she looks out the towering, unglazed window at the vast, silent expanse of the moonlit desert stretching endlessly into the horizon, the quiet hits her like a physical blow.
it is complete, absolute silence.
no clattering silverware. no roaring, boisterous laughter echoing down the stone halls. no bickering voices arguing over the last piece of meat. no bright, unyielding grin looking straight through her crown and seeing only her.
compared to the vibrant, chaotic whirlwind of a day she has just spent with luffy and his crew, the silence of her royal chambers feels heavier, colder, and more suffocating than it ever has before. she sits on the edge of the mattress, pulling her knees up slightly beneath her silk robes, her dark eyes staring into the empty room as the lingering warmth of a strange boy's smile echoes softly in the quiet dark.
tossing and turning on the oversized, plush mattress, luffy lets out a heavy groan of frustration. sleep is completely out of the question. his mind keeps flashing back to the golden halls, the quiet sorrow behind her dark eyes, and the way she had sat alone while watching them eat. unable to shake the overwhelming curiosity gnawing at him, he gives up, scoops up his straw hat from the bedside table, and decides to investigate.
tiptoeing out of his opulent guest room, luffy creeps down the sprawling, dimly lit corridor. he tries his absolute best to be stealthy, but his idea of sneaking involves heavy footsteps, a slight clattering of his sandals, and whispering "shh, i'm a shadow" at the top of his lungs.
rounding a corner near a towering pillar of hieroglyphs, he suddenly bumps right into someone standing quietly in the moonlight.
"whoa!" luffy gasps, stumbling back.
standing there with a book in hand and a calm, knowing smile is robin. she looks down at her captain, raising an eyebrow in amusement as she crosses her arms.
"caught in the act, captain," robin murmurs softly, her voice gliding smoothly through the silent corridor. "wandering the royal palace in the middle of the night. and what, pray tell, were you planning to do?"
luffy scratches the back of his head, flashing an unbothered grin. "oh, hey robin! i couldn't sleep. i keep thinking about that queen. i just can't get it out of my head—what's her story, anyway? why does she look so lonely even though she has a whole giant castle?"
robin blinks, her gaze softening with a mixture of gentle insight and academic fascination. she closes her book, holding it lightly against her side.
"history leaves many clues in stone, captain," robin replies, her eyes twinkling with quiet wisdom. "i could tell you about the ancient dynasties of these sands, the burdens of an unbroken lineage, and the isolation that often comes with a crown. but..." she pauses, offering a meaningful smile, "if you truly want to know her story, a historian's book won't suffice. you'll have to hear it directly from the queen's own lips."
luffy lets out a long, disappointed sigh, his shoulders slumping as robin’s words settle in. he realizes she's right—sneaking around hallways isn't going to magically hand him the answers he's looking for. with a reluctant nod, he turns back toward his room, a new, stubborn determination taking root deep inside his chest. he wants to see that bright, genuine smile of hers again, and he's going to figure out what's hiding behind her sorrow, no matter what it takes.
meanwhile, back in her royal bedchamber, the queen drifts into a restless, uneasy sleep. wrapped in the quiet stillness of the ancient stone walls, the heavy secret she has carried for a lifetime continues to press tightly against her heart, a silent ache that even the brightest dawn has yet to wash away.
the next morning, the golden light of the desert sun streams through the towering archways of the palace, but luffy is already wide awake and on a mission. fueled by his stubborn determination from the night before, he kicks off the day by turning into a full-fledged detective—though a rather chaotic one.
wandering through the lavish corridors, luffy inspects the walls with intense, narrowed eyes, tapping on stone reliefs, examining old tapestries, and squinting at faded portraits of past rulers as if he expects them to suddenly speak to him.
it doesn't take long for the rest of the crew to notice his completely out-of-character behavior.
zoro, crossing his arms, leans against a pillar and watches luffy press his ear up against a blank stone wall. "is it just me, or has our captain been acting weirdly focused all morning? is he looking for a secret kitchen or a trapdoor?"
nami sighs, pressing her fingers to her temples. "who knows? knowing him, he's either looking for treasure or trying to accidentally start another international incident."
robin, however, just offers a knowing, enigmatic smile as she watches luffy scurry past.
determined to crack the case of the queen’s hidden sorrow, luffy eventually sneaks away from the main halls and pushes open the heavy carved doors of the palace's grand library. the vast room takes his breath away for a second—towering shelves stretch endlessly toward the ceiling, filled with thousands of ancient scrolls, leather-bound tomes, and dusty manuscripts.
determined to understand, luffy grabs a massive, heavy book off the nearest shelf and plops down right in the middle of the aisle. he flips open the pages, staring intently at intricate diagrams of how the colossal pyramids were built block by block, and maps detailing the ancient kingdom's borders.
he squints at the archaic text, furrowing his brow as he tries to make sense of the complex history. nothing about it makes complete sense to his simple way of thinking, but as he traces a finger over a drawn portrait of a lone queen standing atop her throne centuries ago, his resolve only hardens. books and ancient stones can only tell him so much—he's going to find her and get the real story straight from her mouth.
the desert night is cool and silent, the palace transformed into a labyrinth of shadows and silver moonlight. luffy creeps through the corridors, his movements unusually hushed, his heart hammering against his ribs. he feels like a complete amateur compared to the legendary infiltrators of the sea, expecting a guard to jump out from every corner.
as he turns a sharp corner leading toward the private wing, he freezes. there, standing motionless in the dim light, is the queen’s butler. he is holding a silver tray, his face an impenetrable mask of stoic discipline.
luffy winces, bracing himself to be hauled off to the dungeons or lectured by the stiff old man. but the butler doesn't shout. instead, he offers a barely perceptible nod, his eyes flickering with a knowing, almost melancholic warmth. he steps aside, gesturing silently toward the heavy, ornate doors at the end of the hall—the queen’s private sanctuary—before walking away without a word.
luffy stands there for a moment, blinking in confusion, but he takes the hint. he reaches the mahogany doors, his hand trembling slightly. he knocks, once, twice—a soft, hesitant sound that seems to echo loudly in the stillness.
"come in," the queen’s voice drifts through the wood, muffled and weary. she clearly expects her trusted attendant to bring a final report or a glass of water.
luffy pushes the door open and slips inside.
the sight that meets him makes him stop dead. the chamber is vast and opulent, filled with the faint, soothing scent of sandalwood and moonlight. but it isn't the grandeur of the room that catches his attention—it’s her.
the queen is sitting by the window, not draped in her heavy gold crown or the stifling ceremonial robes of state, but in a flowing, simple silk robe that cascades around her like liquid moonlight. her hair is loose, falling in dark, unkempt waves over her shoulders. without the mask of the sovereign, she looks startlingly young, and, more than anything, deeply, achingly alone.
she turns her head, expecting the butler, and her eyes widen in genuine shock as she sees the straw-hatted boy standing in her doorway, looking just as nervous and out of place as she feels vulnerable.
"luffy?" she whispers, the title of queen slipping away from her voice entirely. the silence between them is thick, not with the formality of the court, but with the raw, heavy air of two people standing on the edge of a secret.
the silence in the sprawling bedchamber stretches on for a heartbeat, heavy and charged with a sudden, electric intimacy. the flickering candlelight casts long shadows across the polished stone floor, illuminating the dust motes dancing in the air between them.
the queen freezes, her fingers lightly gripping the silk fabric of her robe. for the first time since she can remember, the impenetrable armor of her royal duty has completely dissolved, leaving her bare to the world—and worse, bare in front of him. her heart gives a strange, painful lurch against her ribs. this isn't how things are supposed to go. sovereigns do not receive chaotic, straw-hatted pirates in their private quarters past midnight, dressed in soft loungewear instead of glittering gold and jewels.
she expects to feel angry, or at least deeply unsettled by the intrusion. instead, as she looks at luffy—at the genuine, unreadable depth in his dark eyes and the unusual hesitation in his posture—a profound wave of vulnerability washes over her, threatening to crack the dam she has built around her emotions for a lifetime.
luffy, for his part, stands frozen in the doorway. all his bravado, all his loud proclamations about wanting answers and wanting to crack the case, seem to evaporate into thin air. up close, stripped of the imposing crown and the intimidating throne, she doesn't look like a distant, untouchable deity ruling over ancient sands. she looks like a person. a person carrying a weight so heavy it’s crushing her from the inside out.
"you're not wearing your crown," luffy says quietly, his voice lacking its usual boisterous volume, sounding almost gentle as he takes a hesitant step forward into the room.
the queen’s breath catches in her throat. she looks down at her hands, then back up at him, a bittersweet, self-deprecating smile touching the corners of her lips.
"no," she whispers, her voice barely louder than the desert wind outside the window. "royalty is a costume, luffy. one I have to wear every single day, from sunup to sundown. but when the doors close... when the lights go out..." she gestures vaguely to the empty, echoing room around them, "there is nothing left of me at all."
hearing those words—so painfully honest, so devoid of the pride kings and rulers always tried to project—hits luffy right in the chest. it reminds him of the dark, lonely places he’s seen people locked away in, places where freedom is just a word on a page. his jaw sets, and that stubborn, fierce determination that brought him down these dark corridors settles firmly back into place.
he walks further into the room, ignoring the lavish pillows and gold ornaments, and stops just a few feet away from her chair. he reaches up, adjusting his straw hat on his head, and looks straight into her eyes with a raw, disarming sincerity.
"then let's change that," luffy says simply, his gaze unyielding. "you said yesterday it's my feast, not yours. well... tonight, you don't gotta be a queen. just tell me your story."
for a fleeting second, her breath catches. then, she deliberately turns her face away, pulling her composure back around her shoulders like a fragile cloak. she lifts her chin, fixing her dark, melancholic gaze outward once more, staring blankly into the vast, silver-drenched expanse of the nocturnal desert as if he isn't even standing there.
"you have an overactive imagination, pirate," she murmurs, her voice meticulously hollow, trying desperately to mask the sudden, terrifying tremor in her chest. "a queen is never unhappy. power is its own fulfillment. you are simply misinterpreting what you see."
she thinks that will be the end of it. she expects him to drop it, to blink, to laugh it off with his usual carefree shrug and wander away.
instead, the heavy, soft sound of his sandals cutting across the marble floor shatters her illusion.
luffy doesn't step back. he walks right up beside her, closing the distance until he is standing shoulder-to-shoulder with her by the towering, unglazed window. he doesn't look at the desert; his dark, unblinking eyes remain fixed squarely on her profile, seeing right through the practiced, royal detachment she is fighting so hard to maintain.
"stop lying," luffy says, his tone completely flat, devoid of anger, but carrying an absolute, unyielding gravity that forces her to look at him. "i asked you a real question. why do you look so quiet? and why do you look so damn miserable, even with all this big castle and all this power?"
she turns her head sharply, a flash of defensive pride flaring in her dark eyes. no one dares speak to her this way. no one crosses the boundary of her sovereign status.
"and why on earth does it concern you so much?" she snaps back, her voice rising just a fraction, a defensive edge cutting through her sorrow. "why would a wandering pirate care about the internal state of a queen he met yesterday? you know nothing of my burdens!"
luffy doesn't flinch. he doesn't back down an inch. instead, he crosses his arms over his chest, his gaze locking onto hers with a fierce, stubborn intensity that makes her breath hitch.
"i've got my reasons," luffy replies stubbornly, his voice unwavering in the quiet room. "and i'm not the kind of guy who just lets it go when someone looks like they're locked in a cage—even if that cage is made of gold."
the queen lets out a long, shuddering breath, her shoulders sagging as the last remnants of her defenses crumble away. she realizes, with a quiet finality, that she can no longer pretend. not with him. not when those unblinking, perceptive eyes are looking right past her crown and seeing the broken pieces beneath.
she turns away from the window, walking slowly toward a low velvet seat near the center of the chamber. she sits down, folding her hands in her lap, and for a long moment, the only sound in the room is the crackle of the dying lamplight.
when she finally speaks, her voice is barely a whisper, carrying the weight of centuries.
