Mom: “Why is he [Yugi] so short?”

Me: “He’s meant to be adorable.”

Mom: “Why is he wearing that shirt?”

Me: “Fanservice.”

Later

Me: “See, this is why I like the fanservice of male characters in Yu-Gi-Oh. It’s subtle. It’s there if you want to see it, but it’s not shoved in your face.”

Mom: “Is that Yugi’s brother?”

Me: “No, that’s Kaiba’s brother.”

Mom: “Apparently shortness runs in the family.”

Me: “Wait, did that game just summon a bunch of monsters in one turn?” (Note that she did not get the reference. She has not watched Yu-Gi-Oh! Abridged, and says she won’t until she has watched the entire series, so her impressions of the characters aren’t affected by Yu-Gi-Oh! Abridged. Fair enough.)

Mom: “He looks like an 80s bad boy.”

Mom: “I have had enough of these rocker boys being jerks to each other.”

Mom: “I ship it!”

Me: “Why? Is it because she stood up to him?”

Mom: “Yeah. Also, the height difference got me.”

Mom: “My pointy bastard.”

Me: “I dunno. I don’t think Yami Yugi’s a bastard.”

Mom: “You know damn well who I meant.”

Later

Me: “So, which pointy bastard are you going to root for?”

Mom: “Don’t make me choose!”

Mom: “I ship it!”

Me: “Why?”

Mom: “The height difference got me.”
