I don’t think they go by modern American rules at least, because I’m pretty sure snow read the quell announcement for the 50th, and that’s always the president right? So he’s been president for at LEAST 25 years. Obviously it’s meant to be a dictatorship so that makes sense. But I really want to know what the transition of power was like. There’s something so personal about the heavy motif with bread representing kindness and humanity. 11 sending katniss bread as a thank you for rue’s sendoff. Peeta bonding with other districts by talking about their bread types and differences. Sejanus sprinkling bread on Marcus’s body. The first thing he feeds tributes being sandwiches. The 12 wedding ceremony of making a fire and breaking bread over it. Greasy sae bakes bread for katniss while she’s mourning prim. Tigris feeds them bread while sheltering them in mockingjay. Peeta’s giving katniss the burnt loaf. The prep team getting punished for taking extra bread in 13. A throwaway line about Octavia smuggling an extra roll to katniss after her games. The refugees from 8 carrying the mockingjay symbol on a small slice of bread, a cracker maybe. Katniss’s first interaction with peeta is the bread, and the first one we see with gale is him with bread, sharing it with her. Peeta is the boy with the bread and he is the one that represents kindness and stability. It being such a reoccurring theme is so human and I think about it a lot