"this country..." she begins, her dark eyes fixed on the floor, "is one of the oldest civilizations still present upon this earth. we were among the very first. but our traditions have never changed, frozen in time—hence the pyramids, built by hands that modern history has long since forgotten. my bloodline is the exact same line that sat upon the throne at the very dawn of our civilization."
she pauses, a heavy silence stretching between them. when she resumes, the true, dark narrative begins to unfold.
"this land overflows with secrets, luffy. forgotten history. those pyramids... they are not mere monuments. only our people possess the knowledge to construct them, just as we hold the secrets to creating ancient weapons capable of reshaping the world. we have watched every single shift, every war, and every change in the outer world from the shadow of our sands."
she looks up, her gaze hardening with a bitter sorrow.
"but that longevity, that ancient power... it does not please the world government. and the full weight of their wrath fell upon my family."
her voice remains eerily steady, devoid of self-pity, though her hands tighten slightly in her lap.
"my father was the king. he had a wife, two sons, and myself. we were a family, truly happy, shielded within our walls. but my father held a secret ambition—he wished to construct a new pyramid, a monument to a new era. somehow, word reached the ears of the world government."
she stops, her breath catching briefly before she continues, her tone chillingly flat.
"they ordered his assassination. and the execution of every member of my family. they wiped them out in a single night of blood and fire. Ii.. by some cruel twist of fate, I survived. pulled from the carnage by the man who is now my butler. and at barely thirteen years old, thrust onto the throne as the sole ruler of an ancient kingdom, entirely alone, with no one to guide me."
she looks up at luffy, her eyes dry, clear, and terrifyingly strong. through the entire recounting of the massacre of her family, her stolen childhood, and her life stripped bare by the world government, she does not shed a single tear. she carries her unimaginable trauma with the rigid, unbreakable pride of a true sovereign.
luffy stands frozen a few feet away, his chest tightening in a way it rarely ever does.
he watches her dry, unflinching eyes, and a deep, overwhelming wave of emotion crashes over him. he has faced monsters, tyrants, and men who crushed the weak, but seeing this young woman—who had been forced to bury her family at thirteen and sit in a golden cage ever since—refuse to cry while shouldering the entire world... it moves him more than words can express.
all the puzzle pieces finally click into place in his mind.
he understands why she looked so quiet. why she looked so miserable despite the gold and the power. she wasn't just lonely—she was a prisoner of a tragedy the world tried to erase, keeping watch over a tomb of a family she lost too soon.
the fierce, protective fire in luffy's chest blazes hotter than ever, and as he looks at her, the last of his doubts vanish. he finally understands everything.
the heavy silence lingers in the chamber, thick with the weight of centuries-old blood and a grief too vast for ordinary words. the queen sits rigidly, her hands still folded in her lap, bracing herself for the usual reactions she expects from outsiders—pity, fear, or tactical calculation.
instead, luffy doesn't look away, nor does he offer any empty platitudes or hollow comforts.
he takes a slow step closer, his dark eyes shining with an intense, unshakeable sincerity. when he speaks, his voice is steady and completely devoid of mockery.
"you didn't cry once," luffy says quietly, breaking the stillness. "even while telling me how they took everything from you, you kept standing. you stayed strong for your people, and you kept carrying this whole heavy country all by yourself since you were just a kid."
the queen’s breath hitches. her eyes widen slightly, a jolt of pure shock piercing through her calm facade.
she blinks, staring up at him as his words truly sink in. no one has ever looked past her crown to see the sheer, agonizing effort it took just to wake up every morning and breathe. no one has ever acknowledged the invisible armor she was forced to wear at thirteen years old.
before she can recover from her astonishment, luffy grins softly—a warm, genuine smile that reaches all the way to his eyes.
"man, you're amazing," luffy adds, nodding with absolute conviction, effortlessly throwing out a heartfelt compliment. "that makes you a really great woman."
the queen freezes. the words echo off the ancient stone walls, hitting her dead in the center of her chest with the force of a tidal wave.
for the first time in years, the impenetrable walls of the desert sovereign completely shatter. her breath catches sharply, her lips parting as a sudden, overwhelming warmth floods her veins, melting away the bitter ice of her isolation.
caught completely off guard by the raw, unfiltered sincerity of his praise, a sudden wave of flustered panic surges through the queen. her cheeks heat up, a rare, faint blush dusting her pale skin.
with a swift, instinctive motion, she reaches out and gently shoves his face aside with the back of her hand, turning her head away to hide the sudden storm of emotions brewing in her dark eyes.
"you... you are talking absolute nonsense!" she stammers slightly, her voice losing its icy composure as she tries desperately to drag her royal authority back into place. "that—that is merely my duty! a sovereign does not need to be praised for carrying her burden; it is simply what must be done!"
despite her scolding tone, the fierce, defensive edge is entirely gone, replaced by a sudden, flustered shyness that makes her look far closer to her actual age than a centuries-old ruler.
seeing her reaction, luffy bursts out laughing—a bright, booming, carefree sound that echoes warmly against the cold stone walls of the chamber. he rubs his cheek where she pushed him, his grin stretching wider than ever.
"shishishi! yeah, sure! call it whatever you want, but you're still amazing," luffy chuckles, entirely unbothered by her flustered defense.
as the sound of his laughter fades into a soft, comfortable chuckle, the remaining tension between them completely dissolves. the heavy, suffocating isolation that had filled the room only moments ago is utterly replaced by an unspoken, magnetic understanding. sitting there in the quiet moonlight, looking at the reckless, smiling pirate who saw right through her golden cage, the queen feels a genuine, radiant warmth bloom in her chest for the first time in as long as she can remember.
luffy’s laughter quiets into a thoughtful hum as he watches her. the playful glint in his dark eyes softens, replaced by that rare, sharp intuition that always seems to cut straight to the heart of things.
he shifts his weight, leaning one shoulder casually against the window frame right next to her chair.
"hey," luffy asks, his voice dropping to a softer, more serious tone. "that thing your dad wanted to do... building a new pyramid. can you actually do it? is it possible?"
the queen blinks, caught off guard by the abrupt shift back to history. she looks up at him, her dark eyes reflecting the flickering candlelight. a bitter, self-deprecating smile touches her lips, and she looks back down at her hands.
"yes," she whispers, her voice tinged with a heavy, quiet exhaustion. "of course it is possible, luffy. the blueprints, the ancient techniques, the knowledge passed down through my bloodline... it is all still here. my people have the power to raise stone to the heavens just as we did at the dawn of time."
she pauses, her fingers tightening slightly against the soft silk of her robe. the proud sovereign vanishes, leaving only a deeply vulnerable young woman baring her greatest, most paralyzing fear.
"but... i have never found the mental strength to begin," she confesses, her voice trembling just a fraction. "every time i look at the designs, every time i think of raising a monument to a new era... terror grips my heart. my father sought to build a new pyramid, and it brought the wrath of the world government down upon our heads. it cost my family their lives. i am so terrified that if i try, if i dare to change anything... history will simply repeat itself. i am afraid of bringing that same doom upon my people all over again."
she closes her eyes, bracing herself for his reaction, expecting him to call her weak or overly cautious.
instead, luffy simply looks at her, the absolute warmth and unshakable confidence in his gaze melting away the icy dread choking her heart.
before she can sink any deeper into her fears, luffy reaches out. with a totally casual, completely natural gesture, he places his hand right on top of her head, giving her dark hair a friendly, affectionate ruffle—just like he would with any of his crewmates.
the queen’s eyes fly wide open in utter disbelief. a pirate... patting the supreme sovereign of an ancient empire on the head like an absolute child?
luffy pulls his hand back, flashing a wide, carefree grin as he lets out a booming laugh. "man, you're the queen of a whole ancient country, but you're worrying just like a little baby!" he teases good-naturedly.
for a split second, she sits frozen in sheer shock. then, hot indignation and absolute fluster flush across her cheeks.
"a—a baby?!" she gasps, her voice pitching up in outrage as she swings her hand out and gives his shoulder a sharp, indignant smack. "i am the sovereign of these sands! get out of my chamber this instant, you insolent pirate!"
despite the force of the hit—and her commanding order to leave—luffy doesn't look threatened in the slightest. instead, he just throws his head back and laughs even harder, dodging her playful swings with a wide, bright smile.
"alright, alright! i'm going, i'm going!" luffy chuckles, taking a few steps back toward the door while flashing her a reassuring wink.
as he slips back out into the quiet corridors, the heavy door clicking shut behind him, the queen stands there breathing heavily, her face burning. yet, beneath her exasperation, the cold weight in her chest is entirely gone, replaced by a strange, fluttering warmth.
meanwhile, as luffy walks back down the moonlit hallway toward his room, that warm, playful grin fades into a look of quiet, absolute determination. he’s got the whole picture now—and he’s safely locked that crucial piece of information away in his mind.
the next morning, the bright desert sun floods the palace courtyards, but luffy has no time to waste. fueled by a singular, burning purpose, he sprints through the sprawling, gold-inlaid corridors at top speed, leaving a trail of startled guards and echoing footsteps in his wake.
he spots his target out in the palace’s grand open-air workshop—a massive terrace overlooking the sands where the local artisans store their heavy tools and materials. there, standing over a complex set of blueprints with a massive wrench in hand, is franky.
"SUUUUPER morning to you, captain!" franky booms, striking his signature pose, flexing his robotic bicep as luffy skids to a halt in front of him.
without wasting a single second on pleasantries, luffy grabs franky by the collar of his Hawaiian shirt, pulling him down to eye level with an intensely serious, urgent expression. "franky! i need your help. we gotta build something. a big one. can you help me build a pyramid?"
franky blinks, dropping his wrench with a loud clatter as his jaw drops. "eh?! a pyra-what?! are you nuts, luffy?! we’re supposed to be resting in a palace, not starting a massive construction project in the middle of the desert!"
ignoring franky’s booming protests, luffy pulls away and dashes off just as fast as he arrived, darting back into the cool shade of the library. there, sitting quietly at a mahogany table surrounded by towering stacks of ancient manuscripts, is robin.
luffy skids to a halt beside her chair, leaning in close so the nearby ministers and palace staff won't overhear. his dark eyes are fierce, flashing with absolute determination.
"robin," luffy whispers sharply, pointing a finger at her. "i've got a plan. i need you to help me figure out the rest of the stuff from these books, but you gotta promise me—don't tell anyone else what we're doing. especially not nami or zoro, and definitely not the queen!"
robin looks up from her ancient text, her blue eyes widening slightly in surprise. for a brief moment, she studies her captain’s unyielding face, piecing together the events of the previous night, the history she had hinted at, and the sudden, reckless ambition burning in his eyes.
a slow, knowing, and deeply fond smile spreads across robin’s face. she closes her book with a soft thud and rests her chin on her hand.
" secrecy, huh?" robin murmurs softly, her voice carrying a quiet, conspiratorial amusement. "well, captain... a good historian always knows how to keep a secret, especially when a grand adventure is at stake. count me in."
under the cover of the scorching desert midday, a clandestine operation begins away from the main palace halls. guided by robin's sharp translation of ancient architectural texts and franky's unmatched engineering genius, luffy slips away to the secluded outskirts of the royal grounds where the master pyramid builders of the old civilization live and work.
at first, the veteran local carpenters are utterly baffled by the strange, energetic cyborg with a star on his nose and the reckless pirate captain demanding they start laying stone blocks immediately. but as franky enthusiastically matches their traditional techniques with his own blueprint genius, and as luffy speaks with an absolute, unyielding conviction about honoring the past without letting it cage them, the master builders are won over. whispering among themselves in awe, they agree to the secret night-time construction project, determined to help build a new pyramid behind the queen's back.
back inside the palace, keeping the secret is a delicate dance. the only accomplice on the inside is the royal butler. when the seasoned servant catches wind of what the eccentric pirates are plotting out in the sands, a rare, amused smirk touches his stoic lips. he thinks it's an impossible, utterly absurd joke—yet, seeing the way the captain's raw determination has breathed life back into the silent halls, he decides to play along, keeping a watchful eye on the queen and guarding the secret with his life.
which proves to be a necessary task, because the queen herself is growing restless.
throughout the day, as she attends to state meetings and reviews minor petitions, her mind keeps drifting. twice during council hours, she pauses mid-sentence, looking around the sprawling hall before quietly turning to her butler.
