“Why would you ever say that?” Rodolphus scowled, his eyebrows furrowing together. “Of course you aren’t talking about me.”

“That’s the extent to my boredom because someone hasn’t visited me all summer,” she teased, nudging him gently with her arm. “If I was I’d only be tormenting you.”

“Like I give a fuck about Prewett. I told her I like her first.” James shrugged, feeling that that was the only answer the blonde needed about that particular situation in his life. As she pushed away his cigarette, he shrugged and slipped them back into his pockets, before puffing away on the one hanging between his lips. He pulled in a breath as she commented about him being second best, and he turned his head to the side with a scoff. “Nice dig, Talkalot. But James Potter is not, and will not, be second best. Especially not to a wuss like Prewett.”

“Oh wow, you told her you like her, you’ve only done that.. what, half a million times?” Lucinda scoffed, rolling her eyes perhaps a little too dramatically at the thought. Watching the way the smoke escaped past his lips, she resisted the urge to let out a sigh of frustration. She knew the hold that he had over her was ridiculous and borderline pathetic but there was little she could do about it. “Prewett is her boyfriend, you’re clearly second best,” the blonde drawled, tired of the conversion but feeling no desire to leave. “Besides, I think he’s rather dishy, how could you not be second place, really?”

“And risk losing your company, never.”

“Tell me then, has your summer been as pitiful as mine? I imagine it would be since you’re without my company and all.”

“I think the one of you going away is my favorite.” 

“I agree, my hair really does look great from the back, among other things.”

“You know you missed me.”

“How could I not? Promise not to hold it against me?”

“Lucinda, we may be best friends, but trust me when I say, I know you weren’t talking about me. Because if you were, you’d have hell to pay,” Narcissa replied nonchalantly, glancing at her.

“Cissa, if I was talking about you, I’d be blunter about it,” Lucinda teased, “Now cheer up a bit, you’re too pretty for frown lines.”

“Well, just a head’s up, my favourite flavour is always red-head. I can’t get enough of one particular one, actually. But, in the mean time, I dabble.” James knew what he was doing, and he didn’t care. Smirking at the blonde, and her seemingly fake smile, James lit a cigarette and placed it between his lips, before offering one out to her from his packet. “She’s the more famous of you two though, isn’t she? The one everyone talks about? You… you’re second best.”

“Brilliant, I’m sure her boyfriend appreciates that notion,” Lucinda responded dryly, ignoring the sour taste in her mouth at the thought of his affection towards Lily. Shaking her head and pushing the cigarette packet away with a look of disgust, she did her best to keep her half smirk fixed on her features, though it was becoming more difficult by the second. “Things change, Potter, I think I’m just about done being second best-- perhaps you ought to take the same attitude when it comes Lily, you might actually get somewhere.”

“Probably with the fact that you have any expression, really.” 

“That’s fine with me, all of my expressions are equally as gorgeous.”

“Deluded?” James scoffed, and he leaned against the nearest wall, crossing his arms over his chest as he did so, mirroring her movement. “Love, your the one who keeps making up rumours about me, and don’t deny it, because it’s obviously not Rita. She has much bigger fish to fry than … well, there’s no-one in school bigger to fry than me, but outside of school, I mean.”

Pursing her lips, Lucinda allowed her eyes to run over him for a moment, annoyance quickly rushing over her. “Nothing to do with me,” she drawled, forcing a smile onto her features. “I don’t have the time or energy to spin rumours about you and your latest flavour of the week.” Lie. Brushing her hair away from her neck, the blonde couldn’t help but quirk an eyebrow. “Though for the record, Skeeter has nothing on me.”

“Boring it is. Did you do anything fun? Oh of course not.” There was a small tinge of sarcasm attached to Alice’s last remark. 

“Darling, I could be having the worst summer of my life and it would still be more entertaining than most people’s,” she drawled, ignoring the slight annoyance grating at her. “I suppose I ought to ask how yours was?”

Andromeda stood taller. “You’re right, Talkalot. You aren’t talking about me. We both know if anything we are equal or you are below me.”

“If I was talking about you, I would have mentioned how bloody miserable you look ‘Dromeda,” she half teased, rolling her eyes playfully. “From the looks of it, your summer has been even worse than mine.”

“Oh, Lucinda. What is this consideration thing you speak of?” He smirked at her, taking a step closer to the blonde. “You like being around me and you know it.”

“When I find out I’ll let you know,” she quipped back, a snicker following soon after. Folding her arms over her chest, Lucinda watched him carefully. Tosser, she thought. “I always knew you were deluded, but this obsession with me needs to stop, even if you do have good taste.”

“Even when it’s saying you are fucking obnoxious.”

“You appear to be under the impression I care, Black, where did I go wrong in my nonchalant expression?”

“Of course you’re not, love. I’m obviously fantastic  company.”

“I’d rather spend my time with the Giant Squid, Potter, at least he possesses some kind of consideration for others.”

“Oh but I might be talking about you.”

“Good, I’d rather be bitched about than not discussed at all. All publicity is good publicity, love.”
