Dolly's first piece of educational philanthropy was to tell kids in her home county to pick a buddy and if they both graduated high school, she'd personally hand them each $500 at graduation.
None of us has Dolly's money, but I bet the Tumblr collective can come up with $500 of our own. And I think she'd appreciate that.
(I'll keep an eye on this post. If all of these get fully funded in the next 24 hours, I'll post another set.)

Goodwill, Boston MA. I buy too many records (my tumblr is all curious LPs I got thrifting), but looking at these “salesman self-help LPs” I just couldn’t do it. This was someone’s collection– someone was really super excited about being a successful saleman.
Red Motley is the name of the guy at the edge of the village who swindles you out of your tavern money and leaves you sleeping cold and hungry under a hay wagon until you can hopefully pick up a quest in the morning.
Also he looks like Criswell.
Found at Goodwill in Beaverton, OR. I’ve named it The Entity.
Shitterfrog adjacent beast.
‘capitalism works’ factoid actually untrue. the 62 people who own half the world’s wealth are outliers and should be eaten.
Absolutely nuts how they made up a number for this satire post and the correction is that reality is *more absurd* than the number they chose
no i’m afraid it’s even worse than that. 62 was correct in 2016 when the original post was made.
Will always reblog
ITS BACK!
Go, Brother Go!
somebody put this in a time capsule because it is so important that future generations see this
I remember once wondering what the fallout was for this, if any (and hoping he didn’t get into trouble). I just had to look it up again because I remembered that the manager at that particular Krispy Kreme seemed to be under the impression that you can just delete things from the internet. Sure enough:
I spoke on the phone with Heath, a manager at the Krispy Kreme location who about knew the incident I was describing. He was, however, slightly surprised that I knew of the video. “Actually, that video was supposed to have been removed from the web,” he told me, “so I’m surprised it’s still out there circulating.”
Aaron, who executed the flip heard around the world, is a professional tumbler, and his dance group was once on America’s Got Talent. He described the iconic incident:
Oh my God, let me tell you about that night. So I have a free coupon to get like a dozen doughnuts, so I go, “All right, say no more.” I go make moves — we’re all in line, we’re just talking. I was like, “Yo, I’m about to make a video, I’m about to do a flip.” So I give them my coupon, I’m like, “Stand in line, get the dozen doughnuts, I’m gonna go over here and make this video,” and all that. So it was me and my two friends. I tell them to set up at the table. I was like, “Oh, I gotta get my intro real quick.” I did my little intro — “Back at it again at Krispy Kreme” — and I was like, “Y’all ready?” Then we flipped the camera around. I back up. I told myself, I’m not gonna hit anything. So I do my flip, but the second flip that I did — the back handspring, the back one with hands going into the spin — I stretched it out too long. So when I went into the air and started spinning, my left leg hit the sign off the wall clean, and it dropped behind the counter. And it was like [glass shattering sound effect]. It was packed. There was a good hundred, a hundred and some change, people inside. Everybody was talking. As soon as that thing dropped, everybody didn’t talk for a good 30 seconds. It was nothing but silence. As soon as I landed — I didn’t fall after that, you saw me, I landed on my feet. I looked up and I saw that it fell, I didn’t look at nobody, I just kept walking, and I walked out the door. Everybody was like, “What the heck? Oh shoot, he just kicked down the sign!” Everybody started going crazy.
I was floored to find out the restaurant was so crowded when it happened. Imagine being there that day, witnessing history…
Aaron did delete the video from his own account to avoid negative attention, but it had already gone too viral to die down. Happily he didn’t get into any trouble. Someone did call the sheriff (insane thing to do, be so serious), but they told Aaron, “You don’t have to pay for anything like that, just don’t do anything like that again.”
In the words of Funké in his coverage of the Vine, “and he hasn’t done it since.” But he did keep doing flips:
Asked if he had any other thoughts to add, Aaron stated, as a matter of fact, “Tumbling is life.”

What if we banned all advertising? Not regulate it—abolish it. This proposal would transform manipulation machines, and maybe save democracy
Even as an advertiser (especially as an advertiser), I am convinced that outlawing advertising is the best thing we can do for our world now. More than gun control. More than tackling climate change. More than lowering the price of eggs. Removing these advanced manipulation tools would force everyone—politicians included—to snap back into reality. By outlawing advertising, the machinery of mass delusion would lose its most addictive and toxic fuel.
I started out reading this smugly saying to myself yeah, right.
But by the end I'm sold. Let's ban advertising.
We can start small, maybe with city ordinances. Then roll it out county wide, then at the state level. Once other states see how quiet and sane things can be, they'll adopt the ban too. The ones that don't will remain snarling islands of rage & delusion until the people move away.
Let's ban advertising.
the entire state of vermont already banned roadside billboards years and years ago. change is possible!!

If this was closer to me, I would have absolutely brought this cursed item. All I can think about when I see it is the drumming rabbit from the movie “Caveat”.