"where is luffy?" she asks, trying to keep her tone formal and indifferent, though her dark eyes scan the room in search of that familiar straw hat. "have you seen the captain of the straw hat pirates this morning?"
the butler maintains his absolute composure, politely bowing his head as he offers a vague, practiced excuse about the pirate wandering the palace grounds. but as he watches the subtle disappointment flash across her face when she realizes he isn't around, the butler notes something profound. the formidable, isolated queen who once felt nothing at all is now actively searching for a boy, her heart slowly and unmistakably tethering itself to a pirate who refuses to let her stay caged.
down in the sun-baked quarry just beyond the palace walls, the secret construction site is a whirlwind of roaring energy and heavy labor. master stone-cutters work in synchronized rhythm, and franky is in his absolute element, barking enthusiastic orders while lifting massive limestone blocks with sheer cyborg power.
and then there is luffy.
sitting comfortably on top of a stack of freshly carved stone blocks with his straw hat tilted down, luffy is doing a magnificent job of contributing virtually nothing. every time he tries to help carry a block, he accidentally trips or tries to bounce it like a ball, prompting franky to yell at him to get out of the way before he crushes someone. rather than taking offense, luffy just laughs, kicks his legs back, and munches on a stolen cluster of desert grapes, completely content to supervise and cheer them on with unbridled enthusiasm.
meanwhile, back inside the cool, echoing halls of the palace, the atmosphere is entirely different.
the queen finds herself wandering aimlessly down the grand corridors, feeling a heavy, unfamiliar restlessness settle deep in her chest. she dismisses her guards, brushes off her ministers, and paces slowly through the golden chambers. for the first time in her life, state affairs feel utterly dull and meaningless. her mind keeps drifting back to the previous night—to the warm weight of his hand on her head, his fearless gaze, and the booming, carefree sound of his laughter.
she stops near a high arched balcony overlooking the outer courtyards, scanning the vast estate for any sign of that familiar straw hat.
she wants to see him. she catches herself actively looking for him around every corner, her heart skipping a quiet beat every time a distant voice echoes down the hall, only to be met with disappointment when it isn't him. the realization hits her with a sudden, gentle shock: she isn't just lonely anymore. she is actively missing him, her heart slowly breaking out of its ancient, golden cage to follow a reckless, smiling pirate into the sun.
out in the dusty warmth of the secret work site, while franky shouts instructions about structural weight limits to the local masons, luffy leans back against a cool slab of limestone and stares up at the bright blue sky, a soft, unfamiliar smile tugging at the corners of his lips.
he rests his hands behind his head, his thoughts drifting away from the construction blueprints and landing squarely on the young woman sitting alone in the golden palace.
he realizes, with a quiet, sudden clarity, just how much he's enjoying all of this. usually, luffy's mind moves at a million miles an hour, chasing adventure, meat, and the next island on the horizon. but ever since he stepped into her chambers, everything changed. he loves the way her dark eyes flash with sudden life when she argues with him. he loves shattering that cold, untouchable royal facade just to watch her get flustered, stammer, and swing a half-hearted punch at his shoulder. most of all, he loves hearing that rare, genuine sound of her laughing—pulling her away from the heavy, suffocating ghosts of her past and bringing her right back to the present.
she isn't just another royal in trouble to him anymore. she's someone special. someone he wants to see smile without any sorrow weighing her down.
with a soft, determined grin, luffy pops another grape into his mouth and springs back to his feet, more motivated than ever to finish this crazy project and show her that the future doesn't have to be a cage.
the evening shadows stretch long and deep across the palace floors as dusk settles over the ancient desert. inside the grand halls, an unusual and terrifying tension hangs in the air.
the queen is on the warpath.
marching briskly through the corridors with her guards scrambling to keep pace, her face is an absolute mask of sharp, cold frustration. she has spent the entire day searching every room, garden, and courtyard for a certain straw-hatted pirate, only to come up completely empty-handed. her worry has steadily boiled over into a simmering, anxious anger.
palace ministers flatten themselves against the walls as she passes, terrified to even breathe in her direction. even the straw hat crew—who happen to be gathered near the main lounge—freeze in their tracks as they spot her approaching.
nami gulps, instinctively stepping back. "uh... guys? what did luffy do this time? she looks ready to execute someone!"
zoro rests a hand on the hilt of his swords, narrowing his eyes. "knowing him? probably tried to eat the crown jewels or accidentally declared war on the entire desert."
robin, however, just sips her tea with a calm, knowing smirk, entirely unbothered by the royal panic.
just as the queen rounds a sharp corner near the private residential wing, she stops dead in her tracks.
there, leaning casually against a stone pillar with dirt smudged on his cheek and a wide, innocent grin on his face, is luffy.
for a split second, the fierce, frustrated glare on the queen's face falters. all the anxious pacing, all the hours of agonizing worry wondering where he had vanished to, crash over her at once. the terrifying, untouchable sovereign completely melts away in an instant.
before luffy can even say hello, she rushes the final few steps toward him, grabbing the lapels of his vest. her dark eyes are wide, swimming with a mixture of profound relief and raw, unmasked panic.
"where on earth were you all day?!" she demands, her voice trembling slightly despite her best efforts to sound stern, her grip tightening on his clothes. "i looked everywhere for you! did something happen? were you hurt?!"
caught completely off guard by her intense panic and the tight grip on his vest, luffy blinks, suddenly realizing he might have miscalculated how worried she would be. he quickly slaps on a wide, breezy grin, trying to look as casual as possible.
"whoa, hey! calm down, i'm totally fine!" luffy laughs, rubbing the back of his neck with one hand. "nothing happened! i was just... you know, exploring! walking around and checking out the cool architecture and stuff! everything's totally under control!"
the queen narrows her eyes instantly, her sharp instincts picking up on his clumsy deflection. she lets go of his vest, but her gaze drops down—and freezes.
she notices the faint smudges of dark desert dust and limestone powder smeared across his cheek, along with a tiny scratch on his knuckle.
"exploring?" she repeats, her voice dropping into a skeptical, dangerous register as she steps closer and points an accusing finger at his cheek. "if you were merely taking a casual stroll through the palace gardens, pray tell, why are you covered in construction dust and stone powder? what have you been up to, luffy?"
luffy flinches slightly, sweating under her intense, interrogating stare. his brain scrambles frantically to come up with an alibi before she discovers the secret pyramid project.
"uh... well! you see..." luffy stammers, his eyes darting frantically around the hallway before landing on a passing decorative vase. "i—i was fighting a super fierce underground mole monster! yeah! a giant desert mole broke into the palace basement and tried to steal your favorite rugs, so i had to wrestle it all the way outside!"
he nods vigorously, trying to sell the ridiculous lie with absolute, deadpan seriousness.
the queen stares at him in absolute silence. for a long, agonizing moment, she looks between his dusty face, the ridiculous excuse, and his completely earnest expression.
she expects herself to see right through the blatant lie. instead, looking at his completely absurd face, her suspicious glare slowly crumbles. a soft, helpless sigh escapes her lips, and she presses two fingers to the bridge of her nose, shaking her head.
"a desert mole..." she repeats flatly, though the tension in her shoulders completely evaporates. "you truly are impossible, luffy."
she gives up trying to make sense of his chaotic logic, a faint, fond smile breaking through her exhaustion as she realizes she's entirely incapable of staying mad at him.
as the cool desert night settles over the palace once more, the heavy oak doors click shut behind them, sealing away the rest of the world. the tension from earlier completely melts away, replaced by a quiet, comfortable ease that feels almost entirely natural.
they end up sitting together near the sprawling window of her chamber, the silver moonlight spilling across the floor and bathing the room in a soft, ethereal glow.
luffy, completely relaxed, sprawls out across the plush carpet and starts talking a mile a minute. he recounts wild tales from his adventures across the grand line—tales of giant whales, floating islands, fiery explosions, and bizarre creatures that sound like pure myth. he talks for hours, his hands gesturing wildly, his voice filled with that infectious, boundless passion.
and she doesn't interrupt him once. leaning back against the edge of her seat with her knees pulled up slightly, her chin resting in her hand, she just watches him. for hours, she listens, completely mesmerized. the quiet ache of loneliness that used to haunt these four walls is entirely gone, replaced by the warm, steady rhythm of his voice echoing in the stillness.
as the night deepens, luffy’s rambling finally slows down. he trails off, propping his chin on his hands as he looks up at her from where he sits on the floor.
his dark eyes linger on her face, catching the way the moonlight highlights her features. she has always been undeniably, breathtakingly beautiful, even behind her cold royal armor. but right now, sitting here in the quiet intimacy of the late hour, stripped of all pretense and looking down at him with such soft, un guarded eyes, it hits him differently. it’s an intimacy that feels deeper, raw and completely real.
without a second thought, luffy says what’s on his mind, just like he did the very first time.
"you know..." luffy murmurs softly, a genuine, lopsided smile spreading across his face, his gaze warm and unblinking. "you're really pretty when you look at me like that. you should smile more often, you look way better without that scary queen face."
the words hang in the quiet air, simple and completely unfiltered.
for a second, her breath catches in her throat. her cheeks flush a sudden, warm pink, and her heart gives a violent, skipped beat. but instead of panicking or trying to hide behind her royal dignity, a soft, radiant smile blooms across her face—a true, dazzling smile born from the heart, completely erasing every trace of sorrow she had carried for years.
a soft, melodic laugh escapes her lips—a sound so light and genuine that it feels like a miracle in this ancient, echoing room. completely overwhelmed by the warmth in his gaze and her own fluttering heartbeat, she lifts a plush velvet cushion and buries her face straight into it, desperately trying to hide the deep blush burning across her cheeks.
seeing her reaction, luffy bursts out with a bright, carefree chuckle.
"hey, no fair hiding!" he laughs, scrambling up from the floor.
without a second thought for royal etiquette or personal space, luffy casually climbs right onto the grand, royal bed. he flops down comfortably onto the mattress directly beside her, resting his head on his arms as he leans in closer. completely unbothered by her flustered state, he picks right up where he left off, launching into another rambling story about a bizarre island full of giant animals.
he keeps talking, his voice a steady, soothing hum in the quiet night.
minute by minute, the tense rigidity of her shoulders slowly gives way. the muffled giggles behind her cushion subside into even, gentle breathing. the exhaustion of carrying a kingdom—and the emotional weight of a long, stressful day—finally catches up to her.
realizing the room has gone quiet, luffy turns his head.
he stops talking, propping himself up on one elbow to look at her. the cushion has slipped slightly from her grip, revealing her face. she is completely fast asleep, the lingering lines of sorrow and heavy burden completely erased from her expression. in the moonlight, she looks entirely at peace, breathing softly and deeply for the first time in years.
luffy’s expression softens entirely. a quiet, tender warmth fills his chest as he watches her sleep, marveling at how peaceful she looks right now.
with a small, fond smile, luffy settles back down onto the pillows beside her, pulling his arms behind his head. staring up at the dark, vaulted ceiling for a few quiet moments, his eyelids grow heavy, and surrounded by the gentle warmth of the ancient palace, the carefree pirate finally drifts off to sleep right by her side.
the following morning, the brilliant rays of the desert sun barely have time to pierce through the high stained-glass windows before absolute chaos erupts in the royal residential wing.
a loud, piercing shriek echoes down the ancient stone corridors, rattling the golden sconces and making the entire palace tremble.
it is a young chambermaid, who has just unlocked the heavy double doors to deliver the queen’s morning linens. frozen in sheer terror and disbelief, her jaw drops as she stares at the bed. there, sprawled out comfortably across the royal mattress alongside the sleeping sovereign, is the straw-hatted pirate, snoring softly with a strand of drool escaping his lips.
