How do you revise for a language you're learning?
Hi! There are many ways to learn a new language, so here are some tips which I find the best, before I start please try to get out as much as your classes as possible!:
1. Whenever you get a new vocabulary list, write it down on a piece of paper, with your native language on one side, and the language your learning on the other. Listen to how it is pronounced and repeat it out-loud.
2. With these vocabulary lists, cover one side and test yourself regularly.
3. Use flash cards, write the word on one side and translations on the other side then test yourself.
4. Learn new verbs/nouns around the house. For example, take a post-it and stick it on a window and write the word ‘window’ in the language, such as ‘Fenster’ for German.
5. Read newspapers, magazines and books which will help you pick up new words faster and you will learn more about the culture, food and what’s happening in that country. Go to your local library/school library and pick out something you’re interested in and at your level. While you are reading, make sure you take note on words/sentences you don’t understand and useful phrases.
6. For oral exams, record yourself then listen to it over and over. You can also tell if you have mispronunciations.
7. Watch TV-shows, movies, listen to music etc. This is also a fast way to pick up a language. Of course, watch something for YOUR level, such as shows aimed towards young children. There is so much out on the internet now, that there might also be shows designed for learning that language.
8. Studying tips for class:
-Grammer: Write down the rules and learn them!!! This is so important and if you want, you can make new sentences to put your new grammar to use.
-Speaking: Talk to your friends in that language in class and ask questions to the teacher help you develop further.