news of the unthinkable sight spreads through the sprawling halls like wildfire in seconds. no one—not a single advisor, minister, or noble in centuries—has ever been permitted to step foot inside the queen's private chambers, let alone sleep in her bed.
attracted by the sudden commotion, several members of the straw hat crew come jogging down the hallway to investigate.
nami stops dead in her tracks, clutching her head in absolute despair. "are you kidding me?! did he sleep in the queen'sbed?!" she groans, looking like she's about to pass out. "we're going to be executed by firing squad before breakfast!"
zoro crosses his arms, letting out a heavy, long-suffering sigh. "idiot. he actually went and got us all sentenced to death."
nearby, a squad of royal guards grips the hilts of their scimitars, their faces red with fury and scandal, whispering furiously among themselves about how this insolent pirate must have taken advantage of their monarch. sanji, standing at the back of the group, is utterly paralyzed, his eyes turning into giant, swirling hearts of sheer, incandescent jealousy mixed with total shock.
just as the tension reaches a boiling point and the guards raise their weapons to storm the room, the heavy oak door creaks open.
luffy steps out into the hallway, rubbing his eyes with the back of his hand and letting out a massive, unbothered yawn. he looks completely carefree, as if he just woke up from a nap on the Thousand Sunny, completely oblivious to the hundreds of wide, staring eyes fixed on him.
before the guards can lunges forward to seize him, another sound stops them cold.
steps echo from inside the room. the queen steps out onto the threshold, wrapped in her royal silk robe. her hair is slightly mussed from sleep, but her posture is straight, and her dark eyes carry a calm, commanding authority.
the entire hallway holds its breath, waiting for the fury of an insulted monarch to strike.
instead, the queen looks out over the terrified crowd of guards and the frozen, panicking crew, her gaze finally landing softly on luffy. a faint, delicate blush warms her cheeks, but her voice rings clear, steady, and entirely composed through the silent corridor.
"lower your weapons," she commands the guards, her tone leaving no room for argument. she glances back toward her chambers, then meets the eyes of the stunned crew. "he had every right to be here. he merely... stayed to tell me stories."
the heavy silence that follows her declaration is absolute.
for three long seconds, not a single person in the corridor breathes. the guards exchange bewildered, wide-eyed glances, their raised swords slowly lowering back into their scabbards. nami’s jaw drops so low it practically touches the stone floor, while zoro raises an eyebrow in quiet, stunned amusement. sanji collapses dramatically against a pillar, clutching his chest as if he’s just been struck by a cannonball, muttering about how an ancient queen fell for his captain before fainting entirely.
everyone in the hallway—from the royal guards to the entire straw hat crew—suddenly sees it with crystal-clear, blinding transparency.
there is definitely something going on between them.
the tension, the protectiveness, the fact that the most isolated, untouchable monarch on earth just casually invited a reckless pirate to sleep in her royal bed just to "listen to stories"—it all adds up instantly to anyone with eyes.
yet, standing right there side-by-side, the two people at the center of the universe-shattering realization are completely, blissfully oblivious.
luffy blinks, scratching his head with a blank, innocent look on his face, entirely unaware of why everyone is staring at them like they just witnessed a miracle. "hm? what's with everyone looking at us like that? did you guys run out of meat for breakfast?"
beside him, the queen feels a sudden surge of intense embarrassment at the collective, knowing stares of the crew and her guards. her cheeks flare bright red, and she quickly turns her head away, clearing her throat to hastily hide her fluster behind a mask of strict royal dignity.
"ehem! nothing!" she snaps, though her voice lacks any real authority, only serving to confirm everyone's suspicions even more. she quickly turns back toward her chambers, muttering something about morning council duties before slipping back inside and shutting the door with a sharp click.
luffy watches her go with a bright, easy smile, completely missing the tidal wave of unspoken romantic tension hanging thick in the air, while the rest of the crew exchanges a collective, knowing grin, realizing their captain has accidentally conquered a queen without even figuring out what love is yet.
the blazing desert sun beats down on the bustling construction site, casting long, sharp shadows across the massive, newly raised blocks of limestone. it is the final day—the capstone of the grand pyramid is prepped and ready to be hoisted into place, marking the completion of a miracle built entirely in secret.
out in the dust, franky is shouting triumphant instructions through a megaphone while coordinating the team of local master carpenters, and robin stands nearby, calmly checking the ancient geometric measurements against the fresh masonry.
and then there is luffy.
sitting lazily on an overturned crate with his legs swinging back on a high scaffolding beam, luffy is—once again—contributing precisely zero percent to the actual labor. he pops a final desert grape into his mouth, watches franky hoist a massive stone pillar with cyborg strength, and then tilts his head with a curious hum.
he hops down from the scaffolding, wandering over to where robin and franky are standing.
"hey," luffy asks, his tone completely casual as he points a thumb back toward the direction of the palace. "tell me something. does the queen have a husband or a boyfriend or anything like that?"
robin isn't surprised in the least. she pauses, a soft, knowing smile touching her lips as she closes her ancient scroll. she’s seen the way the captain's universe has tilted over the past few days, and she expected this question sooner or later.
"no, captain," robin answers smoothly, her blue eyes gleaming with quiet amusement. "she has no husband. she has always stood entirely alone, carrying the burden of her crown by herself."
franky stops wrestling with a heavy steel cable, turning around with a loud, booming laugh, resting his massive hands on his hips. "wahahaha! a husband?! out of nowhere, you're asking about her love life, luffy?! why're you suddenly curious about that, huh?"
luffy crosses his arms, looking completely earnest as he tilts his head up at them, giving it some serious thought.
"well... she shouldn't be alone all the time," luffy says simply, his voice entirely devoid of hesitation or embarrassment. "she works way too hard and she's always looking so lonely."
he blinks, a completely innocent, carefree grin spreading across his face as he poses the ultimate question:
"hey... do you think i'd make a good husband for her?"
robin lets out a soft, elegant laugh, covering her mouth with her hand as her shoulders shake with quiet, genuine amusement at her captain's utterly unfiltered audacity.
beside her, franky freezes mid-pose. his robotic jaw practically unhinges, dropping all the way to the dusty ground with a loud clank.
"EH?!" franky screeches, his voice echoing across the entire quarry as he points an accusing, metallic finger right at luffy’s chest. "are you completely out of your mind, luffy?! you can't just casually ask if you'd make a good husband for a reigning monarch like you're ordering a plate of meat at a tavern! do you even know what being a husband entails—especially to a queen?!"
franky crosses his arms, shaking his head in disbelief as he starts counting off on his fingers, slipping into a surprisingly serious big-brother lecture mode.
"listen to me, captain! being a husband means responsibilities! it means commitment! and we're not just talking about any normal couple here—she rules an entire ancient nation! if you marry a queen... that makes you a king!" franky throws his hands up in exasperation. "you'd be the ruler of a whole country! could you imagine the paperwork?! the diplomatic summits?! the endless state dinners where you can't just inhale all the food off the table?!"
luffy listens to the long list of heavy responsibilities, blinking slowly as he tilts his head. he doesn't look panicked or overwhelmed at all; instead, he just crosses his arms, pondering the idea of being a king with absolute casualness.
before luffy can reply to franky's chaotic rant, a low, respectful voice cuts through the dust.
one of the veteran master carpenters, an older man with weathered skin and kind eyes who has spent the last week watching the strange pirate crew work alongside them, steps forward. he leans on his wooden cane, offering luffy a warm, knowing smile.
"don't listen to the cyborg's shouting, young man," the master builder says gently, his voice carrying the deep wisdom of the desert. "being a king isn't about sitting on a throne or shuffling papers. it's about the heart."
the carpenter looks back toward the distant, golden spires of the royal palace, his expression softening.
"i have lived in these lands for many decades, and i have served under generations of rulers. for as long as i can remember, our queen has only ever known sorrow, cold duty, and isolation. but these past few days... ever since you arrived, she has laughed more than she has in her entire life. she looks alive."
he turns his steady, approving gaze back to luffy, resting a hand over his heart.
"i may not know much about pirates, but i know people. you may not act like a traditional king, and you certainly don't care about rules... but i have no doubt at all. if you were to stand by her side, you would treat her better than anyone else ever could."
the desert wind whistles through the half-finished pillars, carrying the scent of dry sand and limestone dust. robin, her expression uncharacteristically curious, steps closer to her captain. she crosses her arms, her blue eyes scanning his face with a gentle, probing intensity.
"luffy," she asks, her voice soft and direct. "this urge to protect her, to build her monuments, to stay by her side... have you stopped to ask yourself why? are you... in love with her?"
the query hangs in the air, heavier than any stone block they’ve moved all week. luffy tilts his head, his brow furrowing as he dives into an uncharacteristically long, silent reflection. he thinks about the way her eyes light up when he makes her laugh, her sharp wit during their debates, the regal charisma that commands an entire nation, and the way she looks when she’s just being herself, quiet and beautiful in the moonlight.
he nods, his face breaking into a wide, honest, and completely unreserved grin. "yeah," he says simply, his voice firm and certain. "she’s pretty, she’s smart, she’s funny, and she’s got a really cool aura. yeah, i think i am."
the absolute bluntness of his confession hits the group like a shockwave. robin lets out a genuine, bell-like laugh that echoes across the quarry, while franky’s sunglasses fall off his face in sheer disbelief. even the master carpenter lets out a hearty, approving chuckle, shaking his head at the refreshing honesty of the young pirate.
franky wipes a comedic tear of shock from his eye, looking at his captain as if he’s seeing a new person. "oi, oi, oi! you’re just gonna drop a bomb like that?! look, luffy, if you’re actually in love with a queen, you can’t just stand around here piling rocks! you gotta tell her! that’s how these things work!"
luffy stands up, dusting his hands off with a look of sudden, intense determination. the carefree boy is gone, replaced by the captain who never goes back on his word.
"you're right," luffy declares, nodding vigorously. "i’m gonna be her husband! i’ll go ask her right now... actually, no. i’ll do it tomorrow when the pyramid is finished! i'm gonna ask her to marry me!"
the three onlookers freeze.
"TOMORROW?!" franky screams, his voice cracking. "that’s literally in twenty-four hours! you don't even have a ring! you don't have a plan! you can't just propose to a sovereign head of state on a whim!"
luffy just shrugs, unbothered by the sheer absurdity of his own timeline. he’s already walking back toward the palace, his pace brisk and his eyes burning with a singular, chaotic focus. he’s not joking, and he’s not holding back—the pirate king-to-be has officially decided, and he’s going to make it happen.
determined not to waste a single second, luffy marches straight back into the palace, bypassing the grand halls and heading directly toward the inner administrative chambers where the royal butler is currently organizing documents.
bursting through the heavy doors without so much as a knock, luffy walks right up to the bewildered servant. two elite royal guards stationed by the doorway immediately cross their spears, glaring down at the pirate with sharp hostility.
"halt, pirate!" one guard barks. "state your business or—"
"i'm gonna marry her," luffy announces casually, pointing a thumb over his shoulder. "i'm proposing tomorrow."
the two guards freeze instantly. their eyes bulge out of their heads, their jaws drop, and a collective, explosive gasp escapes their throats as they stagger backward, nearly tripping over their own ceremonial armor in sheer, unadulterated shock. marry the queen?!
meanwhile, the royal butler doesn't even blink.
for a long moment, the seasoned servant simply looks at luffy—at the dirt on his vest, the absolute seriousness in his dark eyes, and the fierce, undeniable determination radiating off him. a quiet, knowing smile slowly spreads across the butler’s face. after keeping watch over them for days, he isn't surprised in the least. it was only a matter of time before this chaotic, golden-hearted pirate reached this exact conclusion.
the butler sets down his quill, walks over to a heavy mahogany safe behind his desk, and unlocks it with a small brass key.
he reaches inside and pulls out a small, velvet-lined box. opening it carefully, he reveals a breathtaking, vintage ring. the band is forged from ancient, polished gold, holding a rare, deep-blue gemstone that glimmers like the desert night sky.
"this," the butler says softly, holding the box out toward luffy with a respectful bow of his head, "belonged to her late mother. long ago, it was given by the former king to our queen's mother as a symbol of an unbreakable bond."
the butler looks up, meeting luffy's steady gaze with a warm, approving look. "she has carried the weight of this kingdom in absolute isolation for far too long. if you truly intend to stand by her side... take it. use it well, young captain."
luffy looks down at the ring, blinking in surprise before a wide, brilliant grin splits across his face. he takes the box, nods firmly, and tucks it away safely, ready to shake the entire ancient kingdom to its core.
the stage is officially set.
with the butler's silent blessing and the vintage gold-and-sapphire ring safely tucked away in his pocket, luffy returns to the secret worksite under the cover of the desert dusk. working through the night alongside franky, robin, and the tireless master carpenters, the final touches are put on the monumental structure.
by dawn, the grand pyramid stands completed—a towering, magnificent testament to history, rebuilt not as a cold tomb, but as a breathtaking monument to a new beginning, hidden just out of sight of the royal guards.
the plan for tomorrow is locked in.
when the sun crests over the dunes, luffy is going to lead the queen out to the edge of the desert, show her the incredible secret they’ve built in the shadows, and ask the woman who stole his heart to spend the rest of her life by his side.
the atmosphere in the palace is electric, vibrating with a nervous, frantic energy that the queen feels but cannot quite place. all day, she has been shuffled from one chamber to another—subjected to an endless, exhausting stream of ritualized baths, aromatic oil treatments, and elaborate hair preparations.
her head maids, usually so reserved, are vibrating with excitement, murmuring about how she "simply must look her best" for the evening. every time she asks why, they just offer giggling, vague answers. to top it off, the butler insisted she retire early and alone, claiming it was for "rejuvenation for the coming ceremonies."
she spent half the night staring at the ceiling, feeling antsy, wanting to find luffy, but having to settle for the quiet of her own thoughts.
the following morning, the palace is in an uproar of activity. word has been sent out to every corner of the estate: a grand gala is being held tonight. the butler has announced it as a formal inauguration for a newly discovered, sacred tomb on the outskirts of the royal grounds.
it is a perfect, ironclad lie. the queen, ever the dutiful monarch, believes it to be a necessary state function, even if she finds the sudden, bustling excitement of the palace staff highly unusual.
what she doesn't know—and what the butler, franky, robin, and the select few chambermaids are guarding with their lives—is that the "tomb" isn't a dusty reliquary of the dead.
as the sun begins its slow, golden descent toward the horizon, the entire palace court begins to gather, dressed in their finest ceremonial silks. everyone is buzzing with curiosity, whispering about the secret discovery, completely unaware that they are about to witness the most scandalous, heartwarming, and historic proposal the kingdom has ever seen.
luffy stands at the edge of the courtyard, his straw hat tipped low, his hand resting securely in his pocket over the small velvet box. he watches the grand procession of nobles and guards starting to move toward the outskirts, his heart hammering against his ribs. he’s not nervous about being a pirate, or a king, or a husband. he’s just worried that she’ll say yes before he can finish his whole speech—because he’s really, really excited to ask.
the stage is set. the sun is dying, and the future is about to begin.
the golden hour paints the desert in shades of amber and violet. the queen glides toward the gathering point, her royal regalia flowing behind her, her eyes scanning the crowd until they land on the one person she truly wanted to see. when she spots luffy, the formal composure she’s maintained all day melts into a genuine, radiant smile.
"luffy!" she calls out, walking up to him, her voice light with anticipation. "you made it. are you excited? the butler said this discovery is significant, though i must admit, i’m still wondering why the entire court had to be summoned for a tomb inauguration."
luffy stands before her, uncharacteristically still. he doesn't laugh, he doesn't fidget, and he doesn't crack a joke about the food. he just looks at her—really looks at her—with a steady, quiet intensity that causes the surrounding chatter of the court and his own crew to fade into a dull hum.
the queen’s smile falters, replaced by a sudden, fluttery confusion. "luffy? is something wrong?"
he doesn't answer. the silence stretches, thick and heavy with intent, until even the courtiers behind them stop whispering. he takes a slow step closer, his expression shifting from his usual carefree brightness into something deeper, more grounded.
"you remember," he starts, his voice low and steady, carrying clearly in the stillness. "you told me you wanted to build a new pyramid. but you were scared. you said you didn't know if the kingdom was ready, or if you were ready."
the queen’s breath hitches. her heart begins to hammer against her ribs like a trapped bird, a sudden, intuitive realization dawning on her that the air around them has changed, turning every sound into a distant echo as time itself seems to hold its breath for them.
"i haven't stopped thinking about that," luffy continues, his gaze locked onto hers, burning with an unshakeable warmth that makes the rest of the world completely disappear. "i didn't want you to be afraid anymore. so, i decided to do it for you."
at his signal, franky—hidden behind a nearby ridge—pulls a massive, camouflaged canvas covering with all his cyborg might. with a sound like rushing wind, the heavy fabric drops away, stirring up a golden cloud of fine desert dust that catches the dying light.
as the sun crests and hits the peak of the structure, the secret pyramid is revealed in its full, staggering glory. it isn't just a tomb; it is a breathtaking masterpiece of light and stone, reflecting the fading amber sun until the entire desert floor glows like liquid gold. the gasps from the courtiers are audible, a massive wave of collective shock rolling through the crowd, but the queen doesn't see them. she only sees the magnificent monument, and then, slowly, her gaze drifts back to luffy, her eyes shimmering with thick, unshed tears as the sheer weight of his impossible, beautiful gesture crashes over her with the force of an unstoppable tide.
without breaking eye contact, luffy reaches deep into his pocket, his fingers wrapping around the worn velvet box. he pulls it out slowly, his movements deliberate and uncharacteristically gentle, before flipping open the lid to reveal the antique gold ring and its deep blue sapphire, sparkling brilliantly against the twilight.
"i don't want you to carry the weight of this whole kingdom all by yourself anymore, luffy whispers, his voice carrying effortlessly across the breathless silence of the clearing. i want you to stop being scared. i want you to laugh every single day, come with me on my crazy adventures, and be completely, truly happy."
the queen’s hands fly up to cover her mouth, trembling violently as hot tears finally spill over her eyelashes and stream down her cheeks. behind them, the straw hat crew watches with intense, breathless emotion—nami pressing her hands to her glowing face with a watery sniffle, zoro crossing his arms with a rare, soft grin of profound respect, and franky openly wailing waterfalls of pure joy into a giant cloth.
luffy tilts his head slightly, a brilliant, tender smile breaking across his face—the familiar, goofy warmth returning to his features, mixed with a fierce, absolute devotion.
"so... will you marry me? i'm gonna be the best husband ever, i promise!"
a broken, breathless laugh slips past her lips, watery and completely uncontained. she shakes her head, helpless against the overwhelming tide of his charm, and without wasting another single heartbeat, she launches herself straight into his arms, burying her face into his shoulder while her fingers grip the fabric of his vest with desperate, fierce affection.
"oh my god...yes..." she whispers fiercely against his neck, her voice trembling and overflowing with love, "yes....yes! i'll marry you, luffy."
when luffy wraps his arms tightly around her waist, pulling her flush against him with a triumphant, beaming grin that stretches from ear to ear, a deafening cheer explodes from the crew and the gathered court alike, turning the quiet desert twilight into the warmest, happiest celebration the world has ever seen.
the rest of the straw hat crew is in an absolute, jaw-dropping state of total, unadulterated shock.
for a full five seconds after the queen’s breathless "yes" echoes across the desert, not a single one of them can process what their captain has just pulled off.
sanji, who had somehow managed to sneak into the front rows of the gathered nobility dressed in a sharp, custom-tailored white suit, instantly freezes mid-pose with a lit cigarette slipping right out of his mouth. his eyes turn into massive, cartoonish pools of water before he collapses backward onto the sand in a dramatic, full-body faint, wailing about how his inferior captain somehow managed to become a royal husband before he even got a single genuine smile from a lady.
chopper’s hooves fly up to his furry cheeks, his eyes bulging out as he spins in circles in a panic, shouting at the top of his lungs, "EH?! WE'RE GETTING A QUEEN?! DOES THAT MEAN WE LIVE IN A CASTLE NOW?! DO THEY HAVE A KITCHEN WITH INFINITE MEAT?!"
usopp grabs a nearby tree trunk—or in this case, a stone pillar—and shakes it violently while screaming bloody murder at the sky, pointing a shaky finger at luffy. "he actually did it! the lunatic actually just proposed to a monarch! is this a coup?! are we declaring war on global politics by getting engaged?! luffy, you idiot!"
brook lets out a sharp, theatrical gasp that rattles his ribs, adjusting his top hat as he plays a wildly dramatic, high-pitched chord on his violin. "yohohoho! to conquer a country’s heart without even knowing how to hold a fork properly! truly, our captain is a man among men! though, seeing as i have no eyes to cry, yuruhaha—sniff—i am still weeping for joy!"
even zoro, who usually acts like nothing in this world could ever phase him, has his mouth slightly open, staring at luffy with a mix of utter disbelief and profound, quiet respect. he slowly crosses his arms, a slow, bewildered chuckle escaping his chest as he shakes his head. "unbelievable. the guy goes out for a walk to look at some old rocks and comes back engaged to a queen."
nami, meanwhile, has completely abandoned any remaining composure. she’s sobbing openly into a handkerchief, alternating between glaring furiously at luffy for causing such a massive diplomatic headache and squealing with genuine, girlish excitement over the romance of it all.
the entire crew stands frozen in a hilarious cocktail of panic, awe, and sheer disbelief, realizing with terrifying clarity that their future as the pirate king's crew just got infinitely more complicated—and a whole lot louder.
luffy lets out a massive roar of pure triumph, throwing his arms up to the sky and bouncing all over the place, shaking the ground beneath his feet as he celebrates his romantic victory like he just found the one piece, completely unable to contain his frantic, bubbly excitement.
meanwhile, the queen, still buried against his shoulder, continues to cry tears of sheer relief and overwhelming happiness, her wet face pressed right against his vest.
the scene instantly shifts into total, hilarious chaos as the two elite royal guards, completely thrown off by the turn of events and losing all their professional composure, rush forward to swarm around them. they point their ceremonial spears awkwardly, glaring at the bouncing pirate with wide, panicked eyes.
"your majesty!" one of the guards yells out in a cold sweat, looking frantically between the hyperactive captain and the crying queen. "are you alright?! please, tell us the truth—did he threaten you or force you to accept?! did one of these pirates cast a spell on you or blackmail you into this?!"
the second guard chimes in immediately, throwing his hands up in a comical panic as his voice cracks with desperation:
"just give the order, your majesty! we can arrest him right now! just tell us if this is a kidnapping disguised as a proposal!"
the queen lifts her head from his shoulder, wiping the tears from her glowing cheeks with the back of her hand. her expression softens into a look of absolute, unshakeable certainty as she stares down the two terrified guards.
"no," she says clearly, a small, radiant smile breaking through her tears. "he's my husband."
the guards freeze, their jaws dropping to the sand as the sheer reality of her words sinks in. the entire courtyard goes dead silent for a single beat before erupting into roaring cheers.
what follows is a wedding ceremony that the world has never seen before and will never witness again—a magnificent, utterly chaotic celebration held at the heart of the country. tables groan under mountains of stolen meat and fine royal wine, franky builds a fireworks cannon shaped like luffy's head that explodes into giant straw hats across the night sky, and sanji tries (and fails) to cook for an entire nation while crying into his soup.
the ancient kingdom officially welcomes its brand-new, completely unorthodox king: monkey d. luffy.
when the news finally leaks out to the wider world through the morning newspapers, it hits the global powers like a tidal wave. Morgans and the world government can barely process the headlines—the infamous pirate captain hasn't just conquered islands, he's legally married a sovereign queen and taken the throne. To the rest of the world, it feels like a completely absurd, impossible dream.
and forever cementing his legendary, chaotic mark on history, the breathtaking monument standing tall in the desert sands is officially named the straw hat pyramid, proudly honoring the wild, golden-hearted pirate who built it just to make his queen stop being afraid.
later that night, under a sky lit by the dying embers of franky’s massive fireworks and the bright desert stars, the celebration winds down into a warm, relaxed gathering around the palace courtyard. the crew is scattered about, nursing drinks and still trying to comprehend that their captain is now a legitimate, crowned king.
zoro, leaning against a stone pillar with a bottle of sake in hand, glances over at luffy, who is currently balancing three plates of meat on his head.
"oi, captain," zoro calls out, his tone casual but laced with genuine curiosity. "now that the party's over and you've got yourself a whole country... what's the plan? you planning to stay here and play king, or are we setting sail again soon?"
before luffy can even swallow his meat, usopp chimes in from across the table, leaning forward with wide eyes. "yeah! and what about the queen?! you can't just drag a monarch onto a pirate ship, or can you?! what does she even say about all this?"
all the surrounding crew members stop what they're doing, turning their attention to their captain, waiting to see how the pirate king plans to handle his new royal domestic life.
luffy swallows his food with a loud gulp, flashing a wide, carefree grin as he adjusts his straw hat. he doesn't look stressed or conflicted in the slightest.
"hm? that's up to her," luffy replies simply, as if it's the most obvious thing in the world. "i'm gonna keep going, obviously. i'm gonna find the one piece and be king of the pirates! but this is her home. so whatever she wants to do, she decides. if she wants to come with us and sail the seas, she comes. if she wants to stay here, i'll always come back to visit her!"
the crew blinks, stunned for a second, before a few of them chuckle or smile at how perfectly, stubbornly luffy that answer is. it’s not an ultimatum or a grand royal decree—just pure, absolute freedom, exactly the way a pirate loves.
later that night, once the final embers of the celebration fade and the palace finally grows quiet, luffy and the newly crowned queen find themselves alone in the grand royal chambers—the very room that has now officially become shared quarters for the king and queen.
throughout the day, amidst the chaos of the wedding, the roaring crowds, and the endless feasts, luffy had just treated it like another great party. but as the heavy wooden doors close behind them, shutting out the rest of the world, it suddenly hits him.
the queen is standing by the grand balcony, looking out at the glittering expanse of the desert under the moonlight, gently unpinning the heavy royal mantle from her shoulders. she turns around, her dark eyes softening with a shy, breathless warmth as she looks at him.
luffy blinks, standing right in the middle of the luxurious room with his straw hat still on his head, staring at her with wide eyes.
"wait a minute," luffy says, pointing a finger straight at her, a sudden look of complete, child-like realization dawning on his face. "the butler said we were doing a 'wedding night' tonight... does that mean we're sleeping in the same bed now?! like, every night?!"
the queen bursts out laughing, a bright, melodic sound that echoes through the quiet stone walls, her cheeks flushing a soft, delicate pink. she shakes her head, walking over to him with a gentle, affectionate smile.
"yes, luffy," she murmurs, stepping close enough to gently reach up and adjust the brim of his straw hat. "that's what a wedding night is. we're husband and wife now."
luffy’s face lights up with a massive, goofy grin, completely losing any trace of his momentary panic. instead of being nervous, he grabs her hands, pulls her close with a carefree laugh, and beams down at her.
"oh! well, that's awesome! as long as there's enough room for me and my sleeping habits, this is the best night ever!"
and there, wrapped in each other's arms in the heart of the desert kingdom, the pirate king and his queen begin their forever, proving that even the wildest adventures sometimes lead to the sweetest rest.
in the soft candlelight illuminating the vast royal chamber, the atmosphere is quiet, bathed in the cool night breeze filtering through the open balcony doors.
luffy is sitting cross-legged on the edge of the grand canopy bed, observing his wife with a tender, uncharacteristic intensity, his eyes shining with pure affection. he can't help but break the gentle silence of the room.
"you know... you're really gorgeous," he blurts out with his usual unfiltered spontaneity, a warm smile spreading across his face. "you should wear that crown all the time, or at least dress like this whenever we eat meat."
the queen, sitting nearby, lets out a soft, amused laugh, her cheeks warming up at the compliment. but the atmosphere soon settles into something deeper as the reality of their new life together hangs between them. luffy scratches the back of his neck, adjusting his straw hat, and gently asks her what’s on his mind, offering her total freedom with zero pressure:
"and, uh... what about what you want to do? what's your plan?" he asks softly, looking right into her eyes. "do you want to stay here in your castle and take care of the kingdom, or do you want to come with me on the ship and see other islands? whatever you choose, i'll be happy, but i wanted to know... you just do whatever you feel like doing, okay?"
the queen stands up slowly, walking toward the bed and toward luffy. to her eyes, the sight of him sitting there waiting for her—so completely unpretentious yet entirely sincere—is breathtakingly beautiful. she stops right in front of him, looking down with a deadpan, chillingly cold expression.
"i'm coming with you," she says, her tone completely severe and freezing.
luffy blinks, taken aback by her sudden chilliness, leaning back slightly in pure surprise. "whoa! wait, are you serious? did you actually think about this, or are you just saying that?!"
a tiny, knowing smirk breaks through her cold facade as her expression softens into something deeply radiant.
"being a queen isn't just about hiding behind palace walls; it's about connecting my people to the outside world," she tells him softly, her eyes shining with quiet determination. "and besides, i think it's about time for me to go out and visit this vast world."
luffy stares at her, his surprise melting away into an expression of profound, absolute admiration. a wide, brilliant grin stretches across his face, completely awed by how incredible she is.
she reaches out, letting her fingers gently brush against his cheek as she leans in a little closer, her voice dropping to a tender whisper. "and... with you by my side, i'm not afraid anymore."
"shishishi! alright, then it's a deal!" luffy lets out a light, carefree laugh, his eyes curving into bright crescents of pure joy. he reaches out and pulls her gently down onto the bed, wrapping his arms securely around her. "don't worry about a thing. with me around, i'll protect you with my life!"
hearing those words—simple, absolute, and spoken with the unwavering conviction of a future pirate king—makes her heart swell until it feels fit to burst. she smiles against his shoulder, letting out a soft, contented breath.
they wrap their arms around each other, holding one another close in the quiet, candlelit sanctuary of the royal room, and drift off to a deep, peaceful sleep together.
the next morning, however, absolute chaos erupts across the entire palace.
news sweeps through the halls like wildfire: the newly crowned queen is leaving the kingdom. not to visit a neighboring province or inspect a nearby oasis, but to set sail across the dangerous, unpredictable seas on a pirate ship.
panic and disbelief grip the court instantly. ministers run down the marble corridors dropping their scrolls, courtiers clutch their chests in utter horror, and the royal guards look ready to faint all over again. the people of the country are terrified for their beloved sovereign, whispering in anxious knots outside the palace gates, utterly paralyzed by the terrifying thought of their queen venturing out into a world ruled by monsters, marines, and madmen.
the rest of the straw hat crew is completely stunned when the news reaches them that the queen is actually packing her bags to join their voyage. while they are initially wide-eyed and shocked at the sheer madness of a reigning monarch turning into a seafaring pirate, a wave of genuine warmth settles over them. seeing their captain grinning ear-to-ear, proudly standing side-by-side with his new wife, makes it impossible not to smile.
back inside the palace, total pandemonium breaks out as the royal staff frantically prepares for the departure. ministers, maids, and servants rush through the halls, packing trunks upon trunks of clothes, royal jewels, custom gear, and far too many provisions—including an absurd amount of fine cuisine and emergency meat supplies—until the luggage piles up into an enormous, comical mountain that takes half the crew just to drag toward the docks.
when the queen finally steps out of the palace gates and makes her way down to the port alongside luffy, the atmosphere shifts from chaotic to profoundly emotional. the royal guards line the path, completely throwing away their stoic military posture as heavy tears stream down their faces. choking back their sobs, they call out through their tears, shouting how much they love her and begging her to stay safe out on the brutal oceans.
along the harbor, massive crowds of local civilians line the streets, clapping, cheering, and waving tearfully as the two sovereigns walk past. the whole country is terrified for their beloved ruler, but they send them off with an overwhelming tide of love, proud of the fierce, unconventional path she has chosen.
right before they board the ship, the faithful old butler hobbles up to the couple, his hands trembling as he clutches a handkerchief. he breaks down into open, ugly tears, pointing a shaky, accusing finger straight up at luffy's nose.
"you... you better protect her with your life, you hear me, luffy?!" the butler wails, blowing his nose loudly into the fabric while glaring through his tears. "if you let even a single speck of dust touch her, or if you make her skip a single meal, i swear i'll sail after you myself and drag you back by your straw hat!"
luffy just laughs brightly, flashing a confident, beaming grin as he wraps a reassuring arm around his wife's shoulders.
"shishishi! don't worry about a thing, old man! she's with me now, so everything's gonna be totally fine!"
the queen steps forward to the edge of the stone dock, her voice ringing out clear and resonant across the harbor, carrying effortlessly over the quiet murmurs of the weeping guards and the cheering crowd.
"people of my country," she calls out, her posture regal and unshakeable, though her eyes shine with a deep, emotional warmth. "this journey is not a farewell. it is a bridge. by stepping out into the wider world, i will bring our kingdom's name and honor to every corner of the seas, and ensure our people are connected to the world like never before!"
before the citizens can even finish processing her inspiring words, luffy suddenly throws his arms into the air, leaning past her with a wide, irrepressible grin and shouting at the top of his lungs:
"and i'm gonna be king of the pirates!"
a burst of collective laughter ripples through the entire harbor, instantly washing away the heavy tears and replacing the anxious tension with bright, ringing joy. even the weeping guards let out a choked chuckle through their smiles.
with the final trunks loaded onto the deck, the straw hat crew raises the anchor and sets sail, embarking on their next great adventure. as the ship glides out of the desert port and into the vast, open ocean, they carry with them an unprecedented treasure: a reigning queen turned daring pirate, and a captain who proved that even the wildest, most impulsive whims can change the entire world.

HAIIII i love ur luffy drabbles n i just saw the post abt there being more luffy angst 👀👀 something i really want to see is a fic of an insecure reader + luffy not really being a good bf. like luffy obvi loves reader, but doesn't really understand what bf duties entail, like being sensitive, not ignorant on his bad habits, being generous, communicative, or spending time with them n not being distracted by something else. and like he could tell that something would be bothering reader, but if they won't tell him out of embarrassment he'd get frustrated, just leading to like a cycle of miscommunication.
sorry if this is long af, but i'd love to see ur take on it (if u can) 🥹!!
Hello!! No worries about sending long asks I love hearing other people’s thoughts and ideas!! You’re very much welcome to send long asks here!
also ty for liking my dabbles!! It means a lot to hear that
As for this concept specifically, I’ve been thinking it over quite a bit in general. Since I want to make Luffy angst, but Luffy’s a really straightforward and intuitive driven character that i lowkey suck at deciphering how it would work since he most of (if not, all the time) just says what he thinks.
But the more I think about it, the more that would likely be Luffy’s misstep in a relationship. He doesn’t understand the concept of being too fearful to voice things or even the thought of being hyper conscious of every single action he has.
The closest thing he gets to insecurity is him feeling weak and wanting to become stronger- but even then, it’s more of an external thing rather than an internal one yknow?
He doesn’t understand being insecure. He’s not completely oblivious to it, he has seen Usopp grow and deal with his own insecurities as time passed but he specifically doesn’t understand how to deal with it in a relationship.
To Luffy, when there’s a problem, he fixes it. If he hates being weak? He trains his butt off until he isn’t anymore. His friends in trouble? He helps them no matter how “unfit” or “not ready” people think he is. But when it comes to things that are unsaid, he falls flat. He needs things told straight up to him so he knows what to do to fix it.
I feel like I’ve mentioned how a relationship with Luffy would be a bit more open and unconventional (especially for a romantic relationship) and an insecure reader would actually struggle SO bad because of that.
You want a private date with just him and you? Suddenly it’s a group outing with a bunch of strangers you barely know. Luffy doesn’t understand dates but he’s very willing to learn.. if you ever voice and communicated to him.
But an insecure reader wouldn’t exactly do that, only internally mulling over how awful and boring you must be that you can’t keep him entertained long enough that he feels the need to wander off. (Which is completely untrue. Luffy just doesn’t know dates are supposed to be a one on one thing.)
The dynamic would be really fun to play with since Luffy doesn’t understand social cues and reader knows this but it doesn’t stop the insecurities (iykwim). Reader who’s too embarrassed about their insecurity that they don’t communicate and Luffy who just doesn’t know it’s a problem because he’s not told it is.
It causes more problems than not. Especially when he starts noticing you’re starting to always act odd with him which he doesn’t like. And I can see him just letting it go at first (wanting to give u space) but it just drives more distance between you two that he starts being really frustrated and it eventually would lead to many arguments where he says things he doesn’t mean while trying to fix whatever problem is going on.
I do think the crew would have to step in to help fix things. But either way he’d be really.. affected by the whole thing. He’d bottle it up and push the feelings down but it never really leaves. Adventures starts to feel more dull, smiling and laughing feels more strained, and he’d catch his eyes just.. trailing after where you wandered off.
A direction opposite of where he’s standing.
Either the crew steps in or Luffy figures it out himself.. somehow. Yeah, he’s not the best when it comes to thinking over things but he’s very much capable. Especially in situations where he needs to. Of course, the more likely option is him confiding in his friends about it.
But I can also see Luffy just spending days moping around all dazed and watching you, trying to put the pieces together himself somehow. Whether he ever does would definitely depends on how badly his chest hurts seeing you smile and talk to the crew casually unlike the stiff, awkward posture you now hold when he’s near.
^ this is more of a specific scenario but in general I feel like he’d be a good boyfriend… just.. really “free” which leaves a lot of room for reader misinterpreting Luffy’s actions.
He treats romantic relationships as just friendships with extra steps which sounds good on paper until you realize how common it is to feel like the relationship is TOO open. The loyalty is there, the commitment is there, but it feels like he treats you as just another crewmate which isn’t true at all but it definitely still feels like it.
Luffy would be open to fixing whatever reader’s insecure about in the relationship tho. But it takes him figuring out what’s wrong in the first place to even get to that part. Either reader finally tells him what’s wrong or one of his friends tell him what’s wrong. Then he’d immediately work on repairing things.
if it isn’t already too late ofc (heh wink wink cough cough)

a/n: the selena song by this name is soooo him omg
moving to a new city was going to be rough, you knew this already. an entirely fresh start with a new school when it starts in the fall, new people, and new social ecosystem. but as your mother advised, it wouldn't be all bad.
the apartment you moved into was pretty beat up, but it seemed safe enough. younger kids playing in the courtyard eagerly waved to you and your mother, the new tenants.
apartment 513 was your new home.
you were carrying one of the last boxes left to unpack through the hallway to the unit, when some unseen person bumped into you, causing it to tumble from your hands.
you look up to see a sheepish smile and the sweetest brown eyes you could ever dream of.
"shishishi, sorry about that! you just moved, huh? let me help you!"
the boys grin is blinding, and you don't even get a word in before he's picking up the hefty box like nothing and practically bounding away.
you're barely able to catch up with him, and by the time you're both in the apartment, he's already snooping around curiously.
"oh-um, thank you! can i, uh... know your name?" you as as he's head first in your fridge that's still mostly empty. he comes up for air with a hotdog sausage.
"monkey d. luffy! i live in 512 with my brothers! what about you?" he asks curiously, tilting his head as he takes a bite of the stolen sausage.
you keep it brief, telling him your name and how you just moved here with your mom.
you can't help but admire luffys frame. his red basketball jersey leaves little to the imagination, lean frame pretty much on full display. his shaggy black hair is adorned with the cutest straw hat, rustling cinematically with the light breeze that comes through the open window.
he's somehow cute even while scarfing down a hotdog he stole from your barren fridge.
it's now or never. time to put on your best charm.
you take a step closer to him, playing with the strap of your tank top idly.
"would you mind showing me around?"
luffy is already eagerly grabbing your hand and dragging you out of the unit, past your very surprised mother.
he gives a very quick tour of his own unit, escaping before ace and sabo can interrogate him about the girl he just brought around.
as he tugs you through the hallways of the complex, he gives fleeting explanations of each tenant, some much more flattering than others.
down in the courtyard, he shows the hidden corners in which he hides his treasures (which end up being a collection of little trinkets.) you later find out how much if an honor it is to be shown the secret spots.
the sun is setting, an orange glow on the courtyard that casts the shadow of his long eyelashes across his face.
"um, thank you a lot. for, y'know, showing me around. it was very ... helpful." you smile up at him, swinging the hand that he is still holding back and forth.
"let's hang out again! no one here ever wants to hang out with me." he pouts, adorably.
you quickly decide to remedy that. "i'd love to! you can come over once all the boxes in my unit are unpacked. in the meantime... can i come over to your place?"
a grin that takes up his whole face is your answer.
~~
as summer continues, you find yourself spending about 85% of your time in luffys bed. not in that way, although you wouldn't complain, but simply playing video games, or talking to him, or cuddled up in his arms.
as you lay, alone, on your own bed, you let out a groan of frustration. what are you two? you spend all your time together, you've even spent the night! you for sure thought he was going to kiss you then, hut he knocked out as soon as he hit the bed. which you shared.
does he even want to be more? as far as you know, he is into girls. he just hasn't been into any girls for the time that you've known him, which you're thankful for.
maybe you should just be grateful for his friendship and stop vying for something more.
you're just about to settle into this more mature train of thought until he comes barreling into your room.
"hey! you were supposed to come to my place today." he pouts, kneeling at the edge of your bed.
"crap- sorry, i totally forgot! forgive me, wont you?" you plead as you drape yourself over him, clinging onto his shoulders.
his attempt at hiding the smile that wants to break out behind his stubborn pout is adorable. well, ugly, but in an adorable way.
he picks you up and practically bounds across the hall, tossing you onto his bed and jumping on top of you like a wwe fight.
your sort-of-boyfriend wraps around you securely, legs entangled and face pressed against your chest. out of habit, your hands go to play with his hair, your nails scratching his scalp in a way that makes hum melt and purr against you.
maybe you didn't need to be his girlfriend. maybe this was enough. just friends.
you're on this mature train of thought until once again, you're interrupted as the door busts open.
"luffy! what did we tell you about bringing your girlfriend over!" ace shouts, although the grin on his face tells you that he obviously isn't really angry. he just loves to disturb luffy while you're over.
"aaace!" luffy whines, not happy with the disruption. "to tell you guys..." he answers his brothers question with a pout, although he doesn't loosen his grip on you in the slightest.
the happy rainbows in your head are stills shooting lasers from being called luffys girlfriend, and the boy in question not denying it. you give a little wave from beneath your luffy blanket to ace, and to sabo who is in the doorway behind him happily watching it all go down.
ace rolls his eyes and shuts the door, but not before tossing a condom that luffy carelessly discards to the pile that is growing in his nightstand. this isn't the first time ace has done this, and it certainly isn't the last. but he's never outright called you luffy's girlfriend before.
but, why not? why shouldn't you take charge? it's now or never, and maybe you'll come out of this apartment unit with a boyfriend. or broken heart. you hope and hope for the former.
"so, luffy, quick question, is it cool if i like really officially actually was your girlfriend?" you ramble out, muscles tense beneath him.
luffy looks up at you, blankly.
"weren't you already?"
well, that would make more sense. you'll celebrate this win in a moment, for now you need answers.
"i was hoping so, but you never really officially asked me to be your girlfriend."
he narrows his eyes for a moment, visibly thinking.
"ohhh, you're right!" he grins, laughing at his own forgetfulness. "i totally thought i did! will you be my girlf–"
you can't wait any longer. the kiss is messy, with too much teeth, and you're both smiling into it too much for it to really be a kiss, but it's no matter.
making out with luffy really is an experience. he kisses like the air is toxic and your mouth is the only source of oxygen. his exploring hands make you breathless and ticklish at the same time. feeling up his abs could nearly make you faint.
sabo calls out that lunch is ready. luffy flinches against you, as if about to run off out of reflex. but in the same moment, he melts back against you, not ready to stop devouring your lips yet.
~~
no one else needs to know when you fell for each other. or where he hides his treasure. or how many condoms you two filled with yogurt to throw at his brothers.
because those are secrets you keep in between the lips that are steadily fused to luffy's.
is it okay if u write a x luffy fic where the reader has almost the same personality as luffy like with all the into freedom and self express stuff.

when the sun meets another like it, there's bound to be some kind of worldly disaster to occur. two stars that burned too bright for their own good, much less for the rest of the world, there was no way they wouldn't collide against the other and burn the rest of the population for their careless ways.
if they did clash, what would happen?
they say when two suns run into one another, that's how they tell the other; let's be friends!!
"my name is Monkey D. Luffy, and im going to be king of the pirates!" he had both hands against his hips, chin tilted just the slightest in the air as if the words themselves were true merely because he had believed in them.
on the other hand, the second sun of the world smiled like Luffy was suddenly the most interesting thing in the galaxy.
what were the odds? running into someone just like her, with aspirations and dreams as big as her own imagination.
you held out your hand, eagerly, catching the rest of the crew behind him off guard with a movement so quick they didn't think it was possible for another person to hold traits of their captain in them like you had. much less a girl so cute.
"my name is y/n, and im going to show the world what true freedom is!" you cheesed out, and Luffy could do nothing but blink in surprise to the confident claim. you were so sure of yourself, so carefree it practically slipped out the cracks in a sun like you. Luffy grinned just as wide, straw hat tilted just the slightest as he laughed.
as if the world itself knew before anyone else could, you laughed with him.
nobody knew just what your words entailed, or how you would make such a wild and brash claim pass, but they did know one thing. when you boarded their ship as the newest member of the Straw Hats, nothing could prepare them for the misadventures you and Luffy would drag their way.
the day of your fateful meeting with your captain all that time ago secured a friendship like no other, and in that, a spark of love filled with childish-like wonder grew through the shine of both suns in the sky.
you and Luffy were practically inseparable. whether that was on the Sunny, or on whatever unfortunate island you two landed on, there was never a moment where you and Luffy weren't joined at the hands, wide smiles on your faces like the world was created just for you two.
that claim laid true in everything, especially when it came to a fight.
when Luffy took a blow in battle, you would be there to send one in return for hurting your captain and best friend. when you struggled to take on two enemies at once, Luffy was at your side and covering your back like it was nobody's business. you two always had each other, and Luffy wouldn't have had it any other way.
neither would you. after all, when Luffy was there, freedom and adventure sparked so bright it set your own soul on fire all over again.
your laughter rang out loudly, hand holding his tightly to not lose the boy as food spilled from both of your arms. Luffy gave a grin to the mess, knowing full well Nami would no doubt lecture the both of you once she found out. it didn't matter, not to Luffy, and certainly not to you.
you ducked as a spear split the air next to your ear, missing you by just a few strands of your hair as you let out a desperate laugh filled with the rush of adrenaline. "Luffy-!" you wheezed out, seeing your friend already swallowing a whole piece of meat in one bite. he chuckled, food on his face as he swallowed it down quickly just in time for the crowd of cooks and bakers to roar to life in anger behind you two.
you had just landed on this island, and after Sanji commented on their popularity for the amount of food they made- you and Luffy had swiftly grabbed hands and began your secret mission.
a mission that unfortunately, marked you two as thieves.
you yanked him down, just in time to save him from the sword that lodged into the ship behind the Thousand Sunny. "hey!- that wasn't nice?!" you could only laugh harder to the yell of complaints and insults thrown your way, slipping onto the wrong ship as Luffy shot the people of the island you had greedily stole all their food from a glare. he hauled your body against him, covering your back this time as another dagger flew through the jolly roger of a pirate crew you couldn't name for the life of you.
you blinked, face burning as you hurriedly turned to the crowd. "we said sorry?!" Luffy nodded quickly, jumping over barrels and crates that the two of you really had no business even being near, and another handful of food was shoved into his mouth with ease as he pulled you along.
"yeah, what gives?! feed the hungry, you know?" you smacked his arm to that, laughing so hard tears were gathering at the corners. you closed them quickly, basking in the adventure you and Luffy always seemed to get lost in. no matter where the two of you went, there was always trouble to follow you two like a ghost with a personal vendetta.
this time, you took in a mouth full of food, swallowing quickly as Luffy giggled to your antics. there was a soft blush on your cheeks, no doubt from the amount of running the two of you had done, and a smile wide enough to shatter the world.
when the two of you had met, Luffy knew instantly that you would be his partner in crime.
a partner that always made his stomach flutter like he was hungry all over again, even though the rubber captain had just ate. if food itself was the best thing in the world to him, then you had to be above that. the world wasn't as fun if you weren't with him, and food could never top that.
Nami practically screeched to the sight of you two on the ship behind them, the whole island hot on your tail as the two of you held hands and laughed like it was the funnest thing you had ever done. maybe it was, but when the two of you had each other, what could be more fun than that?
"what- how did you two even manage to get the whole island on you?!" she yelled out, Usopp practically fainting to the sight as Zoro and Brook moved to set sail before they got a hold of you two.
"we just got here!!" she sobbed out.
"there they go again," Usopp whimpered, shaking his head in his hands like he had been shot three times over. "starting trouble like they're the only ones in the world!" Robin giggled to that, watching as Luffy had stretched to wrap his arm around you like a rope of safety.
"think about the rest of your crew, will you Luffy?!"
the mob of angry islanders were two steps behind you now, ready to take the both of you in and get their food back. you giggled against him, holding on for dear life. the archeologist didn't miss the way her captain's eyes softened as he looked down to you in his arms.
Robin let out a smile, as if she alone knew what was unfolding right before the crew could even put the pieces together. "how interesting." she hummed out, and Luffy's loud laugh rang through the air as he shot the both of you across the sea and towards the Thousand Sunny.
your arms tightened around his neck, eyes wide and open to never miss the sight of an adventure Luffy always brought to your hands. with food piled between you two, you both glided to the air before landing with a loud crash against the deck.
Nami's orders were swift. panicked as Franky and Jinbe had moved to get you guys the hell out of this mess. you peeked open from your closed eyes, the sun beating down against the deck of the Sunny as a low groan came beneath you.
Luffy held you tightly against him, cushioning the fall as he blinked twice before meeting your gaze. food spilled all around you two, your hands placed against his chest as his straw hat laid right between you two. you gave a nervous smile, ready to apologize before you caught the gleam in your captain's eyes.
they were warm, undeniably so, but engraved with the adrenaline of adventure and freedom you two chased your whole lives. your felt your ears burn, swallowing slowly as Luffy tilted his head to the look you gave him.
"why're you looking at me like that, Lu" you nervously breathed out, smile still wide as if nothing could stop it. Luffy wanted to keep it, maybe put it in his pocket for all he cared. as long as he could have it forever, he didn't really mind.
he shook his head, laughing as the crew scurried to put some distance from the island you two made enemies of. a soft breath passed between you two, "because you're amazing," Luffy admitted, earnest and honest as he hugged you against him. you felt your heart thrum loudly in your ears, heart dancing with a joy only you and Luffy could relate to.
"don't ever stop smiling like that," he giggled out, hands cradling your face and squishing your cheeks like his own personal favorite plushie. you laughed to that, cheeks red and heart steady as Luffy admired you before him.
Brook let out a low whistle, the Straw Hat's finally getting some peace and calm after the ordeal you two had started. you both ignored him, but Luffy was never one to run and hide when things got blurry. so instead, amidst the growing circle of the crew watching you two laugh without a care in the world, he pulled you in.
with a kiss that showed the world that both suns had indeed crashed together, it was like a supernova was born. creating an entirely new creation, one that held tales of two people of the same kind. free, adventurous and so unapologetically themselves.
you melted into it, unsteady and slightly messy, as if neither of you two had ever really kissed someone before. you were sure that was the case, but regardless, you and Luffy shared a secret pact nobody else would ever hope to decode.
you two would always be together, not just as friends anymore, but as something more. as boyfriend and girlfriend. partners till the end.

when franky first sees robin, he thinks she's beautiful. dangerous, but beautiful. tanned skin, silky black hair, and piercing blue eyes. a rockin' bod too, but there were more distressing things at hand at the time.
when robin first sees franky, she thinks he looks strange. muscular, tall, with an alarmingly sharp jawline, and strange. but robin has always had an affinity for the off-putting things in life.
after that, it was a blur. a scary, freeing, tearful blur.
and when everything settled down, and the crew was finally all together, sailing away on their new ship, there was a moment of peace.
this was also when robin realized, despite all the years she's subtly used her beauty to get her way, she didn't know how to woo a man like franky.
she admired him deeply. he hadn't even known her, and he fought the government for her. saved her.
robin also admired the rippling abs franky constantly had on display. she always got especially distracted when he would work in the deck of the sunny, right by where she would be reading in the shade. she'd summon a few arms to bring him a cola from the kitchen, after which he would flash her one of his signature blinding smiles that nearly made her swoon.
she wanted franky. badly. she almost felt greedy. but if her wish for life could come true, couldn't her wish for franky come true as well?
it actually proved to be easier than she thought.
because on the other side of robin's silent admiration, franky had a crush. a big one.
it was a fact that nico robin was beautiful. but franky knew that fact better than anyone else. the amount of times he's accidentally smashed his metal finger with a hammer after being distracted by her sunbathing in his general area was something that needed to be studied.
and more than her beauty, nico robin was smart. and caring. and kind of a freak.
in the gap of time that was spent on the ocean after they disembarked from water 7, franky found that nico robin was very curious about his body.
he wanted to make a joke that she already knew enough after murdering his genitals, but the memory was too fresh in his mind and still sent shivers of pain through him.
though, it's not like franky wasn't enthused to explain the schematics of himself. and he supposes he was very lucky to find possibly the best listener in all of the grand line.
they were alone in the aquarium bar when it happened. franky had been explaining how he rebuilt his hands, and had just re-donned the layer that covered the steel of his hands. his explanation suddenly stopped when he felt robins hand flush against his palm.
robins hand was tiny against his. if she tried, her hand would be able to wrap around only one of his fingers.
franky's face heated up immediately. robin isn't sure if she imagined it or not, but she could've sworn that his hair stuck straight up for a moment.
"what- what game are you playing, nico robin!?" franky half-teased, half-panicked.
robin smiled in a contented grin up at franky, splaying her hand against his palm. "nothing, franky. just wanted to feel." ever composed, robin kept her panic inside. even she didn't know she would do this. the only thing that escapes her perfect cover is the dilation of her pupils as she looks up at him, her hand in his.
there's a pause, a moment of contemplation as they look into each other's eyes, before franky grips robins hand lightly and she grips his in return.
there's another pause before they're both leaning in.
and another pause as their faces are inches from each others before their eyes flutter shut and their lips meet. and when they finally kiss, it's like the feeling when a puzzle had been completed. when the last stair has been climbed. the feeling when everything is finally right, and you can take a break.
but on the straw hat crew, you can never have a break for long. in the next moment, luffy, usopp, and chopper roll into the aquarium bar in a heap of limbs. they had all been trying to fit through the doorway at the same time, causing their tumble to the ground.
the trio of playful youngster's crowd around franky, his hand still encircled around robin's, as they plead for him to buff up their fishing rods and make them extra powerful.
with a sigh, franky sends them back up to the deck to bring the rods back to him. "i was in the middle of somethin'..." he pouts to robin as luffy, usopp, and chopper scurry back up to the deck.
"it's okay, we're safe now." robin smiles softly. franky supposes she's right. they were never alone now. they didn't have to be.
they could be in love and take as much time as they needed.

he's a bloodthirsty, stoic, bringer of justice. lucci didn't waste time on such irrelevant emotions. he barely wasted time on any emotions, besides his pride.
but being undercover on this mostly peaceful island of water 7 has brought changes. for three years now, rob lucci has been working as a carpenter at dock 1. for three years now, rob lucci has had to speak through his pigeon as to not reveal his voice. for three years now, rob lucci has maintained the facade of a socially awkward, oddly strong, quiet man who definitely doesn't have the primal urge to kill.
and for three months now, rob lucci freezes when he sees a certain girl around town.
it's terrible. it's torture. he's never felt so.. out of control. the worst thing is, everybody knows it.
maybe the description of socially awkward isn't as far off as he hopes.
lucci, for all that he is prideful, cannot handle himself any time he's making his way through the backstreets and happens to see you on a yagara or walking in his general direction. with a very improper use of his training, lucci ducks behind a building and waits until you've passed. and this was an effective solution.. until kaku happened to be with him.
imagine the surprise on the fellow cp9 agents face when all of a sudden, in the blink of an eye, lucci has grabbed kaku by the wrist and practically whipped him into an ally alongside curly haired agent. a feather from hattori gently falls to the stone ground where they once stood. at first, kaku suspects there may finally be an advance in their mission, so he stays silent and follows luccis signal. yet, nothing happens. the only thing he sees is you passing by on your yagara.
that's when kaku pieces it together.
and after that day, the entire shipyard is aware of the stoic and odd rob lucci's crush on a girl from the backstreets.
paulie is the most relentless teaser. despite his own shyness with women, he can't deny the overall humor in rob lucci actually having emotions.
it makes lucci so frustrated (flustered), he almost wants to blow his cover.
it comes to a head one night at blueno's bar. paulie, kaku, and tilestone have miraculously been able to convince lucci to go for some drinks. they were one of two groups in the bar, the other being a rowdy bunch of thugs from the backstreets. it was as peaceful as it could get in the bar, until you happened to walk in with your girl friends.
the four shipwright's at the bar froze, heads turning almost cartoonishly to lucci. outwardly, he looked nonchalant, if not a little miffed. inwardly, he was pushing back his fight or flight response.
lucci's inner tension only rose as your group of girls took a seat on the bar stools next to him. and then, you sat directly next to him, still engrossed in your cheery chatter with your girl friends.
lucci thought he might survive this encounter. until hattori, traitor he is, cooed from his perch on luccis shoulder. you turned your head to him at the noise, and lucci almost jumped out of his seat at the new proximity.
"aw, cute bird! you're rob lucci, from dock 1, right?"
damn it, he forgot he had a reputation already. rob lucci sensed the three men on the other side of him gasp and tense, most likely openly staring.
"...yes." lucci responded through hattori. for a moment, he almost used his actual voice.
you looked like you were about to speak again, until the most aggravating voice lucci could think of spoke up.
"doesn't he like her!?" tilestone, being known to yell every word with his booming voice, was possibly the worst person to be here on this night.
your friends gasped from on the other side of you. kaku and paulie gasped on the other side of lucci. tilestone was confused.
your eyes widened up at him. a bashful smile grew on your face and you tilted your head slightly to the side. "do you?"
lucci pursed his lips and nodded rigidly, an unnatural hint of color forming on the tips of his ears.
So could you do a luffy x reader where ready grew up with the asleep brothers and everything and luffy tells the crew that it's a surprise and they dotn know about you, and when they arrive at the island luffy runs off and leaves the crew by themselves and once the crew meets up again at the ship they are surprised, also could you add thatuffy talks about how strong r3eader is and Zoro challenges reader and she defeats home ith one of his swords.
